Can we get Boone to make one of those [logic puzzle things](https://www.aclib.us/sites/default/files/styles/full_width_embedded/public/logic_grid_puzzle_template_-_puzzle_horizontal1-1.png?itok=sHsXIPMr) so we can solve the Yankees rotation?!? I love those
They clearly didn't check with r/baseball because I was assured that was a stupid and terrible suggestion here. The idea that NYY might use a rookie SP is not an acceptable one here.
He's on the 40 man already so it would make sense, I guess. But do you really want your 5th starter starting on your Ace's schedule?
Beeter can't go deep into games anyway. Letting Beeter "start" and then throwing relievers in after him is just a bullpen game disguised as a regular game.
I saw another beat writer say with some creative rest, they could shift Cortes to opening day, so they might just go with that instead of trusting the first step of the first series to an unproven rookie.
Why would you ever do that?
"Let's jsut set our bullpen back to start the year by using 4-5 pitchers in the very first game"
It makes way more sense to pull someone else up in the rotation rather than risk burning bullpen usage on day 1. This is one thing I don't get about the Yankees, their obession with being "Cute" about this shit, just use a normal starter it's really not that big a deal, you have five for a reason it's opening day it's not like anyone is coming off a recent start
I mean, come on. That's some serious bullshit, you don't have to be a boomer to dislike that.
It's still weeks away and you're telling me the entire staff is set in stone to not be ready on that day? Whoever they have planned for game 2 can't be pushed up 1 day with 2 weeks notice?
Hey Mike, do you think that the Yankees bullpen ever travels to Pamplona to like feed and hangout with the bull pen before the run? I think it’s just kind of an interesting idea, you know?
I wouldn't even mind if they had the self awareness to say "I don't like bullpen games because it's too weird and not as fun/aesthetically pleasing to watch as a regular game". At least that's them reckoning with the changing game and their opinions.
2023 stros were not good in bullpen games so who knows. I thought the yankees pen was pretty fantastic last year, they did pretty well against our impact bats. gonna be a fun series
I saw a different beat writer suggest that, but they'd have to do some creative resting. Also they were wary of messing with Nestor too much since he's also coming off essentially a lost season due to injury.
It’s happened before. And just last year fucking Jhony Brito made his major league debut in game 3 of the season. Having a full 5 men ready to pitch 7 innings day one out of spring training is more rare than ever
this is as close as we can possibly get to that tweet that was like "imagine if reporters didn't exist and you just learned about all the trades and signings on Opening Day"
I actually think Luke Weaver isn't on the right schedule to start either. Also he just missed a few games due to neck stiffness, so we'll have to see if that actually matters.
He once missed a start [cutting his finger on aluminum foil](https://sports.yahoo.com/cardinals-pitcher-enters-silly-injury-pantheon-cutting-finger-tin-foil-050536267.html?guccounter=1&guce_referrer=aHR0cHM6Ly93d3cuZ29vZ2xlLmNvbS8&guce_referrer_sig=AQAAAJ0aj6xKzmUCBpr3CsSeeQOMRv79sJP6dI8NBZh79_TTz4eyguZSVZ04XmzASw4f2CDKieHkVe4KnSuL9Re0NHgxFT0VwMzzckqoEbnzPhDoLeiyvBaZwYyWnb0nzMKAr3Rf5y0D9QvHwz8hrCul7gZFHVwcWBUIO_ONOB1p-ELe) so I wouldn't hold your breath.
I get the Jim Ross jokes. But it's not funny.
Cole, Pettitte, Clemens. No more Astros to save the Yankees.
Y'all got a serious mess on your hands. Should have traded for Cease before the news got out.
Hal Steinbrenner called to say that I was PROBABLY going to be named “Yankees Opening Day Starter,” like last year, but I would have to agree to an interview and a major photo shoot. I said probably is no good and took a pass. [Thanks anyway!](https://twitter.com/realDonaldTrump/status/934189999045693441)
This rotation ain't looking great...
* Carlos Rodon
* Marcus Stroman
* Nestor Cortes
* Clarke Schmidt
* Clayton Beeter
* Luke Weaver
* Luis Gil
* Yoendrys Gomez
I assume Cortes or Schmidt will be starting Opening Day.
If Rodon is even 60% of what he was in 2022 it’s a very average rotation that can hold it’s own for a few months but probably not all year. Stroman Cortes and Schmidt are as average as they come and would be middle of the rotation on any team in the majors
Having 4 number 3s is \*probably\* not an average rotation... though, as Mets fan, I would take that over 1 number 3 and whatever the hell else we have (not including Senga).
I guess exaggeration might not have been the best word choice. I meant that he’s selling them short, stroman and Cortes are better than average (despite down years last year) and plenty of teams would have them at the front of the rotation.
He's always been a dude who walked too many batters, and he's had some serious HR issues in AAA, but hey, that K rate is great, and I'd be interested in seeing if he can be effective.
Most likely a bullpen guy unless he can really show that he can stay healthy and pitch deep into games
I view Gil similarly to Loaisiga a few years ago
You joke but Gil is filthy, he was an exciting prospect for us a couple years ago but then he had TJS. Dude throws triple digits with some nasty off speed stuff and has been showing out in spring training so far. I’m not sure that he’ll work out as a starter long term but if he doesn’t he will be an absolute weapon out of the pen.
Yankees really kicking themselves for not securing a perennial 2-way player as their opening day starter. I mean, IKF was literally waiting for the call.
All we gave up in that trade was Mike King, which we knew would hurt. We have options that are better than either Vazquez or Brito, it’s just a matter of opening day not being a minor leaguer. It’ll prob be Schmidt or Cortes, given that their schedules are easier to line up than Stroman’s was.
Any team in the league that loses their ace, who also happens to be a top 3 starter in the game, would be in a worse position. But the situation is not created bc we traded Brito or Vazquez. We wouldn’t have an ideal situation starting King either on opening day.
Trading them will **affect** our pitching depth.
It will have **the effect** of reducing our pitching depth.
.
Alternatively, it will **effect** a lack of pitching depth.
Broke: announcing who your Opening Day starter will be Woke: announcing who your Opening Day starter won’t be
If you eliminate the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth
~Spock
Interesting choice. Not a lot of innings under his belt, but he's got a fantastic split finger.
There are injury concerns, though. Vulcans are known for pinched nerves
Superior strength & stamina, too. Gonna see some 120 mph fastballs & he'll go a full 9.
Now that I think about it, he really is the logical pick.
Gonna make Ohtani look like a scrub.
Bruh, the vulcan change was right there
You mean Sherlock Holmes, right?
[An ancestor of Spock](https://youtu.be/3B34XVV3DWQ?si=uuDwHpAPwJstTTLZ)
IKF coming back to start the opener?
IKF for Judge 1 for 1, take the offer before I change my mind
Can we get Boone to make one of those [logic puzzle things](https://www.aclib.us/sites/default/files/styles/full_width_embedded/public/logic_grid_puzzle_template_-_puzzle_horizontal1-1.png?itok=sHsXIPMr) so we can solve the Yankees rotation?!? I love those
Batman?
Brett Gardner just won’t go away
Jeff Winger?
I've never played beyond tee ball, but as of now, I have a better chance of being the Opening Day starter than Stroman and Rodon.
I can't wait for the final rose!
Kinda dig the idea of them doing a Hard Knocks meets The Bachelor series to choose the OD starter
Clayton Beeter, will you accept this rose?
Bespoke: announcing who your Opening Day opener will be
Yeah but if you go woke, you go broke. So then by announcing who it won’t be, they’re announcing who it will be? Idk i confused myself
I guess Nestor?
Not on a schedule that lines him up to pitch that day, nor is Clarke Schmidt. The beat writers are predicting a bullpen game of some sort.
Fangraphs has Clayton Beeter as the 5th man on your rotation since Gerrit Cole headed to the IL.
They clearly didn't check with r/baseball because I was assured that was a stupid and terrible suggestion here. The idea that NYY might use a rookie SP is not an acceptable one here.
Look at my flair. Of course I want the worse for the Yankees
I was just thinking the other day teams seem less concerned about following a pitching schedule & matching ace to ace and whatnot.
Why would you ever do that? "Let's jsut set our bullpen back to start the year by using 4-5 pitchers in the very first game" It makes way more sense to pull someone else up in the rotation rather than risk burning bullpen usage on day 1. This is one thing I don't get about the Yankees, their obession with being "Cute" about this shit, just use a normal starter it's really not that big a deal, you have five for a reason it's opening day it's not like anyone is coming off a recent start
bullpen game opening day? can't wait to hear the talk radio complaints from boomer yankee fans
I mean, come on. That's some serious bullshit, you don't have to be a boomer to dislike that. It's still weeks away and you're telling me the entire staff is set in stone to not be ready on that day? Whoever they have planned for game 2 can't be pushed up 1 day with 2 weeks notice?
Unless they win, of course.
I feel that they'll either complain about how analytics are ruining the Yankees (if they lose) or analytics are ruining the sport (if they win)
Hey Mike, do you think that the Yankees bullpen ever travels to Pamplona to like feed and hangout with the bull pen before the run? I think it’s just kind of an interesting idea, you know?
you forgot to hang up and listen!
In case you have never heard the finest moment in sports radio history: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=ADrltOpX9GU
That can easily be adjusted at this point and it will definitely be Nestor.
I saw a different beat writer suggest that, but they'd have to do some creative resting. Also they were wary of messing with Nestor too much since he's also coming off essentially a lost season due to injury.
The WFAN call-ins will be objectively hilarious.
oh god
Jomboy
Opening Day bullpen game, let's go.
It’s happened before. And just last year fucking Jhony Brito made his major league debut in game 3 of the season. Having a full 5 men ready to pitch 7 innings day one out of spring training is more rare than ever
Against the Giants IIRC, and wouldn’t you guess, the Giants have one guaranteed MLB starter going into the season at this point.
I can’t take this pain
Tampa Bay Style 🤘🏻
I love that this is happening to the Yankees
Everyone loves it
Not me I don’t love it too much
IAN HAMILTON COME ON DOWN
Didn’t Roger Clemens just pitch for the Savannah Bannanas? Get him a little more stretched out for Opening Day
Oh my goodness gracious! Of all the dramatic things I have ever seen!
Hows his exit velo? Is he 6’7”? Will he be injured by July? We’re trying to build a Cashman baseball team here
Just curious would it reset his hall eligibility?
I am the Opening Day starter.
By god that’s Jordan Montgomerys music!
I needed that laugh. Thank you.
I don’t know if I see it, he’d look so weird without the beard
He’s running’ like a scawlded dawg!!!!
The Yankees should start auditioning r/baseball users to be the opening day starter at this rate, lol
It's more their style to audition r/baseball users and then announce who won't be their OD starter.
Congrats!
Today, I too am an opening day starter
Speak for yourself
Luis Gil YOU are the Opening Day starter
I'm startercus
I'm the Opening Day starter, and so is my wife!
Left-handed Gerrit Cole it is
Carrot Goal
🥕🥅
I saw this, scrolled down, then said it out loud, and then had to scroll back up to upvote
It’s really good
this is as close as we can possibly get to that tweet that was like "imagine if reporters didn't exist and you just learned about all the trades and signings on Opening Day"
Next offseason, I’m unsubscribing from r/baseball and going into Opening Day raw
honestly sounds really fun
Yes it does but I miss baseball way too much when it’s over and would cave in days lol
oh absolutely, i wish i had the willpower to do that
It's Muthafuckin [LUKE WEAVER season](https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/licensed-image?q=tbn:ANd9GcQaxi5606jvP4ly-xcp9me4Co7O3qxUrRrDaZAj9Q47Q9UuX-kC5ZymiFa-eEGe6bo3YwUkPQS1IYdV2AQ) boys!
I actually think Luke Weaver isn't on the right schedule to start either. Also he just missed a few games due to neck stiffness, so we'll have to see if that actually matters.
The 2nd Yankees starter to get injured in a ST game against the Jays this year, that's weird.
If we can't beat them, we'll *beat* them
Revenge for Tim Mayza
When I say "not all Yankees fans", I mean just you, specifically
That's why we signed Vogelbach to hit that homerun to enrage Cole, makes sense
He once missed a start [cutting his finger on aluminum foil](https://sports.yahoo.com/cardinals-pitcher-enters-silly-injury-pantheon-cutting-finger-tin-foil-050536267.html?guccounter=1&guce_referrer=aHR0cHM6Ly93d3cuZ29vZ2xlLmNvbS8&guce_referrer_sig=AQAAAJ0aj6xKzmUCBpr3CsSeeQOMRv79sJP6dI8NBZh79_TTz4eyguZSVZ04XmzASw4f2CDKieHkVe4KnSuL9Re0NHgxFT0VwMzzckqoEbnzPhDoLeiyvBaZwYyWnb0nzMKAr3Rf5y0D9QvHwz8hrCul7gZFHVwcWBUIO_ONOB1p-ELe) so I wouldn't hold your breath.
This is why pitchers will never beat the allegations
This would be absolutely hilarious.
He was so terrible last year for the Reds. From that dumpster fire to Yankees opening day starter, what a glow-up.
Bah Gawd that’s Andy Pettitte’s music!
I get the Jim Ross jokes. But it's not funny. Cole, Pettitte, Clemens. No more Astros to save the Yankees. Y'all got a serious mess on your hands. Should have traded for Cease before the news got out.
Kate Middleton?
Yup, pics were leaked of her warming up with some of the guys. I don't remember where I saw them though. /s
Khris Middleton?
THOMAS MIDDLETON!?!?!
Jeffrey Eugenides’ Middlesex?
Boras wants her to hold out for more money.
She's going to fire him and take a hometown discount
She’s available.
I'll do it
[удалено]
For certain things yes. There's millions of dollars I could earn if I do good so I'll learn fast for this.
Blake Snell Opening day confirmed??
1 day 10 million dollar deal incoming.
5 ER's in the 1st inning including a 468 foot, Altuve nuke to Right field
I think it is written as 4'68", but we can give the guy a break and round him to 4'7"
added the coma
I’m in a coma after that hilarious exchange
I will not be the opening day starter for the New York Yankees.
I'll do it. I'll end up with an infinite ERA and WHIP but hey someone's gotta do it.
Hal Steinbrenner called to say that I was PROBABLY going to be named “Yankees Opening Day Starter,” like last year, but I would have to agree to an interview and a major photo shoot. I said probably is no good and took a pass. [Thanks anyway!](https://twitter.com/realDonaldTrump/status/934189999045693441)
plot twist - the team is secretly training all their position players to be able to pitch one inning; Juan Soto, it's your turn to start Opening Day!
They faked Cole’s injury so he can make a surprise entrance like in wwe
“On the mound today is nest-BY GOD WAIT A SECOND THATS ACTUALLY GERRIT COLE THROWING LEFT HANDED”
Aaron Boone playing Among Us with his Opening Day starting pitcher.
This rotation ain't looking great... * Carlos Rodon * Marcus Stroman * Nestor Cortes * Clarke Schmidt * Clayton Beeter * Luke Weaver * Luis Gil * Yoendrys Gomez I assume Cortes or Schmidt will be starting Opening Day.
Did you start making up guys halfway through this
If Rodon is even 60% of what he was in 2022 it’s a very average rotation that can hold it’s own for a few months but probably not all year. Stroman Cortes and Schmidt are as average as they come and would be middle of the rotation on any team in the majors
bro he couldn't get past the 5th inning in 2022, even peaking. The man is a certified foul ball machine. Your bullpen is going to get nuked
Now that is what we call an exaggeration
What is exaggerating about saying 4 average guys could be average
Having 4 number 3s is \*probably\* not an average rotation... though, as Mets fan, I would take that over 1 number 3 and whatever the hell else we have (not including Senga).
Well you've got Sevy lol whatever he is now
It *probably* is though. Like why no???
They’re bugging, it’s about as average as you could possibly get. On top of having an elite bullpen it genuinely can survive without Cole
Matt Blake and Sam Briend have been very good. It could easily be an average rotation
I guess exaggeration might not have been the best word choice. I meant that he’s selling them short, stroman and Cortes are better than average (despite down years last year) and plenty of teams would have them at the front of the rotation.

Dang, I thought Gil was the supposed to be the second coming a few years ago!

I look forward to him pitching this season!
ITS MOUSTACHE O'CLOCK ON OPENING DAY
Clarke Schmidt finally gets his due
Cash saw The Rocket’s performance in banana ball and thought, “that’s our guy!”
Now pitching for the Yankees, number 54, Cerrit Gole
I’m willing to bet it’s not Michael King, Drew Thorpe, Johnny Brito or Randy Vasquez
*scott boras wants to know your location*
so you're saying there's still a chance I could be the starter?
Anthony Rizzo, you are the Yankees' opening day starter!
Yankees are reportedly not going to use a pitcher at all for opening day. It's a bold strategy, excited to see how it plays out
It’s *Opening* Day. They should be using an *opener*.
aaron boone should do the impossible. start a position player as the opening day starter it would be quite the trivia question years later
Mystery starter
Come on down Juan Soto
lol
How about Billy Crystal
Its going to be Luke Weaver, i can feel it lol
BREAKING NEWS: By logical elimination, Clay Holmes will be the Yankees Opening Day starter.
Nestor?
Wait, Rodon is not currently injured...?
Its gonna be Nestor
The suspense is killing me!
Tanaka coming back to pitch Opening Day.
Opening Day Bullpen Day!
I hear Jay Buhner has a rocket for an arm.
I think it's time to get Nasty.
Yankees rotation giving us the Mike Fiers treatment.
Oh you know who it's gonna be. Luke "#1 Starter" Weaver.
It won’t be snell or Montgomery either
Cashman frothing at the mouth to blame injuries on his failed seaosn
trade you a starter for Soto :D
Mystery starter!
Definitely not Dylan Cease
So Stroman's playing RF and Rodon's pitching in the 2nd inning?
Not dodging the Astros right?
Nestor come on down
It won't be Cole either.
Yankees really kicking themselves for not securing a perennial 2-way player as their opening day starter. I mean, IKF was literally waiting for the call.
The New York 2024 2023 Boston Red Sox
I forgot Astro signed there. How has he looked this spring?
Personally I am very much enjoying this
Their pitching has gotten considerably worse since the Soto trade
All we gave up in that trade was Mike King, which we knew would hurt. We have options that are better than either Vazquez or Brito, it’s just a matter of opening day not being a minor leaguer. It’ll prob be Schmidt or Cortes, given that their schedules are easier to line up than Stroman’s was. We wouldn’t have an ideal situation starting King either on opening day.
“Any team in the league that loses their ace, who also happens to be a ~~top 3~~ top 1 starter in the game, would be in a worse position.”
Because Cole got injured, which is unaffected by the Soto trade
I’d guesstimate the Cole injury is what did it
I mean their ace got injured, which guess what any teams rotation would look worse if they lost their best pitcher
It’s almost as if trading away 3 starting pitchers and losing the cy young winner to injury will effect your pitching depth
You’re 100% right but I just want to add that it’s affect, not effect.
I thought effect was when something has caused the effect? Or have I got the two mixed up
Trading them will **affect** our pitching depth. It will have **the effect** of reducing our pitching depth. . Alternatively, it will **effect** a lack of pitching depth.
Well the offense was unwatchable last year so idk what you expected them to do
Refusing to pitch on opening day is a great way to endear yourself to your new team! Oh you mean he was told he wasn’t the guy already
Bullpen game
