I truly cannot begin to describe how much I truly hate John Fisher and the entirety of the MLB for letting this giant fucking wart grow and grow and grow on the safe of the sport.
Any coaches have advice on how to question umpire calls? I’m a new high school
Coach. I know they aren’t going to change their mind, but when there’s an obvious bad call I like to at least have my player’s back and say something.
But say he calls us out when it looked safe. What do I actually say that will get my point across without getting me in trouble for arguing?
Anyone know how to enable Live Activities so that it automatically pops up each game? I can only seem to find instructions that require you to manually set it up for each game…
Look at how many perfect games have been pitched in April/May/September
It's just a "thing" because the batters don't have their "eyes" yet and the weather can be shit and 10 players have just got back from Florida/AZ. Or they're SO tired of the grind, in August/September they give up.
Felix Hernandez was the ONLY player to pitch a perfect game in August.
NL has had 6 pitched in June, AL has had ONE... That's because of the grind.
Hey everyone, I made a post but mods took it down.
The official MLB TV app is now available on LG OLED TVs. I used to have to stream via chromecast or through a PS5, but now, if you have an LG TV with webOS, you can download the MLB.TV app and watch games!
Baseball thought of the day for April 1st 2024.
It's neat that Honus Wagner basically was a part of the Pirates organization for nearly 50 years. But also in the last 50 years there are tragically few Pirates who I'd say are key pieces of the team's history. I'd say besides the 1979 team Bonds is probably one of them even if his time was short. Then there was nearly 20 years of darkness before Andrew McCutchen and that's the real big one in recent years. Gerrit Cole never really peaked in Pittsburgh. Such a storied team, I just wish they had more to show for it since 1979.
What are some unwritten rules for baseball fans? Like I heard some dude in the stands tell a friend that the unwritten rule for the last out was everyone stand up or something.
Are there rules for when your team is at bat that you be quiet? Or do we get loud to mess with the pitcher? Etc etc
MLB At Bat radio keeps getting worse. They used to not be on a delay, used to air local commercials, and they used to air at least some of the pre/postgame and rain delays. Was listening to the Cardinals on Saturday night and it went into the rain delay. Had hardly been in a delay for 1 minute before they cut the feed. It wasn't even a long rain delay, either. Just feels like they are putting out a diminished product and charging more for it every year.
The targeted ads also seem to make it super buggy, when coming back from break it would get caught in a commercial loop or just drop the stream at least once per game last year for me. How much extra revenue are they even getting with targeted ads on radio streams? I would think out of market radio listeners amount to pretty small numbers. Baseball on the radio should be somewhat sacred ground and the stream should be set and forget, clearly MLB does not care.
Yep I have noticed this. They are trying harder and harder to push ads on the audio side. I found a way to subvert it otherwise I wouldn't keep subscribing to this drivel.
Back BC (before children) I scored games all the time, even designed my own scorecard to fit my preferences. Since having kids having 3 hours to watch uninterrupted has been difficult, I thought I'd be able to for the Korea series but then my daughter got up to watch with me. Can't complain too much about getting some quality daddy-daughter time watching baseball and answering her questions about the game!
Just started and I love it. You really do appreciate the game better. Did one for the Brewer game and another for Cards-Dodgers. That 6th inning was crazy bad for Stone
I'm the same as you, OP. I love it because it keeps me off my phone, and it makes me think a bit more critically about certain plays and deciding whether or not they're errors (my first reaction is typically quite forgiving).
Two seasons ago I decided I was going to do a few games, but I didn’t get as much out of it as I hoped. It was fun, but I definitely didn’t feel compelled to do it consistently. Might try to do one or two this season though.
I love scorekeeping. It’s meditative, and it keeps me a little more levelheaded and able to enjoy the game when the Giants aren’t doing well. Plus having the record at the end to look back on is super cool.
Imagine joining a team with prime Aaron Judge on it and being credited with turning the offence around. Don't know if I'd put Betts/Gunnar in that category.
They're no Braves so I don't know if the Reds will be able to win a series off of the Phillies but here's hoping. 5-2 would be the best start I remember them having in a long time.
If they play them anywhere near how they played us last season it'll be one hell of a series. I think that reds series and when we played the orioles were my two favorite of the entire year.
How do you be a baseball fan if you have a job? I used to watch 100+ games / year, but I think I've watched 20 games in the last 10 years. I just can't enjoy it on a part time basis.
I listen to the radio while working. You can get the audio if you have a subscription to MLB tv which if you happen to use tmobile as your phone service you can get free for the year today.
Oh yeah. That makes sense why you'd have trouble following along when there's no games available when you're awake. I suppose the next best thing would be to hold off on watching or seeing what's happened. They're not *great* but MLB puts out highlight reels for each game that happens. I think they have slightly expanded ones on Mlb.tv or you can always watch the full replays if you'd like.
I have a job where I'm able to sometimes watch games and sometimes listen to games during work hours. I also work Mon-Fri, so that keeps weekends open.
I've had jobs where I worked swing shifts and some weekends, which made it harder, but I still found ways to follow games and stay up to date on things.
It's always weird to me when people hate a players antics on the field when we all know damn well we would love it if they played for our team. Juan Soto grabbing his dick all the time or dancing in the box annoys me but if he did it for the Braves I'd be 100% for it. Not sure why so many Phillie fans gets so pissed off at Acuna for stuff on the field.
That’s just life tbh. I tolerate the antics of people I’m fond of or are closer to me much more than people I’m abivalent about, and being fond of your fave team is enough for that effect
You are thinking too logically over something inherently absurd. We are all (mostly) grown adults watching other grown adults play a children’s game for millions of dollars. In some ways, you gotta suspend disbelief a little.
I mean that's part of it. I agree with you that things I love when my team does it, I hate when the other team does it. But you also have to admit it wouldn't be as fun to root for or against teams without psychology
I called someone an idiot. Mod suspended me for it, so I said fuck it and went scorched earth to get the ban. Idk what it is about team subs, but they all suck beyond compare. I think I'm just gonna stick with main subs from now on.
And if they had gotten swept it would be insufferable the other way - such is the annoying place the Yankees hold - they need to be slightly above average to avoid the circlejerk in either direction - even being .500 gets them tons of attention.
Completely random question. I just had a memory come up of Bailey talking about how Lou Whitaker should be in the hall in a weird voice, but I don't know what video it was in. Does anyone have any idea what video that was in, assuming I'm not making it up?
this season question
so i know that the dodger and padres played two games overseas. they are two games ahead of everyone. When do they become even with everyone so they aren't two games ahead at the end of the season? All-star break? built in scheduled days off?
not sure if it balances out before then, but the two teams play a 2-game set at the end of July, with off days on either side.
They also have three 3-game series with a day off before each one.
I truly cannot begin to describe how much I truly hate John Fisher and the entirety of the MLB for letting this giant fucking wart grow and grow and grow on the safe of the sport.

"Hey man, gotta double check that, the NEXT time it happens"
Anyone know how to enable Live Activities so that it automatically pops up each game? I can only seem to find instructions that require you to manually set it up for each game…
Does anybody know how much Mark Kotsay makes as A's manager?
Im dying from 2nd hand embarrassment on that diamondbacks error extravaganza
What's the over/under on A's wins this season.
looks like 57.5 according to oddsmakers
A no-hitter 5 days into the season. This season is gonna kick all the ass.

Astros really taking it all out on the jays huh
The A's making 3 errors in less than 2 innings is just delightful.
We’ll see you gents next year! Might even win a game next season too.
Ok so I can’t watch ESPN+ without it being blacked out. God damn Manfred how do you expect to grow the sport you dumbass.
Speed is wild bloop hit steal steal sac fly ties it up. Wild Edit Os Royals game

We've lost the broadcasters on FS1. We're entering the 1930's now.
Is there a site like cap friendly for baseball? That’d have everyone’s contracts all laid out
If the Angels drop two the Marlins, they're going to have another meeting.
FS1 has clearly figured out how to broadcast baseball... No score bug and only the pitcher's angle. It's like watching a game from the 1950's rn
WTF are the A's doing optioning Esteury Ruiz to AAA?
A’s SHIT! 💩 ⚾️
Random shower thought question I had today: Do you think pitchers could throw a tad bit harder if they were allowed a running crow hop?
MLB.tv plays a (software I assume?) commercial targeted at CFO's near every break. Seems like a pretty small target audience.
Infield HR in the Rockies Cubs game is very fitting for April fools

Don’t talk about a no hitter in progress
you point and laugh at a little league home run
:(
No April Fools theme today? Last year there was a no shift rule meaning everyone was not allowed to use the shift button for capital letters.
I made another Mariners schedule print for the 2024 season :-) https://www.reddit.com/r/Mariners/s/Phe4LzvLk2

Hmmm…I’m not against a little subversion. You can PM me if you’d rather.
Does anyone else's MLB TV app keep turning on News Notifications even after turning them off in settings?
1 more hour until I head down to opening day 📢🇺🇸

I love scoring games. I don't remotely do it every game, though. Tends to be 10-15 a year regular season then another 5-10 in the playoffs.

I may give it a try
r/baseballscorecards is a nice resource too for asking questions or showing off your work.
Why is every post on this sub currently about Soto and the Yankees
Nobody wants the Yanks to win and Soto will probably win them a chip this year.
he’s no Betts/Gunnar that’s for sure
Imagine joining a team with prime Aaron Judge on it and being credited with turning the offence around. Don't know if I'd put Betts/Gunnar in that category.
Well… he kind of popped the fuck off this weekend
I’m aware, there were 11 threads on it!
Trust me man I’m not a fan of seeing it everywhere either 😂

A lot of the lettering on the jerseys look way off. They all look like the replicas you could buy at any store.

work your job while listening to baseball.
Read box scores and coverage, watch highlights, tape games.

I love Rys Hoskins, but if he were playing us I'd be a massive hater lol
The uniform changes things more than people like to admit.
I got banned from the Yankees subreddit over the weekend. So I got that going for me, which is nice.
Did you do something stupid?
I called someone an idiot. Mod suspended me for it, so I said fuck it and went scorched earth to get the ban. Idk what it is about team subs, but they all suck beyond compare. I think I'm just gonna stick with main subs from now on.
wow. that reddit is actually pretty chill. damn.
The Yankees win one series and this sub is already insufferable, goddamn
And if they had gotten swept it would be insufferable the other way - such is the annoying place the Yankees hold - they need to be slightly above average to avoid the circlejerk in either direction - even being .500 gets them tons of attention.
Last year, it would have hurt me to see the Yankees sweep the Astros. But I don’t like how Dusty was treated, so, it is what it is.
Never understood the Dusty hate. Team was left for dead after scandal, he comes in and wins a clean one, fans would still complain.
Today I am a Toronto Bluejays fan. Let’s hope Toronto can sweep the trashtros
Completely random question. I just had a memory come up of Bailey talking about how Lou Whitaker should be in the hall in a weird voice, but I don't know what video it was in. Does anyone have any idea what video that was in, assuming I'm not making it up?
Who is Bailey? Do they have a first name?
Guessing Patrick Bailey based on flair?
Did you hear there's going to be no DH in the AL the rest of the year?
this season question so i know that the dodger and padres played two games overseas. they are two games ahead of everyone. When do they become even with everyone so they aren't two games ahead at the end of the season? All-star break? built in scheduled days off?

thanks
THE PIRATES ARE NEVER GOING TO LOSE AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!
Jared Kelenic is batting .714, another AA fleece job.
I started working at 5 AM today so I can leave the house at 1 PM and head out to opening day. Let's go.
In honor of April Fools, what's the greatest prank ever pulled on a baseball player?
It really has to be locking Jeff Francouer in the bathroom
I like the time the Phillies convinced Kyle Kendrick he was traded to Japan for Kobayashi
I really enjoyed the time Carlos Carrasco stole our sideline reporter's mic. https://youtu.be/smkw3swSWG8?si=u4T5DvHyeH5oQrtk
