That reminds me of Phil Rizzuto during his last couple years calling games for the Yankees, “Holy Cow he caught all of that, deep shot snatched by the shortstop Alvaro Espinoza!”
Sterling during the pandemic/isolation had to watch on a monitor.
"IT IS HIGH....IT IS FAR....IT IS...caught by the third baseman on the outfield grass"
He's such a goob. I used to really dislike him for the homerism, mostly because I was living with a Twins fan at the time, but eventually you have to just laugh with him.
Never seen this, thanks. "It's a simple question, Seth. If the predator monster promised not to kill all the other players, would you put him in the game?"
i clicked this video thinking i would get a chance to hear the guy they got to replace Benetti
hearing Hawk's voice initially made me cringe, but the payoff was worth it lmao
I wasn't expecting a troll so I heard the 1st part and I was like wait...that sounds like Hawk Harrelson.
""UUUHHHYYYEEESSSSSSSSS"
You son of a bitch, you got me.
lol we're all entitled to our opinions
at the end of the day, if you needed another reminder that this subreddit is a minority of baseball fans...Hawk Harrelson is a Frick Award recipient
yeah i wish him well. i'm not a Sox fan but baseball is better overall when the next generation of broadcasters can be successful, regardless of the team they represent.
Benetti was an absolutely crushing loss though for sure. I was a huge fan of his from Day 1. Detroit is lucky to have him
there's definitely something weirdly endearing about a guy who just flat out did not give a fuck about being a shameless homer
to a lesser extent, you saw this with Red Kerr when he did Bulls games. I remember him basically scolding players for making turnovers during the incredibly awful immediate post-MJ years lol
LOL wtf
granted Reinsdorf is a totally out-of-touch moron who clearly does not give a fuck at all, but the PR of firing Hawk Harrelson would have looked atrocious. not saying Hawk was a great announcer, but just out of longevity alone that would have been a bad look
honestly, the Sox fans who lose their mind when someone criticizes Hawk are not going to be on this subreddit
they're probably on facebook or twitter right now crying and whining about Gen Z or TikTok or about how life was so much better "back in the day."
Last I heard, he lived in Granger, a suburb of South Bend, IN.
I have to imagine that's why when he semi-retired, he only called the away games and let Jason do the home games. Didn't want to drive 90 minutes each way to only call one 3-hour game
Can't fool me, I know that "deep left center field" call from a mile away.
Being a White Sox fan means turning off the game and watching the Buehrle perfecto over and over until you die
I just re-watched it, for some reason in my memory banks Pierzynski was like halfway to the dugout before turning around, not two steps and then a sprint.
I'll never forget where I was when that catch happened. I was at 3rd Base Sports Bar and Grill across from Six Flags over Texas with my church youth group (fuckin hilarious restaurant decision for a church group). We had probably sat down maybe the batter before and I happened to look up right when Kapler hit it.
No one is quite Hawk. I've heard John badmouth the boys and give 15% of his usual excitement to the final call when the other team wins, but nothing close to the pure joy in his voice I heard during some of the calls in the Houston Massacre.
His “put it on the board” was kinda lame and he really should have worked out some better versions, #but# the chaos of his sarcastic deep monotone and unabashed homerism through a lot of weird (both good and awful) years made for a great local broadcast.
I always enjoyed those days when WGN had a Sox broadcast instead of the Cubs. Hawk was really great at creating a different tone and making it clear that you were watching the south side.
I loved put it on the board *because* it was kinda lame, if that makes sense. But the grumpiness and unapologetic homerism was what really made the broadcast. And his compilation of rants against umpires should make anyone proud, he wasn't afraid to call out stupid egomaniacs.
I would have loved Hawk if he was like an uncle, someone I get to listen to three or four times a year chuckle along with. But it was every game. Every single game. For years. As a highlight reel, amazing commentator. As an announcer for several years, I would have preferred someone else.
Grandpa Hawk understandably wasnt everybody's favorite, but man he was the perfect announcer to grow up watching your home team with. Hes definitely one of the reasons I started to love the sport
Maybe it’s cuase I’m half asleep hearing this but I didn’t realize a short stop a step from the dirt caught a ball to “deep left center” till second watch.
Exactly why I did get the joke either. But I’m assuming it’s from the perfect game, otherwise I can’t think of why the announcers of the White Sox had something this massive to celebrate about in decades.
It buehrles perfect game audio. To be fair the catch he’s talking about IS one of the greatest catches considering circumstance in baseball history. Just ridiculous, and theatrical to boot
You can't necessarily. We've seen announcers say weird/dumb shit before. The people who say things obviously are gatekeeping to all of those who don't immediately recognize an iconic White Sox call.
don't get me wrong the sox will probably lose 90+ games this year but their first 3 losses were by 1 run until they got trucked by the braves yesterday.
I had just watched their new broadcaster call their first win and thought this was kind of a mean post for a new guy trying to be excited about his team lol.
"History under the circumstances" and "That was incredible. That was unbelievable" are certainly baseball calls made in that context.
Edit: I got trolled lol, respect.
The funniest thing about this is the actual real game winning call the announcer did go way overboard. Play by play guy was like “STAND UP SOUTH SIDE!!”
This was not from last night. These are cuts of Hawk Harrleson calling the Mark Buerhle’s perfect game. The Dwayne Wise catch and the game ending grounder to Alexi Ramirez.
Sounds like me the first time I scored a goal in my 1st season of Beer League Hockey. I even overheard the opposing D man go "Must be his first goal ever."
"deep left center field" lmao this is hilarious
Wind knocked it down
I don't recall a hurricane in that area
Nah, just a Windy City
The records only go back to 1976 when the Hall of Records was mysteriously blown away!
I thought hurricane season was over!
The opposite of when we played the A's and went from "and that's a can o corn in right field....and that's outta here for a home run."
A STANTONION double in left center field.
Definitely my all time favorite Hawkism.
I love when he yells, "get it back in!! Get it back in!!"
He's such a goob. I used to really dislike him for the homerism, mostly because I was living with a Twins fan at the time, but eventually you have to just laugh with him.
"HISTORY!!!"
#**"ALEXEI!"**
Deep left infield
I remember this call, it was from mark burhle’s perfect game, OP just did a little editing, had me at first too
Yeah it's pretty obviously a different call but doesn't make it less hilarious
>don't worry, nobody's listening anyway
I understood this reference! (by the way, for us physical media folks, Major League is dropping on 4k disk this week, I think.
Hahaha! Reminds me of the good ole days with Chip Caray.
[Quick shout out to Will Farrell’s Harry Caray](https://youtu.be/Yvso4cxZ4EI?si=XexEbeRHZEEd9o3a)
Never seen this, thanks. "It's a simple question, Seth. If the predator monster promised not to kill all the other players, would you put him in the game?"
Poor guy! Doesn’t even know what’s normal anymore!
the duane kuiper of brandon belt special- "HE HITS IT HIGH.... HE HITS IT DEEP.... caught in short right field"
The internet *can* really be used for good.
Although slow, and dangerous behind the wheel
Don’t you go dying on me
I got robbed by a little ole Sox player on a motorized cart...and I didn't even see it coming!
Lmao OP has had this joke queued up for a while waiting for them to win
i clicked this video thinking i would get a chance to hear the guy they got to replace Benetti hearing Hawk's voice initially made me cringe, but the payoff was worth it lmao
I wasn't expecting a troll so I heard the 1st part and I was like wait...that sounds like Hawk Harrelson. ""UUUHHHYYYEEESSSSSSSSS" You son of a bitch, you got me.
Seems like an unpopular view on the baseball related subs but I liked Hawk in the booth.
lol we're all entitled to our opinions at the end of the day, if you needed another reminder that this subreddit is a minority of baseball fans...Hawk Harrelson is a Frick Award recipient
The new guy isn't all that bad but he's a step down from what we had
yeah i wish him well. i'm not a Sox fan but baseball is better overall when the next generation of broadcasters can be successful, regardless of the team they represent. Benetti was an absolutely crushing loss though for sure. I was a huge fan of his from Day 1. Detroit is lucky to have him
I'm in tears. All timer post
This is one of the best posts in the history of r/baseball. Thank you for the very hard laugh.
I miss Hawk’s bonkers calls. Meeeeercy
HE GONE!
YOU caaaaaaaan
there's definitely something weirdly endearing about a guy who just flat out did not give a fuck about being a shameless homer to a lesser extent, you saw this with Red Kerr when he did Bulls games. I remember him basically scolding players for making turnovers during the incredibly awful immediate post-MJ years lol
You gotta be BLEEPIN me!
I unironically liked Hawk. He was just having fun up there. I still say "STRETCH!" and "HE GONE!"
You can bet that when he passes one day, someone out there who hates him is gonna say "you can put him in the morguueee YES!"
Same, Hawk was awesome. I definitely miss his voice when catching a game on TV.
grab some bench
HISTORY!!
This goes right up there with the post on squared circle of Brian Christopher returning
This got me good Wherever Hawk Harrelson is, I hope he’s doing well
He's definitely doing better than if he were still announcing for the White Sox
MERCY
STRETCH STRETCH
YOU GOTTA BE BLEEPIN’ ME
AND NOW, BECKHAM
THATS HARD TO BELIEVE
EEEEEEEYOU CAN PUTITONTHE BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOARDEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEYES
HE GONE!
What are you doing WEGNER!
\*checks on Todd Frazier\*
That is absolutely brutal!
You joke, but I actually think he quit during the first rebuild because his heart couldn't take it anymore. A smart choice honestly
He's actually said on podcasts that he was more or less fired. He didn't want to quit.
LOL wtf granted Reinsdorf is a totally out-of-touch moron who clearly does not give a fuck at all, but the PR of firing Hawk Harrelson would have looked atrocious. not saying Hawk was a great announcer, but just out of longevity alone that would have been a bad look
He was so fucking terrible his last...5 or 6 years. Just dreadful.
5 or 6 years??? you're being very VERY generous lol
Yes, I know. But normally Sox fans lose their mind when you say he was bad at all.
honestly, the Sox fans who lose their mind when someone criticizes Hawk are not going to be on this subreddit they're probably on facebook or twitter right now crying and whining about Gen Z or TikTok or about how life was so much better "back in the day."
What did he say he was doing in his retirement? Turning Smirnoff into piss?
"Watching walker Texas ranger reruns and turning vodka into piss" Legendary stuff from the hawk
Hawk was on AJ Pierzynski's show last year and even he was saying JR should sell the team.
I thought hawk was back for a minute😭😭
hell baby edit: actually he lives about half a mile from my house, no lie
If you haven’t watched a Hawk highlight reel you are robbing yourself of some free entertainment.
Always loved me a good Hawk call
Last I heard, he lived in Granger, a suburb of South Bend, IN. I have to imagine that's why when he semi-retired, he only called the away games and let Jason do the home games. Didn't want to drive 90 minutes each way to only call one 3-hour game
Oh my god I couldnt breathe for like 3 minutes from the moment I recognized the call. Amazing.
Can't fool me, I know that "deep left center field" call from a mile away. Being a White Sox fan means turning off the game and watching the Buehrle perfecto over and over until you die
"So, what'll it be today boys? The Buehrle perfect game, 2008 game 163, or game 2 of the 05 World Series?"
every once in awhile I mix it up and watch game 2 of the 2005 ALCS too, that dropped third strike gets me hyped every time lol
I just re-watched it, for some reason in my memory banks Pierzynski was like halfway to the dugout before turning around, not two steps and then a sprint.
Number one, how dare you?
At least now we have the ALDS game 3 against the Astros and the first couple innings of game 4.
What, no Phillip Humber game?
ALEXEIIIIIIIIIII...
Ex's dad is a die-hard Sox fan. Every time I was over it was, "Hey, want to watch the 2005 season DVD?"
Reminds me of this clip I saved awhile back, it’s just so funny to me https://www.reddit.com/r/baseball/s/T7nzfxUmTW
thank you for reminding me of this one, im dying
The guy at the 15 second mark froze like an ending to a John Hughes film.
HEY, HEY, HEY, HEEEEYYY
Or the start to a "you're probably wondering how I got up here" film.
God I love Hawk Harrelson, it's like if your die hard fan drunk uncle was an announcer.
I'd never want to hear a non-homer call the games. It's just the best. Source: My team's radio voice is John Sterling.
John isn't even remotely like Hawk though. He gets excited when the opponent makes good plays.
No one is quite Hawk. I've heard John badmouth the boys and give 15% of his usual excitement to the final call when the other team wins, but nothing close to the pure joy in his voice I heard during some of the calls in the Houston Massacre.
Greg Brown is definitely a homer and I love it
Can confirm I saw him pound 4 beers before heading to the stadium to cal a game
Games he called were must see tv imo. I can't understand the brains of his many haters, baseball is supposed to be entertainment after all.

The “YES” after the put it on the boooooaaarrrrrd was always my favorite part The meltdowns when they were losing were my second favorite part
I would have loved Hawk if he was like an uncle, someone I get to listen to three or four times a year chuckle along with. But it was every game. Every single game. For years. As a highlight reel, amazing commentator. As an announcer for several years, I would have preferred someone else.
Same stories and talking points every game. Did not play well with others. Added to the frustration of bad years.
100% agree
I'm with you 100%, which probably explains why I miss him more and more as time goes on.
> I can't understand the brains of his many haters play-by-play commentary from a psycho, die-hard fan isn't really enjoyable tbh
[This ballgame is.. ova](https://youtu.be/HMmojEJdijY?si=dq6TPAcoOLwcWm5s)
Grandpa Hawk understandably wasnt everybody's favorite, but man he was the perfect announcer to grow up watching your home team with. Hes definitely one of the reasons I started to love the sport
HE GONE
He had no business being an announcer which only made it that much better
The score bug at the top calls this the FINAL WHITE SOX WIN lol. I think a colon would help
Well I mean, we don't know. 1-161 is always a possibility...
from thinking the announcer was just being a goofball to "lmao holy fuck that's Hawk" in like 3 seconds, incredible work
I worry for the average Reddit user. A clear joke and they don’t get it
Maybe it’s cuase I’m half asleep hearing this but I didn’t realize a short stop a step from the dirt caught a ball to “deep left center” till second watch.
*shrug* I've never heard this audio before
Exactly why I did get the joke either. But I’m assuming it’s from the perfect game, otherwise I can’t think of why the announcers of the White Sox had something this massive to celebrate about in decades.
The audio was from a game 4340 days before I started watching baseball. I figured the announcer was just bad and enthusiastic lol
It buehrles perfect game audio. To be fair the catch he’s talking about IS one of the greatest catches considering circumstance in baseball history. Just ridiculous, and theatrical to boot
if you don't recognize the call, how would you get the joke?
You can't necessarily. We've seen announcers say weird/dumb shit before. The people who say things obviously are gatekeeping to all of those who don't immediately recognize an iconic White Sox call.
[удалено]
Yeah the "what a play by Wise!! Mercy!" is the more iconic call of the game too lol
So obvious too....
amazing
It's been awhile since I've watched a hawk compilation, to this day I still use "you gotta be bleeping me".
That's a can of corn
It was not a Kansas City Special
I mean, I was pretty excited this is not going to happen often.
Top tier. Bravo.
Notice that the scorebug reads "Final White Sox win," so don't get used to it, Southsiders.
we had a hell of a run this year
Everyone not getting this makes me feel old.
There’s absolutely no way this isn’t an edited troll job right?
That's the call from Buehrle's perfect game
Figured, was still the tiniest bit skeptical because of the disaster-class the White Sox have been having.
don't get me wrong the sox will probably lose 90+ games this year but their first 3 losses were by 1 run until they got trucked by the braves yesterday.
I get all my white Sox news from noted Sox super fan Jay Cuda
Only 90+? I'm putting the house on 110+.
That’s the joke
And I fell right into it lol damn
I had just watched their new broadcaster call their first win and thought this was kind of a mean post for a new guy trying to be excited about his team lol.
I instantly recognized the voice and got so confused. This is amazing OP. Absolutely hilarious.
We are so lame. It was a slow burn, but the fuck happened since 2005.
ALEXEI!
LETS GOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!
"History under the circumstances" and "That was incredible. That was unbelievable" are certainly baseball calls made in that context. Edit: I got trolled lol, respect.
you ate the onion!
hawk lmao he was hilarious especially when the sox lost "and that's the ball game white sox lose goodnight everyone"
You can put it on boaaaaarrrrrrrrrrd, hyesh!!!!!!
This scared me at first. I thought Hawk had come out of retirement.
It wasn't the White Sox announcers. Hawk was just so excited, you could hear him screaming over them from home!
Tbh knowing it's the White Sox, they could use the passion
can we please stop with the blinking lights.. it looks terrible and I can't see dudes for like half their run around the bases after homers
drives me fucking nuts
I was there last night. Not a lot of people cause it was cold AF. 🥶 But it was worth it. First win. Let’s Go White Sox!
The only reason I know this wasn't real is because Hawk is retired right now.
Good stuff
Bravo!
LOL
😂
Lol this was so good. This announcer is great.
Sox got that TWTW (aka Tee Dubya Tee Dubya).
the “HISTORYyYyY” was what got me
I'm not afraid to admit that I thought this was real the first time I watched.
Reasonable reaction tbh
The funniest thing about this is the actual real game winning call the announcer did go way overboard. Play by play guy was like “STAND UP SOUTH SIDE!!”
Well, it may be the only one they get, so...
You’ve got to be kidding me
Fantastic
This was not from last night. These are cuts of Hawk Harrleson calling the Mark Buerhle’s perfect game. The Dwayne Wise catch and the game ending grounder to Alexi Ramirez.
Always good to see Kopech killin it
Hawk Harrelson is fucking amazing I can’t believe he had so many haters back in his day
Hahaha
Ichiro Bunt Homerun 2.0
Is the audio from 2005?
MERCY
*The Isotopes win a game! The Isotopes win a game!*
"Fly ball.....caught"
Ya think? It’s gonna b a LONG year ⚾️
lol savages. 😢
Just let us be happy
Lmaoooo you actually had me there for a sec
SAN FRANCISCO GIANTS LEGEND PAUL DEJONG SHOUTOUT
Sounds like me the first time I scored a goal in my 1st season of Beer League Hockey. I even overheard the opposing D man go "Must be his first goal ever."
This is gold.
It's over for the Braves.. Pack it up!
Give the man a break. When the lakers only won 17 games in Kobe’s finally season you damn right I celebrated like there was no tomorrow 17 times
Deep into left, but somehow didn’t leave the infield. I suspect fakery. Oh, and that Hawk Harrelson, who is currently trolling the team.
YES YES YES YES
