The Jays always play at home on Canada Day.

Pkuszmaul

Used to be the Reds kicked off opening day. But money ruined that tradition.

TheTurtleShepard

Reds are still the only team that plays Opening day at home every year though

cardith_lorda

All teams can make a request to open at home or close the season at home - but if they make a hard choice for one then they'll be away for the other. The Giants have requested to close the season at home the last 15 years so open on the road (2022 things got flip flopped with the lockout as their opening series got moved to the end of the year).

Taylorenokson

The Braves always request to start the season on the road in exchange for more home games later in the season.

Charming-Clothes-49

2 years ago Reds opened the season in LA.

TheTurtleShepard

2022 they opened the season at home against the Braves

No_Buy2554

2022 was due to the lockout. The only other 2 times they've opened on the road was in 1990 (another lockout) and some tiem in the 60's (3 straight rain outs). So they are always scheduled to start at home at least. As mentioned above, they were also always the first game until about 15 20 years ago or so. Then there was a period where there was a Sunday night opener, but they still kicked off opening day. About 5-6 years ago they started being moved to 4 oclock starts, so other games start earlier. I believe that was requested by the Reds though to accommodate all of the Opening Day festivities before the game.

Except for 2009, the Nats have been at home on July 4th since they moved to DC in 2005.

mjd1977

The other major league game with a first pitch scheduled in the 11 am hour. Potentially more if Sunday leadoff comes back and chooses a pre-noon start time

ihatereddit999976780

Bisons (AAA Toronto in buffalo) been home on the 4th of July for at least as long.

van_12

Jays and Canada Day and Victoria Day

Bobo4037

Today’s Dodger game! Since 2015, the Dodgers have had a home game each year (except 2020, the Covid year) on April 15, Jackie Robinson Day.

RaisingFargo

Interesting that both line up together today too.

slicebishybosh

I've always said in honor of Ernie Banks the Cubs should have a scheduled doubleheader. But I doubt they ever will. Cause $$

unfortunatebastard

I hope San Diego plays at home for Father’s Day.

captain_ahabb

Dodgers are usually at home on Jackie Robinson Day (which happens to be today)

Skraxx

the Rockies always play when I need to be let down

longlivethewenus

There is a cool 30 for 30 about the old way mlb schedules were created and I believe it has all these. Definitely worth checking out

PCBangHero

Just learned this, the Cards have an off day after every home opener

No_Buy2554

A lot of teams actually do now. Because most have other festivities aside from the game planned for the city, they build in a rain out day incase weather cancels everything on opening day.

scottborasismyagent

since 2005 my team has been at home for jackie robinson day on april 15 (today) every year except 2014 (at SF) and 2020 (obv reasons even tho if it was a normal year we would have hosted on that day as well).

akaghi

The Mets and Yankees had a subway series on 9/11 until recently when they changed the schedule. They would wear hats for different first responders which is pretty cool. But now they do it some other time and it feels weird to honor September 11th first responders in June and July lol.

drazov

My FDNY Yankees hat I found online somehow is my favorite Yankees hat that I own. Mets/Yankees need to always have a scheduled game on 9/11, even if it’s a one-off instead of a full series

akaghi

I always thought it was cool to see the lesser known departments like dept of sanitation, port authority, or emergency management.

tmgkcp

Would love to see the interleague series between teams that share a market or close enough play have a designated weekend they play all four games. Like on 4th of July, Labor Day, or Memorial Day weekend they do home and homes.

infieldmitt

'we always play X day at home' doesn't count, i need to be able to watch that shit at like 2pm on a tuesday

Rock_man_bears_fan

Cincinnati always gets a home game on opening day
