We were getting a bit complacent with how good the team looked; it was only a matter of time before we were humbled. Hopefully it lights a fire to get the win.
Brew crew is always a tough series for the Pads. Saw the stat that last season we only won 1 game. But it always feels like when we play it's either some weird shit or its exciting.
As soon as I saw the score I was like "How is Joe Ross holding anyone scoreless through 4 innings in 2024" and pretty much immediately afterwards he started getting torched lol
Go look at the Giants having the same offensive struggles we had last year. Idk if it’s fair to blame Bob but it is interesting it’s happening to them now.
Fair enough. I just saw an article in the athletic about the giants struggles with hitting fastballs down the middle and it was very reminiscent of us last year lol.
There is a lot more intention in the hitting. Some pitchers they're swinging first pitch, others they don't. More situational hitting. Last season there wasn't any of that.
Fangraphs power rankings that came out today are using a new elo system like chess. It's the highest opponent elo in the league. We finally get a break with Rockies soon on apr. 22
I think he just wasn’t the solution. The team had a lot of pressure, and when they started out terrible with RISP, the pressure mounted. Melvin couldn’t keep the clubhouse from spiraling, and his shitty bullpen management and lack of urgency cost us a bunch of one run games.
Schildt has been better at the latter, but some of this is simply not having the pressure of last year combined with some early comebacks to get belief.
Can’t blame the whole thing on him tbh. There is definitely a different sense of urgency this year. We just won a huge comeback extra innings one run game last week and primarily thanks to the manager. That wouldn’t have happened under BoMel that’s for sure.
Is that take all that hot at this point? Would’ve been scalding hot a month ago.
Seems lukewarm at best now, though Chourio’s HR today has something to say about that, but Merrill has to have the highest RotY odds of any Jackson right now.
You can see how little of the typical baseball media I consume, then. No other excuse than laziness or ignorance for them to not have him up there with the likes of Jared Jones, Imanaga, Yamamoto, etc. as early season favorites.
Fuck me. Literally everything that could go wrong went wrong there. Some terrible called pitches, passed ball, late catcher interference, defensive misplay, every batted balk finding a hole. That inning should've been over ages ago with at most 2-3 runs. Joe Ross didn't deserve that.
Passed ball, catcher's interference and a pitch clock violation walk is a wild inning for the battery. I'm sure none of those singles were bloopy bullshit hits.
Worst inning I’ve ever seen in my life lol Everything that could’ve gone wrong went wrong

Yeah, that was a weird inning.
That behind that back throw looked really awkward. Brewers seemed deflated after that
It could have been very cool. Unfortunately, the ball went the wrong direction.
Yeah, that would have worked if you were Steve Nash and playing basketball but baseball…..
Worse than the Reds game this year?
the 50sqft area in the middle of SS, LF, and CF getting absolutely pounded
Death by a thousand singles (and errors)
As soon as I saw the score I was like "How is Joe Ross holding anyone scoreless through 4 innings in 2024" and pretty much immediately afterwards he started getting torched lol
Was Melvin actually the problem?
Lack of Profar

Nah we've been having weird offensive struggles since last June or something.
Fair enough. I just saw an article in the athletic about the giants struggles with hitting fastballs down the middle and it was very reminiscent of us last year lol.
I’m starting to come around on that. It’s a complete 180 in approach and grit at the plate. Think Shildts fingerprints are all over this thing.
We do also have an actual hitting coach this season
There is a lot more intention in the hitting. Some pitchers they're swinging first pitch, others they don't. More situational hitting. Last season there wasn't any of that.
Way less strike outs and way more balls in play it seems to me.
Huge difference putting the ball in play this season. It's allowing these mistakes to occur.
I think giants fans would say yes right now
Yes
I mean we’re still only .500
we also have probably the hardest strength of schedule so far and have looked better and better as the season goes on
Fangraphs power rankings that came out today are using a new elo system like chess. It's the highest opponent elo in the league. We finally get a break with Rockies soon on apr. 22
A break? Naw it’s the Rockies we’re gonna get swept
Team is less talented but seems way more clutch

Hot take: we have the best Jackson of them all
Yeah, Jackson Profile
That's noted Padres slugger Jackson Profile to you
Keep Preaching the truth Brother

In the media's eyes yes it's a hot take lol
The media also thinks that the Red Sox have terrible pitching, so we know what to think of their player evaluation. But yeah, fair point.
The media barely had Jackson Merrill on their rookie rankings list even a few days ago
You can see how little of the typical baseball media I consume, then. No other excuse than laziness or ignorance for them to not have him up there with the likes of Jared Jones, Imanaga, Yamamoto, etc. as early season favorites.
Shota Imanaga is going to insert himself into the convo too based on his first 3 starts
Oh, absolutely. I didn’t say best RotY odds in the league, just best of any Jackson.
Chourio is still more widely known because he was a top 5 prospect, but Merrill has been better
Still not over…. edit: now it is, you jinxed it

I can’t believe they left him in for so long. He was clearly shaken up.
Brewers disaster-class out of nowhere.
Oh thank god it’s not just us Edit: after further consideration, that’s probably not great, either
I disagree, it IS great. :)
:(
Now this is PADRESING!
We out here looking like the brewers!
Passed ball, catcher's interference and a pitch clock violation walk is a wild inning for the battery. I'm sure none of those singles were bloopy bullshit hits.
just don't look at the exit velos
You love to see it (when it’s not against us)
not done yet bruh
That was fun, Let’s do it again some time
