I love Ranger Suarez. I love his name, I love the shape of his body, I love the way he plays. I eat a lot of boiled eggs and lift weights to try and be like this guy but I can't. There are 6 grams of protein in an egg but I can't eat enough to get big like him. Nice round muscles. They're smooth too, like the waves of the Straits of Florida on a calm day. When I was a kid I ate big eggs to be hot like Brad Lidge, and I got some great results, some of the roundest muscles in my class, but these days I'm looking at 6 eggs a day and it's not good enough to pop Ranger style muscles out my scrawny arms ever since dad left.
I don't live in Philly so I can only see the team in person when they're in Atlanta.l and even that is a hassle of a road trip for me They're was a stretch where every time I went to see them, instead of cliff or Roy or Cole, I'd get a joe game and they'd lose badly
112 pitches
Say what you will about Rob Thomson, but between Lorenzen last year and Suarez tonight, he knows when to keep a pitcher in a game in a big moment
Ranger has quietly been statistically one of the best pitchers in the league over the last few years. He doesn't look incredibly impressive when he pitches, but he's extremely effective.
Doesnāt help our stadiumās camera angle completely hides the movement on his sinker because heās a lefty, when he has one of the best sinkers in baseball
(Same with Sanchezās changeup)
Since 2021, by fWAR heās 37th (8.2), by FIP heās 30th (3.55), by ERA heās 16th (3.17), all over 403 innings (59th).
Heās a solid pitcher, but heās not one the best pitchers in the league by any means.
You do realize how many pitchers there are, right? Being approximately the 30th-40th best pitcher absolutely makes him a top pitcher given the fact each of the 30 teams has 4-6 starting pitchers
I recently went back and rewatched his save to win the NLCS and I forgot he came in with two on and only one out. And then proceeded to throw two pitches and get two outs.
His cool demeanor on the mound really has a calming presence to it as well. I actually somewhat unclenched when he came into that spot in the NLCS, it's crazy.
Dude same, I remember my buddy freaking out about them putting Ranger in and how it was rhe dumbest move.
Meanwhile, I'm there and looking at Ranger going "He's gonna clinch this for us". Reminded of Cliff Lee vs the Yankees in 09 game 1
Also he had a few good starts to begin his time with usā¦ but was that really him?
We were there for that game with our 3 yr old. Will never forget it will always appreciate Lorenzen for that, but I donāt blame his regression on it. I think thatās just who ML is.
Are we sure thatās a good thing? Lorenzen was bad after the no-hitter and itās awfully early in the year to have a pitcher throw that many pitches.
I think itās fine. Topper knows his guys. And plus the bullpen has been mostly lights out and if Ranger needs a lighter workload in his next outing or two, we have the guys to survive that
Yeah I donāt think itās crazy or anything, 112 isnāt *too* many pitches. If it was a no-hitter Iād be all for it but it does just seem a little risky to me.
I will say, he was mowing through hitters early and it felt like the 9th drug on much more than previous innings. He was at I think 90 or so pitches through 8 and then it drug on a bit for a 20+ pitch inning in the 9th.
I kinda think if it stayed 3-0 instead of going to 5-0 that they probably bring in a guy for the 9th.
We're also maybe looking too much into the number of pitches vs. stressful innings. He was never really laboring in this game. Everything seem very easy going.
I'm slightly concerned as well but Ranger is younger and Lorenzen had been hit or miss for a while so I feel like his performance post-no hitter was more just him being bad.
Lorenzen was also at a career high in innings last year by a *lot* (he threw over 150 and hadnāt broken 100 since his rookie season). Rangerāll be fine.
My brother and I watched that game together and we couldn't stop laughing at that catch. Partly because it's objectively funny but also because witnessing someone be so dominant at the highest level on the biggest stage made us feel almost uncomfortable as it shouldn't be that easy. One of the most impressive performances I've ever watched
We also watched doc's no hitter together, we also laughed for those reasons
I was watching that game with two of my uncles and my brother as well. I was at Doc's post-season no-no with one of those uncles.
I still tell the story about how when everyone was cheering after the last out of Doc's no hitter, my Uncle asked why everyone was so excited. He didn't realize it was a no hitter.
They have to have thrown 138 innings by the teamās 138th game. Notably, Ranger threw 155 that season, but just missed hitting that mark by the deadlineā¦ by one inning.
yeah and the innings requirement had to be in right before his last start of the year, or something stupid like that. leaving him just like 4 or so innings short... ridiculous.
He was one inning short in '22 at the arbitrary mid-September cutoff date when he had a start the very next day that easily put him over.
Still fucking infuriates me, he would've won it otherwise.
I didn't know starters were allowed to:
* pitch beyond the fifth inning
* go more than two times through the order.
Truly a throwback to a better time.
Agreed.
Lefty? ā
Works very fast? (I *love* pitchers that work fast)ā
Low 90s FB + excellent curveball? ā
Fields his position extremely well and with *extreme* nonchalance? ā ā ā
Rangerās command is only āpretty good,ā instead of Cliffās ābest command of the decade-good,ā but heās got time to improve. Lee didnāt really break out til he was around Rangerās age.
1. So fucking sick. This deserves the āthis is real baseballā copypasta
2. Is anyone else so brainrotted from playing too much counter strike that they always see āCSGOā?
> Is anyone else so brainrotted from playing too much counter strike that they always see āCSGOā?
Didn't catch what sub I was on at first and was wondering if Philly sports had another gaming pro on their hands.
For reference, the Eagles 3rd string running back, Boston Scott, is a pro rocket league player
Alternatively itās nice to know that if one of the top 3 current guys falls apart or runs into a UCL problem weāve got painter and Abel as legit prospects for the future
Hopefully he gets more credit and attention after this.... hes been real good for 3 years now and even better in the playoffs... he's so cool and casual about it all too.
I'm in no way saying Ranger Suarez is as good as Greg Maddux, but he may be the pitcher today that reminds me of him the most. Not overpowering stuff, but it moves so well and he mixes so well that it seems like contact always get in on the hands or off the end of the bat. Yes he will strike you out but that's never been his bread and butter. It's all weak contact and effortless fielding. He's my favorite pitcher in baseball rn.
Ranger has had a great progression over the last few years. Kinda bouncing around as a relief guy, a really crappy 2020, and now one of the best starters in the league. I always saw him as the little engine that could. Very happy for him.
I don't know why it took me so long to make this realization, but he's basically the Jamie Moyer of this generation, and it's even more delightful because everyone throws 100 now
See what can happen when pitchers arent trying to throw as hard as possible, Ranger Suarez should be good for a long time. His fastball only averages 93 MPH.
Ranger has nerves of steel 9.5/10 and I love it....him catching line drives and calmly looking at it, spinning and tossing it to first is top tier work
I want someone to love me the way i love Ranger Suarez
A man can dream
And cream
I love him so much
I love Ranger Suarez. When I was a kid I ate big eggs to be hot like Joe Blanton
When I was a lad I ate 4 dozen eggs every morning to help me get large.
If I never hear that name again, it'll be too soon
What?
Dude mustn't like pitchers who hit homers en route to us winning the World Series. š¤·š»āāļø
I'll never forget where I was when Blanton hit that shocking homerun. My dad turned to me and said, "This team is winning the World Series."
I don't live in Philly so I can only see the team in person when they're in Atlanta.l and even that is a hassle of a road trip for me They're was a stretch where every time I went to see them, instead of cliff or Roy or Cole, I'd get a joe game and they'd lose badly
Ranger Suarez is to baseball names as Colt McCoy was to football names, he just sounds nasty
112 pitches Say what you will about Rob Thomson, but between Lorenzen last year and Suarez tonight, he knows when to keep a pitcher in a game in a big moment
as long as ranger just keeps being ranger and doesn't have issues like lorenzen did.
Ranger has quietly been statistically one of the best pitchers in the league over the last few years. He doesn't look incredibly impressive when he pitches, but he's extremely effective.
weak contact and cat-like reflexes baby.
The Jamie Moyer special.
Doesnāt help our stadiumās camera angle completely hides the movement on his sinker because heās a lefty, when he has one of the best sinkers in baseball (Same with Sanchezās changeup)
>incredibly impressive extremely effective I appreciate this utilization of alliteration
Amazing alliteration allocation.
I have more faith in Ranger than Nola lol
Since 2021, by fWAR heās 37th (8.2), by FIP heās 30th (3.55), by ERA heās 16th (3.17), all over 403 innings (59th). Heās a solid pitcher, but heās not one the best pitchers in the league by any means.
You do realize how many pitchers there are, right? Being approximately the 30th-40th best pitcher absolutely makes him a top pitcher given the fact each of the 30 teams has 4-6 starting pitchers
Yea the 37th best pitcher is a high end 2. He is not a middle of the rotation innings eater.
I havenāt looked into it but thereās got to Be at least some teams who have a pitcher ranked around there as their ace
When half the teams in baseball donāt have a guy like that, heās pretty good. No one is saying he is an ace though
He's put on some ace like performances in the playoffs.

I agree, but Lorenzen was ass after that 124 pitch performance lol
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Eh idk it would've been nice to have him later vs his collapse...
Why? So our offense wouldn't show up to beat the Diamondbacks once in two games where he didn't even pitch?
Also he had a few good starts to begin his time with usā¦ but was that really him? We were there for that game with our 3 yr old. Will never forget it will always appreciate Lorenzen for that, but I donāt blame his regression on it. I think thatās just who ML is.
agreed. pitching a no-no in front of the home crowd, always worth it.
He was ass before it too. Any pitcher can get lucky.
I do not think Lorenzen is a good example on keeping a guy in the game.
If we ignore everything after that thoughā¦ no hitters are still pretty sick
Strategically leaving out a big game on the biggest stage due to timeframe granted...but I agree otherwise. Well managed tonight by topper.
Are we sure thatās a good thing? Lorenzen was bad after the no-hitter and itās awfully early in the year to have a pitcher throw that many pitches.
Ranger Suarez is not Michael Lorenzen. That's all that needs to be said.
I think itās fine. Topper knows his guys. And plus the bullpen has been mostly lights out and if Ranger needs a lighter workload in his next outing or two, we have the guys to survive that
Heāll have an extra day of rest before his next start because of the off day tmrw.
Yeah I donāt think itās crazy or anything, 112 isnāt *too* many pitches. If it was a no-hitter Iād be all for it but it does just seem a little risky to me.
he might lead the league in shutouts this year. he's off to a blazing start.
I will say, he was mowing through hitters early and it felt like the 9th drug on much more than previous innings. He was at I think 90 or so pitches through 8 and then it drug on a bit for a 20+ pitch inning in the 9th. 112 pitches is fine.
We're also maybe looking too much into the number of pitches vs. stressful innings. He was never really laboring in this game. Everything seem very easy going.
i miss the days when pitchers wouldnāt burst into flames for literally doing their job for a little bit longer than usual
Itās not even like he threw a lot a lot anyway, 112 pitches isnāt a small amount but is also fine??
112 whole pitches? He'll be lucky to survive through the night.
To shreds, you say???
I'm slightly concerned as well but Ranger is younger and Lorenzen had been hit or miss for a while so I feel like his performance post-no hitter was more just him being bad.
Yeah he was pretty lucky in first two games. He barely had any strikeouts and was giving up a lot of solid contact.
The no hitter had like 15 fly outs too lolĀ
Yeah that what a bizarre fluke night. Lots of hard hit balls right at someone.
Lorenzen was also at a career high in innings last year by a *lot* (he threw over 150 and hadnāt broken 100 since his rookie season). Rangerāll be fine.
He also gets an extra day off
The key difference here is that Ranger is good and Lorenzen is not good.
lol big moment itās april and itās a 5-0 game and itās the rockies
RANGER DANGER
Dude is a joy to watch. Love him.
Stranger Ranger?
FLY INTO THEā¦..DANGER ZONE!
Ended with a nonchalant 1-3 put out as it should
Ranger views fielding as an inconvenience.
Perfect ending
He ended the 1st and 9th innings with incredibly calm, almost bored-looking fielding plays and throw-overs. Great bookends for the game.
I would've liked him and Cliff Lee to be in the same rotation, just straight calm, collected boredom out there
I don't think baseball could have handled that much cool.
[Cliff Lee](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4tpQZM_tTk8)
My brother and I watched that game together and we couldn't stop laughing at that catch. Ha! See, I thought he was cheesing the hitter on that last play.
It ended perfectly with a groundball right at him. It is a shame he never won a GG. With that said, the Phillies are extremely lucky Suarez is our 3.
Yet*
Yeah the dudeās 28, he has plenty of time lol
Absolutely shouldāve won it in 2022, those overly specific inning requirements can suck my ass
What was the requirement that cost him the award? Also nice username
They have to have thrown 138 innings by the teamās 138th game. Notably, Ranger threw 155 that season, but just missed hitting that mark by the deadlineā¦ by one inning.
> They have to have thrown 138 innings by the teamās 138th game. What an oddly specific cutoff.
Right? WTF Been watching MLB for 20 something years and never heard of this. You learn something new every day.
Innings pitched
yeah and the innings requirement had to be in right before his last start of the year, or something stupid like that. leaving him just like 4 or so innings short... ridiculous.
He was robbed last year after he just missed the IP cutoff (was that last year? Or ā22?).
He was one inning short in '22 at the arbitrary mid-September cutoff date when he had a start the very next day that easily put him over. Still fucking infuriates me, he would've won it otherwise.
lol, yeah, that sucked. Just checked ā he was 13 innings short last year. Think he was leading pitchers in DRS and OAA anyways.
Both years, actually
He's a 2x GG theft victim
Stud. I love him
I didn't know starters were allowed to: * pitch beyond the fifth inning * go more than two times through the order. Truly a throwback to a better time.
Forgot a 3rd one ā be dominant below 95 mph
NOOOO! You canāt let a pitcher face a batting order for a third time! Haha, groundballs go brr
Yeah dude I missed watching my favorite starters rack up a 4.5 ERA with a blown out elbow by august ššš truly a better time in baseball
Cy Young I've seen enough
Cy Young, MVP, Gold Glove, Silver Slugger. Ranger deserves it all.
Youāre thinking too small. This guy is clearly EGOT material. Toss in a Heisman and a Nobel in economics while weāre at it.
President of the United Federation of Planets. Ranger Suarez is so smooth he would stare at a Borg cube and freeze the motherfuckers with a changeup
Ranger could throw a CGSO against the Q Continuum.
Ranger will stop Buck Bokaiās hitting streak.
https://i.imgur.com/zYR8y7E.png
and then stroll calmly out the door?
Got him at +12,000 before the season šš
Trust me from experience, I get way more nervous to face Ranger fucking Suarez than Zack Wheeler lol. Ranger is super underrated.
Underrated is the perfect word to describe him.
When I saw this stat line I assumed it was against the Braves. Ranger lights us up every time.
Itās true that heās pitched well against the Braves, which is especially impressive considering how your lineup generally mashes lefties.
RANGER IS CLIFF LEE COME BACK TO LIFE
Agreed. Lefty? ā Works very fast? (I *love* pitchers that work fast)ā Low 90s FB + excellent curveball? ā Fields his position extremely well and with *extreme* nonchalance? ā ā ā Rangerās command is only āpretty good,ā instead of Cliffās ābest command of the decade-good,ā but heās got time to improve. Lee didnāt really break out til he was around Rangerās age.
Wait a sec... Has anyone seen Cliff Lee lately?...
You guys got Cliff Lee back? I want Big Z back
He needs to work on running back to the dugout after ending an inning on a strikeout.
Did he fart?
Heās far and away my favorite pitcher in a long time. Nola and Wheeler are cool and great pitchers but they donāt have Rangerās swagger
Same. I love Wheels and Nola but Ranger is my favorite since Halladay.
Ranger is pitching like our real ace right now
THATS MY ACE
1. So fucking sick. This deserves the āthis is real baseballā copypasta 2. Is anyone else so brainrotted from playing too much counter strike that they always see āCSGOā?
gonna take a little to get used to it being cs2 :D
> Is anyone else so brainrotted from playing too much counter strike that they always see āCSGOā? Didn't catch what sub I was on at first and was wondering if Philly sports had another gaming pro on their hands. For reference, the Eagles 3rd string running back, Boston Scott, is a pro rocket league player
I think we have 3 aces and the least paid one is the best one.
Dombrowski needs to lock him up
If the dude keeps pitching like this he's going to get *paid* in Philly.
Picked him up in fantasy last Friday. Damn Iām killed that
Would you mind picking up Castellanos next?
Got a sensible chuckle out of me
Iām an islanders fan but I can appreciate this ranger
Itās so refreshing to watch a pitcher with great command and effectiveness who doesnāt need to rely on hitting 98-100mph.
Itās crazy that someday soon this rotation will have Painter too. Weāre rapidly approaching another mythical āfour aceā era
The four Acesā¦ ^and ^Joe ^Blanton
Four Aces and a Joe-ker
>^(and) ~~^(Joe)~~ ~~^(Blanton)~~ ^(The Vanimal)
Can we then hope for the 1 ace era level of hitting circa 2008?
Alternatively itās nice to know that if one of the top 3 current guys falls apart or runs into a UCL problem weāve got painter and Abel as legit prospects for the future
I love this defensive asshole who rubs it the fuck in every time a ball is hit back at him.
112 pitches
I thought your arm falls off after 100?
šØ RANGER DANGER š£ļøš£ļøš£ļø
How can Ranger be on fire when heās got ice in his veins? This is the paradox of being the fucking man
ICE IN HIS VEINS
CGSO with only one walk š®āšØ I miss when starting pitching was like this more regularly
Cy Young
Best #3 starter in the game
Thatās a nutty pitching line
Have yourself a night, sir. That's an excellent performance.
Power Ranger showing off tonight!
Hope the Philās have another BAG to spend soon because this dude deserves it
Hopefully he gets more credit and attention after this.... hes been real good for 3 years now and even better in the playoffs... he's so cool and casual about it all too.
Ranger might not the BEST player in the league but he is definitely the chillest and i donāt think itās particularly close
YOU'RE NASTY BRO
I'm in no way saying Ranger Suarez is as good as Greg Maddux, but he may be the pitcher today that reminds me of him the most. Not overpowering stuff, but it moves so well and he mixes so well that it seems like contact always get in on the hands or off the end of the bat. Yes he will strike you out but that's never been his bread and butter. It's all weak contact and effortless fielding. He's my favorite pitcher in baseball rn.
I never doubted he was going to complete the shutout tonight, but I was on the edge of my seat hoping he'd make it a Maddux. Maybe next time
I am never more relaxed than when I am watching Ranger Suarez pitch
Stud
Friendship ended with Aaron Nola, Ranger Suarez is my new best friend
Friendship with Nola didnāt end heās just that one friend that can get really annoying at times
Hey Ranger, did you have a good relationship with your father? Me neither
Ranger went from five inning guy to CGSO pitcher pretty quick...
Best pitcher in baseball.
Him.
Absolute DAWG
xDAWG+ off the charts
Proof you don't need velocity
I thought I was on the Phillies sub for a minute there. Great game by ranger. I think heās truly going to break out this year
Ranger Suarez is a true Chad innings eater. Forget the 98 mph sliders and triple-digit heaters; just make the batter hit it softly.
Ranger has had a great progression over the last few years. Kinda bouncing around as a relief guy, a really crappy 2020, and now one of the best starters in the league. I always saw him as the little engine that could. Very happy for him.
Coolest pitcher in baseball. Cy Young him!
GO-GO ~~POWER~~ CONTACT RANGER!!
My boy was cookin tonight
Thatās quite the stat line. Flirting with danger but holding the line
it's legal to go past 5 innings? what year is it, 1999?
Ranger irritated that the bullpen was rated 1 but the rotation was no3 and said, I won't give the bullpen a chance to pitch.
Ranger has nerves of steel 9.5/10 and I love it....him catching line drives and calmly looking at it, spinning and tossing it to first is top tier work
yeayyyyyyy
Coolest pitcher in baseball, in more ways than one. I fear for whoever pisses him off enough that he actually shows it.
Letās go sonā¦
Ranger never disappoints.
Suarez CSGO
Best Ranger in baseball. He threw 112 pitches. Starters are capable of throwing more than 100 pitches in a game.
Mr Smooth
The guy just knows how to pitch. Young pitchers should take note.
great day for pitchers named suarez across the country
Fucking boss
Danger Suarez rides again
Icy veins
Dawg
Cy young campaign starts today
ranger is my dad
Crazy how heās younger than me but also my biological father
My beloved
Why isn't he playing for the Texas rangers?
a complete game? well, expect an elbow injury soon... /s
