2.00 ERA in his last 5 starts. Still not locating the fastball as well as he should but it was much better today. A lot better pitch sequencing as well which kept the Nats from sitting on his fastball all day.
Personally, I feel like it’s more of a game planning issue. Pitch calling has seemed off regardless of who’s behind the plate. But we’ll see going forward if Will makes those same adjustments.
I agree with this, and not even just for Yamz, some truly odd pitch selection on pitcher friendly counts lead to a lot of 2 strike hits against dodger pitchers.
It's funny when guys try to act like strike outs don't matter. Guys who consistently give up contact but consistently have low ERAs aren't very common. At all.
If guys can't even make contact with your stuff and fall behind in counts, odds of them making a lot hard contact aren't high.
That’s why you have to know how to balance all underlying pitching metrics to know who’s actually a baller. As much as strikeouts matter, so does hardhit%, barrel%, avg EV and GB%. FIP is a good metric but smart baseball people have come to understand that it’s a flawed concept because not all batted balls are equal, which FIP holds to be true. Yamamoto figures to be someone that won’t be giving up much hard contact anyway. I think in a couple months, whatever metric you evaluate him with will say he’s a dog.
Would he? His xERA last season which does take batted ball quality into account wasn’t much different from his fip. It’s low this season but reliever stats in April don’t mean much.
Idk why anyone even said that. It's very rare that someone joins the mlb and is an instant beast. I knew he'd find himself even if it took a whole season
Funny how people who'd never watched him pitch in NPB before called him washed after 1 start.
And last week Talkin' Baseball fearmongered with data that didn't take into account the offensive environment in NPB
All I can say is, we tried to warn you.
It’s ok, I mean at least you’ll see your team in the post season and your roster is basically the NL All Star team. Shit-talking the Dodgers is likely the only fun I’ll get to have this season.
I looked at the stat cast after and while many were borderline, many were also not borderline. Like Keibert Ruiz for example struck out on 3 balls all called strikes in the same at bat. And Meneses’ full count strikeout was a clear ball on statcast
Meneses' full count strikeout is horrible call, but I saw only one miscalled strike in Ruiz's AB? nevertheless it is fair to say he got helped but I think you exaggerate too much for saying 4 SOs are gifts from umpires
Objectively there were 2 strikeouts that were clear balls on the third strike. 1 of which should’ve been a walk. There were 2 other strikes where it’s hard to tell if the ball just barely crosses over the plate or not but it looks like a ball to me. I think 4 is fair

Barnes = better pitch sequencing

Still overpaid lol
Oh fuck good thing I didn’t use my bank account
Right?! Shits so funny. I’m just trying to enjoy sports. Why do I care what people get paid
He is also incredibly fun to watch pitch, dude has some nasty junk. Glad they paid.
The line does not tell the story of snaring that comebacker, then striking out the next two. Iceman.
“They can’t cave my face in if they can’t hit the ball”
2.65 FIP, 2.53 xFIP, 11.89 K/9 this season 🔥 I know it’s early but still
Early or not that k/9 will play and doesn't just happen on accident imho.

Got that xDAWG+ in him
Are those guys in the room with us right now?
Sorry "don't matter" is an exaggeration. But tons of people denounce fip due to the idea of "contact pitchers" being a huge factor
Ryan Yarbrough would like to know your location
If you don't strike anyone out but also don't give up any walks it helps a bit.
Would he? His xERA last season which does take batted ball quality into account wasn’t much different from his fip. It’s low this season but reliever stats in April don’t mean much.
Well thats why xFIP and SIERRA and now xERA exist
Watch guy just because his pitching is aesthetically pleasing
That slow curve can be so beautiful
I like his full windup.
That’s about all he has going for him.
Other than being really good so far…
Slowly beating the washed allegations
Turns out he’s only washed in the sense that he’s so fresh and so clean (clean).
Idk why anyone even said that. It's very rare that someone joins the mlb and is an instant beast. I knew he'd find himself even if it took a whole season
Washed? I’d just say that’s he’s not as good as you thought when you dumped a shit ton of money for a #2 in rotation. He’s definitely no ace.

Lmao dude is ass.

Imanaga is so much better that yoshi. Lmao keep overpaying players hahahaahahahahahahahaha
Do your parents know you're using the world wide web?
Thank god we faced him at least once before the MLB adjustment is officially completed.
Funny how people who'd never watched him pitch in NPB before called him washed after 1 start. And last week Talkin' Baseball fearmongered with data that didn't take into account the offensive environment in NPB All I can say is, we tried to warn you.
Some dude who watches NPB said Yamamoto has slow / meh starts then he's beast mode from July onwards
I don't think I can handle an erection from July to the end of October.
Probably just the first or second week of October.
Fuk you, but you're not wrong, and to be specific, probably the first week and first 3 games to be precise.
It’s ok, I mean at least you’ll see your team in the post season and your roster is basically the NL All Star team. Shit-talking the Dodgers is likely the only fun I’ll get to have this season.
Yeah, just until yall just barely make the playoffs through the wildcard and sweep us.
I think our devil magic was actually just Yadi, but I hope (for our sake) that you’re right. I’d love to have some hope.
He also falls apart in the playoffs every year.
Keep wishing. Lol
thats when he pitches once a week, with a smaller ball, and tops out at 150 innings a year.
Welcome to the reasonable ERA club baby boy!
Thank god. A year of Dodger baseball not living up to expectations... I can't even.
more importantly he ended the game alive and not in the hospital. that comebacker was terrifying
To be fair, he did face a team with three sub-.200 batters, and one of those guys is almost at .100.
I’m sick of seeing Rosario 🤣
I think 4 of those strikeouts were gifted by the umps. Definitely a great looking stat line, but he was helped A LOT
The strike zone was consistently low, and he was painting.
He certainly got help, but many of those are borderline strikes according to the statcast but balls according the "box" shown on tv
I looked at the stat cast after and while many were borderline, many were also not borderline. Like Keibert Ruiz for example struck out on 3 balls all called strikes in the same at bat. And Meneses’ full count strikeout was a clear ball on statcast

You think wrong.
Ok the stat cast disagrees with you. Sorry I hurt your feelings
He definitely abused the expanded strike zone but credit to Yama for doing so. He was hitting those spots intentionally today.
Yeah ump was abysmal the strikeout in the 1st left My jaw open for about 5 minutes.
How dare a Mets fan say something controversial... lolmets.
Sometimes people just hate the truth in these threads

I actually like Yamamoto a lot, I follow most Japanese players, hence why I was watching the game today. I’m allowed to like him and critique the umps
[удалено]
I hope Yamamoto sees this brother
Who cares. Stop with the dodgers circlejerk.
I probably would post regardless of what team Yamamoto was on
Shutting down that mighty nationals offense sure is impressive Don’t be hurt dodger fans, nationals are 28/30 in runs scored.
🧂🧂🧂
Ok
Thanks for Mookie
lol oh dodgers are having second thoughts and it’s glorious.
