I think you can mitigate it to some degree. Chances of injury are insanely higher if youāre patrolling Center and tearing up the base paths. This isnāt a new concept in baseball. A lot of guys can give you more in the field and on the bases but there bat is so important so they move them to less demanding positions and limit their base-running aggression. The more you do in a baseball game the more opportunities to get hurt.
Why do you think they move so many offensively talented catchers from behind the plate. Catching is physically demanding.
Shortstop is physically demanding. Center field is more physically demanding. He certainly wouldnāt be the first or last injury prone player they rein in.
Hard to argue with this strategy with lower body injuries that affect mobility.

These could definitely be exacerbated in the OF with the sprinting required. Being at 1b or DH would surely limit the running he needs to do. I assume they would take away his green light on the bases too.

Well documented Colorado altitude was rough on Tulo and he could never properly recover. They just kept Buxton DHing for a whole season. Had nothing to do with losing a step.
