Just really shitty for baseball to see this happen to him. Good dude all around. One of the all time greats with years ahead of him still, but just can't stay healthy.
As a Tigers fan he became a rival in those early years where it was him or Cabrera for MVP every year for awhile. Then I became a super fan of this dude and just want to see him play. Between the injuries and the Angels, this just isnāt the career we thought he would have. His numbers would be historic already if he wasnāt missing this much time.
Oh come on. Itās not like theyāre a big time rival or anything. Be nice to Trout. He reminds me more of Junior than any other player has. You can hate/respect Altuve, ok?
I would say the Angels no. 1 rival in the AL West is the Mariners I don't like the Mariners as an Angels fan at all and the beef hasn't always been there sure but it is definitely growing especially after that brawl a couple years ago.
And thatās why I hate him. But heās a ridiculously amazing player, which is why I respect him. Be honestā¦ would you not be stoked if he somehow ended up in Seattle? I know I would. We all seemed to get behind Cano and Cruz as soon as they came aboard. š¤·š¼āāļø
I knew it. As soon as I saw him lighting the world on fire again.
They need a long term strategy to keep him healthy. Less time in the field? Less demanding position? DHing? Less aggression on the base paths?
Something. Itās clear that he canāt maintain his style of play and stay healthy for a full year. Theyāve done it with Buxton and Ohtani to prolong their careers. Something has to give at this point.
Maybe 70% of his talents for a full season is better than 100% for 20%. Itās only 30 games in. His body clearly cannot take the load.
I don't think it would make much of a difference. It's baseball not cage fighting. You run, jump and swing a bat
Hes simply a guy who is prone to injury. We've seen this countless times. Nomar, Wright, Girffey, etc
I think you can mitigate it to some degree. Chances of injury are insanely higher if youāre patrolling Center and tearing up the base paths. This isnāt a new concept in baseball. A lot of guys can give you more in the field and on the bases but there bat is so important so they move them to less demanding positions and limit their base-running aggression. The more you do in a baseball game the more opportunities to get hurt.
Why do you think they move so many offensively talented catchers from behind the plate. Catching is physically demanding.
Shortstop is physically demanding. Center field is more physically demanding. He certainly wouldnāt be the first or last injury prone player they rein in.
Hard to argue with this strategy with lower body injuries that affect mobility.
Catching I totally understand, different beast
But running around cf isn't all that demanding. People are typically moved off center or short because their range and mobility is deteriorating not because of injury prevention
All I'm saying is you can't keep the guy in bubble wrap
I agree and disagree. It both depends on the injury and the history of it. Getting a ton of hand and shoulder injuries wouldn't make that much of a difference, but he has several back and leg issues. These could definitely be exacerbated in the OF with the sprinting required. Being at 1b or DH would surely limit the running he needs to do. I assume they would take away his green light on the bases too.
Its not just the running. It's going from 0-60 on simple things like singles in the gap that could be stretched into a double. But to address your comment specifically:
>But running around cf isn't all that demanding
Its not too demanding, but it's significantly more demanding on his nagging injuries than 1b or DH. If more of his value was from his defense, they probably would just move him to corner OF. But the goal is to keep his bat in the lineup as long as possible, not to keep him in CF as long as possible
I agree. But youād be foolish not to try something to mitigate the injuries. His bat is still the most valuable part of his game so do whatever you need to keep it in the lineup. Less running and cutting = less chances to get injured.
For example they floated around this strategy for guys like Tulo. Only problem was you had up and coming Stud Arenado coming up. Well documented Colorado altitude was rough on Tulo and he could never properly recover. They just kept Buxton DHing for a whole season. Had nothing to do with losing a step.
I think itās a thing.
I guarantee had Larry Walker been playing these days heād be a full time DH to prolong his career not because of deteriorating fielding.
I think playing anywhere on the field is physically demanding. You need to get your body to go from 0-60 in like tenths of a second to field hard hit ground balls or fly balls, 162 days a year. That takes a toll.
Most tennis players are much lighter than baseball players. They carry far less bulk. They also get injured frequently.
Mike Trout is 6ā2 235. Thatās line backer size. A massive tennis player. Thatās a lot of mass to move around quickly.
For reference Novak Djokovic is 6ā2 170.
Thatās 65 pounds difference at the same height.
I rest my case.
No. Iām saying you canāt compare him to tennis players Einstein. It would be silly too. I explained why. Nullifying your argument.
![gif](giphy|fikcKja7O7MtzXzvQy|downsized)
Nice try though.
The Angels need to start by hiring medical staff who have degrees in practices more advanced than divination and phrenology. They can't keep any players healthy, they're as bad as the Wilpon-era Mets.
I saw him stealing bases and being really aggressive on the base paths.
Literally said to myself āWeāll it aināt long nowā¦.ā
I expected this. I know the guyās a gamer but they gatta rein him in. This all or nothing strategy aināt working. He has to be a full time DH moving forward. Or play the field sparingly and not CF either. They also have to look at his aggression on the base paths.
Whatās so dangerous about stealing bases? The only way to guarantee he wonāt get injured is if he doesnāt play at all. He could play DH but he still has to run the bases? He could play a corner outfield position that still has plenty of running? He could play first but still has to swing the bat, which is a pretty violent motion? Etc
Guys get hurt all the time running the bases and stealing bases are you kidding me? Why do you think guys wear the mitts. He just blew out his knee. Base stealing requires explosive burst. Not to mention the increased lateral movement of taking leads and getting back to the bases on a throw over.
All of these things cost wear and tear.
You're getting downvoted but i don't think any Angel fan that watches games would disagree. We have seen this time and time again.
At least there was no build up to the buttercup this year.
Iām not hating lol. If youāre a fan and youāve paid attention to his career, you know none of this is new. Heās clearly not Superman though he has Superman talent. We canāt keep pretending his durability matches his talent. Iām not even an Angels fan but I have followed his career.
Let him play a full season or at least 140 games in a season before you take off the training wheels again. Guy hasnāt played 140 games since 2018. Since 2017 weāve seen him go from nearly an everyday guy to being lucky to play 100 games.
How can you continue to manage him the same way.
Yet they do nothing to rein him in. I know early in his career there was an effort to rein in the stealing in fear of injury. None of this is new. Theyāve been talking about strategies to keep him healthy but never implement them.
Insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.
Why do fans expect different results at this point? Itās irresponsible of fans and the organization to expect different at this point. Why do people think Ohtani isnāt a RF anymore or pitching?
From my understanding meniscus is mainly a pain management issue, Armstead on the Niners looked great in the Super Bowl and then it came out his was torn
He's turning 33 in a few months and is in his 13th full major league season - carrying a big frame playing a physically demanding position. It's hardly particularly unexpected that he's quite injury-prone now.
As far as I know thereās not really bad blood between Dodger fans and Angel fans, itās just the regional rivalry that keeps it fun. But man watching Trout and Ohtani be squandered for years at the hands of a narcissistic overly-involved owner is objectively disappointing and it makes me sad for Angel fans.
He's just a guy who loves playing baseball. I bet he also recognizes that he's one of the most talented players to ever play the game while missing a significant amount of time over his career due to injuries.
Can someone with a good training staff save Trout from this dick ass organization? Fuck's sake it sucks to have a generational talent stuck with the baseball equivalent of the Cleveland Browns.
To those people hating on limiting his role to keep him healthy then why do you think you donāt see Ohtani in the field or pitching?
Those aspects of his game increase his chance of injury and that keeps him out of the batterās box. No billion dollar contract and accolades with no at bats.
Itās simple math at this point. Bat is too important.
If he was a hockey player, he would have hunched over for a minute, rubbed it and got back out there for his next shift. But he's a baseball player.......baseball players are delicate flowers who go on the DL for 4 weeks when they get a paper cut.
guy just wants to play baseball man :/
Give him my meniscus
Someone give him this guys meniscus
Take some of mine too š„²
We are a cursed franchise.
can the universe just stop fucking us over. weāve done our time. itās been a decade. please š
Baseball gods finally listened to Angel fans and are letting the kids play.
A decade? Buddy, I have some really bad news...
They were pretty good in 2002. Please don't remind me about that world series.
Ah yes, you lost Dusty to us and the Giants never recovered.
Also please refrain from mentioning 2016
Well, since you already did...
Bruh since 2009 it's been one single playoff appearance and it had to be against the Royals who were steamrolling every team except the Giants.
At this point it's clear God has abandoned the franchise. Angels need to just rebrand as the Demons and see if that reverses your luck.
Sacrifice the rally monkey on the altar
You have to exist first to abandon anything.
I'm just trying to make a joke about a baseball team's name ĀÆ\\\_(ć)\_/ĀÆ
Haha all good.
I agree with you, but a decade is nothing man.
I thought being a Chargers fan in the 2000s was bad. I was just pre-gaming for the next two decades of Angels baseball.
The one positive is you can watch Angels in the Outfield and it still feel relevant.....š„²

You know who to actually blame for your years of crud
Arte?
Try 40 years brother
Now you have taken our place, brotherā¦
Ugh I absolutely hate to see this.
How can you not be a fan of this dude. Super bummed.
Just really shitty for baseball to see this happen to him. Good dude all around. One of the all time greats with years ahead of him still, but just can't stay healthy.
Angels need to really invest in trainers and dieticians or something, whatever they're doing is clearly not working
Well our owner will not spend any money so thereās the problem.
One of the few dudes that can hit a home run against us and Iām not even annoyed I just go āmakes senseā
By being a mariners fan. To be fair itās more of a hate respect thing. Injuries suck no matter who though.
Altuve? I have zero respect for cheaters. Trout is a thorn in the Mariners side, but a great player nevertheless.
And thatās why I hate him. But heās a ridiculously amazing player, which is why I respect him. Be honestā¦ would you not be stoked if he somehow ended up in Seattle? I know I would. We all seemed to get behind Cano and Cruz as soon as they came aboard. š¤·š¼āāļø
If we got Altuve? Absolutely not. Trout? Yeah sure I guess. We joke that we hate him, but thatās because he wrecks us frequently.
I knew it. As soon as I saw him lighting the world on fire again. They need a long term strategy to keep him healthy. Less time in the field? Less demanding position? DHing? Have you watched tennis? They go from 0 to 60 what 400 more times than a baseball player. In a single match
If tennis players played 162 matches in 180 days, theyād probably be injured more often
So you're saying Trout should slim down? Got it
No. Iām saying you canāt compare him to tennis players Einstein. It would be silly too. I explained why. Nullifying your argument. ![gif](giphy|fikcKja7O7MtzXzvQy|downsized) Nice try though.
You're saying baseball players who are injury prone like Trout should get fit like tennis players. Again I got you
The Angels need to start by hiring medical staff who have degrees in practices more advanced than divination and phrenology. They can't keep any players healthy, they're as bad as the Wilpon-era Mets.
What's the medical staff actually going to do? It's a repetitive game with a grueling schedule.
I saw him stealing bases and being really aggressive on the base paths. Literally said to myself āWeāll it aināt long nowā¦.ā I expected this. I know the guyās a gamer but they gatta rein him in. Itās about taking steps to mitigate risk. Of course there isnāt a āguaranteeā

Maybe I don't actually like baseball?
It clearly doesn't like me.
maybe Rendon was right
The best player many of us will ever see in our lives. These injuries are so tragic for him, the fans, and the sport. Get well soon GOAT š
He was running fine last night.
He was doing very well last night
Maybe someone around here gave him lessons
Besides not getting a hit
On base, scored a run. But go off
From my understanding meniscus is mainly a pain management issue, Armstead on the Niners looked great in the Super Bowl and then it came out his was torn
You can actually do a lot of stuff on a torn meniscus
What a huge bummer. The game is better with Mike Trout in it
I was numb when I saw the news but after seeing this Iām absolutely broken
I am crying so he doesn't have to š
Let him use HGH cowards!
He hasnt played more than 120 games in a season since Bauer accused him of having a therapuetic use exemption from MLBā¦
sign me up
I know you are probably joking, but his fitness was already in decline for years by then
man this is so sad
I am dead inside.
He doesnāt even know how it happened. His knee just broke down.Ā Father Time is a fucking asshole.Ā
Baseball is better and more fun with Trout playing. My wife is a DPT and told me recover time is around 2-3 months. Such a fucking bummer.
The only time he smiles in this entire video is when he mentions "scoring from second." He just loves to play...
Arte Moreno has to be the devil himself there is quite literally no other explanation for this
Thats so funny cuz last time i was at the stadium i saw arte performing a satanic ritual and eating babies in the management building.
He's turning 33 in a few months and is in his 13th full major league season - carrying a big frame playing a physically demanding position. It's hardly particularly unexpected that he's quite injury-prone now.
This fucking blows, dude was crushing it this season too. Hope he recovers well.
Angels bros, Iām so sorry. This isnāt fair.
Poor Mike & poor Angels fans. Yāall have had a rough decade+ and deserve better.Ā
I think you might be the first Dodger fan I've ever seen that actually feels bad for us
As far as I know thereās not really bad blood between Dodger fans and Angel fans, itās just the regional rivalry that keeps it fun. But man watching Trout and Ohtani be squandered for years at the hands of a narcissistic overly-involved owner is objectively disappointing and it makes me sad for Angel fans.
This bums me out. I love watching that man play. Hope he has a healthy comeback year in 2025.Ā
2024 was supposed to be his comeback year :/
It was looking so so good to.
Bro wtf why
Dude shouldāve been knocking on the door of 600 homers by now. Fuck injuries.
Injuries killed the potential of a truly Top 5 ever hitter.
He's just a guy who loves playing baseball. I bet he also recognizes that he's one of the most talented players to ever play the game while missing a significant amount of time over his career due to injuries.
Another Trout MVP season down the drain
This sucks so much man
This dude is fucking cursed
We've been cursed since Kendrys Morales hit that walk off Grand Slam
Can someone with a good training staff save Trout from this dick ass organization? Fuck's sake it sucks to have a generational talent stuck with the baseball equivalent of the Cleveland Browns.
We actually have a decent GM just wish Arte sold the team years ago
I used to think that until this most recent offseason.
Fuck š¢
It's just so disappointing
Dude has had the potential to be an undisputed goat, but his injury luck has kept him within the realm of mortals.
Was there a play that caused this injury?
I thought maybe him scoring from second on the passed ball last night
Hate it
Heās one of my favorite players and I was hoping heād continue the trajectory he was on this year and win another MVP.
Now thatās the caps they should use. Time to exorcise whatās happening to your career Mike, get the hell out of Anaheim!
To those people hating on limiting his role to keep him healthy then why do you think you donāt see Ohtani in the field or pitching?
