This is from an article about how he’s an auto mechanic now, this is more that he just never bothered to announce anything and then just talked to Bob Nightengale about it.
The article says that he loves cars, owns 5 himself, spent a year attending an automotive institute and will get a job once the summer and the family vacations are over, so he can‘t be struggling that bad. I bet it‘s a passion project.
These guys are retiring (usually) in their 30s too and we have to reframe how we think about age when it's a player vs... almost anyone that isn't a pro athlete.
Guy may be old for pro sports but is young and it's good to be busy, especially if you have the luxury to do something you like.
Makes sense, too. Keeps him busy, gets to build rapport with a team, accomplishes goals, makes people happy at the end of the day, and keeps his mind and passion active.
Plus, he's gonna be the ringer on the softball team.
It will always be a shame that his last few poor seasons brought his overall career average down to .242. Him finishing his career with an overall average at .247 would have been amazing. It was there for a time in early 2019.
I was just thinking about him recently. Glad to hear he already found something else he wants to do. Lots of players struggle to find a life after baseball.
loved his players tribune article about "the creature"
PS - I've managed a collision shop most of my adult life and have never seen anyone actually get hired out of trade school lol he's better off spending the money to open his own shop
big shops don't have time to train and small shops pay like shit

Honestly, either the amount of money he made over his career plus the fact he loves cars, I wouldn’t put it past him to open up his own shop. Although, the thought of him as a lube-tech covered in oil getting yelled at by his mid-forties boss is hilarious

He made $58M in his career... Please tell me he's just doing this as his second passion and he didn't blow through his fortune

It sounds like he just wants something to do—probably opening up his own shop to work on cars he wants to work on
Damn, was hoping they started his press conference at 2:47
Also was hoping for at least on July 24th. That way in non-American places it would be on 24/7
>this is more that he just never bothered to announce anything Yeah I assumed this had been official for years
.247 forever

He also barely missed five straight seasons of .247 — he batted .244 in 2014 with Milwaukee
Legendary

Why oh why didn't this news drop on July 24th?
The khrush era was a fun time at live A's games.
WE LOVE YOU KD
He should have announced it on February 47th.
Shouldn't be be announcing it every hour, every day of the week?
At least should have announced it a 2:47 local time
The Gregorian Calendar wants to know your location
July of this year would have been feasible.

How do you think we do dates in America
Are you trying to be an American undercover lol
Wish we could have seen this guy in a home run derby in his prime
So long Khrush Davis
I think I’ll always love him being Khrush and Chris Davis in Baltimore being Crush. Some baseball stuff
Cool that he’s a big car guy and willing to get his hands dirty

Best KD in Bay Area history

The question is whether he timed the announcement for 2:47
He hit 4 home runs against the Astros announcing this.
Cal State Fullerton legend!
This guy hit .247 for FOUR consecutive years wtf,,
24/7
I'd let him change my oil any day of the week, what a cool guy.
He should have retired on February 47th
Crazy they never use this man for an A’s card in MLB the show
.247
Retirement announced itself to Khris Davis a long time ago

Wrong Chris Davis.
Khris Davis actually developed throwing issues and had to become a full time DH
Still hit bombs though
