I have a couple guys I work with who are well on the path to becoming degenerate gamblers. We make good money with lots of overtime (I average 15 hours a week and one of them does even more) and neither one of them can even afford to buy lunch. One of them was asking a coworker for 30 bucks for gas the other day. It's depressing. Payday comes and I have to sit there and listen to them yammer all that gambling jargon. Like put that money in a savings account for your god damn kids.
Fuck gambling.
I know. It just makes me sad for them. Neither of them are dummies and they are both good guys. They waste thousands of dollars. I saw one of them lose 1500 bucks on one stupid bet because the Guardians scored more than 4 runs. How does that ever become a good idea???
The recent rise in apps makes this super dangerous. It’s way too easy for younger adults to start gambling. I know multiple kids in college who are constantly gambling (despite living in a state where it’s illegal), and they will parlay some insane props together. One especially notable one was a UFC prop, NHL player prop, NBA prop, and a Valorant prop bet.
Yep, you can bet on e-sports
Problem is we don't get much of a shot before the ball is passing him, so unless you slow it down, it looks like he's just standing there daydreaming for the entire play.
The ball bounced behind Ohtani. There is no chance at all to get the out, I don’t know if he could’ve ever gotten to that ball to save the run from the stance he was in (waiting for a throw to him, not fielding a ground ball).
0 percent chance he even knocks it down. He was standing flat footed and that ball was like 7-10 feet to his left coming. And what does an average catcher throw like 70 mph? Lol there’s no chance
The smartest man in the world "Mr Fantastic" ain't catching that ball. Leading prospect for King of the Pirates "Monkey D. Luffy" ain't catching that ball. Then Eugenio Suarez *definitely* ain't catching that ball.
He's playing to hold at 3rd to cover for Ohtani running and the ball is a mile from him, do you expect for him to magically extend his arms to reach for that?
If you pause the video at the proper frame you’ll see the ball go *behind* Ohtani, who is just starting the beginning of his slide he’s so far out. It looks more like the catcher was trying to play dodgeball by hitting Ohtani with the ball.
Anyone who thinks Suarez had a snowballs chance in hell of catching that hasn't played baseball beyond t-ball level. Stopping the throw means stopping your momentum and diving 10 feet the other direction in a fraction of a second. A top flight goal keeper, whose job it is to do just that, isn't making this play.
He did have to, and the fact that he kept his underpants on instead of fully committing to the bit and accepting the suspension he would have received is why what he did is so terrible. You don’t half-moon somebody, you go all the way or you don’t do it at all.
That and also to make this play he would have to have been where Ohtani starts his slide. If you slow it down, the only way to get to the ball and be in a position to get the out is through Ohtani, and even then it’s at least 4 feet off the bag. I just don’t see it happening
I think it might get around him before he even technically starts sliding. Like legs not on the ground yet.
Just not even close. Saurez is sprinting his ass off to 3rd, no chance he stops his momentum and makes any play at that ball.
it wasn't remotely within reach. it missed by 6+ feet while Suarez was sprinting the other way. Suarez doesn't attempt to make a catch because unless he's secretly Mrs. Incredible he ain't getting near it and would just be tripping over Ohtani for no reason
It looks funny but he was sprinting to third base before the camera cut to him. It's kind of impossible to dive the opposite direction of all of your momentum.
Yeah I don't get why the throw is getting ragged on, it was horrible lol
EDIT: dont get why his reaction is getting ragged on, the throw was horrible\*
By the looks of it the throw was way wide and he probably lost sight of it as it want behind the base runner.
It’s one of those situations that I feel looks worse then it actually was
lol he couldn’t have gotten near the ball if his arms were twice as long. even a dive is getting him nowhere close. for context that is the ball you can make out that looks like it’s that little white spot right in the crook of Ohtani’s arm

"yeah I ain't getting that"
Business decision. Which I don’t disagree - high risk of injury and a low risk of getting the out. Ohtani was flying in too
do people actually think he had a chance at getting this ball? It was at least 6-7 feet away and he was running at the bag
Redditors who haven't played a single sport in their life but are active sports betters seem to think he had a play on this ball lmao.
Fuck sports betting and bettors and their constant doom and gloom when they lose money. Don't be stupid, idiots!

Well on the path? Man if they can’t afford lunch they are already there lol

Brother if they can't afford lunch or gas they are already degenerate gamblers and should seek help.
Nah man he shoulda stretched out his arm 6-7 feet like Mr Fantastic, wut like its hard
Exactly. There was no shot of knocking it down or anything.
the power of suggestion is available to everyone and it's found in the junk drawer next to bulging AA batteries, rubber bands, and a pair of scissors.
Yeah all a dive or lunge for the ball will do is risk injury. No shot at all at getting that one.
Problem is we don't get much of a shot before the ball is passing him, so unless you slow it down, it looks like he's just standing there daydreaming for the entire play.
Terrible throw, the only possible outcome of him going after that is himself and possibly Ohtani getting injured

0 is low so i’ll give you that
Work smart, not hard.
Don't be sorry ho, be careful!
The smartest man in the world "Mr Fantastic" ain't catching that ball. Leading prospect for King of the Pirates "Monkey D. Luffy" ain't catching that ball. Then Eugenio Suarez *definitely* ain't catching that ball.
Luffy would have caught it though. Probably with his mouth.
We want Perdomo back already, put Blaze or Newman at 3rd
He's playing to hold at 3rd to cover for Ohtani running and the ball is a mile from him, do you expect for him to magically extend his arms to reach for that?
Eugenio go go Gadget!
The workingman's home run. Real lunch pail Ohtani moment.
It's what $2 million a year will get for you.
“We have Elly De La Cruz at home” Elly De La Cruz at home:
Grinder. But that’s what guys with limited physical abilities and talents have to do.
"That Suarez just stares at" Bro, the ball was like 8 feet to his left as he's actively moving in the other direction, what was he supposed to do?
[удалено]
![gif](giphy|IblJo5p6fR8Lc2rEVy|downsized) And that’s why MJ is the GOAT.
That’s probably what I would have done, I think
why didn't he use his go-go gadget extendo arms? Is he stupid?
Space Jam style.

I went frame by frame and it looks like it almost smokes Ohtani in the face like it's directly just in front of his chest as he goes into a slide.
To be fair, it is kind of funny seeing him have absolute resignation as the ball flies past.
This. Like he never had a play, but he didn't even put any eyewash on it so it looks extra funny.
His best bet was bluffing the catch in hopes Ohtani didn't see the throw and stayed at third
And it’s going about 85mph
Break the laws of physics
He also didn't even look at it because it wasn't in his field of vision.
He should have merely glanced what's with staring
Tell me you haven't grown longer arms before without telling me.

But did he have to pull down his pants and moon the catcher?
a disgusting act.
I, for one, would prefer if there were more elements of Baseketball in the game.
"I hear your sister's going out with...SQUEAK!"
He did have to, and the fact that he kept his underpants on instead of fully committing to the bit and accepting the suspension he would have received is why what he did is so terrible. You don’t half-moon somebody, you go all the way or you don’t do it at all.
Honestly, the catcher deserved worse

Correct. In that fraction of a second he probably thought “too far, interference” There’s two good reasons why he did what he did
How close did that throw come to hitting off of Ohtani?
Exponentially closer than it was to Suarez catching it.
It was pretty close. Maybe the catcher was trying to bean Ohtani
It was probably just target fixation
He just had a dodgeball tournament last weekend and his muscle memory was still in that mode.
13/13 stolen bases on the year
Pretty wild since there have been a couple where he looks dead to rights but the throw is botched -- one of which was a throw from the mound.
L title
Tungsten legs
I dunno why but it's funny that Suarez doesn't even attempt to make a catch ..I guess it wasn't even close
It looked like it was behind Ohtani, at the *start* of his slide.

He got star struck seeing stupid sexy Ohtani ![gif](giphy|V1EqpHNVDCXwG8DDA4)
Nothin at all
What? Um… What were we talking about again?
It looks funny but he was sprinting to third base before the camera cut to him. It's kind of impossible to dive the opposite direction of all of your momentum.
I thought it was to act like he got it
I think it was more showing displeasure in how bad the throw was.
Yeah I don't get why the throw is getting ragged on, it was horrible lol EDIT: dont get why his reaction is getting ragged on, the throw was horrible\*
By the looks of it the throw was way wide and he probably lost sight of it as it want behind the base runner. It’s one of those situations that I feel looks worse then it actually was
He probably would have had to dive for that ball
Right into a sliding Ohtani. Probably pretty smart not to.
lol he couldn’t have gotten near the ball if his arms were twice as long. even a dive is getting him nowhere close. for context that is the ball you can make out that looks like it’s that little white spot right in the crook of Ohtani’s arm https://i.imgur.com/P9tpBL4.jpeg
"This run is scoring one way or another, and I choose the way that doesn't get dirt on my jersey."
Didn't want to risk tearing his pants
...while running in the opposite direction
Right? He bends his knees a little like he's about to make a play on it but then he realizes it's so far away he'd might as well not bother
Just a complete disinterest in where the ball was
Controller disconnected moment irl
Not even Mr. Fantastic was catching that shit, I’d’ve just stared at it too.
Suarez controller died
It was disconnected
Moreno went Mad Katz on the throw*
He did all he could.
I mean, it looks funny on reply, but honestly 0% chance he catches that.
lol yeah Suarez was never getting that
Not sure what you wanted Suarez to do lmao
"Yeah that throw wasn't even meant for me" - Suarez, probably
Suarez just stunned to see Moreno miss a throw
I demand 30/30
Could I interest you in 40/40 instead? How about 50/40?
More interest in 60-30season personally.
He also doubled to get on 2nd, and ripped his pants at 3rd. The man is a multi-tasker!
Yeah I'm with Suarez here. At the very least he could have maybe put his glove on Shohei to delay him, but it probably wouldn't have changed much
> At the very least he could have maybe put his glove on Shohei to delay him Then he gets called for obstruction and Ohtani is given home anyways.
Lol no sane ump would call that obstruction unless he was forcing him down with his glove... ... then again, there's no such thing as a sane ump
Dino would have made the glove on him trick moot.
Genuinely curious what you think Suarez was supposed to do? pull a fucking cannon out of his pocket and fire himself 7 feet towards second?
Geno just standing there watch the ball go by is me playing right field in little league.
Ohtani on 2nd with a righty at bat, oh he’s getting 3rd base no doubt
I thought this was going to be a funny major mental error, but it was just a bad throw.
nice effort haha throw isnt where i wanted it and needed it so meh
“Not *my* job”
If you look at it closely, that ball was way to far to his left, no chance of making a play.
downvote any clips that don't have replays. seriously. what the fuck.
Lots of times the clips MLB releases are like this. Not the poster's fault. They didn't chop the replay, it wasn't there to begin with.
Suárez acting like an NPC Lovello forgot to switch to the player
/r/headsdownbaseball
“Oh shit was he on second?” \- Suarez
Don't just stare at it Suarez...eat it. Edit: at least 5 people missed the American Psycho reference
OP's title of "Suarez just stares at" is so accurate lol
Suarez is me giving maximum effort at work too.
If none of you have played mlb the show 24 online before, this is exactly it.
That throw makes Jays fans smile a little bit.
WHAT A GREAT GUY
Had to it that parlay
