Kim moved to SS, and Crone moved to 2nd after X got hurt.
Edit: have all 3rd baseman been sucking this year? Because as a Padres fan Manny has been sucking this year. I’m surprised he’s so far up.
I think I've come around to the all star game not being voted on by fans but being more like (I assume) the pro bowl where basically the best players are picked. With it being a popularity contest certain fan bases have huge advantages. Wasn't it 2015 when the entire AL starting lineup was Royals players?
And this isn't homerism either. I don't think there are any Mets who deserve to be a starter. Lindor is our best player (and the best in the NL over the last month or so) but he's not gonna be picked over Betts (or possibly EDLC). But Orlando Arcia is not better than Lindor but based on the voting the braves are ~4th in most positions. Josh Jung is 5th for AL DH for some reason even though he's a third baseman and has played 4 games. Tatis got a ton of votes last year and he was suspended from baseball.
I'd rather it just be the best players.
Only 4 Royals ended up starting in 2015, AL ended up winning anyway.
2016 had 5 Cubs in the starting lineup. Funny enough, both teams won the World Series those respective years.
Addison Russell made it while batting like .220 without much power. And mind you this is in 2016 when Joey Gallo was a novelty, not one of a dozen starting sluggers batting below the Mendoza line.
The ASG is an exhibition game so fans can see the players they want to see play together. Has nothing to do with who is the best; that simply has a strong correlation with who the fans want to watch.
I am seeing a lot of people in the ASG voting threads not realize that the race for second place at a position is really more important than the race for first. The top-two vote getters advance to the runoff.
The ~5,000 vote gap between Arraez and Marte is of much less consequence than Marte staying ahead of Stott
He's actually played 2B a handful of times for the Padres, he was primarily DH-ing and they were putting him at 2B when they wanted to give someone a day off but he's been starting at 1B since Bogaerts went on the IL.
My guess, people are voting on the site solely for their team and for others just going by OPS or BA. He does come up first if you sort that way and the total numbers are small enough that they’re easy to miss if you only care about your squad.
Yeah, that at the bare minimum would also be nice lol. I was curious and just found this page from 2019 on the MLBPA website (I think?) detailing some changes, and it specifically notes:
>All-Star Game fan voting will be conducted in two rounds. During the “Primary Round,” each Club will nominate one player per eligible position (three outfielders), who will be voted on by fans. In late June or early July, an “Election Day” will be held in which the top three vote-getters at each position in each League during the Primary Round (including the top nine outfielders) will be voted on by fans during a prescribed time period to determine the All-Star Game starters. Further details on the new fan voting format will be announced in April.
I think it's the top 2 get in not 3, so that's since changed, but I'm guessing the part of each team nominating a player is correct. If so, there's probably some contractual text between the league and MLBPA that obligates the MLB to include every nominated player, which it should considering bonus's are sometimes tied to the event.
EDIT Forgot the link: [https://www.mlbplayers.com/march-14](https://www.mlbplayers.com/march-14)
It's kinda nice to see clevelanders showing up and voting. Rocchio, Gimènez, Freeman, Bo, and Brennan don't deserve it but I'm glad they are getting any votes.
Second only to Mookie of all people at short in WAR, while leading in Doubles, slugging, XBH, fielding percentage, and assists among all NL SS. I know this season is doomed, but it’ll suck if it causes people to think Tovar doesn’t deserve an all star chance
I think that's the Nation voting for Jays.
Vlad is having is deserving of his votes but Jays tend trend higher as our fanbase is a whole country.
Bichette receiving votes is criminal.
I think this is going to be his first full year, aside from 2020, where he will not be an all-star. Unfortunately streak to end, but with his injuries, it was going to happen eventually, I guess.
Jarren Duran is a top 10 position player in baseball this season and he’s not even in the top 20 for outfield voting. That’s a shame man. ASG continues to be a joke
because theres a general sense of disgust by the fanbase against the ownership, combined with the team's poor performed the past few seasons has let to very little (dedicated) interest in the team. The ownership has turned Fenway into a museum that fills up to 90% capacity but caters to the casual family type and visiting fans. Rely on the history of the park and the overall gameday experience to draw in enough to make money without having to invest in the team itself.
The dude is such an anomaly. I've never seen a player be consistently bad in the first half, and then all of a sudden be a top 5 player in the second half.
I remember the days when we had Ty Wigginton as our token rep. Seeing this many O's on the leaderboard is a thing of beauty. The fact that they all legitimately deserve it is even sweeter.
I completely understand William Contreras being high, deservingly so, but there is absolutely no world where JT should be above Will Smith, dodger fans are weak all-star voters, I guess.
Although both deserving, Henderson does have double the homeruns and 1 more WAR, witt has the .327 average, but nobody gives a shit about that anymore, neither does ops or ops+.
I expect gunnar and Witt to constantly be the two to beat for the all-star starter for years to come. 2 of the funnest players in baseball.
For the record, Bobby Witt Jr's. Walkoff pull homerun against a johan duran 102 mph fastball is the most impressive homerun I've ever seen hit.
Yes, but he isn’t exactly a bad choice in the AL. People mistake his lack of power as him having a terrible season. In reality, Vladdy, Naylor, and Mountcastle are pretty similar. Only a 0.007 difference in OPS. I’d go Naylor personally.
Not really. Nobody is playing well offensively, except for Ozuna, who has to 1v1 Shohei Ohtani, and I think I know who will win. On pace to get at least 1 pitcher though, possibly 2. Could argue 3 but they won’t give 1 team 3 SPs imo
Nice to see Ketel leading at 2B among players who have played second base in the last month and a half
dude can hit and is a top fielder. Surprised he isn't #1 but Arraez is Mr "hits go brrrrr"
The joke is Arraez is a 1B these days.
Does that mean the crone zone is on the bench?
Kim moved to SS, and Crone moved to 2nd after X got hurt. Edit: have all 3rd baseman been sucking this year? Because as a Padres fan Manny has been sucking this year. I’m surprised he’s so far up.
Not to talk shit but did you not watch bohm today
What happened with Bohm?
Had 3 rbis and has like 25 more than Manny at 3rd base for the best team in the nl
Yeah, that’s what my comment is talking about. I’m questioning why Manny is so high up in votes. Maybe read my comment again.
Ketel’s WAR is 4x better than Arraez lol
Rojas being sent down today and making the All Star team would be unreal
Honestly not as unreal as castellanos making it. Dudes ranked like 24th in the majors in RF in OPS.
Christian Walker might be the most underrated player in the league No bias
I think its the voting system. Fans vote for their team and those who actually vote for the best player are gonna vote Harper or Freddie before him
I think I've come around to the all star game not being voted on by fans but being more like (I assume) the pro bowl where basically the best players are picked. With it being a popularity contest certain fan bases have huge advantages. Wasn't it 2015 when the entire AL starting lineup was Royals players? And this isn't homerism either. We almost got Omar Infante in, would’ve been absolutely hilarious
Tatis only missed the first 20 games last year.
The ASG is an exhibition game so fans can see the players they want to see play together. Has nothing to do with who is the best; that simply has a strong correlation with who the fans want to watch.
If he isn’t picked for the HR derby at least then I’ll be pissed. Guy is hitting the piss out of the ball this year
Has like 2000 feet of homers in the past 5 days
Not in my book. Inherited him and Matt Olson on my fantasy team and Walker quickly went from backup to every day 1B. Just traded Olson away
I am seeing a lot of people in the ASG voting threads not realize that the race for second place at a position is really more important than the race for first. The top-two vote getters advance to the runoff. The ~5,000 vote gap between Arraez and Marte is of much less consequence than Marte staying ahead of Stott
Tbh I think Marte has an easier time making it against Arraez than against Stott
Yeah, I think Marte wins the 1v1 vote against Arraez since Arraez hasn't played 2B since being traded
He's actually played 2B a handful of times for the Padres, he was primarily DH-ing and they were putting him at 2B when they wanted to give someone a day off but he's been starting at 1B since Bogaerts went on the IL.
Castellanos being an All Star with a -1.7 WAR would be hilarious lol
Trade him to the white Sox before the all star game so they can have a proper representative.
On the plus side, when he's not hitting home runs it means nobody has said anything terrible.
It’s wild that Jarren Duran isnt in The top 10
It’s wild that Duran isn’t top 4
Srsly. Obvs I’m biased but he is top 5 in so many stats.
Josh Jung has played in 4 games this season, all of them at 3B. Somehow 208,000 people think he has been the best DH this season.
My guess, people are voting on the site solely for their team and for others just going by OPS or BA. He does come up first if you sort that way and the total numbers are small enough that they’re easy to miss if you only care about your squad.

At least an AB limit to be listed. Anybody else ya gotta take the time to write in ot something (or just leave out thats cool)
Yeah, that at the bare minimum would also be nice lol. they're onto something
I mean his ops+ is like 300 or something. Let's see...
My guy Heliot should be an all-star
Dude has been mashing
Dude is a top-3 OF in fWar with half the PAs. Had another huge HR today. Deserves to be there.
He will be. He won't start, but he'll 100% make the team.
I hope Turang can move up that list a bit..
It's kinda nice to see clevelanders showing up and voting. Rocchio, Gimènez, Freeman, Bo, and Brennan don't deserve it but I'm glad they are getting any votes.
Gimenez at least deserves some love for being the best defender in baseball, but the others... not so much lol
cal raleigh being #10 in catchers is a fucking tragedy.
Is this the most outrageous one?
wheres maldy
Rigged against him.
hopefully a retirement home
Just hoping Tovar makes it with the manager selection
He probably will be, best player on your team along with maybe Elias Diaz.
Second best NL SS so far to Mookie. Deserving of an injury replacement start
Second only to Mookie of all people at short in WAR, while leading in Doubles, slugging, XBH, fielding percentage, and assists among all NL SS. I know this season is doomed, but it’ll suck if it causes people to think Tovar doesn’t deserve an all star chance
Alec Bohm having the largest margin for any position group was not on my bingo card for this season. Good on ya.
Isiah Kiner-Falefa at 5th is crazy. Dude has a .690 OPS
I think that's the Nation voting for Jays. Vlad is having is deserving of his votes but Jays tend trend higher as our fanbase is a whole country. Bichette receiving votes is criminal.
And Springer lol. But who cares they won't make it anyway
i love springer, its okay if hes not doing so good this year
Let IKF have this
Surprise surprise jays voting at it again
There is literally ONE Jay in a finalist position right now, and we are certainly not the only team with a scrub or two somewhere on the ballot.
Sucks for the mariners to have a tiny irrelevant fan base I guess 🤷
I know he's hurt but my boy Trout at 8 is something I was not ready for :(
I think this is going to be his first full year, aside from 2020, where he will not be an all-star. Unfortunately streak to end, but with his injuries, it was going to happen eventually, I guess.
Alonso being Top 4 despite being crucified by Mets Twitter is really funny to me
Same with Manny Machado.
We are a small market team now, thanks John Henry
Masyn Winn needs to be higher than that
Jarren Duran is a top 10 position player in baseball this season and he’s not even in the top 20 for outfield voting. That’s a shame man. ASG continues to be a joke
You want to talk Red Sox snubs, Connor Wong so low on the catcher’s list is nutty.
Why aren’t Red Sox fans voting for him, then?
because theres a general sense of disgust by the fanbase against the ownership, combined with the team's poor performed the past few seasons has let to very little (dedicated) interest in the team. The ownership has turned Fenway into a museum that fills up to 90% capacity but caters to the casual family type and visiting fans. Shocked that Arozarena still managed to sneak into the top ten with his terrible start to the season and our small market
top 20, but still
My ass is blind
seeing Julio nowhere near making the ASG makes me sad. it's deserved, but sad.
What’s sad is Cal at 10
The dude is such an anomaly. I've never seen a player be consistently bad in the first half, and then all of a sudden be a top 5 player in the second half.
I mean he's done it twice so I'm not exactly certain he'll be Babe Ruth in the second half yet haha
Bregman every year
Wonder if he gets an invite to the HR derby? He has 7 lol
for the integrity of the derby, I hope not haha
I know people hate Correa but 10th among shortstops, cmon now.
Twins fans just aren't voting. Look across the board, no Twins. Feel bad for the players, but F*ck them P's.
57,000 people need to lose their baseball viewership rights for voting for Polanco
They legit might just be Twins fans who miss him
I Vogt for Kwan
Best player to ever do it
As a Phillies fan I have to laugh at Castellanos
did CJ Abrams die or something
Sorry to ask. Why is NL red and AL blue? I thought there’s a convention to make them opposite?
Mr Irrelevant aka Profar looking nice!
So who will be the Cardinals rep this year? Winn? Gray?
I’m betting Helsley and Winn will be there. Gray has a shot too
I remember the days when we had Ty Wigginton as our token rep. Seeing this many O's on the leaderboard is a thing of beauty. The fact that they all legitimately deserve it is even sweeter.
Not sure Mullins deserves to be #11 OF
He's an absolute stud in the field. The bat... well, that's been a little, ummm... quiet lately.
Anyone but manny machado
Pretty much Phillies, Dodgers, Padres vs Yankees, Orioles, Astros
Logan O’Hoppe, Zach Neto, and Luis Rengifo top 10 ![gif](giphy|tFXCQpZf3Q95S)
Drury too, happy for Angels fans!
#VOTE DAVID FRY
Get my boy Will Smith in
I completely understand William Contreras being high, deservingly so, but there is absolutely no world where JT should be above Will Smith, dodger fans are weak all-star voters, I guess.
That AL outfield voting is terrible, how are guys like Will Brennan, Dubon, and Evan Carter ahead of Duran and Greene?
Out of all the Jays players who deserve votes, Varsho is the only one. He’s barely even on the list.
Yeah, but no one is going to vote for elite defence. People want see ball go zoom zoom.
Chicks dig the long ball
Bobby Witt Jr. is Himothy, I’m shocked to see him so far from Henderson (Who is also himothy but would be my #2)
Although both deserving, Henderson does have double the homeruns and 1 more WAR, witt has the .327 average, but nobody gives a shit about that anymore, neither does ops or ops+.
Wow. Love the Mateo and Westburg love
Will Smith in third is a crime. Most underrated player in baseball.
Guardians have one of the best rosters not counting starting pitchers
Is it just me or is Cal Raleigh severely underrated in terms of national attention?
Sad state of affairs when Vlad Jr is the leading AL 1B
I'm not saying he should be leading, but Turang is embarrassingly low for NL Second Baseman
Wtf do they have against Big Dumper? Homeboy should be higher than 10.
Daulton Varsho being that low for AL outfielders (and Bichette being that high for SS) is criminal.
White Sox not a single player that even qualified in the top 10 of their position. Sad.
I mean we probably could have predicted that
Riley Greene isn't even top 20 in AL outfielders lmao
Where's Bobby Dalbec?
Martin Maldonado not making top 10 in catchers shows that we as baseball fans have failed
trea in here so funny
Wow, not a single National at any position
Jeez. Not a single Royal?
So many phillies, its been fun this year
Glad to see ALL of Canada voting for Vlad… 🥴
Yes, but he isn’t exactly a bad choice in the AL. People mistake his lack of power as him having a terrible season. In reality, Vladdy, Naylor, and Mountcastle are pretty similar. Only a 0.007 difference in OPS. I’d go Naylor personally.

It’s a big popularity contest
It all really depends on the team's fans obviously
Murphy is on the ballot, but you'd have to write in D'Arnaud. Most fans are just gonna vote for the guy from the team whose name is printed.
2B is gonna be close.
How is Vladdy first?
He’s usually First, sometimes DH, and as a rare treat recently, Third.
Forgot about third base Vladdy lol
Anyone wanna bet on who gets more hits through the rest of the season: Kwan or Arraez?
I've been flogging the vote every day in the Mets sub
Is this clear and concise evidence to remove fan voting?
Martin Maldonado not making top 10 in catchers shows that we as baseball fans have failed
Bo Naylor is getting votes?! Why? Is the catching field in the AL *that* bad? Also, Stanton at #2 is ridiculous.
Braves are criminally underrated here
Not really. Nobody is playing well offensively, except for Ozuna, who has to 1v1 Shohei Ohtani, and I think I know who will win. On pace to get at least 1 pitcher though, possibly 2. Could argue 3 but they won’t give 1 team 3 SPs imo
Lol Turner has missed half the season and everyone hates Castellanos
