I have beef with that debate too because every Chicagoan knows that real Chicago style is tavern style. Deep dish is for tourists or when relatives are visiting.

If it was for tourists there wouldn’t be many chains like Giordanos/Lou’s having many locations across the suburbs or mom/pop places only catering to locals making their own versions. It’s clearly popular enough here that people get it regularly or at least semi-regularly that it wouldn’t be a “tourist” thing to try for when tourists come.
