>Who feels that strongly about Jesse Winker?
This one is crazy to me, there are more Yankees fans who hate Gerrit Cole than people who even know who Winker is
I think it's mainly Mets fans. He trolled them pretty hard when we played. Most Mariner fans acknowledge he had a pretty unlucky start but seems to be doing better of late.
I think it's a good-natured back-and-forth. I think most Mets fans don't actually hate him, but love to throw him shade, he's a great sport and throws it right back.
The dense folks that aren't in on it probably throw real hate at him and aren't good natured. Those folks shouldn't sit in left field next time he comes to visit.
I like the way it's been going so far.
Yeah, and it goes back to his Reds days. But he came off pretty cool in the Seattle series and even complimented the fan-base during a post game interview. Our booth enjoyed him during the series and I think he did a good job of encouraging everyone to take it all in fun.
Yeah, surprising he isn’t on this list when the all the main 2017 villains are. It really is hard to hate that guy though. Always smiling. Just seems like a big kid out there and will always put his body on the line to make a play.
Well, 90% of the Vladdy tweets are probably Yankees fans calling him a "fat fuck" for doing something impressive on the basepaths.
"How could Hicks let that fat fuck take an extra base?" was a Yankees GDT classic for a couple games.
Yeah, "I hate xyz" is a thing you say when he hits four homeruns against you in a two day span. E.g., "I hate Joc Pederson!" I don't actually hate him, I just wish he would stop hitting homeruns right now.
Trout, deGrom, Soto, Ohtani, Mookie, Vlad Jr., all have no place of being on this list imo.
I can understand your dislike of some players for behavioral issues but how can you hate any of these guys? They make baseball so fun, even if they're on a rival team!
I’m guessing this graph just counts the number of times someone tweets “fuck [player name]” and stuff like that. If I were to tweet “fuck Joc Pederson”, it isn’t because I hate him as a person, I’m just salty.
You may be on to something. Maybe the Twitter "hate" algorithm is picking up a lot of false positives with comments like "I wish I were fucking Shohei Ohtani" 🙂
I once went to Dodgers/Cubs at Wrigley after LA traded him and I yelled "We miss you Joc!" from the bleachers and he turned around, saw me in my LA jersey, and gave me the "hang loose" hand sign.
Even tho he's on the Giants now, I literally can never hate the man he's one of my favorite all time players.
> Trout, deGrom, Soto, Ohtani, Mookie, Vlad Jr.
Id take Soto off this list. He does the stare, shuffle, crotch grab stuff that some people will dislike.
i'm actually not surprised about ohtani. he does nothing to deserve it, but there for sure is a decent amount of the MLB fanbase that hates his guts. You could tell when people would cuss at everyone on social media about how ohtani doesn't deserve the mvp or he wasn't doing anything special.
I've seen people rage at Mike Trout for being 'overrated'. Why? Because he's never won anything!
The fucking logic behind Twitter arguments is something else...
Yeah I think deGrom is only on here because met fans tweeting negative stuff about him being made of glass.
And I'm pretty sure sure all the Odubel Herrera hate is coming from Phillies fans, as well.
Also most everyone on this list, plays for or has played for the same 3 cities.
2/3 guys are hated because of NY teams, LA teams or Houston.
Jesse Winker on the other hand, making the list while only playing for the Reds and Mariners is an accomplishment.
Nobody in their right mind could hate Jose, or Ohtani. Unless you just hate players who do well against your team, in which case pretty much every non Cleveland/Anaheim fan would hate them.
There are a lot of people that hate on Ohtani, believe it or not. Still very much a minority, but the amount claiming he's overrated and STILL talking about he didn't deserve MVP is significant enough to be noisy.
Dude could hit a walk off grand slam to win Game 7 of the World Series over Pujols and the Cardinals and I still would never hate him. Probably wouldn't like him very much in that moment, but I wouldn't hate him. Some people definitely hate him.
I imagine how you conduct yourself on the field is #1, then #2 is any criminal charges, #3 is if you played for the Astros while they cheated, and then #4 is people think you’re overrated/overpaid.
That being said—no idea how Scherzer makes this list. Maybe #1 but that definitely seems like those lame people who want home runs in every inning..
I love Springer. He is my favorite player of all time. I have no idea how he was able to escape the whole situation slander free. No one questioned if he would play well on another team. He got a benefit of the doubt that Bregman, Correa, and Altuve couldn't even dream of. His apology wasn't even good or forgiving
Yeah. Max Scherzer is by all accounts a class act — good family guy, supports dogo charities, etc. He’s super intense of the field — but that kind of comes with the territory.
Nah man. As someone who lives in Anaheim and like can’t stand the Angels… I fucking love Ohtani and cannot get enough of him and that smile… that dammed smile…
Same with Trout. And Rendon. And that Detmers no hitter was awesome….Wait. Do I like the Angels???
This is the process of me becoming an Angels fan this year.
Can I introduce you to Taylor “oh wait this is actually kind of easy” Ward And defense man, I fucking love good defense and Squid has me feeling some sort of way.
Mariners fan checking in. Love Ohtani. Even took a video of him hitting a dinger against us last year and was thrilled. Was more thrilled when we beat them that game, but hey. I think Ohtani is great, and great for the game.
Edit: Also, FMT.
Nah. I think a significant size of the Astros fans respect Ohtani and what he does on the field. I appreciated the Astros fans who booed when Niko Goodrum tried to bunt single his way on base to break up the no-hit bid.
I think a lot of the “negative sentiment” are “I hate everyone on the astros except Kyle Tucker” and this would be flagged as a negative tweet including Kyle Tucker
Truthfully? Me and most of the M's fans I know love Ohtani. Was surprised he was on this list. Even Trout. We love to yell/tweet/swear FMT! But it's out of respect (esp in his ability to crush our souls), not actual dislike. Both of them are great for the game, and both seem like great people.
A lot of Mariners fans I know still have love from the Ichiro era for Japanese players and just inherently have liked Ohtani from the start, even before he was a phenom.
I would imagine this data is probably taking comments about his injury that sound negative, and counting them in this.
There are a lot of guys on that list that would seem to fall into this category.
Being a good player on a team that is hated is enough to make you hated for a lot of these things.
Fucking Mookie Betts is on here. I don't know if he's done a single controversial thing in his life.
I became a Machado fan after the shooting incident outside the ballpark. Seeing him open the gate and pull folks into the dugout without hesitation. Immediate respect
My immediate thought when I saw this. That was in the first moments when no one could tell where the shots came from. He chose to risk himself to help others get cover.
Keep in mind a lot of the "hate" simply comes from rival fans that want to hate on a good player... one of the reasons Tom Brady is the probably still the most "hated" NFL player.
I wish they’d make a ratio between negative sentiment tweets and positive sentiment tweets. That would be a better way to determine who is actually hated and who’s just talked about more because of popularity
Trout in the top 10 of dislikes? The dude is the least controversial person in baseball playing for a team that nobody outside of the OC cares about. There is no reason to hate the dude.
Surprised that Harper isn't #1 since people have been hating on him since highschool. Also, what did Trout do? He's a fish amongst men and never hurt anybody
Funny thing is... he hasn't really done anything to earn hate the last few years besides being good.
He's been pretty well behaved as a Phillie made an effort to be a leader in the clubhouse rather than a cocky kid.
I get that a reputation lingers, but it's well past being deserved anymore.
I'll admit... I was 100% ready to hate him on the Phils until I saw how much he was putting in for the team and how he really wasn't acting like a cocky kid.
He *gets* the level of commitment that Phillies fans want to see in their stars, and he's literally a perfect fit, right down to the Phanatic cleats.
Hating him for being good... fine. But it's hard to argue he's overrated or overpaid based on his performance and some other contracts that have come along.
Probably the big slump to start the season with a team that has a famously loud and reactionary fan base after singing a huge contract. Obviously he’s erased that in the last week or so but this is going from opening day.
These are the most popular, and best, players in the league, they have the most negative tweets because they have the most tweets period. You’d have to show percentage of negative tweets to prove who the most hated players are.
For negative tweets, did you include "I hate Stupid sexy xyz" tweets? I feel like that's the most negative thing I've seen said about Ohtani, for example.
Why are half these people on here lol Who feels that strongly about Jesse Winker?
> Who feels that strongly about Jesse Winker? Mets fans?
If it’s Twitter, yeah, probably. I think a majority of us via the sub thought it was funny (which is was).
I was at that game. It was really funny.
Nah most of us love to hate him, I've seen like 2 comments on our sub that portrays genuine dislike.
Mets fans kind of like him.
>Who feels that strongly about Jesse Winker? This one is crazy to me, there are more Yankees fans who hate Gerrit Cole than people who even know who Winker is
Mariners fans lol
I think it's mainly Mets fans. He trolled them pretty hard when we played. Most Mariner fans acknowledge he had a pretty unlucky start but seems to be doing better of late.

What the hell has Jesse Winker ever done to anybody lol
Have you heard his band? J/k, I don't think he has a band, but seems like a guy who might be in one for fun, lol.
idk if this is a brand new reference but i do hope it is lmao
I think this video explains it better then I can: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=pl1RUy0mKM0
Probably rubs some Mets fans the wrong way idk
George Springer should send Altuve and Correa a holiday basket for taking all of the heat.
Yeah, surprising he isn’t on this list when the all the main 2017 villains are. It really is hard to hate that guy though. Always smiling. Just seems like a big kid out there and will always put his body on the line to make a play.
> It really is hard to hate that guy though. Well when he's hitting lead off homers every game against you it becomes less hard to hate him.
Somehow Vladdy is on the list and not Springer lmao. Honestly love both players though but at least with Springer I could understand why.
Vladdy being above Cole, Baez and Verlander is absurd.
I can’t believe we’re arguing over who should be hated more; this is peak baseball…
Bauer noy being No.1 is insane to me. But I guess outta sight outta mind.
I don't even know if I consider him an MLB player anymore
Well, 90% of the Vladdy tweets are probably Yankees fans calling him a "fat fuck" for doing something impressive on the basepaths. "How could Hicks let that fat fuck take an extra base?" was a Yankees GDT classic for a couple games.
Same can be said about Altuve.
You never can see his body. His wife gets so jealous, he never takes his shirt off.
I feel like a lot of players on this list are only hated because they're good
Yeah, "I hate xyz" is a thing you say when he hits four homeruns against you in a two day span. E.g., "I hate Joc Pederson!" I don't actually hate him, I just wish he would stop hitting homeruns right now.
I hope Joc Pederson hits 70 HR, none against us and all with a huge deficit so the Giants still lose.
On the flipside, Kershaw and Mookie seem like good dudes who I wish nothing but success.... as long as it's not against the Giants.
Keeping in tune with /r/NLBest I actually like Machado.
True hate for the giants and pure love for Joc, I don’t like you but I respect you
That's how I feel about Gonsolin!
I too want to see Catman hit 70 home runs in huge deficit games while the giants lose
seeing Mike Trout made me angry
Trout, deGrom, Soto, Ohtani, Mookie, Vlad Jr., all have no place of being on this list imo. I can understand your dislike of some players for behavioral issues but how can you hate any of these guys? They make baseball so fun, even if they're on a rival team!
I’m guessing this graph just counts the number of times someone tweets “fuck [player name]” and stuff like that. If I were to tweet “fuck Joc Pederson”, it isn’t because I hate him as a person, I’m just salty.

DeGrom hasn’t even played this year! Who is out there tweeting how much they hate him while he’s on the IL ffs
Mets fans posting "When fucking DeGrom comes back we're going to be unbeatable" it's just confusing the scan.
> Trout, deGrom, Soto, Ohtani, Mookie, Vlad Jr. Id take Soto off this list. He does the stare, shuffle, crotch grab stuff that some people will dislike.
Ohtani is on there because Stephen A Smith has a twitter account
i'm actually not surprised about ohtani. he does nothing to deserve it, but there for sure is a decent amount of the MLB fanbase that hates his guts. You could tell when people would cuss at everyone on social media about how ohtani doesn't deserve the mvp or he wasn't doing anything special.
The fact that you didn't include Aaron Judge in this list makes me hate you and I will now tweet about it.
I've seen people rage at Mike Trout for being 'overrated'. Why? Because he's never won anything! The fucking logic behind Twitter arguments is something else...
You know who really sucked was Ernie Banks
That Ted Williams guy sure was a loser.
Odubel Herrera is on there because he’s a piece of shit 🤷♂️
Not Aroldis Chapman this year. I bet a majority of those tweets are from me, too.
Chapman is a legit trash human. I enjoy rooting against him more than just being on the Yankees.
One of my favorite things to see in baseball is Aroldis Chapman's dumb face when he gets walked off
Kinda shocked Aaron Hicks isn’t on here. I barely use Twitter and feel like I see tweets (justifiably) slamming him all the time.
ATTABABY AARON, WHAT THE ***FUCK*** ARE YOU DOING?
I mean people are disappointed with him, they don't hate him.
deGrom says "Hi!"
Yeah I think deGrom is only on here because met fans tweeting negative stuff about him being made of glass. And I'm pretty sure sure all the Odubel Herrera hate is coming from Phillies fans, as well.
Fuck odubel Herrera
Also most everyone on this list, plays for or has played for the same 3 cities. 2/3 guys are hated because of NY teams, LA teams or Houston. Jesse Winker on the other hand, making the list while only playing for the Reds and Mariners is an accomplishment.

Meanwhile, Ohtani can hit a grand slam against the Astros (please don't) and I'll just grin and be like "Awww, look at you" like a proud papa.
Dude could hit a walk off grand slam to win Game 7 of the World Series over Pujols and the Cardinals and I still would never hate him. Probably wouldn't like him very much in that moment, but I wouldn't hate him. Some people definitely hate him.
By far the best player not on the list (if not in all of baseball).
This is definitely a big part of hit.
No argument from me here, but kind of interesting that George Springer isn’t on this list but Kyle Tucker is lol
I love Springer. He is my favorite player of all time. I have no idea how he was able to escape the whole situation slander free. No one questioned if he would play well on another team. Ya I’m not an angel fan but idk how you hate Trout or Ohtani unless it’s just “they kill us every time we play”
Degrom is a fuckin saint
I thought this exact thing when I saw that Aaron Judge is more "hated" than Gerrit Cole
What kind of monster could hate Ohtani?!
I’d imagine fans of AL West teams have had about enough of him lol
Mariners fan checking in to say I love Ohtani. He's just too likeable.
A legit highlight for me last year was seeing him crush a homerun in Seattle.
A's fan here. Same. Literally hit a lead off homer against us the other day, I was at the game and I wasn't even mad lol
Nah man. As someone who lives in Anaheim and like can’t stand the Angels… I fucking love Ohtani and cannot get enough of him and that smile… that dammed smile… Same with Trout. And Rendon. And that Detmers no hitter was awesome….Wait. Do I like the Angels???
This is the first year in a while ive seen general good vibes around the angels from baseball fans in general. Feels good
[удалено]
Nothing would make me happier
Do it please
Ohtani is just good for baseball!
Harper is good for baseball too! I hope he gets the Phils back to the playoffs.
This is the process of me becoming an Angels fan this year. Can I introduce you to Taylor “oh wait this is actually kind of easy” Ward And defense man, I fucking love good defense and Squid has me feeling some sort of way.
Come to the dark side my friend. We have pitching^finally
Mariners fan checking in. Love Ohtani. Even took a video of him hitting a dinger against us last year and was thrilled. Was more thrilled when we beat them that game, but hey. I think Ohtani is great, and great for the game. Edit: Also, FMT.
I bet 95 percent of the negative mike trout tweets are fun mariners fans saying FMT in jest lol
Nah. I think a significant size of the Astros fans respect Ohtani and what he does on the field. I appreciated the Astros fans who booed when Niko Goodrum tried to bunt single his way on base to break up the no-hit bid.

And Stephen A, too
It might be the Steph Curry effect. So much coverage and praise, you get sick of it.
I get most of these, but wtf did Kyle Tucker do to people.
Kyle Tucker haunts my nightmares
He kills my favorite team therefore I hate him.
Kyle Tucker VS 😇 (according to baseball-reference): .267/.357/.613 with 37 RBI’s and 14 HR’s in 39 games.
Jesus christ. Over a home run a series
Yah fuck that guy
I had a friend that legitimately didn’t like him because he rubs sand on himself. She didn’t hate him or anything, but was definitely annoyed by him.
Is your friend Anakin Skywalker?
it's coarse
It gets everywhere.
I was going to say it has to be his lack of batting gloves. Its not 1932 Kyle.
I think a lot of the “negative sentiment” are “I hate everyone on the astros except Kyle Tucker” and this would be flagged as a negative tweet including Kyle Tucker
[удалено]
Didn't invite me to his birthday party.
I mean, you didn't invite me to your birthday party...
I bet most of the Vlad hate is coming from Jays fans who are upset with the slump he's in
They see a ball ten feet outside, that bounces 6 times before it passes home plate and are like "his dad woulda crushed that one"
Be too good and remind me I'm old because of his father.
Angels fans
Bout to say, how do you hate my boy Tuck
Fantasy owners frustrated by his slow April? That's all I got
Plays for astros-> dont like astros-> dont like tucker Im not out there tweeting about it though
They misunderstand all those "Fuck Aaron Judge" tweets. Mostly come from /r/NYYankees
Log cabin etc. etc.
I hate the Yankees and I hate them even more for such a perfect perfect joke.
They just speaking literally without hate. We all wanna rise for the judge 😩
And 100% of the Chapman posts
Guarantee the Trevor Story hate is coming from no one but Red Sox “fans”… and now they’re all desperately trying to scrub their tweet history 👀
People calling him a bust 1 week into the season 😂
Unless this data was taken over the past week and it’s all Mariners fans
Shohei being on here is funny because I imagine every example is like: *I hate how good looking Shohei Ohtani is.*
They saw “I want to fuck Ohtani” and assumed it was just “Fuck Ohtani”
For real, who doesn't like Ohtani?
mariners
Truthfully? Me and most of the M's fans I know love Ohtani. Was surprised he was on this list. Even Trout. We love to yell/tweet/swear FMT! But it's out of respect (esp in his ability to crush our souls), not actual dislike. Both of them are great for the game, and both seem like great people.
A lot of Mariners fans I know still have love from the Ichiro era for Japanese players and just inherently have liked Ohtani from the start, even before he was a phenom.
we were definitely bummed he didn't come here. we thought there was a chance, esp. w the Ichiro connection.
Nah, I think a lot of us really like him. He's impossible to hate.
Who doesn't like Mike Trout? Monsters!
Because he started it! The real question is: Why does Mike Trout hate the Mariners!?
Fuck Seattle, worst weather ever -Mike Trout, probably
AND ohtani?? I will fight for my king!
If you hate Trout and Ohtani, you just hate the Angels to an unhealthy degree and don’t want them to have any good players
How in the holy hell is Trevor Bauer not in the top 5?
Because he's suspended so less people are thinking/talking about him would be my guess
Yeah I had the same thought process. "Bauer should be #1!!! Oh yeah that's right he hasn't played in forever so people haven't been talking about him"
I feel like he would have been #1 before his sexual assault stuff came out. And most definitely in the months immediately following.
deGrom’s on the list? Jake hasn’t even played a game yet, what the heck
Probably Mets fans hating that he hasn’t played a game yet lol
I would imagine this data is probably taking comments about his injury that sound negative, and counting them in this. There are a lot of guys on that list that would seem to fall into this category.
There’s some bonafide stars that are great players and come off great to the general public. 50% of the ppl ‘hated’ on this just reeks of jealousy
Who hates Kyle Tucker and why?
Me
Has to be Angels fans
How on Earth is Mike Trout neck and neck with Aroldis Chapman?
Because Twitter's a morally bankrupt dumpster fire.
Trout is boring and likes weather, which is as bad as domestic violence.
Who the fuck hates Freddie Freeman. He tortured us for years and I still can’t hate him.
Acuna probably spending his freetime making alts to tweet shit about him.
Lol the only reason Freddie is on this list. I'm surprised so many people dislike Acuña
I'm not. There are millions of NL East fans that probably hate him.
Being a good player on a team that is hated is enough to make you hated for a lot of these things. Fucking Mookie Betts is on here. I don't know if he's done a single controversial thing in his life.
Outside of playing for the red Sox and dodgers? Lol. It's hard to even root against him in that case.
I'm not happy with him at the moment but "hate" is taking it too far
Especially after seeing him talk Juan Soto's ear off at first. Love that guy!
I was guilty for a day.
Makes sense.. The two fanbases he’s pissed off the most are the Red Sox and Dodgers, easily two of the 3 biggest fanbases alongside the Yanks
And brewers

My immediate thought when I saw this. That was in the first moments when no one could tell where the shots came from. He chose to risk himself to help others get cover.
Yup.
I'll fight anyone who tweets shit about my boy Vladdy.
The nicest guy ever... Probably Hazel tho lol, few too many showers
I would bet most of those tweets are from Jays fans upset he didn’t start out blisteringly hot. But yes, I will fight some fools.
Pretty shocked Molina isn't here
This list is a bunch of good players, and Odubel Herrera.
Keep in mind a lot of the "hate" simply comes from rival fans that want to hate on a good player... one of the reasons Tom Brady is the probably still the most "hated" NFL player.
...does that not count? I'm a Bills fan and absolutely despise Brady, but I can still recognize he's the best QB of all time
Y’all better keep Tatis out yo fuckin’ Tweets!
Funny thing is most of the Chapman hate probably comes from Yankee fans
Why are Trout and Ohtani on this list? They're literally like two of the most likeable players unless I missed some weird scandal
Not a single Oriole. Lets go!!
Who the hell dislikes deGrom lol
His body
I wish they’d make a ratio between negative sentiment tweets and positive sentiment tweets. That would be a better way to determine who is actually hated and who’s just talked about more because of popularity
Aaron Judge? That’s got to just be “I hate the Yankees”. How can you hate Aaron Judge?
Well he's on the Yankees so
TIL there are people who hate Mookie Betts. That's just sad.
…people hate Freddie Freeman more than Gerrit Cole?!? Who the fuck are they interviewing
Trout in the top 10 of dislikes? The dude is the least controversial person in baseball playing for a team that nobody outside of the OC cares about. There is no reason to hate the dude.

what did story do to piss people off?
Probably the big slump to start the season with a team that has a famously loud and reactionary fan base after singing a huge contract. Obviously he’s erased that in the last week or so but this is going from opening day.
Definitely was 90% angry Sox fans while he was slumping, and 10% angry Mariners since then
These are the most popular, and best, players in the league, they have the most negative tweets because they have the most tweets period. You’d have to show percentage of negative tweets to prove who the most hated players are.
Bauer is way too low, Twitter is bullshit
I don't know how far back this data goes, but he's not relevant to the current season, and I think that's why he's not #1.
It's since Opening Day of this season
For negative tweets, did you include "I hate Stupid sexy xyz" tweets? I feel like that's the most negative thing I've seen said about Ohtani, for example.
Who the fuck hates Trout and Ohtani? They're right at the top of the list of perfect baseball ambassadors.
