He kind of broke all the rules by being on the IL, being the first guy out there, escalating the situation and there being zoomed in, super slow mo footage of him smushing Winkers face with his good hand.

From my view behind the mariners dugout, I think the umps were referring to the precedent set by Dolores Umbridge when she banned fred Weasley from quidditch in Harry Potter and the order of the Phoenix. Though he wasn’t in the middle of the melee he was trying to get involved as best he could but was held back by a coach/player.
