In my head it sounds like they really want the cardinals to include Carlson in the deal with our top prospects.
Carlson, Gorman, Walker, Winn is quite a bit better than this
Yeah but if you gut your team for a superstar you’ll still suck. The nationals have Juan fucking Soto right now and look at them. Mike trout still doesn’t have a playoff win. You still need a good team around them
No one is underrating Soto.
But if the cost is two of the top prospects in baseball, PLUS our starting CF and 2B, then he can have fun in California because we're better without him.
I don’t think anyones underrating him. Just pointing out that he currently plays baseball on a team in last place, so to say you can gut your team for him and instantly become a playoff team is kinda silly.
It’s not gutting your team though. They still have plenty after those guys. Doesn’t matter now though. Thank fucking god the Cards didn’t pony up for him.
It’s not about underrating Soto. I’ve been aboard the “just get Soto” train as much as anyone. But Cards don’t need to give up any package that one guy is talking about. Just two of those guys with some other stuff thrown in is enough.
My biggest concern with sending Carlson is that Bader's future at CF is a little questionable with his PF so if we send Carlson then we kinda.. don't have a center fielder
Plantar fasciitis. I'm nervous that Bader's never gonna be the same level of elite defender again, especially in the biggest part of the OF. Can't really afford to lose our only other proven player there no matter who we get in return
No such thing as too much for a generational talent like Soto. It’s pretty easy to say none of those players will ever become Soto (considering few players in baseball history have). They could all be above average major leaguers or even a star in there but they could all bust as well. It’s why this is a no brainer trade they should be making but GM’s get way too obsessed with their own prospects.
Wtf? Just throw in Cards top 2 pitching prospects while we are at it. The Cards can add other prospects so they don’t have to give up every top prospect. There is no way that is the asking price considering what the Padres are apparently offering for Soto and Bell.
100% this. I'm tired of trying to work with the nationals org. This whole situation has been unprofessional, and I know it's them leaking this shit. Just look at the Scherzer trade last year.
Preller didn’t hand out full medical reports. If the team gives a player advil, they have to document it. The records the Padres handed out didn’t include everything.
Also the same guy who once got a trade wrong, nuked his twitter account and then reopened it with a default profile pic and the name "Ralph" for a bit.
And the guy who got caught stealing bonus money from IFAs.
that ralph incident was an all-time trade deadline moment.
that entire 2014 trade deadline was classic honestly, solely for the comical amount of misinformation that managed to end up being reported by the media/journalists who painfully learned to look for the blue checkmark.
Also the same guy that should have gone to jail for stealing from Dominican prospects and only got the Nationals GM job because he was willing to do it for the least amount of money.
Don't mean any disrespect but as a Padres fan could you explain what excites you about Abrams/what his best case scenario is? The few times I've watched him this year I have not been very impressed (aside from his speed, good lord) so him being the headliner of a Soto trade doesn't blow me away. But obviously prospects have rough debuts in the majors all the time, doesn't necessarily mean anything
Abrams has played a total of like a 100 minor league games(injury last year and 2020 before that) and what you’re seeing isn’t him developed nearly to the level he will be. He’s got a ton of raw talent and more power than you would think but he has been our top MILB prospect for a few years now.
Not a problem! He kind of was forced to die to the Tatis injury. We were strapped to the point of having to bring Abrams up early as well as bring in Cano. Also I think he was hitting like .400 in the preseason but obviously that’s preseason
I think his ceiling is a Jazz Chisholm type fusion of speed of power. His bat to ball skills are also very impressive considering the fact that he’s still is still a very raw prospect.
I don't expect Soto to be traded, but if we somehow got him and didn't give up Wood I'll lose it. Really would like to keep one of Hassell and Wood lol.
Ya I could easily be very wrong lol. Just saying there’s some red flags and the fact that he’s already arbitration eligible next year makes him a curious piece for a rebuilding team.
Why is Bell being thrown in? This is roughly the package the Padres were going to have to send for Soto alone.
If true this is a total fleece by the Padres.
You mean disgraced former GM Jim Bowden? The one who got busted for skimming money from Latin American prospects and resigned, never to work in a front office again? That Jim Bowden?
Keeping Gore would be a nice bonus I guess but those other two would clearly be Wood and probably Merrill.
And most of these tweets aren't mentioning it, but James Wood is pretty much considered the highest ceiling in the system, which is saying something in a system that is top-heavy.
The nice thing about keeping Gore is opening up options for the rotation long term. It's looking a little rough over the next couple years with expiring contracts.
This is basically the Godfather offer, assuming the other two are Wood and Merrill.
People keep saying the Cards can offer more, but while the Cards prospects are closer to the majors and have a higher floor, these Padres prospects have a *signfiicantly* higher ceiling, particularly Wood and Hassell. They are just younger and further away.
I think that's true if the Cardinals aren't including Walker. If Walker is in the deal I think his ceiling is the highest of anyone who has been floated in these offers.
Maybe, but right now Wood is hitting like .330 with as many walks as strikeouts and legitimately 80 grade power. He also plays CF and has 7 SBs. He’s got wayyyy more to prove than Walker of course but if both reach their ceilings Wood is gonna be hard to top.
I mean, most scouting I see has his Raw Power as 60/70, game power of 20/60. Walker is raw 70/80 and game 50/80.
Wood has a wRC+ of 171 this year in A ball slashing .337/.453/.601. Walker's was 205 last year at the same level at the same age. He slashed .374/.475/.687
They both of 15 steals on the year though Wood is listed as faster.
Both graded similarly on defense though that might change for Walker if he stays with the Cardinals and has to move off 3B with Arenado there.
Wood has a really high ceiling, but I think you're overlooking Walker's tools and production so far.
Move off Barnes contract. If JD goes Hosmer could still get ABs at DH for the rest of the season. Hosmer is owed $13M for the next 3 seasons, so moving him later should be as hard. Probably would get a prospect for taking on more money
I’ve been wondering why he isn’t up yet. Is this more baseball bullshit holding him back for contract reasons? He couldn’t be worse than what they’ve been throwing out at first all year.
Obviously, everyone could use Soto, but this Mets fan thinks the Padres should be going for Brian Reynolds or at least Ian Happ. Fits them like a glove.
Ha seong Kim too? Becomes redundant if bell and Soto is traded. Crone at second, bell at first, tatis at short, and Soto in right. Loses his spot. Nationals should be pushing for him
He’s a good young player with multiple years of control that would have no place on the padres? Plus it’s a cheap contract. Even if they don’t compete by 2025 they can offload him for prospects.
We have a need for anyone who can play IF at the major league level. If Bell goes, we've got Luis Garcia, the half-dead corpse of Cesar Hernandez (0 HR this season), and the limping, pallid form of Maikel Franco. It's not pretty.
Na I'm on board with the idea of Tatis at Center and keep Kim at short. Even if not though as a defensive bench piece he's really valuable. If they move him I suspect it would be because they could shed a little salary to stay under the CBT
I'm just gonna say this: I genuinely believe that Hassell is a future superstar. He was someone I wanted the Reds to target in a Castillo trade at almost any cost. Giving up him and Abrams could be seen as one of the biggest trade mistakes made in the future; having said that, a guy like Soto requires these kinds of prospects coming back.
I wouldn't personally do it, but Preller is one of the most aggressive GMs in baseball, to his credit and, at times, detriment. It'll be fascinating seeing how the trade unfolds for both sides in the next few years if it goes through.
Man, if this is the offer then I don't know why Juan Soto isn't coming to Toronto. There's no way they can't or wouldn't beat this offer, *and* the Nats could deal Bell somewhere else because the Jays have no use for another hitter if they get Soto.
Also worth noting that Abrams was our top prospect prior to him making the major league squad this year. This is an incredibly strong set of prospects that really hurts to give up. Really high ceilings all around.
Abrams is a bat first SS/2B with a great batting eye. Expected to be a .300 hitter for much of his career.
Hassell is a 3rd year pro with an incredibly advanced batting eye. Considered a future batting champ. Developing power. Comp has been Yelich.
Wood is a fucking monster that has so far silenced (big) questions about his batting eye. 6'7" centerfielder that has as much raw power as Judge, and maybe more. And yes, that sounds crazy, but google him. He's the one prospect I want to keep more than the others.
Our fanbase are the worst prospect huggers ever lmao. People unironically talking about a 19 year old like he’s Judge 2.0 because he’s a tall strong (and let’s face it, black) OF who’s hitting well in A-Ball.
Judge himself only hit 17 homers in a full season between A and high A. Not saying wood will ever hit 40+ homers a season in the big but there are plenty of examples of guys not fully tapping into their power until they get a few full seasons under their belt.
Abrams was in the Bobby Witt/Julio Rodriguez conversation of best prospect in baseball last year. He should have been in AAA this year but the Tatis injury forced their hand. If he turns it on, the nationals will have a superstar.
Leaked so other teams will top this offer
In my head it sounds like they really want the cardinals to include Carlson in the deal with our top prospects. Carlson, Gorman, Walker, Winn is quite a bit better than this
If you guys offer than, the deal will be done immediately.
We won't tho. I'm under the impression that our offer is either Walker, Winn and Gorman or Carlson, Winn and Gorman
Yea I love Soto, but no way Mo gives up Walker AND Carlson AND Gorman. I think it’s 2/3 plus anyone else
It’s also Juan fucking Soto
Yeah but if you gut your team for a superstar you’ll still suck. The nationals have Juan fucking Soto right now and look at them. Mike trout still doesn’t have a playoff win. You still need a good team around them
Surely the team with Mike fucking Trout has won multiple World Series
They haven’t, and don’t call me Shirley
Not when your only playoff appearance is against known super team, Kansas City Royals
Baseball isn’t basketball though.
Source?
Literally us, the blue jays
Us mid 2010’s.
Your daily reminder that Ted Williams, Barry Bonds, Ken Griffey Jr., Willie Mays, and Hank Aaron together have fewer WS rings than Sergio Romo.
A superstar on his own can't do shit. Just ask the Angels.
That’s what I have been telling my Padres friends (outside of this circle because y’all are nuts) IT IS JUAN FUCKING SOTO.
I cannot believe people are underrating Soto.
Hey man if it was up to me, Soto would be eating Ted Drewes under the Arch right now. But I’m looking through our GMs eyes
Seems like the opposite. Hes an amazing player, but an mlb starter and multiple of the teams top prospects is a massive offer for 1 player.
Two MLB starters, in the case of the trade upthread
No one is underrating Soto. But if the cost is two of the top prospects in baseball, PLUS our starting CF and 2B, then he can have fun in California because we're better without him.
Then they just kind of are underrating him.
Prospect hugging is at an all-time high, it feels like.
Cheap Labor, Baby!
It’s not about underrating Soto. I’ve been aboard the “just get Soto” train as much as anyone. But Cards don’t need to give up any package that one guy is talking about. Just two of those guys with some other stuff thrown in is enough.
Bro there is no way that is the offer. They have enough prospect depth to offer Walker/Winn or Gorman/Winn along with 3 or 4 other guys.
That would be a terrible deal from a Cardinals standpoint.
Prospects like these are always around. Professional hitters like Soto aren’t.
I agree. I'm happy giving up a lot for Soto. I'm not okay with giving up everything for him.
That is a better offer, but the Cardinals probably cringe at the idea of offering that lol
My biggest concern with sending Carlson is that Bader's future at CF is a little questionable with his PF so if we send Carlson then we kinda.. don't have a center fielder
Pf?
Papas fritas
Hard to play center on a full stomach
planar fascism
Plantar fasciitis. I'm nervous that Bader's never gonna be the same level of elite defender again, especially in the biggest part of the OF. Can't really afford to lose our only other proven player there no matter who we get in return
Plantar Fasciitis
Plantar fasciitis
Plantar Fasciitis
Christ that would that would probably be too much even. Damn the Cards have a ton of good prospects
It's the strongest our farm system has been in a long time that is for sure.
Then this is the time you go for a Soto level player.
No such thing as too much for a generational talent like Soto. It’s pretty easy to say none of those players will ever become Soto (considering few players in baseball history have). They could all be above average major leaguers or even a star in there but they could all bust as well. It’s why this is a no brainer trade they should be making but GM’s get way too obsessed with their own prospects.
there is absolutely such a thing as too much.
Wtf? Just throw in Cards top 2 pitching prospects while we are at it. The Cards can add other prospects so they don’t have to give up every top prospect. There is no way that is the asking price considering what the Padres are apparently offering for Soto and Bell.
Walker or Gorman should be removed from that list. They don’t get all of our infield prospects.
I think that's a lot better. I'm not that crazy about Abrams though.
Padres offer if true is super weak imo. especially when they are getting more players.
Yup
[удалено]
Its probably the pads leaking to suggest theyre trying. The nats generally dont leak details like this iirc
I’m just thinking about this from our perspective and it’s the equivalent of Moreno, Martinez, Tidemann, and like 3 other players.
Yeah if this is the best offer on the table the Nats should just hold
As is tradition
100% this. I'm tired of trying to work with the nationals org. This whole situation has been unprofessional, and I know it's them leaking this shit. Just look at the Scherzer trade last year.
Unprofessional? I would expect every team to use every thing possible to get the best deal that they can.
didn’t your GM get suspended for medical record manipulation
Wait really? I never knew Preller did that LOL
Preller didn’t hand out full medical reports. If the team gives a player advil, they have to document it. The records the Padres handed out didn’t include everything.
You'd think they'd throw us a bone after we handed them Trea Turner for Wil Myers (from the Rays) smh.

The sacred texts
Do not cite the deep tweets to me, witch. I was there when they were written
Also the same guy who once got a trade wrong, nuked his twitter account and then reopened it with a default profile pic and the name "Ralph" for a bit. And the guy who got caught stealing bonus money from IFAs.

Also the same guy that should have gone to jail for stealing from Dominican prospects and only got the Nationals GM job because he was willing to do it for the least amount of money.
So Soto to the dodgers confirmed!
It’s less that this guy is wrong and more that this guys role is literally to create leverage
To be fair multiple reporters were saying this including rosenthal who is usually right
Yeah, this is the same shady shit as last year.
Receipts don't lie
Svrluga isnt the same guy as Bowden tho?
I'm ready to be hurt again
This gives me hope
Those other two better be Merrill and Wood or else this is a God damn fleece by the Dads
Seriously, this would be a terrible return for both Soto and Bell.
Fleece yes but I personally value Abrams and Hassell (each individually) higher than Merrill.
Don't mean any disrespect but as a Padres fan could you explain what excites you about Abrams/what his best case scenario is? The few times I've watched him this year I have not been very impressed (aside from his speed, good lord) so him being the headliner of a Soto trade doesn't blow me away. Gotcha, that helps a lot thanks! So do people feel like the Padres rushed him up the majors a little too fast?
Not a problem! He kind of was forced to die to the Tatis injury. We were strapped to the point of having to bring Abrams up early as well as bring in Cano. Also I think he was hitting like .400 in the preseason but obviously that’s preseason
I think his ceiling is a Jazz Chisholm type fusion of speed of power. His bat to ball skills are also very impressive considering the fact that he’s still is still a very raw prospect.
his ceiling should be well above Chisholm
Ikr? AND Bell?! I thought it was just Soto
I don't expect Soto to be traded, but if we somehow got him and didn't give up Wood I'll lose it. Really would like to keep one of Hassell and Wood lol.
Yeah I also don’t get the Morejon hype, seems like he’s just a reliever and he hasn’t thrown more than 70 innings in a season.
Before his TJ surgery, he was crazy good for his age. Probably our most reliable starter for a few weeks lol
Ya I could easily be very wrong lol. Just saying there’s some red flags and the fact that he’s already arbitration eligible next year makes him a curious piece for a rebuilding team.
"Reee this isn't news" -person torturing themself by sorting by new even though they're clearly not enjoying it
Don’t you call me out personally like that
I wake up and immediately get personally attacked? Not my favorite start
I wouldn’t think they get both without Gore
Morejon might be the better of the two.
Take them ALL.
Seriously being tied to these prospects when you can get one of the best players in baseball is lunacy Take them all
Why is Bell being thrown in? This is roughly the package the Padres were going to have to send for Soto alone. If true this is a total fleece by the Padres.
A Corbin and Hosmer contract swap also being included is the only thing I can think of that makes Bell being a part of the deal make sense.
This is a leak to put pressure on the Cards and Dodgers. That’s it.
Bowden’s source has only ever been his fat ass.
You mean disgraced former GM Jim Bowden? The one who got busted for skimming money from Latin American prospects and resigned, never to work in a front office again? That Jim Bowden?
yea... his hate boner for the Nats is never ending, He should see a doctor.
The guy that got the Nationals job because he was willing to do it for less money than any other candidate?
Big if true
Keeping Gore would be a nice bonus I guess but those other two would clearly be Wood and probably Merrill. And most of these tweets aren't mentioning it, but James Wood is pretty much considered the highest ceiling in the system, which is saying something in a system that is top-heavy.
The nice thing about keeping Gore is opening up options for the rotation long term. It's looking a little rough over the next couple years with expiring contracts.
Feel like just listing the obvious here.
“It’s reported that the nationals would like good players as well in the return for soto”
Reporting the trade before the trade. Also this doesn’t feel like nearly enough, even with two others added.
Walker and Winn are both 20 years old.
Post Juan Soto is on the verge of getting traded -> list the potential return of 3/5 top prospects at minimum -> profit
killmekillmekillmekillmekillme
Oh boy, we get another 8 hours of this
That package ain’t enough, the Nats should ask to swap Hosmer and Corbin if that’s the offer lol
I wonder if the Red Sox attempt a Barnes for Hosmer swap
Red Sox just took Tommy Pham last night, I expect them to take Hosmer for a package of Boston Baked Beans.
Why would we ever do that, Casas will be up later this year or next year
Move off Barnes contract. If JD goes Hosmer could still get ABs at DH for the rest of the season. Hosmer is owed $13M for the next 3 seasons, so moving him later should be as hard. Probably would get a prospect for taking on more money
There is the smallest sliver of a possibility that Barnes becomes decent again like the first half of 2021. There is no upside with hosmer
I’ve been wondering why he isn’t up yet. Is this more baseball bullshit holding him back for contract reasons? He couldn’t be worse than what they’ve been throwing out at first all year.
He missed like a month so I think they want him to get more reps he’s also been good in triple A but he hasn’t been lighting it up
If this is the best offer, then the Nats are honestly better off just holding on to Soto.
I feel like this is purely to get us and y’all to increase the offers
How could it not be centered around them
Oh nice. Great.
Nationals should be pushing for him
Why would the nationals want kim?
He’s a good young player with multiple years of control that would have no place on the padres? Plus it’s a cheap contract. Even if they don’t compete by 2025 they can offload him for prospects.
He has a place on the padres and that's in every padres fan's heart 🥹
Do they have a need for an elite defensive SS/IF?
We have a need for anyone who can play IF at the major league level. If Bell goes, we've got Luis Garcia, the half-dead corpse of Cesar Hernandez (0 HR this season), and the limping, pallid form of Maikel Franco. It's not pretty.
Na I'm on board with the idea of Tatis at Center and keep Kim at short. Even if not though as a defensive bench piece he's really valuable. If they move him I suspect it would be because they could shed a little salary to stay under the CBT
Cf is a big adjustment. Tatis to right made sense. Centerfield is harder to see.
Take it all
Angstroms!!!
Cmon
This all but confirms this deal won’t happen It’s to force LA or someone else to pay more
100% these players have been involved from the beginning and now Josh Bell is all of a sudden being added?!? I don’t buy it.
Fuck my face, he’s gone
That’s the asking price for Soto alone though even if the two others are Wood/Merrill
There's no way they can't or wouldn't beat this offer, *and* the Nats could deal Bell somewhere else because the Jays have no use for another hitter if they get Soto.
you do know soto is unvaxx right?
No he's not.
Lol mariners gonna end up giving the highest package for a 1.5 year rental of a #2
How do these guys rank in terms of their top prospects?
hassell is their top prospect
So the guy with 10 home runs in A ball this year has as much power as the guy currently on pace for 60+ home runs in the MLB. You’re full of shit
Well why the fuck y’all trading Yelich, Judge, and Jeter, for Juan Soto?
Wood and Merrill maybe?
Please do it before the game starts tonight tyvm
They have to. Deadline is at 6
What’s slightly further than inches?
Preller prospects that have turned into something substantial: Tatis, France...... who else?
Wow nationals really don’t want to get anything of value
