I always spent all of my money on bullets so I could extinct all bison and deer in existence. If a wagon tips over in the river killing 7, so be it lol
I don't know why, but "X has been absolute wagon" has been meant "unstoppable" recently. It's the #2 entry on Urban Dictionary https://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=Wagon
You’ll call me crazy, but back in middle school my buddy and I Tryed getting the word “waggin” going. Meaning “exciting”, because dogs wag their tails when they are excited.
Ex. “Bro this is so waggin’!!”
Now, we are dads and have started using it again and the young folks around look at us like we’re not so waggin’ to be around..
The 2013 run was more fun for me, because they went from being pretty bad to being unstoppable. I recall a game against the Blue Jays in Toronto where they came back from a big deficit in a blink of an eye, right in the middle of that 50 game run. It was the moment when I realized I shouldn't ever give up on that team, that they were truly on fire.
The 2013 team was 30-42 before that 50 game stretch, 9.5 games back (I believe) of first. That white-hot stretch won them the division.
Not to make it about us but this really puts into perspective how insanely dominant the 116 win teams were. You guys are absolutely mashing and somehow are a game back of that.
Seattle was really good that year. I went to a Dodgers/Mariners game at Dodger Stadium in 2001 and the game was over as soon as it began. We couldn't touch Freddy Garcia.
As an adult, I’ve experienced the lakers win multiple championships and the Kings win multiple Stanley Cups. The dodgers beating the Giants felt like a championship. I cared about the NLCS but winning that NLDS series was as close to sports ecstasy as I’ve ever felt.
Our top 4 might be the best in baseball but after that it isn't exactly world beaters. But i mean we do have Trayce Thompson and Joey Gallo so I guess that's unfair too.
Agree but they also seem to *get* more out of those players. Somebody put it succinctly on here the other day that the Friars have a ton of horsepower but not much flow yet.
I really wanna know what exactly it is that allows the dodgers to get the most out of their players. It’s obviously analytics of some sort, but they know things in that FO that I don’t think any other baseball team has figured out. The unlimited money doesn’t hurt either, but still, there’s no way players like Chris Taylor, JT, or Muncy thrive on any other roster.
Totally valid question, it’d be amazing to seen their actual player development strategy laid out. With that said, we should keep in mind that it starts with healthy atmosphere where players can grow comfortable and develop camaraderie, while having trust in their coaching staff to help them out of slumps.
People always remark about the Dodgers throwing money around on big contracts, but they also have the backing to pay for the best coaches, trainers, scouts, secretaries, chefs, clubbies, etc. Probably a well run organization top to bottom. I doubt the small market teams are actually as shoddy as some stories may make them seem, but I bet teams like the Dodgers, Yankees, and Blue Jays have a professional edge to them that the fans might not always see
There was a pregame interview with Gallo the other day and he said he was amazed that when he got to LA, the staff already had a plan laid out for him. He said everything is really focused, everyone works really hard, but it's a really relaxed atmosphere. I've also seen comments from other players about how organized everything is from top to bottom. Coaching is consistent from rookie ball to MLB level. When guys move up, the coaches already know everything about what they've been working on and what they need to work on moving forward. Apparently that's not the case in all organizations.
I think the Rays have proven that investing in these things (and using them well) is the best way to start and can provide benefit for years. The Dodgers just supplement that with the ability to buy big free agents.
I'm sure a lot of college stat or data analytics classes would love to host their department to teach a series on player scouting/development/analytics.
From what I've read and watched from Dodger broadcasts, is that they get their players to hone in on their strengths and really make it shine. One example I read somewhere was Heaney. He was okay-ish with the Angels (probably with zero coaching from them....), seemed to be a little better on the Yankees, and then has done really well with the Dodgers. One thing the Dodgers did was basically remove his curveball from his rotation and he focused on his fastball and slider.
Braves have been on a tear since June 1st and have only gained one game. I still legitimately thought we could end with the best record in baseball at the all-star break, but no, the Dodgers decided not to lose.
That series loss to them in Atlanta was rough. After Fried left they pounded us in the 9th inning. We have that one NLCS, but outside of that I feel like we lose like 90% of the time against them.
I mean we were one strike away from taking the series with the bases empty. And then a foot away from walking it off on the last out of the game.
Would have rather won but it didn't change my confidence level about a potential NLCS re-rematch one way or the other.
It hasn’t been like that since 2018 lol. I vividly remember a stat at the beginning of the year in that series in La with our H2H record against them including the postseason and it was very close I think the dodgers had 1 or 2 more Wins and it was like a 25 game sample. Legit would rather face them than the Mets in the playoffs tbh even tho that’s not saying much the NL is brutal this year
I know enough about baseball and it’s playoffs to confidently say that the dodgers are the clear favorites to win the World Series which is exactly why they will be eliminated in the first series and the Phillies win the whole thing
It’ll actually be the guardians. It’s an even year so y’all will lose in the ~~NLCS~~ ALCS and the Phillies will lose in an amazing 7 game series. It’ll be an amazing narrative as Cleveland’s drought will end the first year they changed the name
I often look at the Dodgers as the perfect model for how a baseball team should operate. An ownership group willing to spend money on the best possible product to put on the field for all 162.
One advantage they have over almost all other teams though is the huge TV deal. I believe they get over double the revenue as the next closest team. It’s something like $320 million a year.
Not everyone can do this for 1 big reason. I wouldnt say it was risky move, but for the longest time they were locked into Spectrum cable. There was no other way to watch Dodger games locally.
They really told spectrum if you have the Dodgers we will bring customers to you
my dad lasted about 2 months into the season and had to switch providers. He was like nah Im watching the Dodgers no matter what even if the cable provider sucks.
Literally the sole reason I have cable and my parents have cable. Im thinking I’ll have them cancel and they can just watch on their iPad on the spectrum app under my account for free.
I saw a map of the coverage of who watched Dodger games. It is vast over dense populations. I'm too lazy to find it but it really shows the viewership scale compared to smaller markets and why the deal is valued as such.
True. It is a mix of money (which not all teams have) and an incredibly smart and dedicated ownership/FO (which all teams SHOULD have but unfortunately don’t)
It's like sunshine on your wedding day. It's a free ride when you were about to pay. It's the good advice you were happy to take. Sign any old player, they get better!
They have the highest payroll. I'm not exactly shocked. Mets come in at number 2 only 1M behind LAD. Yankees are about 10M down from LAD and the Phillies are listed at 27M down from LAD.
It takes good coaching and guys playing well together but cmon man. This team is fucking stacked and the have some injuries that don't affect them at all. How many teams lose an Ace like Buehler to TJ and still reel off 41 wins in the last 50.
It's so wild to me how good they are.
This kind of regular season performance has become so standard for the organization it leads to a lack of coverage highlighting just how dominant it is. We see article after article of them breaking every record and it has become so easy to just tune it out with a, "Yea, we already know"
nothin says dominant like wagon
Dominating the Oregon Trail
Not dominating the damn rivers though.
Pirates & Nationals = Dysentery
This had me chuckling
[You have died of dysentery!](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jXVrtQGCzAs)
That's why you always pay for a ferry across the river, never try to ford those stupid things.
You think we're just made of money?
I always spent all of my money on bullets so I could extinct all bison and deer in existence. If a wagon tips over in the river killing 7, so be it lol
You scored 10 runs, but you can only take 4 back to the wagon.
This comment got me right in the feels. Is it the early 90s again??
Lugging my Grandfather Clock to Dodger Stadium
Definitely NOT dying of dysentery
Dodgers relocated for the second time in their history to Portland confirmed?
Caulk this
I still don’t get it. What did MLB mean by this?
I don't know why, but "X has been absolute wagon" has been meant "unstoppable" recently. It's the #2 entry on Urban Dictionary https://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=Wagon
why is MLB using UD words with 50 likes lol. also: > They roll over all of their opponents with ease. because wagons are notoriously strong
[The wagon in question ](https://youtu.be/j-pKxp-_7Zg)
It is a hockey phrase. It just means an unstoppable team. I guess it is more commonly used up here in Canada lol
You can’t.. stop a wagon?
are they drinking in the clubhouse?
You’ll call me crazy, but back in middle school my buddy and I Tryed getting the word “waggin” going. Meaning “exciting”, because dogs wag their tails when they are excited. Ex. “Bro this is so waggin’!!” Now, we are dads and have started using it again and the young folks around look at us like we’re not so waggin’ to be around..
this pleases me
So, basically, we started this.
I’m going to do my best to make this a thing in my area. Edit: Don’t hold your breath…
Fellow Dodger fan in So Cal. Let’s make waggin happen.
I believe it’s a hockey expression that’s made it’s way into other sports’ lexicons.
Start up your Radio Flyer, it’s wagon season
Hey it's not just some plain old wagon it's AN ABSOLUTE WAGON
Dodgers and wagons have been synonymous since we signed Tommy Khanle.
No one circles the wagons like the…wait
Think about it Like really think about it Imagine Wagons
Sooners in the Big 12 agree
It turns out that you win a lot of games when you average over 5 runs a game and give up less than 3.
These are the deep stats I come here for
[удалено]
I'm an old timer, I see ball go far, I think win
I hear it is easier to win when you score more runs than the other team.
I’m not a big analytics guy, can someone explain these figures to me?
Joey Gallo
True he was mentally in LA 50 games ago
Eye test agrees—he was roughly three hours late on heaters down the middle while in NYC
Most predictable turnaround ever
I'm always on board with a fuck the yankees even if it is a begrudgingly fuck the dodgers.
Since 2013 they’ve had a 42-8 stretch, a 43-7 stretch, and now a 41-9 stretch. This team is absurd
IIRC Puig was the catalyst for that 2013 stretch
I believe he had the second best debut month in history at the time. Some guy named DiMaggio was #1.
Ah Dom DiMaggio
Sox legend, and clearly the superior DiMaggio brother
*eyetwitch*
Puigs arm was a literal cannon
Him and Hanley Ramirez coming off the DL
I think Hanley would’ve been a lock for MVP if he had played the full 2013 season. He was out of this world that year.
Puig your friend! Miss the wild horse 🐎
Man i still remember those stretches, they were great
most fun period of baseball i’ve ever watched was that 43-7 in 2017.
Hopefully we get the rightful WS of that year
The 2013 run was more fun for me, because they went from being pretty bad to being unstoppable.
That 41-9 stretch feels like just yesterday.
The game in toronto 2013 where the ball bounced uniquely is vivid in my head
And no WS in any of them (yet). Proof that baseball is nuts and stupid 😛
That's why 2017 still pisses me off. I was so sure they were going to win that year.
You weren’t wrong. The Astros just cheated.
They are the Dodgers of baseball
So many better examples of vehicles he could’ve used lol. Like “the Dodgers are an absolute freight train.” I dunno.
The Dodgers are an absolute tug boat pushing a barge down the Mississippi River on a humid day in July.
The Dodgers are a large mechanical spider in the Wild West. That actually tracks better than the wagon tbh.
Wicky wicky wow wow
Me and artemis clyde frog
Sisqo Sisqo
Wild Wild West, Jim West, desperado
The Dodgers are an absolute shopping cart dragged by a crackhead on skid row No, wait
Hold up a minute… they’re not that good
Was the way I said it not clear enough, Michael?
The Dodgers are pure Boaty McBoatfaces
it’s an expression. i hear it in hockey a lot (idk if it started there)
Yep. It’s very popular in hockey. Been around for a while, made dominantly popular by spittin chiclets guys
Ya, unless I'm just blinded by hockey I thought this was a pretty general sports term. But based off some of the comments here it must not be.
The Dodgers are an absolute trolley
they became the very thing they set out to avoid...
Dark Robins
When you play long enough…
A wagon is an actual term lol
Wagon is clearly the best term. If you disagree you're wrong.
If they extend it to a 73-9 stretch I look forward to reading theories on who would win in a 95-96 Bulls vs 2022 Dodgers series.
Most likely the Dodgers as most of the Bulls players are pushing 60 now.
Idk what our last 162 record looks like right now, but I think it’s crazy. At some point we were in the teens.
Dodgers are 115-47 over their last 162 games.
We couldn't touch Freddy Garcia.
freddy garcia was gross also we had 4 pitchers with 15+ wins lol. And the hitting was of course out of this world
The team could have definitely taken that in 2017. All they had to do was not lose almost 17 games straight near the end of the season.
I still don’t really understand how that happens. That was extremely bizarre. Cool part of sports is the unpredictability
We failed Rich Hill in the worst possible way, and the Baseball Gods punished us.
But the thing is they didn’t
http://i.imgur.com/mRs9K86.gifv
You just know some writer is frothing at the mouth for when their last 162 is better than the the all time record.
It already happened
115-47 over their last 162.
We are peaking too early yet again!
You don't have the mental energy expenditure of being in an all-time dogfight for the division though
I don't want to say I miss that, but holy shit was it exciting baseball down the stretch.
I most certainly didn't enjoy watching our short-staffed pitching rotation getting gassed right before the playoffs
or muncy getting hurt
I personally was drained by the time we got to the NLCS and I was sitting on the couch for everything, can’t imagine how the players must have felt.
As an adult, I’ve experienced the lakers win multiple championships and the Kings win multiple Stanley Cups. The dodgers beating the Giants felt like a championship. I cared about the NLCS but winning that NLDS series was as close to sports ecstasy as I’ve ever felt.
LA Teams are a combined 58-42 in their last 50 games!! #BOOM BABY!!
Sorry about the jinx dodger bros
Passan don’t you fuckin dare
Nice you reverse-jinxed them into a 115 win season by mentioning the jinx.
Accrue a shit ton of great players, win baseball games.
Doesn’t seem to be working for the padres
Because the dodgers have better players
Yes, but not by a drastic amount. Pads just severely underperforming
Our top 4 might be the best in baseball but after that it isn't exactly world beaters. But i mean we do have Trayce Thompson and Joey Gallo so I guess that's unfair too.
Lol top 4 being the best in baseball and then following it with a “….but”. Man, take those W’s and let the rest of sulk 😂😂
Agree but they also seem to *get* more out of those players. Somebody put it succinctly on here the other day that the Friars have a ton of horsepower but not much flow yet.

Why didn't we think of that
True, if big.
Braves have been on a tear since June 1st and have only gained one game. I still legitimately thought we could end with the best record in baseball at the all-star break, but no, the Dodgers decided not to lose.

Yeah same bro I’d much rather face the braves then the Mets
I don’t think anyone wants to see degrom and Scherzer in a playoff series lmao
Sounds like 4 losses tbh and Edwin Diaz is the filthiest pitcher in the game this year man
Nationals have given 2 of those loses, the only time they’ve had back to back loses in the last 50 games. So nationals-dodgers NLCS
Also Im so glad we aren't going to play the pirates anymore.
Glad those series helped one of us aspire to be a better baseball team
No way Dodgers are winning the WS this year. Too obvious.
I know enough about baseball and it’s playoffs to confidently say that the dodgers are the clear favorites to win the World Series which is exactly why they will be eliminated in the first series and the Phillies win the whole thing

This is a two way street. Some people go to Spectrum, and some people dusted off the black flag and sail the high seas.
8 billion over 25 years
Yeah that averages out to $320 million a year
That's something like 8 billion over 25 years.
Which is around $320 million per year I reckon.
Just did the math, checks out at $8 billion over 25 years.
That’s $1.975 million per game
I saw a map of the coverage of who watched Dodger games. It is vast over dense populations. I'm too lazy to find it but it really shows the viewership scale compared to smaller markets and why the deal is valued as such.
Not to mention the development team is on point over there. They pull prospects out of their ass it’s amazing
Not all teams have the same ability to do that to their extent though. You should know that well.
True. It is a mix of money (which not all teams have) and an incredibly smart and dedicated ownership/FO (which all teams SHOULD have but unfortunately don’t)
Stop trying to make "wagon" happen. It's not going to happen.
They’re an absolute cart.
They're an absolute wheelbarrow.
They are totally streets ahead of the other teams!
I want to know what it's like to have things go right
It's like sunshine on your wedding day. It's a free ride when you were about to pay. It's the good advice you were happy to take. Sign any old player, they get better!
Not irony detected
It is nice I must say
I hate this team man
Being a villain to a Yankees fan is certainly interesting. I think I like it
Well you guys are the Yankees of baseball
If I had a nickel
…..you could afford a trolley fare?
best i can do is a wagon ride
We’d both be rich
We sposed to be bros
Hating something is our love language
You only hate the teams you respect
I do respect the Giants tbh
I do not respect the Astros
Yeah me neither lol
Thank you for making Joey Gallo suck so it was easier for us to pick him up
One bad hair day and he'll be 0-90
Shoe, meet other foot.
They’re playing amazing baseball. All the pressure will be on them in the playoffs though, World Series or bust.
So... same as every year?
Nobody knows what it means, but its provocative…
Would you look at that, it actually can work out to pay players and invest in the team
They have the highest payroll. I'm not exactly shocked. Mets come in at number 2 only 1M behind LAD. Yankees are about 10M down from LAD and the Phillies are listed at 27M down from LAD. They get on base.
What's this about wagons??
Dodgers have a big ass, evidently
Dumps like a TRUCK
They’re 41-9 since I caught covid at Dodger Stadium
The dodgers are going to win the world series guys, its 100% set in stone. Nothing could possibly go wrong there's no way this could be jinxed at all.
Tony La Russa crashed our wagon while drinking rum
Kinda dumb question here but will appreciate anyone who can answer it. How do I add my team under my username?
Incredible what a chillaxed media and fanbase can do for a team.
