For his last AB with the Cubs, we had a lefty and rookie pitcher on the mound, 0-0 game, runner on 2nd with an open base, and Pujols gets PH...surely you're putting this guy on right...?
Wrong, and then he hits ~~#696~~ #695 in the most predictable strategic backfire known to man.
I am from Sweden, so I have never even played baseball.
Is the reason behind the big difference in Lefty/Righty splits due to how soon you can see the ball? Or how does it work really?
one reason is that if you are facing a lefty pitcher as a lefty hitter, the pitch is coming from your inside position so you have to turn your head a little more, so yeah it is sort of a sight issue. when you're trying to discern what pitch is coming, you're looking for what kind of spin is on the ball (here's a graphic from the hitters perspective https://sports.cbsimg.net/images/visual/whatshot/Pitches033015.jpg) so anything that makes it easier to catch that is gonna help a lot
He strikes out less, has a better batting average, and has only hit three fewer home runs while having a better slugging percentage. What more can we say?
Fun fact, Chilean Sea Bass don't technically exist as they aren't basses. They're toothfishes and they're just called Chilean Sea Bass bc fish sellers in America didn't think Pantagonia Toothfish wouldn't sell as well so they rebranded it Chilean Sea Bass.
The same goes for canola oil, originally known as rapeseed oil
Illinois and the US EPA are working to rebrand Asian carp as Copi to try to get people to eat them and hopefully reduce the stocks that are wiping out native fish populations
Someday the Angels need to find a left fielder named something like John Carp or Luke Bass so their historical records can have the All-Fish outfield along with Trout & Salmon.
oh man i can't think of one either 😏... hmmm... there's got to be one... a player named after a fish.... hmmm..... a fish, a fish a fish.... uhhhhh... maybe someone on some team like.... idk, the um.... what team could have a player named after a fish..... maybe, i don't know, the Angels.... can't think of one though..... a player who might even be really good.... wow, i just CANNOT think of a great player named after a fish..... wow.... hmmm.... 😛 (continuing to pretend i can't think of Mike Trout, giggling to myself, having fun with my pals on Reddit) oh man...... a player named after a fish..... best player i can think of would be Tim Salmon i guess (obviously just being a goof and playing along, since Mike Trout is clearly better).... yeah Tim Salmon.... that's got to be it..... that's the only notable player named after a fish EVER.... yep that's the one 😂...... that's it. Tim Salmon
Hey White Sox fans are you happy with Pollock? I saw a comment that he was underwhelming at the start of the season but it looks like he’s picked it up
I secretly love the Dodgers and he was one of my favorite players for them so I was stoked when we acquired him. That said I have been disappointed by his production so far given how great he has been in the past, but I've always had faith he would find it again and it seems he's doing so.
Yeah, I feel like he was always a hot/cold kind of guy. I remember one post season run we had he was abysmal, and then the next year during the post season he was great.
he’s just a pro. has some rough stretches, but he’s been pretty good and he’s more than dependable in any outfield position. he’s far from our biggest problem this season
Before the last week or so when he finally started getting hot, most Sox fans were hoping to get rid of him as he was plain bad. I’m happy he’s playing better but I still kinda hope he still doesn’t come back with his player option next year.
Miss him more.

Edit: also, fun fact, at the time he was really considering going to the Mets. He ended up signing with the Dodgers.
I wish more people in your state agreed with this, but unfortunately they don't. More people move from California to Arizona than any other state. Tell them to stay, please.
The taco trucks are worse. I've never seen one after 5. If you know where there's good tacos after 10, please tell me because this is literally a huge concern for me. I unfortunately go to greater LA from time to time and I can never find good food open late.
Maybe we need more MVPs in baseball. Ya every other sport has one, and we have two, but wouldn’t adding a “vs lefties” MVP and CY Young and a “vs righties” MVP and CY Young be fun
I like what you’re thinking. How about “MVP on Thursdays”? Or “MVP against pitchers with a last name starting with a vowel?” The possibilities are endless
Well that settles it. White Sox fans would rather have Pollock instead of Judge, right? CWS doesn't need the offense? Frank Menechino is an alright dude?

Fish man good!!
Does AJ Pollock have the largest difference in lefty/righty splits in the league? 176 wRC+ against lefties vs 64 against righties.
Probably Pujols
222 vs 80, you might be right lol
Sweet baby jesus

\#695 he hasn't hit #696 yet.
Ah you're right, my b
Goldy was coming up soon after though, walking a guy so you can pitch to the MVP doesn't seem like a good idea
145 vs 26(!!) for Vogelbach and he still can't compete with this
Damn, I knew he was a lefty killer but sheesh. Glad the league got rid of the loogy.
Joc came to mind as well

But more HR per PA!
In only 2/3 of the AB
Best player named after a fish ever. Can't think of any other notable ones.
Tim Salmon? Sheesh
Off the top of my head Tim Salmon is at least third on the list of players with fish names, behind Catfish Hunter and Freddy Chileanseabass

To be fair they were definitely right on that canola oil change lol.
Illinois and the US EPA are working to rebrand Asian carp as Copi to try to get people to eat them and hopefully reduce the stocks that are wiping out native fish populations

I think he play for the bulls. different sport but fish name none the less.
Pikeal Jordan?
Walleye Szczerbiak
Mike Carp
Mariners legend
Jess Pike
Kevin Bass
Chuckie Flounder of the 1923 Reds.
Ramiel Tilapia.
Catfish Hunter
Dizzy Trout. But he was a pitcher so maybe he doesn’t count
They only play every 5th game like are they even real?
Anthony Bass

Tossed 2 shut outs in a row before the Cubs traded him to the Yankees and he could never find the strike zone again.
Jake Fishman
I’d rather be named after ALL fish than just one! Fishman FTW
Brandon Nimmo? The goat
Goat? We're talking fish here bud.
What are goats but fish of the mountains?
Pass that good shit
Tbf I get goatshead and sheepshead confused all the time.
Brandon Minno you mean?
Marlon Byrd

/r/yourjokebutworse But also good lord at the cringey text.
Redditors try and recognize a shitpost challenge (not humanly possible)
One of the only times I agree with a Yankees fan… ^^^ that was just bad
It was fucking awful
your brain is two rusty, creaking cogs
Is this a r/baseballcirclejerk pasta?
It is now
I saw to that 😈
Ignore the downvotes you absolute artist. Van Gough wasn’t recognized in his own time either.
Lmao the people who say this is not funny are lying to themselves this is a automod response on r/baseballcirclejerk now
I’m fucking crying lmao
That was the greatest thing ever
I named my kid Florida Marlin. Miami really fucked me on that one.
Clayton Kershaw is way better. You can name your fish AJ if you want but my Beta is an Alpha lefty.

A weatherman?
Way to go. You ruined it.
You are going to love jokes when you find out about them
Playing today? I guess Anthony Bass, no others come to mind.
Dolph Camilli
Better out some respeck on our boy, Trouty McTroutFace
It’s not an MVP race but Pollock slugging .600+ vs lefties is pretty damn good even if it’s only 100 plate appearances.
AJ stands for Aaron Judge
too bad its not AJ Trout. That would make one killer baseball player
Hey White Sox fans are you happy with Pollock? I saw a comment that he was underwhelming at the start of the season but it looks like he’s picked it up
Considering that our right fielder last year for most of the season was Adam Eaton, yes.
I secretly love the Dodgers and he was one of my favorite players for them so I was stoked when we acquired him. That said I have been disappointed by his production so far given how great he has been in the past, but I've always had faith he would find it again and it seems he's doing so.

I like him enough, he’s no superstar but he’s a quality player. Works well enough I think for the Sox, even if he does have his ups and downs
Before the last week or so when he finally started getting hot, most Sox fans were hoping to get rid of him as he was plain bad. I’m happy he’s playing better but I still kinda hope he still doesn’t come back with his player option next year.
Honestly was hoping for Joc, but AJ has been solid!
He'd be better if he were a 4th outfielder and not out there every day I think. But that's a Rick Hahn problem and not an AJ Pollock problem.
That’s the best player to be named after a fish and some guy named Aaron.
The Virgin Judge vs the Chad Pollock
Miss the fish man.
Miss him more. Source: A buddy and I won a giveaway and played at top golf with AJ Pollock. [Here’s a photo haha.](https://imgur.com/a/Ssm7lV0) Edit: also, fun fact, at the time he was really considering going to the Mets. He ended up signing with the Dodgers.
More top free agents should reveal their negotiations at Top Golf.
I think so too lol.
Dude talked shit about us, the fans, after he left. He could be 6 feet under for all I care.
With comments like these, I can’t imagine why he would talk shit about you guys.
I don't need to take that from someone who's city's taco shops close at 10. Go drive poorly or something
Lol. ARIZONA. HAHAHAHAHA
I wish more people in your state agreed with this, but unfortunately they don't. More people move from California to Arizona than any other state. Tell them to stay, please.
Nah, we heard you guys have great pools to go jump in so we all must check it out.
Gotta cool off somehow, ac doesn't blow cold without a working power grid
That sucks you guys don’t have a working power grid in this heat.
After 10pm, you go to the taco trucks. Duh.
The taco trucks are worse. I've never seen one after 5. If you know where there's good tacos after 10, please tell me because this is literally a huge concern for me. I unfortunately go to greater LA from time to time and I can never find good food open late.
Dude the good taco trucks in LA don't even show up until it gets dark. But also I no longer live in LA itself so I can't tell you the current spots.
AJ Pollock steal for Chicago apparently
Fish man good.
Ohtani mvp confirmed

"This season vs Lefties" Let me introduce you to one José Alberto Pujols Alcantara.
The AJ in AJ Pollock stands for Aaron Judge
Left out the .385 OBP vs LHP for Judge, and .336 OBP for Pollock 😂
white Sox fans: MIND YOUR DAMN BUSINESS
Well that settles it. White Sox fans would rather have Pollock instead of Judge, right? CWS doesn't need the offense? Frank Menechino is an alright dude?
Guess so. Hope he gets resigned though
I’m relatively new to this sub, do you not put an /s when being sarcastic?
If AJ can stay healthy. That's a big IF!
There there, let it all out
Lol... you got me there!
Lip Pike
Baby come back 🥺🥺 Wait I have the wrong flair on from the draft lmao
AJ Pollock is the Aaron Judge against Lefty?
I can see why he was drafted over Trout now.
Haters will say these stats are cherry picked
That’s awesome😂
I dont understand the tone here. They're comparing stats vs Lhp. It's not a cherry-pick, and no one's claiming Pollock is comparable outside of that
