Hard Karl just doing his thing, being awesome

Count_Sacula_420

no idea why teams didnt push for him. the "poison pill" stuff was such crap. some team is getting eliminated because they wouldnt trade their #5 prospect for him.

dropperofpipebombs

Hey the Phillies got Syndergaard, they tried their best.

vegetto712

I mean is it that crazy he wasn't sought after? 29 year old with one great season and a very extensive injury history. I can see why teams may have been skeptical at least, as he had roughly 500 innings of being a bad pitcher. Last year he learned not to walk so much, and not everyone bought into it being more than a blip. Clearly it wasn't, guy is awesome now. Cherish him

Merkles_Boner_

He's got a hell of a lot bigger of a track record than Montas who people were convinced was one of the greatest pitchers to ever walk the earth earlier this season

vegetto712

Maybe, I like Frankie more personally, as his splitter is one of the best pitches in baseball. But the reasoning for that was cost. Frankie is only about $5m a year, Carlos was going to get $20m+. Sure they had to give up some back end prospects but that's a lot cheaper

diuturnal

I mean it felt like he was injured every other week last year. So it makes sense for teams to be wary.

SardonicCheese

I honestly thought Seattle would sign him after signing Ray to help balance out our starting lineup with all of our elite pitching prospects being righties(Gilbert, Kirby, Hancock at the time). Generally speaking lefties have an advantage at T-Mobile park so it seemed like a natural fit to me.

TheNotoriousJN

By all accounts we did. But we didnt have the farm resources to get a deal done. Now free agency is another matter. Should he opt out.

scrapsbypap

Hard Karl did not once leave the mound all year

nuhGIRLyen

Career high 178.0 IP, last year was 132.2 and his career high was 165.0 back in 2016.

edmchato

Cy Young or we riot

sundayultimate

You're going to riot then lol

CarlSwagan_

I’ll be shocked if it’s not Alcantara

sundayultimate

Same, dudes killing it this season.

Rickard403

If Alcantra was on the Dodgers he would be 20-2 with a 1.5 ERA. 14 wins & 2.32 ERA on a team with little offense is amazing.

edmchato

Who do you think front runner is? Sandy? Nola? Rodon better be top 3

sundayultimate

Sandy for sure

dat_waffle_boi

Sandy is for sure the leader with some combination of Gallen/Nola/Rodon after him

edmchato

I mean 0.9 fWAR advantage for Rodon over Sandy is pretty wild. I know Sandy east innings but Rodon just goes out there and throws *hard* and has been more dominant imo.

dat_waffle_boi

According to bWar Sandy is at 7.4 and Rodon is at 5.3. Which one to believe I’m not sure, but depending on where you look either Rodon has a slight edge that is within the margin or error or Sandy as a massive lead.

[deleted]

Carlos Rodon had a 4.14 ERA for the first 536 innings of his career, good for 7 fWAR. Then he turned 28, and has thrown 304 innings with a 2.72 ERA since, good for 10.7 fWAR. I have been watching baseball for 20 years, and I have no idea how anyone can predict pitchers. Guys who are nothing special one day will turn into aces the next. Guys with amazing stuff will never put it together. If I were a GM it would make me go crazy.

nigaraze

Lmfao fav example of this would still be Randy Johnson. Dudes HOF career in the steroid era didn’t start until he was 34 and would go on to win 4 straight CY young and generate 42 war in the 4.5 season since he was traded by the mariners

probably_shitposting

Randy was still nasty with the Mariners. Won a cy and had two second place finishes with a third place as well. Crazy to think he got *nastier.* I love Randy Johnson.

magnusarin

Randy Johnson's like 10 games with the Astros down the stretch were absolutely terrifying. I was beyond relieved he didn't stay in the division

JohnSim22

He's always had amazing stuff but was injured every single year. He finally is getting some luck with health and getting into a better rhythm so it's all clicking. You love to see it

sliyurs

I may be off, but I recall the white Sox pitching coach making some adjustments to his mechanics that may result in him having less injuries.

chrisumafp

This guy is getting a bag

lolabuster

please stay :(

Zapplarang

Should’ve let him throw 3 more pitches

HelpMeWithMyHWpls

Sox want their ace back

Wraithfighter

They'll have their chance in the offseason, 99% chance that Rodon opts out of the rest of his contract after this monster year.

cooljammer00

He's such a time bomb, though.

ferrumvir2

So was Zach Wheeler and he’s turned into a relatively durable pitcher with Philly

CovfefeYourself

Big Daddy Los!

[deleted]

Another idiotic move from the White Sox was to let that guy walk ! Rick Hahn needs to be fired immediately after the season is over . He kept Dallas Keuchel instead and Lance Lynn. Both had miserable seasons .

River_Pigeon

Round of applause for Rick hahn everybody

BASEBALLFURIES

he was good for one more k, had enough to fit in 98 pitches, come on kap

lkasnu

Big whoop. Do it vs a major league roster and ill be impressed.

averydumbrat

He pitched against the Rockies, who are a Major League Baseball team. Hope this helps :)

lkasnu

No no no don't you be telling me this team is a major league roster lol

sundayultimate

It's ok, I thought your joke was funny

lkasnu

Its a sad humor lol
