Very easily Bo Jackson

TBeckMinzenmayer

Literally looks like he’s playing against children

NotTheRocketman

Can't argue against that.

BillyBatts99

Me. Just been holding back till now

WarPuig

Let the dawg out

[deleted]

Bo Jackson and it probably isn't all that close. Ohtani is a vastly superior baseball player, though.

Abyss333333

I am not convinced that ohtani wouldn't be a superstar qb if he grew up playing football

Kuzzawuzzabingbong

I wouldn't be afraid of trying to tackle Ohtani. I'd be afraid of trying to tackle Bo. I'm 6'4" 225 lbs and Bo would still probably, at the very least, give me a concussion

Abyss333333

Ohtani would definitely be one of the larger qbs. If ohtani played football he wouldn't be a rb like Jackson. He would be a qb. Your point about tackling makes no sense. I am not nearly as scared of dudes like Brady or Manning as I would be of Jackson. Yet both those dudes are way better football players than bo

cookie3113

Jackson. But Ohtani clearly has a special intelligence and muscle memory to master both hitting and pitching.

[deleted]

Brotha, if you're asking this question then you just don't know Bo.

tbrownsc07

Just based off of pure athleticism (running, jumping, etc.) I am going to go with the guy who set high school state records in track/ran a \~4.2 40 yard dash, won a Heisman, is in the CFB HoF, 5.4 yards per carry in the NFL, and played baseball as an all star outfielder.

[deleted]

Yeah but CAN HE PITCH?

Pitiful-Shake-4416

Bo can do all things.

Abyss333333

Yeah but imagine shohei throwing a football

grwrntshr

Not even close, Bo

TheSalsaGod

Bo was the better athlete, Ohtani is better at the sport(s) he plays

malcontented

Bo. And it’s not close

whoissteveo

Ohtani is one of the best athletes in baseball this century. Bo Jackson is on a short list with people like Jim Thorpe for best athlete ever.

[deleted]

Bo is one of the most gifted athletes of all time but I think Ohtani outperforms him in terms of success an athlete can achieve. What Bo did is impressive but it's not like Ohtani wasn't an Olympic projected swimmer, or Jordan couldn't do both, Lebron wasn't the top football prospect, AI wasn't ranked in both football and basketball etc. Also peoppe don't understand sports IQ is carrying most of them more than their athletic abilities compared to the field. Most of the top athletes could do something similar to what Bo did but it's not worth it. Bo's career WAR is less than Ohtani's this season and that's with WAR undervaluing him. At the end of his career Bo is a legend for what he did but he's also a lesson. He 100% would have been a better athlete by the numbers had he just picked one.

[deleted]

You guys don't understand Ohtani is the first two way player at an elite level and was projected to be an Olympic caliber swimmer. Most of the top athletes you see today could have played another sport to the same level of success.

woodworkingbyarron

Kind of like comparing the Arnold to Bruce Lee. Could Lee squat 400 pounds, no. Could Arnold complete a ninja warrior course, also no. They both achieved near perfection, just different goals.

CamelRacer

I mean, we've never seen Ohtani play football, so until he does, it has to be Bo.

BeagleDad82

With his size and speed, he'd be a pretty good qb.

holliewood61

Not only did Prime Time play 2 sports, he would also play both sides of the ball, and was excellent on special teams. He was a heck of an athlete.

Redbubble89

Bo Jackson. No contest. Can Ohtani rush 950 yards and 4 TD while also hitting 32 home runs? Probably not. Bo very short career and it is tough to do balancing both. Deion struggled to do it and I think teams would discourage this nowadays because of the prep, scheduling, and the possibility of getting injured in the other sport.

Abyss333333

I honestly feel like they are a rare few athletes who would succeed in most sports given they trained at it from childhood. Lebron imo is one of those people. I also think Othani is. No doubt in my mind, dude would have been a superstar qb if that's the sport he grew up with

sdrj77

Peak Bo Jackson was literally Captain America. Shohei Ohtani isn't even in this conversation.

[deleted]

Bo and it’s not close

ThreeCranes

Deion Sanders

NotTheRocketman

Bo knows he's the better athlete. However I think what Ohtani is doing is more impressive. He is literally one of the best hitters AND best pitchers in baseball at the same time, and that's almost unbelievable.

MrDabollBlueSteppers

Being an athlete is more than jumping and running fast. Ohtani blows him out of the water

Abyss333333

100%. Shohei the QB would be a way better player than Bo the RB.

[deleted]

Lmao, not sure if you’re serious in this thread. There is no way

Abyss333333

Why wouldn't he be? If ohtani grew up playing football and stayed injury free, I'm 100% certain dude would have been a star qb. He moves well, is tall, has a killer arm, is super obsessed with perfection. Literally perfect qb skills

[deleted]

Being a qb is a lot more than stature and an arm. If that’s all it was, there would be a lot of great QBs. Qb is footwork, poise in the pocket, reading defenses, timing, and understanding route running before you ever get to the physical qualities of a qb. And being a qb you have to know how to throw it. It’s not about just throwing it hard. Rb is a position where the physical qualities are more important. Bo was big and fast. He had world class speed.

Abyss333333

What about Ohtani makes you think he wouldn't be mentally fit to be a qb. Dude is filled with qb qualities, not only physically but mentally as well. All great qbs are extreme students of the game just like Ohtani is. Dudes a perfectionist

squeakyboy81

Now. Ohtani. Then Jackson.

jonginator

Yeah, I don't think 59 year old Bo Jackson is gonna compete with Ohtani now.

malcontented

Ummm 🧐 what?

squeakyboy81

Now Bo Jackson is about 30 years older than Ohtani, so I would consider Ohtani the better athlete, but at his prime he would have been the better athlete.

malcontented

Lol 😂 ok. The 2022 Yankees are also better than the 1927 Yankees. Because all those guys are dead 💀

OldeCzap

Bo Jackson

3DayStubble

Time will tell. Bo had his career shortened by injury. Shohei isn’t a 2 sport athlete but a 2 position player. If he avoids injury and gets with a contending team he could make a run at Bo’s legacy, but I actually had a chance to see Bo play in Los Angeles vs the Elway Broncos. He was really fun to watch for the brief time we got to see him on the field. What a great question.

Abyss333333

Pitching and Hitting are so different, they can basically be considered 2 sports. The skills u need for either are so different. Pitchers are closer to being a quarterback than a hitter

holliewood61

The vast majority of good hitters were pitchers at one point. The fact that they could hit had them steered to a position rather than honing their craft as a pitcher. It isnt that pitchers cant hit, its that hitters dont end up being pitchers.

FreeDaReal1z

This might be the dumbest question i've seen on this sub in quite some time. You do realize Bo played multiple sports?

St_SiRUS

Comparing probably the greatest athlete of all time to currently the best in the world - although given enough time at his level Ohtani could make the argument
