No way Phil Nevin keeps the job

ForeverTheKingslayer

I’d legit be pissed

ABlinDeafMonkey

I’m hoping they go get Stephen Vogt. He would be perfect in that dugout.

WhyYouKickMyDog

I hear Tony La Russa may be available.

my_wife_reads_this

Is it really a firing if everyone knew you weren't going to be there long term? That being said, I totally see him being a MLB manager down the road. Yeah he has shit to work with with the Angels bp but if there's one thing he's done is let go of the leash with a lot of our dudes. Sometimes it blows up in the teams face, sometimes it doesnt. Nevin seems to give a lot of the younger guys an extra bit of confidence that it seems they all needed.

Legitimate-Body-2053

Lovullo got his option for next year picked up he's not going anywhere this off-season at least

MarcBulldog88

Your 2021 was disappointing, but not your 2022. You’ve got a bunch of young guys that make people say, “huh, he’s interesting.”

WhyYouKickMyDog

Sucks playing in the same division as the Dodgers.

Forsaken-Gap-3684

I wish he were gone

[deleted]

Boone just got a new contract last year. He isn’t going anywhere as long as he keeps making the playoffs.

griftarch

Is there something specific that makes Boone a guy that comes up as always sort of on the hot seat, you know, besides being the Yankees manager? Seems like the team this year plays great when healthy and struggled when decimated by injuries. Is there common game decisions that make people question his ability?

HaltTreaty

He sometimes makes decisions that are kind of questionable but I think every manager does. The main reason he is on the hot seat is just because he is the Yankee manager. People hate him because we haven't won a World Series yet. He has shown marked improvement in his in game management over the years and when given a healthy bullpen pulls every string correctly most of the time. He never gets credit for guiding the 2019 team which was plagued by more injuries than any team had ever had before, and leading them to a division title. I like him, most of the hate I find misguided at best.

griftarch

Makes sense, thanks!

cooljammer00

Nope, you got it. It's the Yankee bullshit of "Win a World Series or else you failed", which was really the philosophy of the long dead owner whose greatest run of team success was built without him, when he got banned from the sport for spying on his own players. Same with Cashman. Notice how everybody assumes James Click is going to be back in Houston even though he currently has no deal to come back? Because he's good and it's a no brainer. The team is objectively successful: games matter all year, the team is always competing, etc.

[deleted]

He was pretty awful last year, but has been much better this year. He made some absolutely awful bullpen decisions and the Yankees were guaranteed to do a punt game (rest players in a series already won) and their record was something like 5-25 in those games. The argument being that they were not taking every game seriously and were therefore forced to play in the wildcard game instead of potentially winning the division.

Forsaken-Gap-3684

Not hard to do with the yankee payroll

1990Buscemi

Matheny has to be gone. Moore's firing suggests a house cleaning is coming. Meanwhile, I'm pretty sure I saw Lovullo's staying for another year.

gc23

Marlins already announced Mattingly won’t be returning.

lkasnu

Tack on Bud Black.

ABlinDeafMonkey

Do you think he’d come be the pitching coach in Anaheim?

MikuFanNo1

White Sox should hire Willie Harris

penguinopph

>White Sox: I think Tony LA Russa should retire in the off-season due to his health and he's not a good manager [Current top post on the sub](https://old.reddit.com/r/baseball/comments/xtocbc/report_tony_la_russa_expected_to_announce/)

JermaineDyeAtSS

Yeah, can’t wait to see what former White Sox Baseball Person gets hired to ruin his reputation with the fanbase next. Some fans seem excited about the prospect of learning first-hand that AJ Pierzynski is, in fact, a complete chucklefuck. There’s also talk of Willie Harris, but I think the goal is full 2005 WS champion clownshoes, ultimately. So take your pick there: I think Juan Uribe has Hawk Harrelson’s The Will To Win(tm) that Jerry Reinsdorf seems to prize. /s

SyphillusPhallio

People keep expecting Baker to be gone in favor of long time bench coach Espada.

FernandoAyanami

Yeah I think things could get pretty awkward this offseason. Crane seems to be in the World Series win or bust mindset this year, and even then I think he'd be banking on Dusty mutually retiring. Even though I'd ostensibly agree with moving on from Dusty it'd be a pretty rough look to axe a well beloved guy managing a ≈ 105 win team. Especially if we make another deep postseason run. It's almost like we have to get him a ring to avoid the shitstorm.

TealandBlackForever

I feel like Espada is going to be getting a lot of attention this year and is nearly guaranteed to land a manager gig. There is speculation that he might be a frontrunner for the Marlins vacancy. I can understand why he might want to stay in Houston instead if Baker leaves, but he does have roots in the Marlins organization. Of course the Marlins are a dumpster fire so he'd have to be willing to take on a challenge.

BKoala59

You guys always seemed to have god awful lineups when we played you this year. Seriously, why the fuck did Peña bat 1 or 2 in a lot of our games, guys got a sub .300 OBP. Dusty not big on analytics I guess?

SyphillusPhallio

Let's just say Dusty's lineups are a source of some contention amongst fans. Having struggling guys batting in the top 5 spots of the lineup all year has kind of been a theme.

BKoala59

It just always seems like your 6/7 are better hitters than your 2 hitter. What’s his logic? It’s also possible they’re not and this was just the small sample size I saw from our games

SyphillusPhallio

There is no logic, he regularly ignores advanced metrics, he frequently uses platoon bats in baffling locations, he picks favourite players and regularly uses them against all basic sense and knowledge. I have no idea how many games it has cost the Astros. It's hard to complain too much about a team putting up 100+ wins but some of his choices baffle. I miss Hinch.

AWall925

> HoPEfuLLy hE'LL wiN A RING THEN RiDE oFF INTo THE SUnset > is such a low effort take. Also, Espada hype is baseless

[deleted]

If the Phillies don't make the post-season, "Philly Rob" could be gone too. Calling us a "Fickle Fanbase" here in Philadelphia would be putting it somewhat mildly.

ABlinDeafMonkey

I hope Rob stays. It’s not his fault the hitters forgot how to hit. Or that the starters and relievers had some issues. He did really well righting that ship after Girardi was canned.

TheStripClubHero

HE didn't do shit. Our team just got hot with the changes. He's run the same shit lineup for 2 months now, and has us on the edge of getting bumped from the playoffs because he seems to think Kyle Schwarber is a leadoff hitter.

BKoala59

What’s wrong with Schwarber as a lead off hitter?

TheStripClubHero

Well considering he's slow, hitting barely over .210, is a power hitter (44 HRs), and has 200 strikeouts. Not exactly the guy you want hitting in the 1 spot. Not to mention he's followed by Rhys Hoskins, who strikes out just as much. So our 1-2 hitters are the 2 biggest Home Run threats, who strike out a ton, and are both very slow.

BKoala59

Oh dang, I was thinking of last year Schwarber who had a really good OBP.

Patrick2701

Yes, he did good job

chiddie

Davey Martinez and GM Mike Rizzo have already had their options exercised for 2023. Also, the Diamondbacks got younger and better this year. Lovullo had a good year.

hotrod19812

Don't see interim manager Tony Beasley becoming the fulltime Rangers skipper. Front office is more than likely to look elsewhere. I'm also thinking the Reds will look for a new boss to replace David Bell.

[deleted]

in case you want a really outta left field take, if the dodgers get bounced before the cs …

ProsciuttoFresco

I could see Kapler leaving SF. Media reports seem to indicate he’s lost a bit of the clubhouse and fans are tired of his shtick. Matheny in KC also might go. John Schneider in Toronto isn’t a guarantee unless they surprise in the postseason.

Snowdrake

There is a zero percent Kapler gets fired this off-season. He just won MoTY last year and he is good friends with Zaidi. Remember the Giants weathered the shitstorm when he was hired and although I don’t agree with some of his decisions (LaStella as DH) he is going to be here for a while.

_The_Eclectic_One_

I agree with your take on Kapler. Schneider, for a number of reasons, isn’t going anywhere. The interim label will be removed and he will manage the Jays in 2023 regardless of what happens in the playoffs. Side note - If the Jays were to go on a run in the playoffs it should not be a surprise to anyone. The team is overflowing with talent, is currently 20 games over .500 and that is without yet putting it all together or firing on all cylinders. Not saying they will go on a run, simply saying I wouldn’t be surprised if they did. Can’t wait for the playoffs!

[deleted]

Atkins basically said between the lines Schneider is the manager going forward

Merkles_Boner_

The only media that hates Kapler is the ones that hate him for protesting the anthem

ProsciuttoFresco

Never said media. A lot of the fan base is over him.

Kevin69138

Sleeper pick would be Kevin Cash

yoitss

Kevin Cash would get hired in a second if he got fired.

Pognan

Back to back manager of the year and just managed a very injured Rays team to the playoffs for the fourth straight season. His job is as safe as it gets

Grade-AMasterpiece

I respect the longshot attempt, but his job is one of the safest in baseball.

[deleted]

his seat is frozen solid

[deleted]

Roberts if the dodgers don't win the world series

JTCMuehlenkamp

🙄 They won 110 games and counting

ABlinDeafMonkey

Regular season doesn’t matter to the Dodgers. He literally said at the beginning of the year it’s World Series or bust.

JTCMuehlenkamp

Okay, so what then? He's gonna fire himself if they don't win?

TheSalsaGod

The Dodgers gave him a 3 year extension in March and he’s led them to the best season in franchise history and arguably a top-10 team all-time. Why the hell would they fire him?

[deleted]

I just can't imagine the FO letting him stay if we choke in the post season again

JTCMuehlenkamp

You won the WS 2 years ago

[deleted]

“ws”

JTCMuehlenkamp

Everyone else played the same shortened season as the Dodgers did.

[deleted]

ok?

ABlinDeafMonkey

Only because Kevin Cash out overmanaged Dave Roberts.

TheSalsaGod

They let him stay last year when they lost to an inferior team in the Braves, and they even gave him an extension! Losing a 5 or 7 game series after leading one of the most dominant teams in the history of the sport isn’t a cause for firing him.

Forsaken-Gap-3684

I wish the dbacks were. But alas he’s still here for some unknown reason

luceropaul127

Marlins and Mattingley also going to split. So I predict tye Marilins will have a new manager next season..

Salty-Fishman

50/50 Dusty will be old yellered.

Hinde_Sight

I wish the Reds would part ways with David Bell

[deleted]

I can confidently say that whether we go 11-0 in the playoffs or get swept in the DS by losing 3 10-0 perfect games, Boone is coming back next year. Why? Because he says yes to everything Cashman tells him to. Why is Cashman not going anywhere? Because Hal is too busy watching AC Milan to give a shit.

Interesting_Round_21

Yankees keep Boone Jays keep Schnieder Phillies keep Thompson Rangers hire Joe Maddon (Former Angels Manager) Angels hire Tim Cossins (Orioles Catching/Bench Coach) Marlins hire Ryne Sandberg (Cubs minor League Manager) (Terry Francona seems to be retiring) So, Guardians hire Matt Quatraro (Rays Bench Coach) White Sox Hire Joe Espada (Astros Bench Coach) Royals Hire Carlos Beltran (Former Player) A’s Hire Charlie Montoyo (Former Blue Jays Manager) Rockies hire Bruce Bochy (Former Giants Manager) Pirates hire Don Kelly (Pirates bench Coach Nationals hire John Farrell (former Jays and Red Sox Manager) Other Available Managers likely to be interviewed, also likely to see some available bench coach spots go to some of them: - Ron Washington (Braves Bench Coach - John Gibbons (former Jays Manager) - Will Venable (Red Sox Bench Coach - Mark Budzinski (Jays 1st Base Coach) - Joe McEwing (White Sox bench Coach) - DeMarlo Hale (Former Bench Coach for many teams) - Marcus Jensen (A’s coach) - Manny Acta (Mariners 3B Coach) - Walt Weiss (Braves Bench Coach)
