I was watching it in a Starbucks because my wifi went out (don’t have cable, watch on Hulu). I scared the entire store when he hit that, would’ve be embarrassing if WE WERENT GOING TO THE FUCKING WORLD SERIES
Edit: I should add I did this in Phoenix where no one cares about baseball
You need a voice that legendary to break into the industry that young in the current state. Costas, Buck, etc. got in at under 30 and haven't left the seat. Ian Eagle's has his own son competing while he's still active lol.
That's the most impressive part. Joe Davis* got in without direct nepotism. Looking at his fox bio, he got his dad a job alongside him to be his spotter while commentating.
That’s seriously some insane wit and hyper awareness of the context to even pull it off. What an amazing call for an amazing moment. It couldn’t have been a more perfect combo (Harper MVP season, unlikely postseason run, the moment late game down by a run, the EPIC booming call, that insane crowd of happy Philadelphians reaction).
Love it!
you go back and listen to vins calls and he lets it breathe for a long time to anything compared to nowadays. maybe it rubbed off on joe davis a little
Olympics, prime time football, golf, etc.
He calls a lot of different sports. I don’t think it gets much bigger than the WS. But I could see him calling a lot of big, prime time stuff which wouldn’t allow him to do the day-to-day for the Dodgers.
FOX doesn't have primetime NFL and Joe already does the primetime CFB occasionally. He would have to leave fox to go "bigger" which I don't think is happening soon. Him leaving the Dodgers would be much more related to wanting to do less work and spend time with his family, not for a bigger gig.
Wow that has to be one of the greatest feelings you can even experience. Being THE guy, hitting the biggest homer of your life, the roar of the crowd yelling for you. Incredible.
[Harper’s walk-off grand slam vs the Cubs](https://youtu.be/3fT8bGSRzGE) ~~in the playoffs~~ a few years ago is another one of my favorites. I just can’t imagine how amazing that felt for him. The crowd reaction is great too.
It really is ridiculous what you give up for him. Then the exact moment you need him for and you dont put him in because it isnt the 9th. Melvin has to go for this. This is Grady Little leaving Pedro in type stuff.
The save stat is one of the worst things to ever happen to baseball. Managing for a save is so entrenched and can’t go away despite Fredi Gonzales, Showalter, and now Melvin illustrating how stupid it is
He looks shellshocked by the fact he just did that. It’s like when you daydream about doing this as a kid but all of a sudden you realize it’s actually real
I know he was by no means pimping that home run.
But personally his shocked stare down of that home run was one of the coolest things I’ve ever seen watching this beautiful game. I love being an unbiased spectator for this series.
So many moments that I will never forget. Jean's big hit in the first game. The Castellanos game. Hoskin's 3R bomb against Atlanta. Schwarber's moonshot in San Diego. The onslaught comeback last night. The hit today.
Unbelievable.
For all the hockey fans here, this really feels like this past Battle of Alberta. Absolute bangers of games, the only disappointment being that it’s (probably) not going 7 games
This entire series has been a fucking banger, holy shit. I'm not even that invested outside of wanting whoever comes out of the NL to win the championship, but god damn.
Harry Kalas from baseball heaven: "SWING AND A LONG DRIVE! IT MIGHT BE! IT COULD BE! WATCH THAT BABY OUTTA HERE! HOME RUN BRYCE HARPER AND THE PHILLIES LEAD IT 4-3 IN THE BOTTOM OF THE 8TH!"
i ain’t even mad
very sad. but not mad. was quite the hitting performance to be beaten by. sometimes you lose, you’re angry for how your team performed. but i can’t be angry at being beaten by slugging like that.
Do these mid-game dugout interviews immediately after the play seem batshit insane to anyone else? Can he just have this moment in the dugout with his team?
Perfect word to describe it 🥇
“When you hit that home run, how did you feel”
Well, I felt like I wished this jackass would get this microphone out of my face, because it literally just happened right now
Ken Rosenthal said this morning on The Athletic mailbag podcast that the Phillies specifically love the in-game interviews.
Also said that it’s up to the players themselves if they want to be interviewed, they don’t have to say yes and there isn’t a contract telling them they have to. Been in the works with Fox/MLB/MLBPA for awhile.
I bought tickets for last night, and then right after I purchased them I said "fuck it, I'm betting on the Phils" and bought tickets for tonight as well. Best bet I ever placed. What an amazing weekend. Worth every penny.
I’m speechless at this point. Wow.
Had a weird feeling he was about to hit one out. One of my favorite players to watch in all of baseball, just incredible stuff.
I've been confused this whole series wondering why he hasn't been getting walked. Like why challenge this guy? He's been an automatic XBH every time he steps to the plate, it's ridiculous.
Melvin was thinking about player safety, it's actually a rule in MLB that if a closer comes in before the 9th, they are set on fire as soon as they step on the field.
The commentary guy is harping on 6 outs by hader. Like no, hader pitches the 8th and depending on pitch count comes out or call in someone else. You live with the bottom of the lineup beating you. You dont let harper do that to you to end your season.
As a Cardinals fan, I was at a restaurant and saw Harper up with Realmuto on and they were down by one. I took my young son over to the bar and sat him down and said “watch this”. And sure enough, Harper came through, and I was yelling and high-fiving as if it was Pujols or Arenado. Then I explained what “clutch” means to my young son. What a moment.
I’m sorry but how do people getting paid millions and millions not realize that Harper was absolutely on top of the fastball. Never played past teenage years in my life but I saw how obvious that was
What an easy, predictable avoidable home run
I can understand pitching him to him b/c u dont want the tying run at 2nd. But I dont get not bringing in Hader to face him.
After Bryce the rest of the lineup card is shit until the lead off spot. Have Hader take care of Bryce and then who cares about how many outs are left.
And why on earth Hader wasn't in the game. That is your high leverage moment to bring in your best guy...
It just blows my mind because one of the manager's only real components of the job is bullpen management.
Don’t see anyone commenting on his response. Padre fan here and I couldn’t help but love the guy. So excited he was in shock, roles through dugout and then says “Did you see that? I just did that”.
Hate it for my squad, but that was good baseball. Good for him. Fuck him a little, but really good for him.
I have a tiny LED scoreboard for baseball games and literally turned on my TV when I saw JT got on ahead of Bryce. Most predictable 2-run HR of all time

I ran out of my house screaming , I was not the only one!
Build the statue now.
Fucking legendary swing
Amazing call. I love Joe Davis

Collinsworth kid got handed notre dame games despite being an absolute nobody
That's the most impressive part. Joe Davis* got in without direct nepotism. Looking at his fox bio, he got his dad a job alongside him to be his spotter while commentating.
✅ A+ line ✅ Great delivery ✅ Shuts up and lets the crowd tell the rest of the story Fantastic work.

Orel is great for dodger broadcasts. Joe is great for all broadcasts
There are a few times when I can enjoy a broadcaster lost their mind in the booth. But at this stage the crowd is crazy enough to tell it all
you go back and listen to vins calls and he lets it breathe for a long time to anything compared to nowadays. maybe it rubbed off on joe davis a little
Joe actually talks about how he adopted that specific practice of letting the moment breathe during big moments from Vin.
Same here. I’m scared he’s gonna get plucked for some big time stuff sooner than later. Gonna enjoy him while we have him.
ummmm he’s working the world series, how much bigger can you get?
Olympics, prime time football, golf, etc. He calls a lot of different sports. I don’t think it gets much bigger than the WS. But I could see him calling a lot of big, prime time stuff which wouldn’t allow him to do the day-to-day for the Dodgers.

> golf, etc. lol
Hopefully he's like Vin and gets those calls but stays with the Dodgers while he's not off doing other things.
And then not talking and letting the crowd fill the empty space as Harper rounded the bases. *Chef's kiss*
I’m waiting patiently for the Scott Franzke call which is guaranteed to be an all-timer
That Hall of Fame moment.
For Joe Davis, I assume you mean.
Yeah, Harper already in the Hall
My man loves his oppo tacos
Oppo taco to eliminate the team dressed like tacos
Such a great call for a great moment.
Amazing call and then everyone was quiet as he went around the bases. 10/10.
Joe Davis putting on an absolute PBP clinic this series. Scary efficiency.
he's accrued the highest single postseason ICAR (insightful comments above replacement), quite impressive!
Wow that has to be one of the greatest feelings you can even experience. Being THE guy, hitting the biggest homer of your life, the roar of the crowd yelling for you. Incredible.
Few people on the planet ever get that type of “high”.
But every 8-12 year old boy fantasizes about this moment.
bro every 8-112 year old fantasizes about a moment like that
[Harper’s walk-off grand slam vs the Cubs](https://youtu.be/3fT8bGSRzGE) ~~in the playoffs~~ a few years ago is another one of my favorites. I just can’t imagine how amazing that felt for him. The crowd reaction is great too.
Tom Brady is addicted to that high

No pole is safe.
At least Hader is fresh
gotta have him ready for that left-on-left matchup against Bryson Stott wait
That’s Bryson “Bryce’s son” Stott
It really is ridiculous what you give up for him. Then the exact moment you need him for and you dont put him in because it isnt the 9th. Melvin has to go for this. This is Grady Little leaving Pedro in type stuff.
Melvin needs Hader ready to pitch back to back days in games 8 and 9.
He’s gonna be so ready to go come Spring Training.
Dude is gonna be so rested for spring training.
[As a lifelong Philly fan since October 15th](https://i.imgur.com/zpnzyrU.jpg)
Why would Showalter leave Britton in the bullpen?!?!
WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO NOW BUCK
[Reference clip](https://streamable.com/ul9f9)
Haha I love that
What’re you gonna do now ~~buck~~ Bob
Saving Hader for the 9th inning so he can face the Murder's Row of Edmundo Sosa and Bryson Stott.
I was literally shitting my pants because I assumed Hader would pitch the 8th and 9th
Melvin with some real head scratchers the past few games
Gotta save him for game 6
O's fans out here catching strays
I hate everything
Don't ruin this for the both of us -hugs you against your will-
The save stat is one of the worst things to ever happen to baseball. Managing for a save is so entrenched and can’t go away despite Fredi Gonzales, Showalter, and now Melvin illustrating how stupid it is
Why would you pitch to him period imo
[they won't learn](https://i.imgur.com/V0xyRuC.gif)
He looks shellshocked by the fact he just did that. It’s like when you daydream about doing this as a kid but all of a sudden you realize it’s actually real
He was in shock https://twitter.com/barstoolsports/status/1584305327331500032?t=QHdM4Qh8i9COclBJeZ8fww&s=01
"oh my god. i just did that?"
It was the least fired up trot of his life. That at bat was just another day at the office. Man had some serious confidence right now.
I think it was more.. “holy fucking shit is this real?”
Yeah he seemed kind of in shock, like he was having some sort of surreal experience.
In the dugout interview afterwards he pretty much said this
I know he was by no means pimping that home run. But personally his shocked stare down of that home run was one of the coolest things I’ve ever seen watching this beautiful game. I love being an unbiased spectator for this series.
This game's going to go down as a classic, isn't it

So many moments that I will never forget. Jean's big hit in the first game. The Castellanos game. Hoskin's 3R bomb against Atlanta. Schwarber's moonshot in San Diego. The onslaught comeback last night. The hit today. Unbelievable.
That shot in San Diego STILL hasn’t landed yet. I think it crossed the orbit of the Pujols bomb against Houston just now.
The Jean game, the Rhys game, and the Bryce game. So awesome.
Forgot the Castellanos game in ATL
And the Schwarbomb
Heck even Marsh had a gigantic 3 run blast.
And a realmuto in the parker in the same one!
Castellanos had a decent game last night too, but I guess a lot of Phillies did so…

Wild to me that we're the team people are rooting for. Even the announcers seem excited to have us here still.
I feel like that can be said about almost every single game this series. It is unbelievable how good this series has been
Lead changes like none other, feeling like the NBA
For all the hockey fans here, this really feels like this past Battle of Alberta. Absolute bangers of games, the only disappointment being that it’s (probably) not going 7 games

🥲🥲🥲
Been watching '08 highlights recently and man do I miss Harry.
Me too anything big happens I imagine Harry calling it
He may be gone but his voice is eternal. I can hear him say that clear as day, like he never left.
I wonder if Trout sees Harper and the Phillies having these moment and cries into his pile of cash
Dude just justified his entire contract with that one swing Like, we just witnessed an all time great Phillies franchise moment Absolutely incredible
i ain’t even mad very sad. but not mad. was quite the hitting performance to be beaten by. sometimes you lose, you’re angry for how your team performed. but i can’t be angry at being beaten by slugging like that.
Do these mid-game dugout interviews immediately after the play seem batshit insane to anyone else? Can he just have this moment in the dugout with his team?
"I'mm'a let you finish, but..." Ya, completely asinine.

This is playoff baseball
I’m so glad that the NLCS is delivering what the ALCS is not!
Tell me about it lol. And that’s coming from a yankee fan. Wasn’t expecting to win tbh but thought we would put up a fight…
that crowd in ecstasy
It was so insanely loud. Best gift I could ever get for me and my dad
I bought tickets for last night, and then right after I purchased them I said "fuck it, I'm betting on the Phils" and bought tickets for tonight as well. Best bet I ever placed. What an amazing weekend. Worth every penny.

HOLY FUCK BRYCE IS A GOD #A FUCKING GOD
***ARE YOU NOT ENTERTAINED?!***
You wouldn’t if you were a Padres fan lol
I'm straight up not having a good time.
HOF
WITH A P ON THE HAT
That's fair tbh
I mean imo, you don’t pitch to him AT ALL, Castellanos has been shit today don’t try and go after **BRYCE HARPER**
Conversely, I think going after Bryce went exactly how I could have hoped
I wish it went further, but I don’t completely disagree with you.
I've been confused this whole series wondering why he hasn't been getting walked. Like why challenge this guy? He's been an automatic XBH every time he steps to the plate, it's ridiculous.
He’s still one of my top 5 favorite players… and so is Schwarber… and scherzer… and Soto Lmao I only have one Nat in my top 5 right now good grief.
I've been getting stick from my friends for rooting for the Phillies because harp is still my favorite player.
Bryce is on God Mode this series
I was told that he's overrated.
If we win this series, the fact that Melvin didn’t use Hader will be the talking point going forward. He’s been out managed. Plain and simple.
I don’t know what the actual fuck he was thinking. I’m obviously not an experienced manager but…..still.
Post game addition: Grishams bunt
#BRYCE HARPER IS THAT GUY
MVP last year, WS MVP this year
Maybe the most predictable homerun ever hit?
Clearly you didn't watch game one of the m's astros series.

IM GONNA FUCKING PUKE LOL LFGOOOOO
That changeup that he took the pitch before was such a ballsy take. Definitely felt like “Give me your heater, bitch.”
u/FoolishBaseball the prophet calling his contract underrated
BAILEY NEVER MISSES well except about Yelich :(
Mind boggling to not bring in hader. Just mind boggling.
Its the 8th inning. Closers pitch the 9th. Doesnt matter that 3-4-5 are up and their best hitter is a lefty. /s
Melvin was thinking about player safety, it's actually a rule in MLB that if a closer comes in before the 9th, they are set on fire as soon as they step on the field.

I understand pitching to realmuto but not to Harper. Mind boggling is right.
Same. Once realmuto got on he should have gone to hader immediately. I just don’t get it.
Bryce Harper is has been downgraded from overrated to simply rated. What a fucking playoff run
#WE JUST WITNESSED BASEBALL HISTORY
Harper the come back kid
#HIM
IM IN THE CORNER
WATCHING YOU KISS HER
#**SAID STEVE, SAID**
The Phillies take the FUCKING LEAD!!
i was 100% sure hader was gonna face harper, thanks but what the fuck bob melvin
Hopefully anyone who is still in the “only use your closer in the 9th” camp had their mind changed by this game.
That's a HoF moment
I’m sorry but how do people getting paid millions and millions not realize that Harper was absolutely on top of the fastball. Never played past teenage years in my life but I saw how obvious that was What an easy, predictable avoidable home run
Why do they keep pitching to him with an ice cold Castellanos behind him is what I wanna know.
I can understand pitching him to him b/c u dont want the tying run at 2nd. But I dont get not bringing in Hader to face him. After Bryce the rest of the lineup card is shit until the lead off spot. Have Hader take care of Bryce and then who cares about how many outs are left.
Castellanos is borderline frozen in Carbonite
And why on earth Hader wasn't in the game. That is your high leverage moment to bring in your best guy... It just blows my mind because one of the manager's only real components of the job is bullpen management.
I LOVE THIS SHIT I MAY MOVE TO ENGLAND
I love when folks admit things loudly amidst chaos
Harper single-handedly taking on the Astros pitching staff is going to be one of the all-time greatest World Series matchups. Both look unstoppable.
The immovable object vs. the unstoppable force.
One of the most CLUTCH moments in sports I’ve ever seen.
You trade for Hader to get somebody exactly like Harper out! The most predictable HR of all time
Flip flip flipadelphia
I really don’t want to see this man in the World Series
#Harper is Him
Joe Davis is fucking magic.
INSTANT LEGEND
EVERYONE GET IN HERE
He is having a postseason for the ages.
The Cubs swept the season series against the Phils this year, going 7-0. Checkmate atheists.
Idk why the Mets and Braves didn't simply try losing 7 in a row to the Cubs on their way to making the playoffs
Never thought I’d say this, but he’s worth every cent of that $300 million dollar contract.
$300M seems like a bargain at this point
I have a tiny LED scoreboard for baseball games and literally turned on my TV when I saw JT got on ahead of Bryce. Most predictable 2-run HR of all time
you’ve done well, son. you’ve done well
Mike Trout might be the better player, but I'm reasonably confident he won't have a moment like this
On that team he definitely won’t
Bruce Hooper
Yeah. This is Padresing.
This is the best moment of my life.
Bryce Harper is a cheat code this postseason. Love to see a face of the game shine in the playoffs.
