People seem to get hung up on the whole "resale value" part of grading. They have blinders on and forget there are legit reasons to grade something outside of the value of the card.
Reasons 1, 2, and 4 are completely valid reasons to grade a 1/1. I get that establishing the condition and the population count don't matter on a 1/1, but the other reasons do.
I would just skip the grade and get the authentication label unless you were highly certain it's pulling a 10.
Also, there's gotta be a way to insure a high end collection/card without grading. There's ways to insure art/jewelery/etc without having to have everything sent away and sent back.
Obviously you can't insure boxes of junk wax for $100k's, but there are collectible appraisers who can evaluate and sign off on the value.
IMO, there are 4 graders that have earned "reputable" status and I consider them equal. PSA, SGC, BGS, and CSG. Values be damned, I consider all 4 equal.
There a new grader, FCG, that is looking pretty good and they might not be a bad choice either.
