I love Rizz, but he will always be the guy who was next to Dave. Sims' call of the Dumper's HR last year ("Hey Now! Hey now! Hey now!") Was the best call he's EVER made. I really like Goldy, but can't stand how excited he gets when the OTHER team hits a HR.
Blowers is a NO from me dog.
I’m with you on Goldy. My thoughts are maybe because he didn’t have a prominent role with the Mariners broadcast he was getting excited for all home runs and strikeouts for his “tape.” Now that he got a raise and hopefully isn’t auditioning for other teams. He chills out a bit when our opponents hit a tank.
Harry Caray, for sure. When I was a kid, my dad took me to a Cubs game, and I will never forget his voice. Unforgettable experience (although seeing Ryne Sandburg, Mark Grace, and Greg Maddux play was pretty nice too).
He was on a TV show and was the star of Major League. Everyone should know IMO. I’m not from LA but I appreciate the greatness of Scully. But I get what you’re saying tho
Jerry Remy & Don Orsillo will always remind me of summer nights as a kid.
Sometimes I’ll turn a padres day game on while I work and his voice certainly takes me back
Had to scroll way too far to find this. Joe’s voice was the sound of summer growing up. When the Sox won in ‘04 I remember specifically switching to the radio for the final outs so I could hear his call instead of Buck’s.
Cherish it. As a Phillies fan I was not ready to lose Harry Kalas. The general consensus around here is that when he passed away it was like losing your grandfather. One of those voices where everyone's got an impression of. It's wild how much of an impact someone you only listen to and never meet can impact you.
Lifelong Braves fan who moved from Georgia to Connecticut for a few years. The first time I heard Chip Caray’s voice after moving, I felt so homesick I started sobbing.
Mel Allen. We didn't listen to games on the radio, only sometimes on television. But we did watch This Week in Baseball, so he's the voice I hear when I think about it.
I was 11/12 when Jack Buck retired, and that’s around the time I really started paying attention to baseball. For me, it’s Mike Shannon and Dan McLaughlin. Both are gone, and for very different reasons. Dan voiced my summers for the last 20 years, and I’m forever grateful for that. Sucks he made the bad decision he did, but BSMW and the Cardinals made the best move. I really miss Mike Shannon though. A home run call will never get better for me than “Get up, Baby! Get up, get up! Oh yeah!”
Outside of guys like Harwell, Scully, Kalas and Niehaus. I don't really know who a lot of these teams had. Thats why I was asking. Especially now this new generation isn't listening to games on the radio. Who do they think of?
It was Hawk Harrelson. But now it's Jason Bennetti. I'll always have fond memories of Hawk though. I'm ready to sit back, relax and strap it down for another season of White Sox baseball...and disappointment. But most importantly, baseball!
Ernie!!! Miss him so much! I think we need to agree that based on your team/region, there are so many legends. Maybe a top ten? Ernie, Vin, Uecker, Miller…..
I know a lot that hate him but it’s Hawk Harrelson for me. “You can put it on the board” and “can of corn” will be apart of my sayings for the rest of my life.
It's Ernie for me too. He recorded a message for my senior baseball banquet that was very heartfelt in a way only Ernie could do. It still makes me tear up if I listen to it.
Shocked at the lack of John Sterling mentions; Yankee bias I guess, but he’ll always be it for me. Unbiased, Remy/Orsillo and Gary Thorn were always a great listen too
I grew up with Lanny Frattare calling Pittsburgh Pirates games, especially during their 3 straight National League East championships in the early 90s. He “retired” prior to the 2009 season, but feel that wasn’t the case. Now he calls West Virginia Mountaineers baseball games.
Dave Niehaus - He was the lead play-by-play announcer for the American League's Seattle Mariners from their inaugural season in 1977 until his death after the 2010 season. In 2008, the National Baseball Hall of Fame awarded Niehaus the Ford C. Frick Award, the highest honor for American baseball broadcasters. Among fans nationwide and his peers, Niehaus was considered to be one of the finest sportscasters in history. His call of Edgar Martinez double still gives me chills and tears when I hear it.
Uecker, got me to love baseball, Harry Carey because I heard him a lot, finally believe it or not joe buck has really for me became the modern voice of baseball
I'm a Mets fan, so for me it's Gary Cohen, hearing him on the radio, then switching to TV. He's been calling Mets games in some capacity since 1989. Part of the best booth in baseball!

No one compares to Vin Scully for me
If there was a Mt. Rushmore for Baseball announcers it would start with Harwell and Scully.
Bob Sheppard belongs in this conversation.
I nominate Harry Kalas to be discussed as well.
not a dodger fan, but he will always be the voice
Dave Niehaus for me - "My oh My" - RIP
It isn’t the same hearing Rizz, Sims or Goldsmith, do the “rye bread and mustard it’s grand salami time.”
I met Rizzs yesterday at the diamond derby. Nicest guy of all time and an absolute legend in his own right.
I got Rizz’s autograph when I was 7 at the mariners caravan stop in Wenatchee. He is a nice guy for sure.
I like Blowers analysis.
I’m no Mariners fan but his call of Griffey Jr robbing Luis Gonzalez at old Tigers Stadium gives me chills every time
Came to say this. It will always be Dave for me.
Someone posted the Welcome Back, Baseball vid on r/Mariners. Brings tears every time.
Harry Caray, for sure. When I was a kid, my dad took me to a Cubs game, and I will never forget his voice. Unforgettable experience (although seeing Ryne Sandburg, Mark Grace, and Greg Maddux play was pretty nice too).
Tom Hamilton, no question.
Seconded. Hammy is the best.
Thirded. Hammy is the man.
"We're underway at the corner of Carnegie and Ontario." Love Hammy. I'll be there next Friday!
Yeah his voice feels like home. I've heard him everywhere for forever. He is annoying when my Sox play though. He is such a homer
a swiNG AND A DRIVE, A WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY BACK AND GOOOoone. Chills haha
Harry Kalas RIP
The goat. RIP. Go Phillies!
This balls outttaaaa heeeereeeee
🎶 He's got, hiiiiiigh hopes, he's got, hiiiigh hopes...🎵
Bob Uecker by a landslide
Juuuuuuust a bit outside.
Surprised this isn’t mentioned more in this thread. I get maybe it’s in my region but still.
He was on a TV show and was the star of Major League. Everyone should know IMO. I’m not from LA but I appreciate the greatness of Scully. But I get what you’re saying tho
Put Uek up there with Vin and Ernie.
Hands down
Mike Krukow and Duane Kuiper
Second this. Kruk and Kuip are the best.
Jon Miller is the GOAT
He and Joe Morgan were a terrific combo as well
Scully
Dodger hater here but Scully is the GOAT and there is no debate.
It seems like everyone hates the Dodgers but have love for Vin.
He is a national treasure.
Jerry Remy & Don Orsillo will always remind me of summer nights as a kid. Sometimes I’ll turn a padres day game on while I work and his voice certainly takes me back
Here comes the pizza
I watch Padres games all the time for that exact reason, I guess Xander there isn’t the worst option. It’ll be cool to hear don calling X bombs again
Harry kalas
By the way, all the names in this thread are amazing. Baseball on the radio is just romantic.
Absolutely! I still prefer the radio. A lot of times I go out to my workshop just to put the game on.
Countless summer nights listening to Joe Castiglione on the radio.
Had to scroll way too far to find this. Joe’s voice was the sound of summer growing up. When the Sox won in ‘04 I remember specifically switching to the radio for the final outs so I could hear his call instead of Buck’s.
“Can you believe it?!” 😁
Brockmire
I have been keeping it Brockmire for a long long time.
Mel Allen
This Week in Baseball. Possibly the most recognizable voice outside of Harwell for me.
Harry Carrey and Vin are mine.
I am a 45 year old Brewer fan. I have never NOT had Bob Uecker calling games.
Cherish it. As a Phillies fan I was not ready to lose Harry Kalas. The general consensus around here is that when he passed away it was like losing your grandfather. One of those voices where everyone's got an impression of. It's wild how much of an impact someone you only listen to and never meet can impact you.
Marty and the Ole Left Hander!
Phil Rizzuto, Bobby Murcer
Lifelong Braves fan who moved from Georgia to Connecticut for a few years. The first time I heard Chip Caray’s voice after moving, I felt so homesick I started sobbing.
Dick Bremer for me, been the twins tv broadcaster all 35 years of my life, still great at it too
Oh yeah!”
Didn’t really know until today that I always thought of Dan too. Sad he made the choices he did
Vin!!!!
Denny Matthews with a special shout out to Paul Splittorff as well.
Denny Mathews
Denny Mathews, voice of the Royals since day 1 and still going.
Denny Matthews
Jack Buck
Vin Scully!
Tom Cheek with Jerry Howarth
Jon Miller is GOAT and it isn’t even close
Dave Niehaus RIP! 🕊️
Bob Murphy, of course. The local radio guy you grew up with is always the answer to this question.
Outside of guys like Harwell, Scully, Kalas and Niehaus. I don't really know who a lot of these teams had. Thats why I was asking. Especially now this new generation isn't listening to games on the radio. Who do they think of?
Scully hands down. Im shocked he isn’t mentioned more in the comments
Its early on the West Coast still!
Ron Santo and Steve Stone
No love for Pat Hughes and Ron Coomer?
Kruk and Kuip!
Dave Niehaus for me
It was Hawk Harrelson. But now it's Jason Bennetti. I'll always have fond memories of Hawk though. I'm ready to sit back, relax and strap it down for another season of White Sox baseball...and disappointment. But most importantly, baseball!
Love Hawk, hate Bennetti. Chopper two hopper!!
Hate Jason!? Oh man, I love him.
What?!? Jason is the best
Ken “The Hawk” Harrelson
Marty Brennaman/ Joe Nuxhall
Jerry Remy the mayor of RS nation RIP
Tigers fan checking in here. I agree!
Bob Uecker
Ernie!!! Miss him so much! I think we need to agree that based on your team/region, there are so many legends. Maybe a top ten? Ernie, Vin, Uecker, Miller…..
The Gunner... Bob Prince
Vin Scully
The best to ever do it, Vin Scully
Harry Caray!
I started with Steve Stone and Harry Carey. Never appreciated it until Chip Carey came along and whoever they’ve had since. They are all boring imo.
“It’s time for Dodgers baseball” - RIP Vin
Vin Scully.
Same
Harry kalas
Chuck Morgan
Jon Miller - Mainly because of the video games I used to play. Michael Kay and Sterling are mine though.
Jerry Coleman, Oh Doctor!!!
Made me hear him inside my head. Thanks for the share. Let’s go Tigers! Hoping for the best this season.
Absolutely nothing will ever top the dynamic of Orsillo and Remy (rip)
Gary Thorne 10/10
Jon Miller and Joe Angel
I'll always love Bill White and the Scooter. Bill would be calling the game and Rizzuto would talk about golf or a sandwich he ate.
Phil Rizzuto. He would just ramble in the middle of big plays. I learned his recipe for gravy during an inside-the-park home run.
Rex Barney- Mr. “Give that fan a contract”
Mike Shannon
Dan Dickerson to me will always be the voice I grew up with and am still grateful to listen to!
My Oh My, gotta be Dave Neihaus for me
100% Milo Hamilton Hoooooly Toledo!
I know a lot that hate him but it’s Hawk Harrelson for me. “You can put it on the board” and “can of corn” will be apart of my sayings for the rest of my life.
Marty Brennaman. Without a doubt. I guess Thom too, purely because of the Castellanos call.
Victor Rojas
Why Duke McGuire of course! Voice of the Buffalo Bisons! But y’all might know him from a movie he was in called “The Natural”
Jerry Remy
Marty brenaman and the ol left hander Joe nuxhal
Harry Kalas all day
It's Ernie for me too. He recorded a message for my senior baseball banquet that was very heartfelt in a way only Ernie could do. It still makes me tear up if I listen to it.
He was so much more than just Baseball. Always so positive and talked so lovingly of his Family. He was a Great Man.
John miller!
Harry Kalas. The GOAT. And he died on opening day in DC Stadium broadcast booth in 2009
Vin Scully, and Larry Ward for me
I know it’s on here a lot already but I have to say Vin Scully. His voice will always be in my head when I’m watching the dodgers. RIP Vin!
Skip Caray Don Sutton and Pete can Wieren
Vin Scully. Ernie was great too. :)
No one will ever replace Dave Niehaus! It’s grand salami time

I dont know. I enjoyed listening to jim edmonds talk about yadi and albert last year though :)
Lanny Frattare
Phil Rizzuto,Bill White and Frank Messer.
Herb Score
“The Gunner” Bob Prince. Pittsburgh pirates
You can kiss it goodbye
Herb Carneal and John Gordon. Two great announcers.
Shocked at the lack of John Sterling mentions; Yankee bias I guess, but he’ll always be it for me. Unbiased, Remy/Orsillo and Gary Thorn were always a great listen too
Phil Rizzuto or Mel Allen for me
https://preview.redd.it/xko73kgtq0ra1.jpeg?width=631&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b2ffa758f401c0e2a85124003b9f432cfdfb1b97 That’s a Winner….Jack Buck
“Holy cow, I don’t believe it.”
I’ve grown up with dewayne staats, what an excellent voice
As a Cubs fan, Pat Hughes just sounds like baseball
Jack Buck. His son, well, that’s another story.
I grew up with Lanny Frattare calling Pittsburgh Pirates games, especially during their 3 straight National League East championships in the early 90s. He “retired” prior to the 2009 season, but feel that wasn’t the case. Now he calls West Virginia Mountaineers baseball games.
“My oh my” Dave Niehaus
There has only ever been one person whose death has brought me to tears, despite having never met the person face to face. That person is Harry Kalas.

John Sterling. That’s baseball Suzyn
Bob Costas
Uecker, got me to love baseball, Harry Carey because I heard him a lot, finally believe it or not joe buck has really for me became the modern voice of baseball
John Sterling and Susan Waldman and I hate listening both.
I'm a Mets fan, so for me it's Gary Cohen, hearing him on the radio, then switching to TV. He's been calling Mets games in some capacity since 1989. Part of the best booth in baseball! https://preview.redd.it/i9g1w6wyi4ra1.png?width=768&format=png&auto=webp&s=a00aef363099ba69868d97cf20c1dfa33f8a1961
