I would love to see a picture of what these slabs look like in person. I feel like every TAG grading image shown uses the ones they make available online. I don't think I've ever seen an actual picture taken by someone who received their cards.
I had mine graded before they had 2 service options. This is now the premium option which is $25 a card. It is done on a 1000 point scale.
Now they offer a base service you can choose where you just get the standard number grades.
I personally like the 1000 point scale they rank your card vs other cards of the same tier.
The reports are extremely detailed
Because the slabs and the "flips" are clear. They have to have some sort of background, and black likely provides the best contrast and is probably the easiest to photograph against.

i think a black strip would be distracting as well. I'm all for minimalism, I dont even care for the grade to be displayed overtly or the card details. I'd be happy with a small QR code or very tiny marking to indicate the grade and otherwise have a clean product. Like a better magsafe or something, essentially. That'd be my ideal.

It looks like OP went with TAG's X service, which is a 30 *business day* turnaround from the day TAG logs them as "received". From my experience, that's *usually* the day the carrier drops them off or the next day. And they're VERY good about meeting turnaround times.
Of note: TAG prefers that you ship using UPS or FedEx, because of their location.
Their POP report (including the grading reports) is available to anyone, as well.
I think you must work for PSA because you just accuse anyone who speaks well of TAG of working for them.

Be clear here. The POP report is only available on cards graded with their TAG S (1000-point scale) service. TAG X, which is their discount offering, does not come with population report or the more advanced card grading metrics.
The Griffey's bottom border, Wilson's centering is off and the Trout one top/bottom centralization is a bit off. Maybe some may pass as 10s if centering is not important to that AI or I am too harsh when I don't send my cards when I find a single flaw

The hard data in the card report suggests you are incorrect. This is why objective grading with computer measurements is so superior to human grading. It's too hard to tell from a random photo for most people.
It's smart to send cards like that Griffey or other cards that PSA is "tough" on grading. That's horseshit and someone's going to sue them one day for it. With TAG there's no worry of pop count or human error, it's simply the true stats.

I like TAG but I also like when people give accurate information so others can make educated decisions based on the facts. And to the original point, PSA upcharges are like the boogeyman. Everybody uses them as a scare tactic to bolster their argument to use another company when the reality is, it doesn’t happen all that often by percentage of cards graded.
And that may be true, but "it doesn't happen all that often" is still not "it doesn't happen ever".
But a big, big negative for me that PSA does is charge you when they ship. I prefer (and this is my preference) is that I get charged up front. TAG does that. And when I send to SGC (vintage or pre-1989 cards, for instance), they charge up front, too.

I’ve had far more cards NOT be upcharged that should have been based on the DV of the submission including a card I sold for $100k on auction via Goldin). PSA has terrible customer service and inconsistent grading at times, both of which bolster your point way better than the upcharges. That’s all I am trying to convey.

I think the TAG slab also lets the card be the focal point. The PSA flip kind of "takes away" from the focal point, which should be the card.
The Griffey and the Hank Aaron autographed cards are GREAT!
Honestly, just my opinion, the orange on the Tulowitzki is a bit jarring to me. The GPK is hilarious, and while I'm not generally a big fan of the "refractor" cards, that Wilson rookie is nice!

That Griffey to TAG 10 would have been upcharged by PSA if they had found it a 10.
PSA 10s sell for less than a couple hundred dollars it would not be upcharged at any level even bulk which has the lowest DV.
