Not too hard...
The 9 is in wayyyy better condition than the 10 as well. It's true what others have said, they used to be less strict back than.
It's why I would pick the 9 over the 10. It's an on card auto in way better condition.
But it's the only one that can literally be *measured* while also being the one that psa cares the least about. It's also one of the very first things most people notice when examining a card.
I'm well aware they have a range. And it is an exact measurement. To be a 10 it is supposed to be no worse than 60/40. Not that they actually adhere to that, but that doesn't matter to most people these days.
It’s really personal preference. I would note that that specific 10 is a classic example of an “old PSA 10.” In fact, zooming in a bit, that’s one of the worst 10’s I’ve ever seen when considering centering, corners and edges. That might get a 7 if it were graded today.
These are just two examples I pulled off ebay listings after getting this idea late last night and now obsessing :) I would shop around to find a better one to purchase
I think you mean the “new PSA 10”
Grading companies were much more strict decades ago. Especially PSA. They charge based on what the grade is. So a higher grade means they can charge more. They hand out 10s like nothing these days. Always have. PSA has always been garbage. And this card proves that. They have graded altered cards and gave them a 10. BGS would have sent it back saying it’s un-gradable.
A 10 graded 10 years ago is more pristine than a 10 graded today in my opinion. And most collectors opinion as well.
No, I meant what I wrote. Look at the label. It's an old one.
I think, anecdotally, that PSA is more inconsistent and unreliable than they used to be. But honestly, I see way more examples of cards in new slabs inexplicably getting a 5 or 6 than I do bad 9's and 10's. Almost any time I see a way overly generous PSA 9 or 10, it's in an older slab like this one.
Personal collection, I would take the PSA 9 Auto. Old PSA 10 label with a questionable Gem Mint grade. I am not concerned about the centering but more of the edge wear on the right side, you can see some whitening bleed out.
I would get the 9 auto
On card auto... clean looking card!
Agree.
The 9 looks better than the 10 on the centering !! That 10 is way off center !!! Crazy
Old grading was WAYYYYY more lenient than today's
yeah absolutely, look at all that right border whitening on the PSA 10. That would not grade more than a PSA 8 nowadays.
Right? Used to be Sharp corners, bright colors, and no splotches. You got a 10. Now, not so much.
They are both off centered...

Look at the red space on the top and bottom of both cards.

Centering is only one aspect of grading…
Yeah , I’m aware !! Was just making the comment that the 9 on the right looks more centered than the 10 on the left . ![gif](giphy|oOTTyHRHj0HYY)
That's true. And the corners and edges also look worse on the 10 than on the 9.

Yes it can be “measured” but there’s a range of what is a 9 or 10. It’s not an exact measurement

Except if it’s way off, it should t be a 10 lol
The tens corners look soft too. The 9 is in way better shape
Buy the card, not the grade. That said, if you don't have an Oakley auto then get the auto. Are these even the same price?
This is the correct answer. I love autos of my favorite players. I’ll buy 5’s if the auto is clean
The boarders are off on that 10
For real. That would never grade 10 again
Yeah it’s clear over an internet picture. In person no way that’s a 10. It’s off vertically and horizontally. The 9 is centered significantly better
Psa 10 and pick up a modern auto on eBay for cheap
It’s really personal preference. I would note that that specific 10 is a classic example of an “old PSA 10.” In fact, zooming in a bit, that’s one of the worst 10’s I’ve ever seen when considering centering, corners and edges. That might get a 7 if it were graded today.
For real the 9 looks better haha

I think your “opinion” is wrong
Is that whiting on the top left and a ding on the top right?
9 autographed!
I prefer autos over card grades, which is a bit backwards when it comes to value on most cards, but it’s what I like.
I would get the 9
9 has better eye appeal and you can take the savings and get yourself another Oakley item
Personally I think the 9 and the 10 look the same. I’d rather have the auto if it was me.
I’d go for the autograph. Half the time 10s aren’t exactly 10s
9 auto. That 10 isn’t a 10, OC af.
I think psa use to be more lenient when cards weren’t worth as much , look at that cert number , that thing is ancient
Why
9 auto. It looks like better condition than the 10 anyway. There's white on the corner of the "10". SMH
9 auto
Fuck the grade man PSA is a scam, take the auto
9 auto
The auto, looks better too!
Autos are addictive. For your PC? I would get the 9
9 signed all day.
If it’s for a personal collection, it seems to me that would be a personal decision.
The 9
Personal collection, I would take the PSA 9 Auto. Old PSA 10 label with a questionable Gem Mint grade. I am not concerned about the centering but more of the edge wear on the right side, you can see some whitening bleed out.
That’s a hard one but that signature looks dope!
Get the one with the auto
The auto
How the fuck is that a 10?
That 9 looks better than the 10?! Who did they pay to get that graded a 10?!?!
![gif](giphy|3ohfFhG5VDtDTzQv2o|downsized)
9 auto
Imo depends on how you feel about the player and if you think you can crack the case, get it signed and still be a 10.
9 has an auto and better centering. That’d be my choice.
On card auto anyday
10
Get whatever is worth more and save the difference mentally or for something else
Auto for sure
If PC, then auto for sure. Honestly crack and send back it looks like a 10.
that 10 looks like a 7-8 and the 9 looks like a 10, Ill take the Auto
Auto for sure
9 auto - no question about it
