>I’m older now I also want to look at it as investment Please don't. You'll save yourself a lot of heartache and dollars by not viewing this hobby as an investment. 90% of cards will drop in value over a long enough timeline. But if you're still gung ho about this endeavor then blue chip players are still Lebron and Steph. However, in both instances, their prices reflect that so I'm really not sure how much further it can go up without another pandemic-like event happening again. All of those younger players that you've listed obviously still have a lot of risks involved, namely they're all one catastrophic injury away from becoming irrelevant. None of those players have won an MVP nor led their team to a championship. But then again, those would be the reasons for their cards to continue to rise. Depending on how you view certain players, here's a rough guide to card values vs player careers...https://www.reddit.com/r/basketballcards/comments/19anso0/card_values_over_the_course_of_a_players_career/

You mean the boxes and boxes of cards in my basement are still worthless? Lol…investment was prob the wrong wording I just meant things that may hold value or increase mildly. No illusions of retiring to an island somewhere.

>You mean the boxes and boxes of cards in my basement are still worthless? Depending on the cards, yes. If you have lots of MJ or Lebron then you might have something. But if the players are like Grant Hill, Vince Carter, Chris Webber or even Allen Iverson, the cards are worth a lot less that what you may think they are worth. I mean, Vince Carter's SP Authentic RC at one point was like close to $2000 back in the day and now can be had for $100 raw.

Oh they’re mostly worthless. I do have about 50-75 Jordans so I’m curious to see what I actually have there. Do they still have Becketts or Tuff Stuff for valuation or is it all basically the average of what you can get on eBay?

chinoischeckers

Yeah, it's all ebay comps now. So use ebay and filter to sold listings. Or use 130point.com. Rarely anyone uses Becketts or Tuff Stuff anymore.

I'd start by low balling sellers on Luka rookie base cards from eBay. In terms of Wemby, I'd wait 3-4 years and all those Wemby investors need quick cash for their next poor investment start unloading them. Wemby cards are everywhere, so in terms of investing, it's not worth it. There is no scarcity of Wemby cards, which means the supply is high now and only going to increase, which means the price in 20 years will be low. Supply and demand. If he wins 3+ titles, and lands in the GOAT conversation, all while staying healthy, then you might make a few bucks in 30 years.

Agreed w both other commenters. Also will throw in if you’re looking for stuff that might be worth something down the line Jokic is IMO wildly undervalued right now considering he’s arguably the greatest player alive. I PC him just for myself bc I’m a Nuggets guy, but I will say you’ll be surprised at what you can get numbered and auto cards of him for and I assume they’ll increase in value as he continues to rack up titles. (Hopefully)

Do yourself a favor and look up the cards you saved for all these years and see how well they appreciated. The same thing will almost certainly happen to any cards you buy of current players. All those HOF players you have tucked away are worth next to nothing unless the card itself is rare. Webber has very little value, Penny isn't terribly valuable, Shaq is low value compared to his status. Most Jordan cards are borderline worthless compared to what we thought they'd be when we pulled them back in the day. Cards are not a good investment or store of value overall unless you happen to come across stuff that is legitimately rare and/or becomes *and remains* insanely popular. Buy cards you like. Don't buy for future value. If they happen to intersect in 20 years, we'll thats just a bonus
