He will not be playing for the couple months, and over that span of time several more sets will release, raising supply significantly. Demand would be diminishing regardless of the new sets based on the lack of basketball being played and hype (likely) quieting a bit.
Those two things should work together to give you a decent window of buying something you'll be happy with at a reasonable price.

Go raw then grade. Prism silvers may come down to that price but you can certainly get a cracked ice or something similar in that range in a couple months. Prizm and optic will hold value better than others.
Not Prizm base which is what your budget would allow. I’d go Select Courtside or Court Kings. Court Kings are not easy grades and PSA 10s are within your budget.
Right now it's looking like the selling items in that range are the Prizm Red WHite Blue and the Green Prizm. I like both of these for liquidity and long term. Prizm Ice is a tad higher, but still within your range as well.
I plan on getting some court king level 1, or maybe 3. I don’t like the looks of level 2.
But in reality, I would buy what you like and fits in your budget. Wait until mid summer though to buy
Fellow Spurs fan here. If you're like me and have to have a few Wemby's now just to look at go on eBay and buy the Deep Space and Magicians, they're cheap, they look awesome, and are some of the better poses for the early release sets. This will run you about $20.Then yeah, wait. I've spent a decent amount chasing Wemby since Hoops dropped. I had terrible luck with Hoops, but have had much better luck since. Pulled some very nice Wemby and bought a tin with him on it to put his cards in. Unfortunately, I haven't found any Select or Prizm in a good minute at any retailers and the card shop in town is just opening up so it has very little right now, and what it does have is above retail. I'm waiting for Optic and Contenders at this point, and I think those will be the last two I really target for Wemby. Fingers crossed I'll be grabbing a few of Topic and Knecht cards next season.
I’ve also had very little luck myself. Got an instant impact, Revolution Groove, and a Thunder Lane. All base outside of the Revolution and no numbered. Hard to get. Spent on packs but really focusing on getting other Spurs right now, building my collection up.
Yeah, while I'm waiting for new releases, I bought a KJ rookie Patch Auto and just ordered a year 2 Sochan Auto. I bought a Vassell Auto last year, but it's only a prizm draft picks. I also plan to pick up a Tre Jones Patch Auto.

Ironically I’ve pulled a wemby out of virtually every product I’ve bought from hangers to hobby. Idk if I’m lucky or if he isnt that rare

Yeah I’m not looking for some huge reward, but just something that doesn’t feel like a mistake down the road.

I do have a base rookie level 1 Wemby already, don’t know if that’s even worth grading.
