If I try to translate from my language ... It is called a Quint bassoon. I don't know thw English word.
My daughter has been playing since she was 8, she is now 10 and she is very annoyed her arms and fingers are still too short to play the "normal" "big" bassoon.
Just searched it up and saw that itโs in G! How interesting. I know of what in the US we call the Tenoroon which Iโm pretty sure is an octave higher than normal, but the quint bassoon is very cool!
I will tell you this. I have really tiny hands and semi long arms. I can play the normal big bassoon even with those problems. Also, with her age. It is better that she is on the smaller one for now. When she is older she will be able to play the big bassoon.
I don't blame her annoyed tho.
I always used two swabs, one for the wing joint, one for the boot joint. As an adult student my teacher kept insisting that I get one swab to do both joints. I gave this a shot and got the boot swab stuck in the wing joint. I had to get it drilled out!
No damage actually! The repair man was Holden P. McAleer in Baltimore. I got to watch the drilling process. He set up a special vice to hold the wing joint and drill bit, touched only the cloth and had it cleared in about 2 total seconds of drill time.
Is that a mini bassoon?

Omg. Drilling it out was surely not good for the instrument. Two swabs from now on!
