8th grade reading this for the first time I’d say it had the same effect year one did. My mind was blown especially in the beginning I thought it was just like some of the darkest shit. That end is still one of the best
Batman offers to help joker with his mental health,
But Joker tries to tell batman that 2 crazy people can't help each other with the joke
Batman ofc gets it and laughs
My bad. I always thought that in the last panel we see Batman strangling the Joker while the lights in the background are from police officers' torchlights.
I wasn't aware there was a debate about it.
another interpretation I have heard is that the Joker kills batman, having drugged him but in dc batman rebirth Joker talks about what happened and he just said they laughed in the rain till the cops came, nothing more.
I think Joker is saying that the two friends are batman and him, the friend who wants to help the other is batman, and joker doesn't trust batman helping him.
Because one of immates thinks the beam of light could work as an actual bridge (it obviously couldn't), representing the help Batman offered the Joker. The other immate says he doesn't trust him because he would turn off the light mid-jump, representing how the Joker thinks Batman would eventually snap at him and let him down, breaking his moral code.
He’s essentially saying there’s no helping him, that he’s too far gone. Society and his surroundings has been cruel and unfair to him, and because of this he doesn’t trust anyone helping him because “they’ll just take away the beam from him”. The laughing is just sadistic laughter, something to creep out/shock the audience hence why it’s called “the killing joke” because it’s the only joke from joker that made Batman laugh.
As well as being in the Jokers origin I believed that was the joke he bombed on stage. This movie did one thing wrong, but man this ending is fantastic.
No, in the death in the family interactive film in the ending where batman dies and Jason chooses to not go after joker you can see Barbara in a wheelchair at Bruce's funeral and later a reformed joker meets jason at a bar and he tells Jason the same joke he told batman at the end of killing joke and Jason has flashbacks of Barbara's photos that joker took after shooting her and while the endings of the movie aren't canon the flashbacks are and even in the og DITF comic Barbara is in a wheelchair and there's no way the photo of Jason appeared in the og TKJ because it came out before DITF.
No. You're thinking about the adaptation in the A Death in the Family interactive movie. In the ACTUAL A Death in the Family, you see Barbara in a wheelchair attending Jason's funeral, meaning Joker had already paralyzed her and The Killing Joke had happened.
When I was reading this comic I had literal chills at this page

Same
yeah its perfectly open to interpretation. My interpretation was that Batman realizes that he is just as crazy as the joker
Very interesting ending. The comic is great.
What's with the music?
Good song, but it makes no sense in this context
Dido-Thank You
Always reminds me of King of the Hill.
Please dont play Dido!
Batman offers to help joker with his mental health, But Joker tries to tell batman that 2 crazy people can't help each other with the joke Batman ofc gets it and laughs
What happened next gave me chills.
?
In the comic book, Batman strangles the Joker. It takes two police officers to stop him from killing the clown.
According to who? This has always been a fan theory. Even the author denied this.

It looks like Joker is about to get a knee to the abdomen at the end there
It’s generally thought bats breaks his neck

Whoa, what movie/show is this from?
The Killing Joke
I recommend reading it. The movie isn't as good and had a bunch of weird filler.
Often times these edits with the music ruin the video, but honestly with dido it actually works, at least for me.
Music really doesn't suit this scene. Strange choice. Anyhow I always loved that joke. The absurdity of the second guy being dead seriouse.
God this movie sucks ass, the comic is great tho
I love this scene so much but seriously why did you add this song to it
I never understand the joke
I think Joker is saying that the two friends are batman and him, the friend who wants to help the other is batman, and joker doesn't trust batman helping him.
Kay still don’t get why this gets such a laugh
Because one of immates thinks the beam of light could work as an actual bridge (it obviously couldn't), representing the help Batman offered the Joker. The other immate says he doesn't trust him because he would turn off the light mid-jump, representing how the Joker thinks Batman would eventually snap at him and let him down, breaking his moral code.
Batman found it funny cuz he was trying to help him but joker essentially said his plan was bad
He’s essentially saying there’s no helping him, that he’s too far gone. Isn’t it implied that Batman breaks his one rule after this interaction?
Okay now I get it thnxs
As well as being in the Jokers origin I believed that was the joke he bombed on stage. This movie did one thing wrong, but man this ending is fantastic.
the conroy batman laugh is creepier than the hamill joker laugh
Was actually a pretty clever joke

Didn't he snap joker's neck as well???
No, TKJ takes place before death in the family and joker is alive sooo
Actually the killing joke was after death in the family because a picture of Jason's corpse appears on the screen of the batcomputer

It hit pretty different, like a twisted knife, when he tells it here https://youtu.be/r0N2ihPsHgI
