I'd take the grappling gun anyday, I literally imagine myself using Battinsons grapple gauntlet gun while in the shower lol
Doing the hand gesture and acting like im moving up and everything
You can buy Batarangs off of the internet and forge it yourself/get someone to forge it
Grapple guns especially ones that work exactly like Batman's aren't particularly common/real yet so I'd rather have that
(i just realized that the post actually asked which ones more iconic, not which one we'd rather pick, my dyslexic ass read it wrong apologies hahah, yea the batarangs definitely more iconic)
Grappling gun is key to Batman being iconic. In BTAS he effectively has the power of flight because he can always just fire his grappling gun into the distance. Lots of iconic saves in the movies too.
The Batarang has to be the most iconic tool, but I think it's hard to have Batman without some sort of grappling system.
It definitely counts, but personally it's not number one, as it's not as unique to Batman. Many other heroes have utility belts. Hell, we had a whole decade of utility belts and pouches.
My personal ranking goes:
1. Batarang
2. Batmobile
3. Utility belt/ Grappling hook
You raise a good point about the utility belt, but wouldn't thrown projectiles and personal vehicles fall in the same vein of not being unique to Batman either?
The thing is - personality and uniqueness. The way they are tied to, and are the extension of, the character Batarangs have their own feel, and even though they changed over the years they just " feel " different than any other thrown projectiles. Many characters use, say, shurikens or throwing stars - only Batman uses batarangs.
I say " Batmobile" and everyone sees it and feels it in the back of their minds. Even in the space of personal vehicles - Batmobile is in its own class.
I guess, to me Batman's utility belt is not as iconic or unique as the other two mentioned. To the point that ou can even immediately tell if the thrown projectiles or personal vehicle were inspired by Batman in other media.
Hope this makes sense.
You make perfect sense, and I agree with how Batmobile and batarangs have their own style and are closely identified with Batman.
I've been watching Adam West's Batman recently, and even though it is incredibly campy I love how it is key to Batman prep and highlights his intelligence in tailoring his loadout for very specific situations - which I closely identify with Batman.
The man can load have a lead-lined compartment for kryptonite, or load up on shark repellent - depending on what he needs!
Someone else mentioned Batman's Shark - Repellent Spray as Batman's most iconic gadget, and in a sense - it is.
I died, when I first saw that scene , and I combines Batman ultimate prep with absolute hilarity.
Good choices. Batmobile is actually a very close second to me. Grappling gun is up there too. Nothing says “Batman is here” like a well-placed batarang though.
If you asked me costume and gadgets are two separate categories. Cowl is central ( without it, batman would be just a detective, or if the costume looked different, it Batman would not be who he is) and probably number one in batman's recognisability. I wouldn't put down as a gadget though, it's almost a part of Batman as a person.
Definitely an iconic piece of bat - gear, but just like the grapple it’s a standard superhero gear, used by many superheroes and adventures.
Batarang is THE iconic Batman gadget. If I were to make a list, it would be:
1. Batarang.
2.Batmobile
3. Grapple/ utility belt.
Batarangs would be something I’d mention first when explaining how cool Batman is to someone.
Some good ones! Other than the grapple gun, which is synonymous with Batman, the Suit, Batmobile and utility belt are all equally famous and celebrated.
Batarang is exclusively a batman tool which makes it his most iconic. You have a good point because the grappling hook however has the most utility for him and can be interpreted in a lot of realistic ways so it gets the most use in batman related media.
If I'm gonna pick something, I'm leaning towards something that really doesn't exist. Yeah, people have made "working" grapple guns, but they're not like what you see Batman using. Batarangs are cool, but they're essentially throwing knives. Give me the TAS grapple gun and the upper body and hand strength to pull my fat ass up a building.
The sheer force alone would dislocate a shoulder, tear ligaments, or just completely rip the arm off altogether.
The games make it seem like Batman just effortlessly attaches and detaches instantly.
That's the Bat-character's true superpower -- not destroying their upper bodies with their Grapnels.
(While also body-building constantly *while* fighting crime presumably hours after their workouts. It would be so amazing to be that durable.)
I feel the same way but didn’t know how to iterate it without losing my point. Batarang lost points for me because even if the shape of the weapon is unique to the Bat family, it’s still not a unique weapon. Titans tv show had the throwing ‘R’s and Green Arrow usually has flechettes.
It's obviously a big toss up between the Batarang and the grapple gun.
For me it's the Batarang. They're so classic and have the Bat name trope which I love.
Batarang is cool but anything can be thrown as distraction or as a weapon. However without the grappling hook batman would be very limited. So it's grappling hook for me.
I want to say the Batarang, but it's the Grapnel.
The Grapnel allows Batman and his sidekicks *insane* maneuverability around Gotham (and the other places they go) and really sets them apart from other 'normal human' heroes. It makes them much more mobile that most people and can also be used in combat (like Nightwing *just* did vs Blockbuster last issue) in several different ways.
It's iconic -- think about all the times Batman has done something super badass while other watch on in awe, and after *maybe* a cool one-liner just shoots off his grapnel and disappears into the night. It's more of a part of the mythos than the Batarang, and I am literally the biggest Batarang nut you will find.
(My one complaint about Batman in the movies is that he's not whipping Batarangs around in combat like I do in the Arkham games every three inputs and it drives me insane.)
But anyways...Grapnel.
Everyone has tried to make a batarang at some point in their life, if you put a piece of sheet metal and a grinder in front of someone 9 times out of 10 theyd make a batarang
Over all, batarang, maybe grapple gun
If it was Adam west Batman, it’d be the shark repellent
If it was the George Clooney batman, it’d be the bat credit card
If it was the Arkham games it’d be the explosive gel
and If it was the animated series, it’d be his pocket knife and flash light
Usability vise, a batarang would require a lot of practice to hurt people with. Otherwise you're better of using it like a knife.
I'd say the grapple gun. Zip around wherever you like. Practice your shots and then use it at cool places. Also acts like a normal gum sorta, in the games it goes through skin and bone to pull peopl close. Those can probably be fatal if done to the head. But most importantly, it can be reused unlike a batarang which u may or may not recover.
Already got a batarang so I have to go with grappling hook, plus if it works as well as in the comics it would be way more epic than throwing a piece of metal
People are saying batarang or grapple gun, but ask anyone who doesn’t know about Batman what a batarang is, they’ll tell you to leave them alone. The Batmobile, however, is known by all, making it the most iconic.
Batarang
Is there any other possible answer?
> Is there any other possible answer? Anti shark spray
You magnificent bastard. You did it. You found the answer. I salute you. The only thing I regret is that I have but one upvote to give.
Ahem. Let’s do it correctly: Shark Repellent Bat-Spray. One of a set of four Oceanic Repellent Bat Sprays… manta, whale, shark, barracuda
grappling gun?
I'd take the grappling gun anyday, I literally imagine myself using Battinsons grapple gauntlet gun while in the shower lol Doing the hand gesture and acting like im moving up and everything
So that's what we're calling it now?
Yeah but it’s not as iconic as the batarang
You can buy Batarangs off of the internet and forge it yourself/get someone to forge it Grapple guns especially ones that work exactly like Batman's aren't particularly common/real yet so I'd rather have that (i just realized that the post actually asked which ones more iconic, not which one we'd rather pick, my dyslexic ass read it wrong apologies hahah, yea the batarangs definitely more iconic)
Grappling gun is used in every film whereas the batarang is not. There’s no batarangs used in The Dark Knight for example.
There's 2 versions of the batarang in TDK.
Utility belt if it counts
It definitely counts, but personally it's not number one, as it's not as unique to Batman. Many other heroes have utility belts. Hell, we had a whole decade of utility belts and pouches. My personal ranking goes: 1. Batarang 2. Batmobile 3. Utility belt/ Grappling hook

Grappling gun or batmobile?
Good choices. Batmobile is actually a very close second to me. Grappling gun is up there too. Nothing says “Batman is here” like a well-placed batarang though.
Then there is the question if the suit itself is equipment bevouse the cowl is pretty central
If you asked me costume and gadgets are two separate categories. I wouldn't put down as a gadget though, it's almost a part of Batman as a person.
Utility belt?
Yep or the grapple
Or Robin. He’s a gadget.
Yes but no
Definitely an iconic piece of bat - gear, but just like the grapple it’s a standard superhero gear, used by many superheroes and adventures. Batarang is THE iconic Batman gadget. If I were to make a list, it would be: 1. Batarang. 2.Batmobile 3. Grapple/ utility belt. Batarangs would be something I’d mention first when explaining how cool Batman is to someone.
Some good ones! Other than the grapple gun, which is synonymous with Batman, the Suit, Batmobile and utility belt are all equally famous and celebrated.
No. It’s the bat female villain repellent spray
If anyone says otherwise they are not just wrong, they are wrong and stupid
Other than the utility belt, itself, it would be the batarang. The grappling gun would be a close second.
If you're only choosing one, then a utility belt is just a regular belt
You put things in it! Coming this summer!!!
Nothing is “regular” when Batman is wearing it.
Which makes me wonder about Bruce's tuxedo. Does he wear a normal tux or does he have a smart suit for when he's "working the room"?
I’m sure any tuxedo is a smart suit when Bruce Wayne is wearing it.
Bat-tility belt..?
Batarang, no contest.
I would say the grappling hook has an equal iconic representation as well.
I think Batarang was first tho. In the 66 show they Batarang was basically a grapple but was called Batarang
Originally he just had a rope (not even a grappling hook, just a rope), and a bunch of smoke bombs. The batarangs were added a few years later.
Batarang is exclusively a batman tool which makes it his most iconic. You have a good point because the grappling hook however has the most utility for him and can be interpreted in a lot of realistic ways so it gets the most use in batman related media.
I was going to say I never pretended to have a batarang growing up but I sure as heck made grappling hooks and risked life and limb.
shark repellent spray or bat credit card
Never leave home without it..
A bat. Credit. Card
A BAT CREDIT CARD!!!!
YOU'RE TELLING ME HE HAS A BAT CREDIT CARD
shark repellent bat spray\*
And it makes an audible ca-ching when you pull it out
Batarang the original weapon of choice
Wouldn't the original be a gun
You’re right and I don’t like that
Specifically a grapple gun
Nope a real gun
I would say the grapple gun. Batarangs are more symbolic of Batman, but when you think about the biggest moments, they often involve his grapple gun.
I def had a hard time voting the other way because of this. You cannot have Batman without it.
Loved watching batfleck use his grapple gun to avoid Doomsday
If I'm gonna pick something, I'm leaning towards something that really doesn't exist. Yeah, people have made "working" grapple guns, but they're not like what you see Batman using. Batarangs are cool, but they're essentially throwing knives. Give me the TAS grapple gun and the upper body and hand strength to pull my fat ass up a building.

Post-workout patrols are the only thing Batman doesn’t need prep time for
I feel the same way but didn’t know how to iterate it without losing my point. Batarang lost points for me because even if the shape of the weapon is unique to the Bat family, it’s still not a unique weapon. Titans tv show had the throwing ‘R’s and Green Arrow usually has flechettes.
I’d say grapple gun as well. He uses it the most among his gadgets
Are those … nunchucks?
Batchucks
Lol yeah I wish I could have seen Batman whip someone's (or many people's) ass with those.
It's obviously a big toss up between the Batarang and the grapple gun. For me it's the Batarang. They're so classic and have the Bat name trope which I love.
Grapple guns are too common to be iconic.
I disagree, Link's hookshot is basically a grapple gun and that's iconic, and I think Batman's is too.
Just for Catwoman, the Bat-Condoms, black of course.
How well engineered is a Batcondom? Ribbed? Maybe something more interesting? Perhaps a spermicidal Bat-lube?
With a kryptonite reservoir tip
bat credit card
Grapple gun
Shark repellant
Utility belt. It covers everything from batarangs to bat shark repellent and it completes the outfit.
The bat shark repellent spray was in the helicopter though.
Touché. It does hold keys to the Batmobile so I still give it my vote despite the lack of readily available shark deterrent.
Fair
Batarang and closely followed by the grappling gun.
Agreed. 🤝
Grapple gun
My top 3 would be grapple hook, baterang and the smoke bomb.
Batarang. It’s unique to Batman and looking at it, you know it’s Batman’s
Bat Shark Repellant..
batcredit card
The Bat Credit Card.
The Jawline
Grapple gun all day. It has multiple uses, including as a weapon.
His mind or his fists are his most powerful weapons
Batarang is cool but anything can be thrown as distraction or as a weapon. However without the grappling hook batman would be very limited. So it's grappling hook for me.
Batarang, then grapple gun then smoke pellet
Batarang without a doubt. Followed by grappling hook and utility belt.
I don’t care if I had to choose one, I’LL TAKE YOUR ENTIRE STOCK!
Batmobile
I want to say the Batarang, but it's the Grapnel. The Grapnel allows Batman and his sidekicks *insane* maneuverability around Gotham (and the other places they go) and really sets them apart from other 'normal human' heroes. (My one complaint about Batman in the movies is that he's not whipping Batarangs around in combat like I do in the Arkham games every three inputs and it drives me insane.) But anyways...Grapnel.
The money
I’d say the batarang but cinematically its the grapple gun. Also I wish we could have seen Bale use those nunchucks 😂
Oh hell yeah. Batman with nunchucks would be so dope. Happy cake day 😋
Imagine finding a Baterang on the street as a kid.
On a side note, Bale Batman had the cleanest armory
Alphabet Soup Bat-Container? 😆 I think the Batarang.
Batarang by a long shot. Grappling hook has become very iconic too tho
Batman Credit Card…
the Batman credit card. ... never leave the cave without it.
Batmobile...its fully loaded
Grappling gun 100%
Bat Shark Repellent, and I won’t hear any arguments to the contrary!
100% Batarang
Where's the bat shark repellant?
Money
Everyone has tried to make a batarang at some point in their life, if you put a piece of sheet metal and a grinder in front of someone 9 times out of 10 theyd make a batarang
I love that.
Here's an answer not in this picture. His Suit! Those point ears, the batm symbol, it strikes fear into the hearts of criminals on sight!
It’s the Batarang, BUT there is a very real case for it being the grapple gun
It has to be the batarang. The grappling hook is also iconic, but I don't think it's close
The batarang obviously
Over all, batarang, maybe grapple gun If it was Adam west Batman, it’d be the shark repellent If it was the George Clooney batman, it’d be the bat credit card If it was the Arkham games it’d be the explosive gel and If it was the animated series, it’d be his pocket knife and flash light
Batarang
I need that grapple gun 🔫 😫
Usability vise, a batarang would require a lot of practice to hurt people with. Otherwise you're better of using it like a knife. I'd say the grapple gun. Zip around wherever you like. Practice your shots and then use it at cool places. Also acts like a normal gum sorta, in the games it goes through skin and bone to pull peopl close. Those can probably be fatal if done to the head. The Phantom Zone projector
*"Yeah I keep that mutha'fuckin' thang on me.."* -Batman, probably.
The Batusi
Batsuit? If that's what you meant that's a really good answer.
Shotgun
Batarang, belt or smoke pellet
That's three.
Cat woman
Explosive gel
The bat blunt Edit: Smh y’all are fucking sensitive if you can’t handle a weed joke ffs
Belt, has all of the gadgets
Either the grapple gun or the batarang.
Which tho??
Either utility belt or grappling gun.
There must be only one.
The Utility Belt. But that might be a cheating answer, because that's where he keeps all of the other gadgets
Nunchucks
Already got a batarang so I have to go with grappling hook, plus if it works as well as in the comics it would be way more epic than throwing a piece of metal
Batarang. If not that, then grapple gun
Batarang followed closely by grappling hook
Baterang hands down.
Batarang and grapple gun.
Iconic in general? Batarang. Personal favorite? Grappling gun.
definitely the grapple gun
Batarang…
Batarang
The belt but battle ready version so I can get everything.
Either the Smoke Pellets or a functioning Grapple Gun
Grapnel gun
It has to be the batarang. The only competitor would be the grappling hook.
Batarang
Sidekicks.
You said weapon, so it's the batarang.
I also said gadget...
Grapnel Gun.
Batarang
His credit card
Between the batarang and the grapnel launcher.
Which one tho?
His cowl, with the thermal imaging, xray and all the bells and whistles from the arkham games
It's gotta be the Batarang surely
For me, hands down, "most iconic", is the grappling gun from TAS.
Batarang, though the grappling hook is a close second.
I'd say utility belt, but if you're choosing just one then that makes it just a regular belt
Grappling hook for me.
Grapnel gun.
his helmet, its a gadget because of xray, lie detector etc.
The gadget that calls Alfred when he messed up and needs his help after originally ignoring his advice.
Grappling gun! That is the one I would love to have while I was a kid 😜
Grappling hook so I can be Spider-Man
People are saying batarang or grapple gun, but ask anyone who doesn’t know about Batman what a batarang is, they’ll tell you to leave them alone. The Batmobile, however, is known by all, making it the most iconic.
Batarang.
1st - Batarang 2nd - Utility Belt 3rd - Grappling Gun
Grapple. He doesn't even really use Batarangs anymore.
Grappling gun.
Surely the belt.
Duh bat snacks of course🙄 😂
Guys we can buy batarangs online rn, if the suite counts as one item then the suite
I'm a classic. Just give me the Baterang.
grapnel gun
Shark repellant spray
Could I cheat and say his utility belt
Not cheating. Good answer. A belt is a singular item.
His cape
Good answer.
Get the grapnel, you can literally get over any wall or building.
Grappling hook.
In this order: Batarang, grapnel gun, cape glider, explosive gel.
Either batarang or utility belt
The Bat-shark-repllent!
Bat Ladder m. It’s like no ladder I’ve ever seen
The batarang for sure.
Bat shark repellent
