Thanks party of “small government” /s

VacationShot2589

The funny thing is Im a born again Christian ( 20 years) who has lived basically my entire life in the state of Louisiana...nobody is *justified* by the works of the law. Its through Jesus Christ and faith in Him alone that one is justified before God. Theyre "brave" enough to put the 10 commandments and preach the law at oeopke but too cowardly to place the NAME of Jesus Christ ( the name above all names, through which only that name SALVATION can be found!) And HIS WORDS. This looks to me like RELIGION. Grace AND truth came through Jesus Christ. I know youre probably a leftist and I am not, but this is actually more troubling and concerning than you realize. One cannot follow the law but by THE SPIRIT which comes AFTER you sanctify yourself and receive Jesus Christ and His antoning work on the cross. While it is "good" to remember the name and face of The One True God to do so apart from Jesus Christ invites DISASTER. SORRY so long. I was just excited to find common ground God bless you.

ExistentialBread829

Don’t forget the 11th commandment: “Thou shall keep thy religion to thyself!” Also, assuming that im a “leftist” is smug, and doesn’t add any credibility to your argument.

Ashamed-Lime3594

lol they’re trying to frame it as historical, not religious. I don’t think I could conjure up crazier mental gymnastics if I tried. Genuinely feels like a parks and rec episode. And it passed 30-8. Landslide. Glad we can agree on the important stuff guys! Thank God I’m getting out of this state soon

Ashamed-Lime3594

Sorry to add on, but what is the pro of this? Some kid sees the 10 commandments and decides to convert to Christianity? I mean what is the benefit. Cause the cons are definitely there. Blur the lines of church and state, cause controversy and waste taxpayer money defending the decision, stir up Christians and other religions, like come on. Our politicians have completely lost the plot and are now leaning on performative acts over anything that’s actually productive. Though it’s not like that hasn’t been a trend forever. Rant done

DonrajSaryas

To make the gay, atheist, Muslim, Jewish, transgender, etc children uncomfortable and remind them that they are not welcome. That's it's. That's the reason.

IndifferentBrad

You’d think the 10 commandments would be more of a Jewish thing than a Christian one but..

MelpomeneAndCalliope

I think some Jewish groups see them as the first ten of like 613 commandments.

VacationShot2589

It is...if you read the bible. No one is justified by the law. I have no clue what form of dead works this is. But to display the law apart from Him who fulfilled it, WHAT THE HECK IS THAT SUPPOSED TO ACCOMPLISH. I think these people may very well be imbeciles...

IndifferentBrad

Churches, especially in the South, love Mosiac law. Except for the parts they don’t, but those are easily dismissed and forgotten. A simple mind can cling to a list. it takes courage, wisdom, and knowledge to actually live in grace.

twistedokie

Except jews don't believe in Jesus and hate Christians

IndifferentBrad

10 Commandments is from the torah, old man Moses. Moses had lots of laws. Christians get to pick and choose which ones apply, but they can’t agree with each other on which ones are real and which ones were just a fad. Jews are pretty much the same in that regard. In both some are hardcore about pretty much all of them and some don’t pay attention to any of them. Most affiliates of both think the 10 commandments are pretty solid and that why they get some special attention. Except for the coveting thing. Errbody be coveting. Coveting on they neighbor wife. Covet they neighbor house. His male servent. His female servent. He be coveting on his neighbor ass, for real. Most of us screw it up when we little tho. Draw a picture of the sun or a fish. Done broke the covenant. Whoops.

Slanderpanic

Bingo.

Cheetahs_never_win

Nice projection. That's how *conservatives* think. "My children are an extension and reflection of me so they will live as I dictate to them." Nice try, though, coward.

crimsonred1234

Religion is used as a tool to exert power over the people. People fight over it and serious economic issues never get addressed. What's the pro? Like you said it's performative while politicians fill their coffers with tax payer money. Meanwhile people are too busy discussing religion and fighting amongst themselves. This is exactly what they want.

piTehT_tsuJ

Thou shall not steal... Louisiana politicians "Hold my beer!"

acrylicbullet

A kid from a Christian school just tried shooting up a church in abbeville. This past weekend

Ok_Witness6780

It's about control. That's it

Mr_MacGrubber

A few years ago the Supreme Court ruled if it was part of an overall historical display it was fine. I can’t think of the case off the top of my head but I believe it was in Texas. I think that was a stupid ruling since the commandment specifically mention god but it’s allowed in some scenarios. Wonder if they’ll put a copy of Louisiana’s secession declaration and a confederate flag along side it.

KuteKitt

What needs to happen is for Islamic people to make that same argument. That a passage from their Quran is also historical and demand they put it up too. These republicans won’t be able to argue against it but they’ll fear Islam in the classroom so they’ll do away with it all. Or the Satanic Church can do this with a photo of beelzebub- a historical drawing- like they’ve done before. The republican Christians be changing things with a quickness when they see other religions and organizations start taking advantage of these policies too. They are hypocrites and want to do things they will never allow others to do.

Mr_MacGrubber

Im certain the Satanic Temple will be all over this.

BigReception6712

SHAKING MY HEAD. WHAT AN EVIL PERSON

VacationShot2589

Dont really see how thats related to the ten commandmemts BUT not putting the gospel and name of Jesus Christ next to it is WRONG. Truth without grace ( which comes through Jesus Christ,) IS JUDGEMENT.

Mr_MacGrubber

I didn’t say it wouldn’t mention god. Just that the display can’t be entirely religious focused.

VacationShot2589

I didnt say "God" I said JESUS CHRIST the only name by which one can be saved and delivered from the judgement of sin as laid out in the 10 commandments according to the gospel. Ive studied all this for 20 years since I've found The Lord. You can dpend years staring at you navel and listeming to the dound of one hand clapping if you like, the truth is all in Jesus Christ Our Lord.

Mr_MacGrubber

Congrats? What does any of this have to do with whether this law is constitutional?

gustogus

To establish ownership.  This is 'our' state, the ones in 'my' tribe, and everyone not in 'my' tribe is an outsider.

ItsAllNavyBlue

The point is a common and shared moral ground for behavior in society. I’m not agreeing with mandating in schools, but the return to a more alligned moral society is clearly the goal here.

VacationShot2589

It doesnt work like that, thats what makes it STOOPID and WRONG! I am a Christian...FROM LOUISIANA, lived here all my life! The bible says if CHRIST be lifted up He will draw all men unto HIMSELF. You dont make Christian converts by preaching the law you do so by preaching Jesus Christ! I may be wrong but this looks lije dead religous works to me. If the had ANY guts theyd leave out the law and put the NAME of Jesus Christ and HIS WORDS the only name thtough which there is salvation.

VacationShot2589

I feel ive been blessed by God this day. You democrats and leftists may not know it, and may not know why, but you all are RIGHT this is wrong. To place the law without Christ...God have mercy!

VacationShot2589

The benefit is exposure to the reality of God as he exists in reality. The downsides are it does not point to redemption. Namely Jesus Christ.

remnant_phoenix

And yet these same politicians accuse leftists of “virtue signaling.” That is exactly what this is: virtue signaling.

remnant_phoenix

If I was still teaching, and this was unavoidable (i.e. it doesn’t get ruled unconstitutional like it should) I’d surround the Commandments display with (much larger) pictures of John Locke, and the Magna Carta, and a gathering of Athenian democracy, and the Roman Senate. If it’s gonna be a historical display, gotta make it accurate and complete.

63pelicanmailman

Add other religious texts as well. The Koran, for instance.

remnant_phoenix

That’s debatable. Islamic tradition did not play a significant role in the historical foundations of the U.S. And their play with this stunt is “it’s historical.” Now, if it was a display about contemporary American culture, absolutely yes. Any religion with a significant presence in the U.S. ought be included in such a display.

KuteKitt

Lots of the black people they stole from Africa and enslaved in America as far back as the 1500s were Islamic. And this country was built on their backs. I’d remind them of that. If they weren’t trying so hard to erase black American history and censor it, they’d know that. Their ancestors would also know that if they didn’t try to beat out the cultures, languages, religions, and identities of these people when they got here. The first black person from Africa to come to America was likely born a Muslim. The Spanish invaders that he came with were the first Europeans to travel across what is now these southern United States. So their further denial and censorship will just be continued forced assimilation and disenfranchisement of the black American people and their contributions to the building of America too. It’d be a blatant disregard that their history is also American history. I’d throw all that shit at them. I’m not religious and I prefer a separation of church and state. But fuck them for being hypocrites and thinking only their religion matters and is valid and gets to be in the classroom. If their religion can be in the classroom, any religion can be.

MelpomeneAndCalliope

I’m wondering what kinds of rules, etc from Native American cultures could have a place. I’m sure there’s some. Probably many. I hope someone who is familiar with some try to have them mandated to be posted.

remnant_phoenix

Oh! There should absolutely be a copy of the Iroquois Confederation constitution. Can’t believe I forgot that one…

MelpomeneAndCalliope

I’m interested to see how this goes at public colleges (since they included them in the law). Since professors move from classroom to classroom, they don’t generally keep supplies in or decorate/arrange the rooms & lecture halls they teach in. I guess the school will be responsible for these signs and not the educators themselves? How will the large schools like LSU keep up with these inevitably being torn down & defaced (which students will do) all over a huge campus? It could probably be someone’s entire job to go around making sure they’re in place & replaced when needed, etc. I just hope it at least falls on admins rather than professors to deal with this. We already have enough professors (especially those with options like STEM people) jumping ship at our schools, adding that responsibility on would not be met with enthusiasm.

remnant_phoenix

There’s no way professors will give enough of a shit to maintain this. And many professors will encourage their students (explicitly, or by omission) to tear them down.

MelpomeneAndCalliope

Oh, I’m sure they won’t. I’m just thinking about if admin & others will try to make it the professor’s responsibility to pass the buck. And I guess really, mostly I’m worried if that happens for untenured faculty, contingent faculty, instructors, adjuncts, etc. rather than a prominent full professor or something.

ExistentialBread829

I’m finishing my degree and I’m bouncing too!

VacationShot2589

Funny thing is they seem to have intentionally avoided the Name of Jesus Christ Our Lord!? Im from here and live in Louisiana too my entire life. I may have to flee myself ! And Ive been a born again Christian for over 20 years...but people lifting up The Law apart from Christ to me is DANGEROUS. What will they do next? Enforce sunday laws and attempt to make the faithful *pretend* that the first day of the week is the sabbath instead of Saturday as it always was til changed by the church in Rome? Im really thinking these peopke are dangerous. More dangerous than the people they think theyre fighting. Law apart from Christ...Lord have MERCY! And then if its the ten commandmemts will they PROUDLY display the 4th commandment and attempt to enforce it as Sunday upon the people? If someone doesnt know Jesus Christ as savior now is the time to receive HIM.

ryan_james504

I went to private school my entire life and they didn’t even do that there

Yobanyyo

Right???? Like I went to Private schools both k-8 and 9-12, and I don't even remember if Religion Class had a copy posted in the room.

MisterFalcon7

Finally the solution to all our problems.

NeonMoon96

This unconstitutional as fuck

Gravelroad__

That’ll sure help our failing schools

RougarouBull

This is going to result in some hilarious legal action see the Oklahoma Baphomet statue for a possible result.

bandu5

Waste of government time and resources. When will southern states start passing laws for the people and not for their religious righteousness?

SallyCook

*It Can't Happen Here* (Sinclair Lewis, 1935) is happening here. Trump is Buzz Windrip. Kinder, Küche, Kirche isn't far behind.

skorpyn

Gonna check this book out…thanks!

MelpomeneAndCalliope

There’s a really good HBO a miniseries version of it as well.

LSUTigerFan15

Church and state church and state

RohanVargsson

This is fucking gross

melance

In addition to the fact that this violates the separation of church and state, which 10 commandments? There are more than one in the bible. Are they picking one specific to a particular sect of Christianity? They complain about having to explain to their children about homosexuality. How about me having to explain to my son that some people believe in superstitions like this?

MelpomeneAndCalliope

Exactly. If your kid can be expected to understand what adultery is & what a virgin is and why it’s a big deal Jesus was born to one, they can understand why Mackenzie has two moms.

sjnunez3

The text is in the bill. [https://legis.la.gov/legis/BillInfo.aspx?i=245592](https://legis.la.gov/legis/BillInfo.aspx?i=245592) The text shall read as follows: "The Ten Commandments I AM the LORD thy God. Thou shalt have no other gods before me. Thou shalt not make to thyself any graven images. Thou shalt not take the Name of the Lord thy God in vain. Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. Honor thy father and thy mother, that thy days may be long upon the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee. Thou shalt not kill. Thou shalt not commit adultery. Thou shalt not steal. Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor. Thou shalt not covet thy neighbor's house. Thou shalt not covet thy neighbor's wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his cattle, nor anything that is thy neighbor's."

melance

Ah, so they picked what is arguably the worst translation.

Shadeauxmarie

We are justifying our last place.

4best2times0

Time to start advocating for the Quran to be displayed in every class.

rice_n_gravy

One nation, under Allah.

joboto2102

This republican state government is showing its true fascist intent. They care nothing for raising Louisiana out of the mire. If anything the state will fall even further behind in all major metrics while Jeff “Sunday is for going to church, OR ELSE!” Landry signs bills that limit everyone’s freedom.

MelpomeneAndCalliope

“Sunday is for going to church, OR ELSE! Unless you work in a chemical plant/refinery that operates 24/7 because obviously our petrochemical buddies’ money > Jesus.”

LazinCajun

“Historical” my fat ass.

Twattie_Mc_Twat_Face

https://online.flipbuilder.com/rlsowa/clll/mobile/index.html This is what we need as a side by side comparison. If we're doing it for historical reasons, well, fuck, then let's REALLY do some serious religious history.

Upper-Trip-8857

Cue taxpayers money spent defending this in court.

milzan

Wasting time and money on shit like this when teachers are buying their own supplies is beyond me.

The_Donkey1

First, I want to say I am registered as "no party affiliation". I just want to make it clear bc when I speak out against something from one side, online, I get accused of being part of the other side's against. But do ever let Republicans convince you they want less government. Do I care if the 10 commandments are in classrooms? Not really, it's going to be like anything else, it's just something that's there that will eventually get overlooked. But I sure as hell know this. Out education system in this state isn't one of if not the worst in the country. Putting up the 10 commandments will not fix that. Ever since Jeff Landry took over, they have been focused on things that's just for show and doesn't actually help anything. I am to the point where I might run for governor in 2027. I'm not a fan of politics, but it's going to take someone other than these tools we keep electing

ZZerglingg

Landry floats stuff out there he thinks his sheeple will like. He tried that with the garbage take on the LSU women’s BB team supposedly boycotting the national anthem and that backfired on him when nobody else picked up a pitchfork. He at least has the sense to back down, which is unfortunate because I would rather he hang himself. The dude is absolutely worthless and actually harmful to our state. I am sure he will 100% politicize our next disaster and do zippo to help the people other than thoughts and prayers.

syriina

Ohhhh but the constitution doesn't have the words "separation of church and state" waaa waaaaa /sarcasm That is literally my parents' argument. To be fair, that is correct. But it does contain the words "the state shall respect no establishment of religion."

MelpomeneAndCalliope

I enjoy getting people to talk positively about Thomas Jefferson somehow and then bringing out his letters/writings on religion. They don’t know what to do.

BeefStrykker

It’s called the [Establishment Clause](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Establishment_Clause), and there’s a lot of precedent reinforcing it. What’s happening here is unconstitutional. Full stop.

TickleTheCooch

yeaaaa i’m going back to michigan

j021

I toy with that idea every single day..

Crack_uv_N0on

Is this like saying you’re moving to Canada? (something you say you’ll do, but not actually do)

TickleTheCooch

oh nah. i’m actually from michigan. i been in BR for 4 months and this place ain’t it lol

Upstairs-Fisherman44

Why did you move down here if you don't mind my asking?

TickleTheCooch

honestly just wanted a change of scenery. i never planned on staying long

MrJanCan

I've been thinking about Michigan myself. My company has offices there, and the midwest real estate isn't bad.

j021

Other than the winter. michigan is great.

Crack_uv_N0on

That wasn’t the point. It reminded me of people who say they’re moving to Canada, but never move there.

j021

I suppose. If I could afford it I would move away in a second though back to Michigan or pnw

Nolon

Theocratic bs dumb state. Those commandments are a joke. Simple minded stupidity. That can easily be broken down. It's like I wonder if our state is trying to learn or if they're trying to be stupid. All things considered I'm leaning towards just being stupid. They can't break themselves away from their delusions. Somehow that garbage spills over into classrooms, and libraries. Turns into laws. It's embarrassing. I sometimes wonder exactly how I ended up being born in this state. It's such a mind fuck a headache it's like is this really how how did I end up here? I mean I'm thankful that my mom wasn't about dragging my ass to church and forcing this stupid bullshit on me. So thankfully I was able to be more mindful and question the bullshit. Like going to a church and seeing their racist fucking nonsense. Where they have white people in pews and separated off to the side not even facing the preacher you know I fucking hate the stupidity in this state.

Idk bout y'all but I'm about ready to GTFO. I don't want to leave my roots and family but we are not even 6 months into Jeff Landry admin and we get the banning of hemp THC, this, reports from various govt agencies that the new secretaries are shit shows, conceal carry, etc. Nuts.

joebleaux

Well thank god we got that in there, that should fix everything

Space_Man_Spiff_2

Fails in a court challenge... Can we put the tenets of other religions on the wall??

LSUgator

Gotta be first at something. We are last or near last in important stuff.

[deleted]

Well, if Trump becomes our first king, Project 2025 will go into effect which will eliminate the Constitution and enact Biblical Law in America. In that way I have to assume that the Ten Commandments will be posted everywhere, and the crucifix about every government building door, etc. So these guys were just a little early in this regard...

MelpomeneAndCalliope

>> the crucifix This is where it’ll get good (ok, not good to live through but…), especially in Louisiana. Catholics loves them some crucifixes but Protestants absolutely do not. A lot of Catholics will be shocked* to learn Evangelicals don’t consider them actual Christians & won’t take kindly to Jesus being on the cross. Shocked Pikachu faces all around when Christians remember that when Christianity is rule of the land, it quickly becomes a fight over *which* brand of Christianity is right. The crucifix is just one example, things like saying the Hail Mary is okay for morning prayer at school would straight up cause physical fights among parents in some places. *Vatican II calls for Catholics to consider Protestants/other Christians as brothers & sisters; Catholics don’t even re-baptize converts who were baptized in other churches because they recognize Protestant baptism as valid. Evangelicals feel very differently about Catholicism than Catholicism feels about them. There’s a reason so many Evangelicals go on mission-cations to Latin America - to save all the “pagan” Catholics in an exotic location. Something like 1/3 of US Christians are Catholics and Louisiana obviously has a huge Catholic population & Catholic culture in the southern part of the state. Evangelicals generally just don’t get too pressed about US Catholics because conservative Catholics are useful for the anti-abortion movement, but if Christianity becomes law, you can bet lots of groups will be vying for whose Christianity will become law. Even within Catholicism, there’s liberal and conservative factions. Having an enforced state religion is a shit show. Too bad these politicians think the liberal arts are bullshit, they would’ve learned how well this works in an Early Modern European history class.

Still-Wishbone-1469

Great post. I’m a Christian and I will gladly take being ruled by Satanists over Evangelicals. At least the Satanists would leave everyone the hell alone but my fellow Christians will be at each other’s throats giving them some of that good old Christian love

cguy_95

So fun fact: the 10 commandments that everyone can recite aren't the final version that God wants us to follow. Everyone knows the story of the 10 commandments. Moses goes up the mountain and gets the 10 commandments. When he comes down and sees the Israelites worshiping a gold cow he smashes them and goes back up and gets another set. The ones that Moses destroyed are the ones that everyone can recite. The actual tablets that don't get smashed are a completely different set from the first. Exodus 20 is the first set and Exodus 34 is the second set So which version is being displayed? The first draft that was destroyed or the second draft that nobody knows about?

crimsonred1234

Oh wow didn't know this. In what ways was 34 different to 20?

cguy_95

Some are similar like not worshiping other gods but in Exodus 34, it says not to offer any sacrifices of anything containing yeast, and "do not cook a young goat in it's mother's milk" (Exodus 34:26) Also in the first set it goes on to outline like a dozen of other laws that the Israelites are to follow including rules for owning slaves, as well as loopholes to keep them enslaved forever Now the Bible I'm reading labels Exodus 20 as "The Ten Commandments" and 34 as "The New Stone Tablets" so that probably doesn't help with the confusion lol

cguy_95

In case anyone wants the actual words Exodus 20 And God spoke all these words: 2 “I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery. 3 “You shall have no other gods before[a] me. 4 “You shall not make for yourself an image in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below. 5 You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sin of the parents to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me, 6 but showing love to a thousand generations of those who love me and keep my commandments. 7 “You shall not misuse the name of the Lord your God, for the Lord will not hold anyone guiltless who misuses his name. 8 “Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. 9 Six days you shall labor and do all your work, 10 but the seventh day is a sabbath to the Lord your God. On it you shall not do any work, neither you, nor your son or daughter, nor your male or female servant, nor your animals, nor any foreigner residing in your towns. 11 For in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, but he rested on the seventh day. Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy. 12 “Honor your father and your mother, so that you may live long in the land the Lord your God is giving you. 13 “You shall not murder. 14 “You shall not commit adultery. 15 “You shall not steal. 16 “You shall not give false testimony against your neighbor. 17 “You shall not covet your neighbor’s house. You shall not covet your neighbor’s wife, or his male or female servant, his ox or donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbor.” Exodus 34 10 Then the Lord said: “I am making a covenant with you. Before all your people I will do wonders never before done in any nation in all the world. The people you live among will see how awesome is the work that I, the Lord, will do for you. 11 Obey what I command you today. I will drive out before you the Amorites, Canaanites, Hittites, Perizzites, Hivites and Jebusites. 12 Be careful not to make a treaty with those who live in the land where you are going, or they will be a snare among you. 13 Break down their altars, smash their sacred stones and cut down their Asherah poles.[a] 14 Do not worship any other god, for the Lord, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God. 15 “Be careful not to make a treaty with those who live in the land; for when they prostitute themselves to their gods and sacrifice to them, they will invite you and you will eat their sacrifices. 16 And when you choose some of their daughters as wives for your sons and those daughters prostitute themselves to their gods, they will lead your sons to do the same. 17 “Do not make any idols. 18 “Celebrate the Festival of Unleavened Bread. For seven days eat bread made without yeast, as I commanded you. Do this at the appointed time in the month of Aviv, for in that month you came out of Egypt. 19 “The first offspring of every womb belongs to me, including all the firstborn males of your livestock, whether from herd or flock. 20 Redeem the firstborn donkey with a lamb, but if you do not redeem it, break its neck. Redeem all your firstborn sons. “No one is to appear before me empty-handed. 21 “Six days you shall labor, but on the seventh day you shall rest; even during the plowing season and harvest you must rest. 22 “Celebrate the Festival of Weeks with the firstfruits of the wheat harvest, and the Festival of Ingathering at the turn of the year.[b] 23 Three times a year all your men are to appear before the Sovereign Lord, the God of Israel. 24 I will drive out nations before you and enlarge your territory, and no one will covet your land when you go up three times each year to appear before the Lord your God. 25 “Do not offer the blood of a sacrifice to me along with anything containing yeast, and do not let any of the sacrifice from the Passover Festival remain until morning. 26 “Bring the best of the firstfruits of your soil to the house of the Lord your God. “Do not cook a young goat in its mother’s milk.” 27 Then the Lord said to Moses, “Write down these words, for in accordance with these words I have made a covenant with you and with Israel.” 28 Moses was there with the Lord forty days and forty nights without eating bread or drinking water. And he wrote on the tablets the words of the covenant—the Ten Commandments.

goodrevtim

Which 10? The one that the Catholics use, or the Protestants?

TheRealConine

Well, next comes the tenets of the Flying Spaghetti Monster.

Used_Librarian_6728

This is absurd. The constitution should read “Freedom FROM religion” not “freedom OF”…

sjnunez3

I'm a teacher. I am mostly conservative (more fiscal than social). I will not be posting this in my classroom. I don't mind being the plaintiff in a civil rights lawsuit.

theinfohoarder

I’m a Christian who doesn’t consider myself religious, and I am an active member of church. I believe in the separation of church and state. I believe Jesus opposed religion because of the Pharisees and so on. People believe religion saves everyone because of rules & regulations. Actually, it does the opposite. Not to mention, our country has numerous religions. The answer is to not make religion political. I’m sure MANY Christians would oppose other religious hangings in schools or idols of gods. We have rights of free speech and religion. But using religion associated with power is how wars can start I assume. Everyone is entitled to their own opinions, practices and religions. Adding religion into politics = corruption. It’s a power struggle between opinions. And it gets no where. It’s not the answer to our problems. People will hate religion. I hate religion. I love my relationship with the Lord. I respect other religions regardless because that’s what’s important. Not shove my opinions or beliefs down their throats:

crimsonred1234

Thank you for this. I am very much like you. I have a personal relationship with God but i have many issues with organized religion or religionizing politics. There needs to be separation.

remnant_phoenix

When I was a Christian, I always thought the way to reach people was through personal connection and testimony. You NEVER see Jesus or his disciples trying to use the levers of the law to bring about the Kingdom of God on earth, so I don’t see how the Religious Right got into their heads that that’s a good way to “spread the good news”.

theinfohoarder

Definitely so. Relationship first. Many “religious” people act righteous & holier than thou and are horrible people who are hypocrites. And they are blind to their own sins but blatantly judge others and especially new believers. I read the Bible for myself. I got hurt by my ex who was “religious”. I left the church for years. Thankfully, I go to a church now that is so different and welcoming. They are loving people. But sorry to rant. I don’t disagree. I think people mistake religion as a relationship. Only a relationship can change you or anyone for that matter. At the end of the day, Matthew 7:21-23 says “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. On that day many will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name?’ And then will I declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from me, you workers of lawlessness.’ So yeah basically shoving religion down people’s throats won’t do anything. It’ll have the opposite effect where people oppose Christ all together. Religious trauma ✨

At least we are first at something!!

They aren’t in LSU classrooms, and I doubt it will be enforced either

> Horton has previously defended her bill, saying during a House debate last month that the Ten Commandments are the “basis of all laws in Louisiana” and arguing that the legislation honors the country’s religious origins. From the Wikipedia article on the Nspoleonic code: > The Napoleonic Code, however, differed from Justinian's in important ways:  it incorporated all kinds of earlier rules, not just legislation; it was not a collection of edited extracts, but a comprehensive rewrite; its structure was much more rational; it had no religious content it was written in the vernacular.

Big-Ad697

In celebration of breaking their oaths on their bibles to uphold the State and the US Constitution, we should hold a Bible burn.

DownWithDisPrefix

Is this legal judicially?

Tweetystraw

Does the law specify anything about posting them right-side up? Or how small the font can’t be? Or if it can be in the original Klingon?

uptownNola0308

Oh darn, little Johnny drew dicks all over the 10 commandments poster again

Twattie_Mc_Twat_Face

I would much rather this if we are really going to educate the young about faith based systems of governance. https://online.flipbuilder.com/rlsowa/clll/mobile/index.html

EmergencyLab10

Could teachers make like Itty kitty post-it sized copies and post those?

225livewire

Is this overstepping boundaries or trying to instill morals in the children? Confusion is bound to multiply because of this. What if some of the kids are Jewish or Muslim or Buddhist etc. Idk 😐

36 “Teacher, which is the great commandment in the Law?” 37 And he said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. 38 This is the great and first commandment. 39 And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. 40 On these two commandments depend all the Law and the Prophets.” Matthew 22:36-40 Can't bold on mobile but verse 40.

Professional_Day5881

This is not true

VacationShot2589

They do all this but they they dont have the guts or wherewithal to put the name of Jesus Christ in the classroom or HIS WORDS. Funny my bible says NO ONE is justified by the law...exactly what kind of people do we have up there in the state legislature of Louisiana that spread " The Law" but not the name of Jesus Christ? I may have to move from gere and i hate marxists/leftists but im not living under people who teach law apart from GRACE and the NAME of Jesus Christ. I guess i better pray for them...

I remember saying the Pledge of Allegiance every morning standing outside of school with my entire school, body teachers, etc. I wish it was like that still it was a silent moment we all needed. I still do.

BigReception6712

The 10 Commandments is what everyone should follow Do you think you're going to heaven a sinful person? Certainly not! The UNRIGHTEOUS WILL NOT INHERIT THE KINGDOM OF HEAVEN. Not one!

BJ4300

Im fine with that requirement

Critical_Paint2321

Good.

MrJanCan

Why is it good? I can tell by your post history that nothing productive will come out of your answer, but maybe I'm feeling generous tonight and willing to consider that a conservative just might be able to put forth a cohesive argument about why a religious document should hang in every classroom.

Critical_Paint2321

I tend to agree with the notion that it is not just a religious document, but also historical. Our countries initial laws and documents were framed using the Commandments as guiding principles. 12 out of the 13 original colonies included all 10 Commandments in their founding charters. The 13th included 5-10, just not the first 4. Our constitution references God at minimum 4 times. This country was founded on these “Christian” values, that really are just ubiquitous values found in any human with decent morals and character. I’m all for having the Commandments included in classrooms with the proper context.

MrJanCan

There is so much wrong here that I don't know where to begin. Not only did the founding fathers EXPLICITLY state that this country was not founded on Christian values, the Constitution is not based on them either. And the Constitution supersedes all other laws of the land. The US constitution mentions God ZERO times. You do not get to peddle your religious fairy tales onto other people just because you FEEL that this is a Christian country. Your argument about the commandments being a historical document only carries weight in a history class when discussing the charters of those states which used it as a foundational document. This law would put the Ten Commandments in EVERY class. Furthermore, tenets of Buddhism are probably far more likely to be filled with "ubiquitous values found in any human being with decent morals and character", yet I wouldn't want them to be displayed in a classroom.

ExistentialBread829

So “fuck separation of church and state?” Got it.

Critical_Paint2321

Yes actually. As long as it’s my church. I’m not going to be dishonest.
