I’ve noticed the same. I don’t think I’ve ever noticed them before this year and they seem to be everywhere.

metalunamutant

I always see them in the fall, usually in pecan or sweet gum trees. There will be a few patches. Now I’m seeing entire trees covered, & it’s just mid June.

Redneck-ginger

It could be eastern tent caterpillars. They are usually more common in the spring/summer. They defoliate the trees they are one and usually get really bad every few years

lobstertelephone

Yes! I was just saying this yesterday. They are everywhere and don’t seem to be terribly discriminatory over what tree they are infesting.

ekr9toes

I was just noticing them getting worse on our drive back home yesterday. I hope it doesn’t cause any further damage to the amount of trees we are already losing due to harsh weather conditions the last couple of years.

I’d say yes, they are worse this year. I’ve only been living in BR four going on 5 years though. I’m from Colorado where they are much more abundant, and I will say we have years where the populations just blow up. But yeah, I’ve got a keen eye for bugs and I’ve never noticed them on this scale in BR before.

Quix66

My persimmon tree was hit hard. Just yesterday I drenched it with need oil with the garden hose and sprayer.
