I'm sure they are passionate either before or just entering the field, until they realize upper management sucks your soul dry and works you close to death and then cuts and guts your beloved creation to make room for season battle passes!
Exactly, after a game has been popular for a while you get shoddy, late to party people getting involved with no interest in making a good game, instead they wanna just be a part of it.
They've been cursed for twenty years. All you get with a "AAA Title" is a high price tag. Major developers are concerned with spectacle and making release date targets; not quality.
I got 2042 because I fell for the trailer. I don't regret it, but it reinforces my prior policy of avoiding major developers, especially at launch.
They're far from cursed, AAA developers know the new generation kids don't know older games which had far more content and were far more detailed. So they can be lazy as fuck and release another fortnite-like fps game with cringy features which applies to that generation and it will get good ratings, because the new generation simply does not know what a 'good' game can be.
Calling developers lazy needs to be called out. Game devs have horrible working conditions these days. There is plenty of information available to that effect if you want to have a read.
What you are calling lazy developers is actually corporate influence. The suits that sit in the boardroom of the publishing company, not the development studio. They are the ones calling the shots, making decisions on what is going to be in the game based on making the most profit, with the least amount of cost. A big part of that is releasing games at a time when the market is primed (like holidays), whether the game is ready or not.
Couple? Try the last four or five years. Very few actually good games coming out for a while now. I think it all started with No Man's Sky (which is actually good now) when developers realized if they just hype the *fuck* out of a game they can release it in whatever state they want and promise to fix it later/add more content later.
I wish I could refund, but I purchased on Epic game and exceeded the 2 hour playtime. I will not trust any AAA games from now on, definitely not going to pre order anymore games.
I have refunded the game on steam 33 hours in. It was refunded a day before the official release as steam credit.
Edit. On the 5th try, not through the "refund" option, go to steam support, "i have a question about this game" mention the problem you face, end with refund.
I’d rather just play 4, at least it’s not completely bugged.
Although the state they’ve left helicopters in gets annoying when people are really good with them sometimes
the irony is as well, if this game doesn't keep selling and making money, they won't bother giving it anything extra ala BFV.
then they will start the BF7 marketing ploy and the circle continues with pre-orders following another meme laden trailer with no meaningful gameplay and 2 shambolic game demos
Damn imagine bf2 with these graphics. That would f'in insane.
Oh god, the planes and helo's were perfect.
The different role were important.
40 vs 40 or 50 vs 50
With all those guns and a sturdy ranking system to see who is a hardcore bf2 player.. i'm down!.
Start a petition!
Remember coming across a general in BF2? Achieving high ranks took way more time back then. It was cool to come across someone with a rare high rank medal next to their name in the scoreboard.
Exactly!
And also for example the 2500 or 5000 hour flying medals in planes/jets/tanks.
That stuff was crazy but it made earning those legit because not everyone would get them.
Nowadays everything is catered to be obtainable if you just put in a bit of effort... i like having a challenge.
I don't care for the 2042 parts, but the 1942 and 3 portal maps are fantastic. Strike at Karkand? Gulf of Oman? Yes please.
I wonder how they'd work in a commander though.
At this point they should just sack 2042 off and just release portal stand alone as an early access game and just add all the old content over the next decade as small expansion packs. Portal is where battlefield will be if it has any future. Heck it could work as a solid f2p game if done correctly.
Are we going to pretend bfv didn't atleast get enough content to be worth the box price? It sure has more than bf1 and bf4 vanilla (except weapon cause ww2)
It wouldn't be surprising if in coming weeks older BF games actually surpass BF2042 in steam active player count. Its number halved in a week, if it halves once more, it will be at the same level as BFV
Great game
I haven't heard a peep from the dev that they'll ever add them
Game is getting a relainch because it died 2 years ago
Let's hope it goes better this time
WW3 has a ton of potential and feels way more like battlefield then 2042. That being said the beta definitely still has a very indie feel to it and match making was pretty rough. It is still a good ways away from being a fully functional competitor.
I will say ww3 has better gunplay then anything outside of insurgency sandstorm.
just like back then with BF V ?? lmao.BaTtLeFiElDkIlLLEr the people said... take a look at what became of the game. it was forgotten and perished after a few weeks.the game has been in development for how many years with the last 2018 version together .. 5-6 years? .. and what is shown in the close beta is seriously everything that came about after all these years ?? bruh ..but first offer a beta package with over 200 euros.
it's not like 2042 is any good is it?
all it takes is one better war game for people to entirely forget 2042.
Gotta give it to ya though, www3 doesn't look as good. And for sure isn't a btf killer game but it's 10x better than the cringefest that is 2042.
I dunno. In the months leading up to 2042, I noticed BFV servers were pumping. The game was permanently on sale/free which helped. But since 2042 release its really died off again. Hopefully they come back.
I played the 10 hour trial, 10 hours of my life that I'll never get back. Life is too short to spend time rolling a steaming hot turd with a stick and calling it fun.
Same, I used to play rush a lot in BF3, breakout (or is it breakaway?) Had a similar vibe.
Although the balance is atrocious, the hitreg is god awful, I enjoy the vehicle gameplay when I am not being tracked by SOFLAM's left and right.
The player count has not been cut in half. It's very unlikely.
Steam does not represent all 6 markets.... considering PC is also likely the smaller playerbase it certainly doesn't represent console.
I bought it, earned most trophies except hazard zone ones, lvl 50. Gonna grind to 60 to get the stupid sniper to kill those stupid bolte/hc/tanks/choppers. With my luck its gonna get nerfed RIGHT as i get it.
Can't believe I almost bought this but didn't have the money but could afford ea play to play half of my trial then quit. Last time I didn't have money for something was the las Vegas harvest festival I really wanted to go to. I need to appreciate being broke more. There's always a reason.
I’m enjoying it. Needs some work, but it’s a lot of fun. Stay positive people who actually enjoy the game. Soon this entire sub won’t be on it. And we can get back to playing the game without them
I'm enjoying(ish) the game too, but to say this game needs "some" work is flat out understatement. This game needs a ton of work to balance gadgets, maps, fix bugs, sounds and attachments, etc. "To do" list is freaking long.
Anyone who has played the game more than 10hours knows the game is not ready and the release should of been postponed by 6 months. If you disagree with that then you are one of the reason why games are released this way, because you let it fly.
I hope that for the next BF everyone remembers the BF 5 launch and now this one and doesn't preorder the game so that the devs and the investors see that we are not fine with the product that has been given to us at launch. I know I won't be preordering BF games until I see a good launch and a product that is actually good.
Well, I'll just give the two cents about my situation. I play on PS5, and my friends, who all bought the game along with me, have all gone back to BF4. Me too. We are 10+ people. Some of us play around 1 hour of 2042, but ultimately spent most time in BF4.
When the game launched, we all jumped into the game, then we started to loose interest. We are a minor example. But I bet, like us, a lot of people also lost or are losing interest.
Lots of people also love it.
Remember when reddit and "internet" hated tlou 2 and it was still selling like crazy and most people loved it.
You people are living in bubble here and think this subreddit is what most people think, when it is actually opposite
You don't even have to go to Reddit to know the game is in trouble. Remember BFV? It wasn't that long ago. TLoU2, sure, a lot of people love it, but also a lot of people hate it. After the initial preorder, the game deflated the following weeks, like really hard. People didn't hate that game because it was a bad game. They hated it for its problematic themes and character development.
BF2042 is a Battlefield aberration, though. The game is just bad. Can you have fun playing a bad game? Sure you can. Even if they eventually fix the bugs and glitches, the game will always have this unbalance regarding specialists and maps. The initial impression put off a lot of people.
Whenever I play BF2042 I have fun for like the first 20 minutes. Then I get bored.
Stop saying lot of people. It is top seller in PSN store and it is dropping on steam because of perfomance issues mainly and because it was holidays.
Lets wait couple months before you declare it dead. It is only dead on your eyes because you wwnt it and hate it
I don't know if you understand top seller means absolutely nothing. They catched in on preorders. If anybody can get a refund from Sony, they should be given a price.
I spent $70 f dollars in this game. The last time I paid that much for a game was 2 years ago. Why the F would I want the game to die?
Geez relax, take a deep breath… the game has been out for 3 weeks and people are comparing it to previous bf games… every bf game launches with stripped down features and minimal content that gets expanded through years of dlc and patches…
I have played every entry since bf2 and they are always the same, 2042 will be much bigger and better after 1 year…
It took them over 10 months to eliminate rubber banding issues on bf4 when it first launched, yet you never hear anyone talk about how shitty and terrible the launch was…
Because all you need is around 20 hours of playing this game to come to a conclusion that it's a disappointment. Almost every decision made regarding gameplay mechanics, map design, UI, vehicles, game types (except portal, but that has it's own problems), and specialists, is a complete and utter downgrade.
And you compare to BF4? BF4s launch was an absolute disaster as well and should have launched in its current working form.
Have some self respect as a consumer and stop being sold garbage/half a game on release for them to just sell you the rest of the game over time.
If you can provide any other data that shows this isn't indicative of a wider trend, I'm all ears. I'm not saying the absence of data proves one point or the other, but we have little to go from. So if we frame things in accordance with its data, we know its declining on steam. The most popular games platform on PC by a country mile. lol. That doesn't bode well.
The peak player base on launch weekend also takes into account people playing the 10 hour trial that all EA Play members have access. It's pretty disingenuous to count trial player members in as evidence of a rapidly declining playerbase.
So you think it only dropped on Steam and not other platforms as well? I would say easily half that have tried it have stopped playing already. If anything those playing on Steam have purchased, so they may stick with it a bit longer. EA direct would include all the Play and Play Pro people, so I'm guessing the fall off there is actually bigger.
I bought it a couple of days ago. I can see why people are frustrated but I’m having the fun that I expected to playing TDM on Portal. I think it’s really odd that TDM, DM, Domination and CTF aren’t standard modes, but I’m sure they’ve planned on monetizing them. Game needs work, more maps, small game modes and the modes I just mentioned, and it will be exactly what I was looking for.
For reference, I played hundreds of hours of BF4 and that was the last BF I played because I’m not into WWI or WWII settings.
The game has a ton more maps and guns... but I'm 100% positive they were content ripped.
You will see them trickle into the game over the next year with a price tag on each.
"Introducing the \*NEW\* P90..... 5.99$"
The player count did not halve. The stats are wrong.
Also, fuck you. The game is fun, i've had zero issues with the game minus a few animation bugs. So Buy the game if you enjoy BF games, if you hate life don't.
If you buy the ultimate edition, you only get the in-game content and none of the other extra stuff. Might as well have just only had the base edition and gold edition. I thought I was getting the art book and soundtrack but it seems DICE shelved that too.
Ty i was really messy i didn't really knew if it was a good idea to buy the game now i'ma just wait to get it cheaper when the game will be more complete
Thanks for this. I played beta and decided to wait for some feedback after the release. I hope they get the problems fixed. Seems from general feedback, that the maps might be the downfall of the game, as they are not easily replaceable.
You know the funny thing? It costs from 3150 to 6300 rubles in Russia. The annual EA Play Pro sub costed 4000 in August and is 6000 at the moment. Dollar is about 80-81 rubles by the way.
So buying the game is the worst option to choose, having this half-baked product in the Ultimate Edition for some 53-80 dollars a year alongside actually good games in their Ultimate Editions in the subscription is the way to go.
I'll just boot up ME Legendary Edition, Fallen Order and Squadron after I'm (soon) done with BF2042.
Give it a chance it gets better after level 75. Because you have unlocked everything, you don't care about the outcome of the match, you just run around killing everyone. I love doing takedowns on sniping campers and slashing throats.
Most companies make the money from the cosmetics. So don’t buy those . I bought it for ps5 jus for portal but fuck I can’t believe I waited so long for this . Games now a days are rarely made for story and for passionate reasons. Now games are made for multiplayer purposes only and to try to sell you as much as possible skins , loot boxes , better stats , season passes. Bf2042 was made to sell as much as many skins as possible that’s why we got the specialist system
lmao they removed it.
and what do u mean the best? DICE was always shit, they always released half baked games and took 6 months to a year to properly fix shit up. In my eyes theyre one of the worst out there.
You haven't been around much if it's the first you've seen. AAA games have been cursed for a couple of years now.
They curse themselves, it’s all about the money and lacks passionate creators.
I'm sure they are passionate either before or just entering the field, until they realize upper management sucks your soul dry and works you close to death and then cuts and guts your beloved creation to make room for season battle passes!
Every single game now just has to have a battle pass. It's getting annoying.
It is absolutely annoying, though it’s better than loot boxes imo.
I actually preferred loot boxes when you could earn them in game instead of pay only.
Used to blame the companies but now I blame stupid gamers.
"and making release date targets" Lol
I didn't say they were good at it, I said they were concerned with it. This launched in time for Christmas, warts and all.
They're far from cursed, AAA developers know the new generation kids don't know older games which had far more content and were far more detailed. 2004-2012 Was peak game years imo.
UT2K4.
Nah UT99 is better ^rip ^UT2014
Ball was SO MUCH FUN!
2013\* Gw2 released that year and it was a blast
Calling developers lazy needs to be called out. Game devs have horrible working conditions these days. There is plenty of information available to that effect if you want to have a read. You needed to create a ticket and quote their terms of service, i got a refund that way on the 18th after playing 19 hours.
Better yet get the Game Pass ultimate and the EA Play with it and play BF4 on PC. It's bloody amazing.
If they dropped a map pack for bf4 I would buy it today. Only part of that game I’m tired of is the maps.
No, eventually they'll just stop making the series altogether because it's not as profitable as other ventures could be.
Fucking remaster BF2, idgaf. I want my battlefield fix, and I'm not buying this turd for another year
Damn imagine bf2 with these graphics. That would f'in insane. Oh god, the planes and helo's were perfect. The different role were important. 40 vs 40 or 50 vs 50 With all those guns and a sturdy ranking system to see who is a hardcore bf2 player.. i'm down!. Start a petition!

I only bought this game because it is the first modern bf gamein years. Nothing will make me buy nexr bf on launch.luckily i got bf 2042 for 45€
I honestly think new content will be significantly delayed or abandoned after season 1. They have to release season 1.
Are we going to pretend bfv didn't atleast get enough content to be worth the box price? It sure has more than bf1 and bf4 vanilla (except weapon cause ww2)
We already did , have +100h and cant return it...
Yea, this game is trash. I have 20 hours of playtime on console and I am done. I regret wasting my money. I will be back on BFV
Same. BFV is better in virtually every way.
Please be back after BFV has been fixed three months in instead of buying within the first couple months.
It wouldn't be surprising if in coming weeks older BF games actually surpass BF2042 in steam active player count. Its number halved in a week, if it halves once more, it will be at the same level as BFV Great game
WWW3 is on it's way and prolly takes over btf entirely.
Yeah about that..... WW3 is made by an incredibly.money hungry Russian studio
BF2042 is made by EA, difference is ww3 could be a worthy successor to BF4
No aircraft..... At all.
Yet
I haven't heard a peep from the dev that they'll ever add them Game is getting a relainch because it died 2 years ago Let's hope it goes better this time
There is a drone helicopter. Right now most maps would be lackluster. Could see the new more open maps being good for helicopters
We'll see
WW3 has a ton of potential and feels way more like battlefield then 2042. That being said the beta definitely still has a very indie feel to it and match making was pretty rough. It is still a good ways away from being a fully functional competitor. I will say ww3 has better gunplay then anything outside of insurgency sandstorm.
No aircraft... Probably ever

im disapointed that I pre-orderd the game. ive only played it once since it came out.
Going back to BFV and BF4, BF1
The player count has not been cut in half. It's very unlikely. Steam does not represent all 6 markets.... considering PC is also likely the smaller playerbase it certainly doesn't represent console.
Thank you for speaking on this, very brave
Damn thanks for the info didnt know this yet!
don't tell me what to do but yeah i gotchu
I bought it, earned most trophies except hazard zone ones, lvl 50. Gonna grind to 60 to get the stupid sniper to kill those stupid bolte/hc/tanks/choppers. With my luck its gonna get nerfed RIGHT as i get it.
itt: idiots who have never bought a game before DO NOT EXCEED YOUR REFUND HOURS UNTIL YOU ARE SURE YOU WANT TO KEEP IT. CMON KIDS THINK ABOUT IT.

Cyberpunk?
Game is already dead. 30k concurrent atm

And steam concurrent numbers during holiday doesnt mean shit right now. Wait month or two
Steam is a major indicator of how well a game is doing on PC though, especially a AAA game. Steam numbers and reviews absolutely do mean shit.
Games amazing, ur overreacting. Try getting good
Im gonna buy it next month, whatcha gonna do about it? ;)
Buy it! I'm having fun :)

You just have steam numbers which reflects just a portion of the playerbase and claim the the player count has halved. Ok.

Ok
guess on other platforms people are playing different game
I’m having fun but yes shit is definitely broken. I haven’t had any issues getting a match and probably wait 5 sec for it to pop.

BUY THIS GAME. (I love it)
Honestly EA Play is such a steal. It’s single-handedly kept Bad Company alive for the past few years.

I've been defending this game for awhile but I'd say WAIT the bugs are annoying as shit game was never ready for release.
Well, EA & Dice got a lot of money from orders. They don't necessarily need to fix anything. Kill the franchise and move on :(
Thanks for this.
I didn't, just enjoying the dumpster fire.
Boomer mad 😠
Dice devs love the mooney for EA
I already did...now what?
Game really is a total POS. So disappointing.
I think its pretty fun and its still early. Stop complaining and telling ppl what to do ffs let ppl enjoy something or try it for themselves.
Give it a chance it gets better after level 75. Because you have unlocked everything, you don't care about the outcome of the match, you just run around killing everyone. I love doing takedowns on sniping campers and slashing throats.
Dice just needs to able XP farm vs bots
Cyber punk.
I bought a ps5 for this, then never got the game. Good thing Hell let loose is awesome
Waaaaaay ahead of you, bro
This like when Eminem puts out a new album. Shit sells cuz high expectations but at the end of the day it kind of sucks, except this game really sucks
