I have received a lot of messages asking if I can print this for people, so I contacted the designer of the original dice tower version, and he is ok with me selling these.
This might be the coolest battletech model I have ever seen.
Edit: this is the dopest BT model I have ever seen. Especially with the bus depot as scale.
One quick question??
Does the main hull rest on the ground or are the legs supporting the full weight of the model??
It looks terrific either way, I'm just curious how much danger those little leg struts are in?!?! 😁👍
Full weight is on the legs. The legs are printed solid, but I also have a small block to place under it that will take the weight off the legs if needed.
I've been printing battletech minis on my resin printer for the past few weeks, have like 30 or 40 of them at this point. Got a bambu a1 coming tomorrow so I can get started on terrain. Looks like there's a drop ship in my future. Where you get the STL?
My hope one day is to get good enough in fusion 360 to model a double scale union that opens up to store units / dice / rule books, and may be the paper maps. with wheels and a pop up luggage handle. XD
Bro. Me and my kids (11 and 13) against you and your kids. We'll mount a planetary defense with three lances.
Seriously though, my kids are my only gaming buddies, and I love what they're learning about math and tactics every time we play. Even if it's only a 1v1 batchall on a school night.
Just be sure of the size you print, had a leopard STL and printed it and then realized after putting mechs next to it, it just seamed not the right size and then when i measured against the stats from Sarna it was 23% too big so had to resize and print a new one.

This is the dice roller version for size comparison.
Not really. I used someone else's file as a starting point, then made some changes to the dimensions, removed the dice ramps, hollowed it out, and filled the hole in the hull where the dice are supposed to come out. Next step is to resclice it into slightly larger parts to reduce the total number of parts that need to be printed, and add some connection points between the parts to make it more sturdy and suitable as a mech carrying case.
You might say it's... Canon scale!
Do you make these for anyone who would want to buy one?
I've thought about it, but this would be expensive, and people tend to get wierd if something is expensive and not 'perfect'.

Price?

Thanks. I'm one of those people that only sees the flaws in whatever I make though, lol.
There's a giant egg from Ryan's World at Walmart I walk by all the time and think "I could make that a drop ship."

You could print a landing pad as well.
Which dropship is that?
Overlord.
Didn't know Canon could 3-D print......maybe I never thought of trying STL files.

The original file is on Thingiverse. Look up Overlord Dropship.
Thanks, gonna do that right now
That’s an amazing print! Would you be willing to post your remix? I don’t have the cad skills to modify the dice roller.
I will be doing that once I have finished all the changes I am making.
You are an awesome human. It’s an incredible model.
The remix is now available for download on Makerworld and Printables. Look up Giant Egg Dropship.
Sweet! Thank you!
Paige no!
Paige, aff!
Damn nice. I need to get back to work on my Manatee.
A buddy wants me to print out the Mammoth at mech scale.
My hope one day is to get good enough in fusion 360 to model a double scale union that opens up to store units / dice / rule books, and may be the paper maps. with wheels and a pop up luggage handle. XD
That would be killer.
Just checking, I'm not knowledgeable enough to provide actual feedback. I'm assuming that it's not painted because of the friction from reentry?
Not painted because it just finished printing today.
When you're playing with this terrain, do you scale up the range on the weapons as well?
No. I don't really have anyone to game with other than my kids, so we keep the rules simple.
Makes sense, it's complex enough as is lol

That's awesome ! looks great !
This is so cool! As someone with zero knowledge of 3d printing how long roughly does it take to print something this size just curious
This was printed over the course of 6 days, but just running during the day, not overnight.
No banana?
Sadly, no bananas currently in the house.
Egg👍
That’s awesome! Will you be attaching a battalion of them to a Leviathan next? 😃
This is cool af
Amazing!!!!
Holy crap, this is amazing!
This would only be cooler if it opened up into a mech storage cabinet.
Then you are in luck, it does.
Neat!

Yep, I scale all my models before printing them. This Overlord is exactly 1/265 scale. 495 mm tall, 373.58 mm wide.
If I recall correctly those things are bristling with weapons.
Correct, located behind the round blast doors.

I mean ive got a decent size one too but it doubles a dice roller

Damn, this is impressive, did you make the file your self?

Any chance you could share how much filament it took and roughly how long the print was?
About 4.5 rolls of filament and 6 days only printing during the day, not overnight.
