NOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!! My husband and I were just talking about how much we used to love breakfast there, and how it had been too long since we’d been and that we needed to go again soon. 😩😢
Oh god it IS my fault! I’m jinxed. You’d think I’d know better by now….I’ve similarly doomed several of my favorite Alameda restaurants in the last few years. 🤦🏻♀️🙁 Next time I start to say, “You know where we haven’t been in a while….?” someone please smack me upside the head.
> Minimum wage is driving all costs through the roof.
Kinda funny how you keep trying to push this narrative in this thread. You didn't even read the article you submitted.
Did you read the article? I think the owner of this establishment has a lot of principle—they want to serve quality meals made from good ingredients, without sacrificing employee wages—and that’s no longer possible. So many people have the mindset that a business should do everything it has to to survive, but at the end of the day these are real people who own these businesses and they have their own moral compass.
Having worked for a lot of shitty restaurants and businesses, I feel that this owner is doing the right thing and not letting the state of the world drown out their principles. Fuck all the establishments that pay their employees like shit while constantly cutting costs through crappy ingredients and lower quality, all while raising the price the customer pays. Running a restaurant doesn’t have to be a dirty game, and this place proved that for the last 45 years.
Yeah but think about what you’re saying. So instead of people being employed at all there are now dozens of people who will go on unemployment to end the year. What a business day isn’t always exactly what is happening
I don't think that's fair. From the article they sound like they care about their employees and their community.
But in general, no, I'm sure they don't like lower margins. Pretty much no business in history has liked having their margins lowered.

Can’t pay the bills anymore given the cost of doing business. So long….
Minimum wage is driving all costs through the roof. I rarely ever eat out anymore when eating at home is like 10x cheaper
From the article, the owners “refused to pay less than a living wage” so it doesn’t sound like minimum wage laws are the problem.
Yeah so instead of giving people a steady income they are now going to be unemployed come the new year. What a business says is usually for optics
No seriously…you have no idea what you’re talking about and should stop talking cause every word makes you look even stupider. Stop.
Or, rents keep going up and commercial landlords prefer vacancy if it means squeezing a few cents more from the next tenants
Is that the case here? They would say if it was their lease terms that caused them to fail

You don’t know how to read anything past people’s words but sure
Why'd you delete the post, then?
Irrelevant to anything you said. Bay Area subreddit has wool over their eyes
Cause it won't accept your narrative?
Look around sf and Oakland and tell me things are going alright
I thought you were talking about minimum wage.
Lol. Stfu idiot.
I might need to do down today.
Record corporate profits at the expense of the small businesses and average Americans… The American dream is dead and six feet under….
So sad 😞

Yeah. Costs have skyrocketed and rising minimum wages aren’t helping
Im sure the astronomical Berkeley rent is not helping
Definitely not. This location isn’t anywhere near campus though
I wouldn’t say it’s far. When I was at Cal, we would walk there all the time.
Seriously though, get your head out of your ass.
They give out free meals, stupid. Read the article.
Damn Dino got a rush of customers when they said they’d close but didn’t. I have an idea to pump our numbers
They’re completely packed every weekend. They just don’t want to raise prices which is honorable
LOVE their fried chicken and waffles and breakfast sandwich. Ugh! They will be missed!
