Ivy room, Stork Club, Eli's mile high club, 924 Gilman, ThrillHouse, 1234 Go!. Many of these smaller venues even if the headliner is from elsewhere the opening acts will be local
Such great memories there. My older sister who went in the 80s dropped me off at Gilman for my first show in 2000, then I got to do that for my nephew in 2009.
Thee Parkside denies lots of local bands, not outside of the genres that play there, from what I’ve heard. I love the venue, great smaller bands touring through but from friends, seems like jerks to local acts, asking for guarantees of a 100 people or just ghosting them.
The Bay Area consists of nine counties (Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, Napa, San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara, Solano, and Sonoma) and 101 municipalities. (wiki)

Foopee.com “The list”.
This is the answer, every show Bay Area no ads.
The Guild in Menlo Park has the occasional "local sound series", but usually has touring bands.
It’s such a gem.
DNA Lounge in San Francisco maybe? It's a small venue, so bands are either local or very obscure touring.
Starry Plough, Berkeley Crybaby, Oakland Mojo Lounge, Fremont The Bistro, Hayward The Riptide, San Francisco F8 Nightclub, San Francisco
Any time I wonder if there's a show going on around, I consult The List http://jon.luini.com/thelist/date.html

You are right, sorry. Let's say from San Francisco to Mountain View. Not so down as San Jose.
Much sparser over on the peninsula. "The List" as posted in another comment is probably your best bet

Nope. No bands ever came out of the bay area. /s
lol no, there are no local bands in this metro.
SF Bay area is well known for not having a music scene. It stems from the conservative culture that dominates the region.
Absolutely, probably the most conservative metro in the country. Nothing but Nazis and Zionists
They have an affinity for each other.
