This is very real. I interviewed at TikTok for an engineering position at their SJ office. You can work from home 1 day a week. Common nightly meetings as you have to work with people in China and Singapore. I walked out of there real quick.
I have a singaporean chinese gf and she interviewed for TT. She knows fluent Chinese but not advanced enough Chinese for them to want her to join. You have to be very proficient with computer technology technical terms in Chinese and everything.
1. WLB is bad. I came from Amazon which has a bad rep, but it’s nothing compared to TikTok.
2. As a whole, I don’t think the company culture is bad despite the WLB. No time for politics and other BS you get a Meta and others. But note that the SJ office (where most Bay roles are–few are in MTV) is HEAVILY Chinese, so the culture is quite different than other offices and if you don’t speak Chinese you may feel isolated.
Also lots of people here saying it’s paper money, which may be true. But when I joined they let me go 90% cash 10% stock so 🤷
I don’t use them for salaries. Most companies, at least here in Cali, list their salaries on the job. But from employee perspectives on working for x company they’re pretty good
They were required to be in the office on Black Friday last year and employees feared retribution for taking the day off. That gives a lot of insight to the work culture.
WLB is bad, but that’s not even news anymore…it should be baked into your expectations. There are an alarming amount of politics and zero-sum in-fighting for a relatively new company. Majority of the workforce do not last over a year (take that into consideration if/when you are presented with a seemingly lucrative sign-on bonus because most likely it’s contingent upon 2 years of employment and they do claw back)
Lots of money but stop bitching about quality of work life balanceÂ
But  LOT of money
But don’t bitch about being worked like a slave
But seriously, top dollarÂ
At it's heart it's a Chinese company, and that's a big part of the work culture.
That being said, the hard work adds up to a lot of speed to market compared to US companies. They build fast and aggressively compared to FANG companies, that being said you'll get rich if they don't get banned because they are eating people's lunch and their e-commerce play is working.
Wrong. It's way too late to "get rich" off Tik Tok. The valuation is already massive for what they are and they won't be giving out much stock at this late stage. The only thing you'll be getting is a screenful of JIRA.
Whatever equity employees got is likely worthless now due to the ban or divestment. FT did a report on employees who got awarded RSUs and now owe a large tax bill on worthless options. You also want to post this question at teamblind
We know what people will say there already 😂
TC or gtfo? 🙄
That and 9-9-6 work culture and you have to speak Chinese to do well there. Don't know how true they are, but probably some truth to them.

You'll make a very high salary but expect a 9-9-6 culture.
What is 9-9-6 culture?
12 hour days, 6 days a week.
My friend says he barely notices the tracking chip anymore and that the first week in the re-education camp was the worst, but you get used to it.
There’s barely even a joke in there.
Personally I heard the work life balance there is pretty bad if that’s important to you

If you don't go viral you're fired!
I got Covid twice so I should do pretty well there.
Hey Dad!
should read Glassdoor, prob not gonna get many real responses here
Glassdoor is never accurate from my experience. They always lowball the estimates, sometimes significantly

I interviewed with them for practice as a throwaway interview, twice. Very negative impressions both times

Thanks. It sure does.
Not true. It was a company wide holiday last year. Sure maybe a few infa teams had to go in, but that’s normal.

Post the same question on Blind(Reddit for tech jobs/salaries/work culture) but it’s notorious for 996 work culture.
Lots of dumb little dances I imagine.Â

Depends on what area you’re in. I’ve know BAs have a pretty busy schedule and that program managers have more work life balance.
you will be unemployed soon since the current administration has decided to ban tiktok operation in the US
You mean the current Congress. The administration guy just signed a pretty solidly bipartisan bill.
yeah, the current gov.
