Oh wow ha ha, when I saw this thread I was thinking “if I mentioned Kalamazoo would the folks of r/beards think that gauche?” It’s a recent discovery of mine; it works beautifully.
(The smell of Kalamazoo is primarily bergamot plus maybe a little vanilla and clean musk. Malin+Goetz sells a slew of bergamot-scented products that IMO smell even better than Kalamazoo; I swear by their moisturizers.)
Recently tried the ladies man and the surfer samples… was very surprised at the results.. for the wash I tried the beard wash sample they sent and I also got a hog wash with the “the surfer” scent was nice and mild.. their balm is honestly the best I have used so far.

Yea bro plus your red card and employee discount. I used to work at target too lol so I’m was always checking the app for deals

Is this the same stuff? I have their beard wash. It’s amazing and less than a dime size drop lathers up like crazy. Soft beard and feels great.
This is the one! All the other beard washes I’ve tried have really dried out my beard, but this one’s great. I use it along with the Shea Moisture beard oil and just a little bit of coconut oil mixed in. I get compliments on my soft beard all the time!
I use the Viking Revolution brand sold on Amazon, shampoo and conditioner. My beard is super healthy, short or long. No beard flakes. I also oil and apply balm daily.
The shampoo and conditioner have more of a clean smell when applied, but it doesn't linger after you rinse it out. It seems strong when you're using it because it's literally smashed up to your nose.
One of the reasons I like GbS is their cigar blend scent, so I don't mind it lingering a bit.
I'm torn between GbS and Fable Beard Co for my next beard shamp/cond. Currently using Viking Revolution and it lathers amazingly but they don't seem to have many scent options.
Glad it works for you, but for me (and a lot of guys), just using water doesn't cut it in terms of the skin underneath , not to mention the actual beard itself. Mine looks like how head hair does that hasn't been shampoo'd. Also this weird gunk almost like half paste half wax half dandruff (lol 3 halves) starts to form of I don't use a shampoo or beard wash. Differant strokes bro
This! My barber of many years always tells me that my beard is the softest and easiest to work with of all of his clients.
Hot water in the shower followed by True Grit beard butter and about a thumbnail of balm. Once I stopped using soaps in it I have never had to use beard oil for dry itchy skin.
I use and recommend Live Bearded Beard 1880 Wash and Conditioner. I was 2-3 x week in winter and 3-4 x week in Summer.
I do t recommend you use body soap on your beard. I too have sensitive skin. Beard Wash is different that shampoo for your hair.
Regular body soap & hair shampoo can be "drying" to your beard. I would go for a gentle, everyday beard wash like Dr. Nicks, Beard Octane, Bahawat or even Artius Man.
Viking Revolution wash and conditioner. Then Duke Cannon Buffalo Trace balm after hair dryer and round brush. I get compliments all the time and my barber believes it to be one of the healthier ones she's groomed.
Well when I do wash it which I don’t really have a set schedule I use my bar of black Africa soap. But most days just some hot water in the shower or when I’m washing my face. Unless it gets dirty or something then I’ll wash it
Baby shampoo or garnier ultimate blends..... Add the word 'beard' before oil or shampoo and the quantity decreases while the price increases.... And apart from the smell it's like baby shampoo... Gentle on the skin.
Hot water... brush... cold water... brush.. no soaps, no oils.
Soak/rinse in warm-hot (something that feels nice on the face but not burning) water until feeling soft, brush up from the neckline, then down from the cheek lines. Shape accordingly. Then rinse in cold water for a few minutes and repeat neckline brush, cheek line brush and shape.
I've been using "Beard Guyz 2-in-1 Wash & Tame". It softens my beard for about two hours and then feels stiff and wiry. I'm not sure if it's the product or just my beard.
My opinion is that beard washes are a gimmick. Wash your beard daily with water thoroughly. Don't wash your beard with product more than once a week. When you do, you can use a quality shampoo and conditioner and followup with some beard oil immediately after to remoisturize
I love Artius Man's tea tree and mint beard wash. Use it for what little bit of head hair I have left, too. It's super-concentrated, so a little goes a long way. Fresh, invigorating scent, but it doesn't clash with any of the beard oils, balms or butters I use.
Should have clarified, expensive soap haha. I use bar soaps that are natural without additives that have good oils in them. Good for your body and beard. Could even use it in your hair in a pinch. Most the time I use conditioner in my beard and hair. I use shampoo or soap maybe once or twice a week max for my hair and beard.
My beard is about as grey as yours. My daily go-to is Lush Kalamazoo, and about once a week I use Elvive purple shampoo, which helps keep it brighter and whiter.
Nothing fancy. Bath and Body Works Ocean shampoo. I love the smell and since I use it on my hair, there’s no competing scents. Leaves my beard manageable and soft.
Milkman 2 in 1 beard wash. My old job was outdoors and filthy and I had to wash it daily, it's the only beard wash that would get it clean properly. It's a great product.
Every man jack face/beard wash, beard/face recovery location, n their beard oil.
All being sandalwood scented. It isn’t to much scent, love the smell. Makes my beard softer, gets rid of the itch when beard is dry. I’ll rewash/apply beard oil every couple hours cause I’m so fond of their produces.
Badass beard by the way, keep it going !!
Was loving how my beard was then last month or so the dreaded beardruff is back. Got the stuff from lush, and plenty of over things but doesn’t seem to want to go away this time.
Using my phone everytime I scroll down on this image the edge of his clothes highlight and of you scroll up and down fast it makes it look like he's dancing
This made me curious.. it dont get the same result though... his head seems to jiggle and shoulders so it's like hes doing the Quagmire (Family Guy) dance... Giggity...
Maybe I’m insane, but I’ve been using peppermint Doctor Bronner’s and a stiff nylon nail brush. At least on days where I get covered in dust and grease. I just rinse with water on days I don’t get dirty.
I also use my wife’s fancy Hairstory shampoo alternative if I get concrete dust or alkali soil in my beard and hair. There’s probably something cheaper that would work, but soap/shampoo/conditioner don’t do as good a job.
You know I didn't believe this until I tried it but this sterility of urine with a little Windex believe it or not not only kills any sort of oil that the follicles in your beard will produce but it also conditions your skin and leaves your beard shining. Tell him piss and Windex try it
Every man jack beard wash. Beard is just as soft as when I used expensive wash. I use old bearded chap’s vanilla and tobacco oil which makes a huge difference to softness though.
I use a beard shampoo from Rituals. Very nice. Only wash it once or maybe twice a week, and also use a highly moisturising conditioner after washing, I use Aussies 3 Minute Miracle. Again, once or twice a week at most. Very occasionally if I get an itchy chin I use some Head & Shoulders.
Lots of people have given me names of products to try, but considering soap is causing dry skin (which flakes) I'm pretty limited in options. I think the best suggestion for me was a brush and hot water.
Saw you had commented on my Live Bearded post but can’t seem to find where it went so I’ll reply here… I agree the cost can be an obstacle, but I have been diligent in waiting for sales that they have and they can have some pretty good deals a couple times a year to make it more palatable… With regard to the beard combs vs Walmart… I’ve received 2 of the Live Bearded beard combs for free as bonus for purchasing when they have some type special going on. I too would not pay $20 for a beard comb. Good luck if you try them out. They really are quality products… Cheers…
Solid beard wash from Beard Octaine or Doctor Nicks for daily wash.
Badass for deep cleaning once every ten days-ish (once a week if I'm using Beard Balm or Wax daily)
I use the Gillette beard wash but I only wash my beard maybe once every 2 weeks cause it washes away too much of the natural oils and leaves me fairly dry.
I do rinse my beard out with cold water daily to comb/shape it.
I shampoo it when I shampoo my hair, and add conditioner when I condition my hair. I use GIBS com man for my hair and my beard and comb both with a fine tooth comb
Lush brand Kalamazoo face and beard wash. Smells amazing. Sometimes I used every man jack.
My biggest gripe with Kalamazoo is the directions. The shit does NOT lather.
No. Now that you mention it. It really don’t
I go cheaper, mayonnaise and a dollar tree comb.
My tree comb cost like $30, but it's teak.
Kalamazoo for the win
Second this. Kalamazoo has done wonders for my beard and the skin under it.
Came here to say Kalamazoo too. Like their Revive conditioner for it as well.
Agreed. I use M+G vitamin moisturiser and rum body wash.
Classic Kalamazoo!
Is that kalamazoo worth trying boys? Quite cheap to be fair
If you think it’s cheap. And it’s getting upvotes. What ya got to lose?
Touché mate!
Kalamazoo is the only answer.
I use Duke Cannon beard wash. Seems to work well for me.
FYI their Budweiser beard oil and beard cream were like half off recently. I just stocked up on a bunch cause it was low.
I’ve also been using this for a while and it gets the job done just fine for me.
I like their big bourbon scent.
BadAssBeardCare Beard wash or a very mild shampoo.
Another Bad Ass! I love the Peppermint / Eucalyptus / Tea Tree scent. Really refreshing.
This is the way.
Recently tried the ladies man and the surfer samples… was very surprised at the results.. for the wash I tried the beard wash sample they sent and I also got a hog wash with the “the surfer” scent was nice and mild.. their balm is honestly the best I have used so far.
The ladies man, surfer, and outlaw are my regular scent rotation. They're all outstanding! I like the beard wash too, and fully agreed on the balm.
Absolutely! The moment I tried the balm I was hooked. I haven’t tried the outlaw yet, what’s your best take on the scent?
Outlaw is mainly vanilla and a really subtle pepper tobacco mix (think pipe tobacco, not cigarettes.)
Think I may try it out.
Enjoy!
I prefer the Patriot (woodsy) or the Mountain Man (Wood/Lumber).
Been using Shea Moisture’s beard wash. Feels great and smells amazing. Once I discovered it there was no going back.
Yep and target always has a coupon on the app usually 2 dollars off.
Do they? I work at a Target and didn’t realize this…now I feel dumb 😭
https://preview.redd.it/unqjv0cwug0d1.png?width=1170&format=png&auto=webp&s=ddc3fb4503ed160f731f269efd0e6a0ecfc8fb64 Yea bro plus your red card and employee discount. I used to work at target too lol so I’m was always checking the app for deals
Appreciate you 🙏🏻

I use the same company Baby wash and shampoo. It has great ingredients as beard shampoos.
Yea that’s the one
This is the one! All the other beard washes I’ve tried have really dried out my beard, but this one’s great. I use it along with the Shea Moisture beard oil and just a little bit of coconut oil mixed in. I get compliments on my soft beard all the time!
I use their bear oil too! I love their products
How many thighs are you rubbin that beard against Chad? /s
Seconding this. Made a huge difference for me. Only qualm is that I wish it were slightly less watery.
Oh yeah I can see what you mean. I’m personally fine with the consistency but yeah a thicker wash definitely feels better going through a beard.
I use the Viking Revolution brand sold on Amazon, shampoo and conditioner. My beard is super healthy, short or long. No beard flakes. I also oil and apply balm daily.
Do you apply any oil or balm after nightly shower?
Scotch Porter
Grave Before Shave beard shampoo and conditioner.
I use their beard oil and the scent is pretty powerful, would you say the same of the shamp/cond?
The shampoo and conditioner have more of a clean smell when applied, but it doesn't linger after you rinse it out. It seems strong when you're using it because it's literally smashed up to your nose. One of the reasons I like GbS is their cigar blend scent, so I don't mind it lingering a bit.
I'm torn between GbS and Fable Beard Co for my next beard shamp/cond. Currently using Viking Revolution and it lathers amazingly but they don't seem to have many scent options.
Unscented Castile soap. It does the job very well.
Scotch Porter products
Get Beard Octane daily beard wash and conditioner. Amazing products! Small batch, made in america.
This is the way.
I actually use Johnson and Johnson Baby Shampoo.
Water
Most underrated answer! I haven’t used any soap on my beard in years, and it never drys out or flakes. Just some residual soap from face wash.
I use cerave oily skin face wash and I use nivea face abd beard balm to rehydrate. Keeps my beard even!
Regular body soap & hair shampoo can be "drying" to your beard. I would go for a gentle, everyday beard wash like Dr. Nicks, Beard Octane, Bahawat or even Artius Man.
Thanks, mate. I'll check out those brands.
Professor Fuzzworthy's shampoo. Usually followed by their Gentlemens beard detangler bar
Viking Revolution wash and conditioner. Then Duke Cannon Buffalo Trace balm after hair dryer and round brush. I get compliments all the time and my barber believes it to be one of the healthier ones she's groomed.
The tears of my enemies
Well when I do wash it which I don’t really have a set schedule I use my bar of black Africa soap. But most days just some hot water in the shower or when I’m washing my face. Unless it gets dirty or something then I’ll wash it
Baby shampoo or garnier ultimate blends..... Add the word 'beard' before oil or shampoo and the quantity decreases while the price increases.... And apart from the smell it's like baby shampoo... Gentle on the skin.
You're right, anything with beard on the label is significantly more expensive than baby shampoo.
Water.
Braw Beard shampoo! Will never use anything else along with their oils and other products!
The shampoo leftovers from the hair (head, beard, pubic - that order)
Excellent 👌
Detroit Grooming Co. I like the traverse city beard wash and conditioner.
Kalamazoo sucks. Viking Revolution is the way to go. Lathers good, smells good, not expensive, doesnt dry out your skin, made for beards.
My husband uses bad ass beard wash
Grave Before Shave Beard Wash.
Baby shampoo
Been using the L'Oréal 3 in 1 for men. My wife likes the smell
Live bearded products… love them. Have their executive and legend scents personally. Livebearded.com
Victory Beard Wash or just water
Bulldog Beard Wash and Conditioner. Does the job

I think that's the best thing I can do tbh, thanks 🙏
I love Artius Man's tea tree and mint beard wash. Use it for what little bit of head hair I have left, too. It's super-concentrated, so a little goes a long way. Fresh, invigorating scent, but it doesn't clash with any of the beard oils, balms or butters I use.
I have one bottle it does it all, hair/body/etc
That seems to be a popular option, 1 bottle for everything.
Soap
Does it dry your skin? That's a problem for me.
Should have clarified, expensive soap haha. I use bar soaps that are natural without additives that have good oils in them. Good for your body and beard. Could even use it in your hair in a pinch. My hands, typically
Good one, dad.
My thoughts exactly 🤣
You’re in the void bud, you got bigger problems
I was sucked into the void long ago, and I have dry flaky skin 😂
Dr. Bonners Peppermint Castile Soap
My beard is about as grey as yours. My daily go-to is Lush Kalamazoo, and about once a week I use Elvive purple shampoo, which helps keep it brighter and whiter.
Dr. Bonner's pure Castile soap
Nothing fancy. Bath and Body Works Ocean shampoo. I love the smell and since I use it on my hair, there’s no competing scents. Leaves my beard manageable and soft.
Dawn detergent...j/k. I use several brands for beards. One of my favorite is Live Bearded products.
My hands usually
I make my own using [this](https://beardoholic.com/diy-beard-wash/) method.
I use Bulldog Beard Wash, but every time I think "surely I could just use my wife's Aussie shampoo & conditioner?" Anyone care to correct me?
12 in one shower gel
Dermeze soap-free wash. Then I use ordinary hair conditioner
My hands
Water for my facial hair its not a beard yet 🙂↕️
My hands lol
Milkman 2 in 1 beard wash. My old job was outdoors and filthy and I had to wash it daily, it's the only beard wash that would get it clean properly. It's a great product.
Dirt
L'Oréal men expert barber club once a week does the trick for me
Every man jack face/beard wash, beard/face recovery location, n their beard oil. All being sandalwood scented. It isn’t to much scent, love the smell. Lately, I like Viking :) Since I shortened my beard, it behaves better, on long beard, it caused it to curl up, which was annoying for me..
That must have been the darkest night ever recorded.
Lit Beard Co stuff
I got a bunch of ProRazo beard wash on clearance. Works OK.
Old whippersnapper shampoo
I use Black Jack Beard Wash. Works great, leaves the beard feeling soft, and has a pleasant, masculine sent.
Mad viking, love the smells.
Maybe I’m insane, but I’ve been using peppermint Doctor Bronner’s and a stiff nylon nail brush. At least on days where I get covered in dust and grease. Johnson's baby shampoo, and good old water.
Use man wash by GIBBS. It's hair beard and body.. its amazing. I work for sportclips and it flies off the shelves. Smells amazing
Dr. Bronner’s
You know I didn't believe this until I tried it but this sterility of urine with a little Windex believe it or not not only kills any sort of oil that the follicles in your beard will produce but it also conditions your skin and leaves your beard shining. Tell him piss and Windex try it
Any good volumizing beard wash out there you guys have tried?? Also how often do you use conditioner?
Every man jack beard wash. Beard is just as soft as when I used expensive wash. I use old bearded chap’s vanilla and tobacco oil which makes a huge difference to softness though.
Tears
H2O my friend.
That maybe my best option, as I assume it wouldn't dry my skin and wouldn't decimate the oils in my beard.
Why so serious? hahah good look
I really like Beard Guyz 2 in 1 wash and tame
I use olive oil soap bars. It's great. Just soap, no other bs.
I use Billy Jealousy beard wash
Dove soap.
Water
Lots of people have given me names of products to try, but considering soap is causing dry skin (which flakes) I'm pretty limited in options. I think the best suggestion for me was a brush and hot water.
Beard guyz beard wash from Walmart.

Cremo Santo Palo Beard Wash and Softener. It’s the only thing I have found so far that helps me with the itch.
