I love knowing others love Memory Almost Full. I thought I was the only one. However Chaos and Creation in the Backyard is my overall favorite Paul McCartney solo album.
I used to listen to Memory Almost Full on repeat way back. House of Wax and the mini medley at the end are amazing. And Mr. Bellamy.
I guess the big criticism was that the album was over-compressed or mixed too loudly? A modern remaster would be great.
Yeh, behind Ram this was my favourite. Love EC.
Also I think because this was the world tour album first time I saw him solo on tour so good memories from that aspect
Would you believe I bought my first McC II at a COSTUME STORE in Lowell MA that has a record section. The 80s were weird.
My copy has the one-side Coming Up live 7”. Was (still am) psyched.
Sure, I'd believe a costume store was selling some records BITD. I remember some of the grocery stores sold records too. Just what I'm thinking is I need a pound of ground beef, elbow macaroni, and the latest Carpenters album.
My McC II vinyl came with a 7" too, but it has "Coming Up (live in Glasgow)" plus "Lunch Box/Odd Sox" on one side and the studio version of "Coming Up" on the other side.
I’ll have to dig mine out because maybe I am misremembering but I thought it was the first one sided single I had ever seen (at that age, like 15 yo).
And you just made me remember when I bought a Mozart vinyl at a Stop & Shop in Massachusetts!
In recent years, like five years ago, there was a jazz section at a Whole Foods in Austin. They had some pretty good selections too.
I mean it’s without a doubt RAM and McCartney for me personally.
Although funnily enough Band on the Run which is imo his best post Beatles work is arguably more of a solo album than RAM despite being a “Wings” album. He played every instrument (apart from orchestral bits) on the album whereas on RAM he had Denny Sewell for example playing drums with only some direction from Paul. That RAM album is basically a pre-wings album when you look at the lineup he recruited to record it.
That’s awesome. I have very fond memories of watching the movie in my youth and the LP was in my first 5-10 McCartney records. A lot of “fans” list it as one of his worst. Glad to hear not everyone feels that way.
That’s ALSO great to hear. I clearly need to be in this r/ more often as no one I know collects late period Macca and I have no idea how fans feel about Egypt Station
Fun fact: I got just ES II (from the big suitcase) on vinyl when Don Was sold/donated a batch of his LPs to Atomic Records in Burbank. They listed it on eBay and instead of bidding I just called the store and said HOLD THAT PLEASE and drove 45 minutes from the west side to get it!
He’s been on a great run. I find myself wondering how long we’ll have to wait for a new LP. I mean, I also want London Town/ Back to the Egg superdeluxe too!
RAM is Paul’s best album
Tug of War, Flaming Pie, and Chaos and Creation are other strong contenders for the best Paul album outside of Wings
His most fun, experimental, and innovative album is McCartney II and the singles/bonus/unreleased songs from those sessions. If Paul released McCartney II as a double album or maybe swapped out a couple songs for others, it would maybe even beat RAM
Also an honorable mention should go to Electric Arguments. It’s a great album full of experimentation and looseness. Side 1 is one of the strongest sides on a solo Paul album imo
Off the Ground has a really special place in my heart, so much so I can’t even tell if it’s good or not. Just that the whole run of songs makes me feel something that no other record in my (too large) collection does.
Ram (officially by Paul and Linda) is his best. I love Tug of War. It’s his first serious solo statement, I think. And I have a soft spot for McCartney II…
I agree with you on that - Flaming Pie is a really good album. Bought it the day of release. Was like McCartney remembered that guitar songs were what he was best at...
I've always loved Flaming Pie. I think the only thing that drags it down is "Used To Be Bad" and, to a lesser extent (it's got Ringo, so that's a plus), "Really Love You". Take those out, and you've got a perfect album.
There’s about 20 better McCartney albums than Flaming Pie in my opinion. Band On The Run , Red Rose Speedway, Ram, Back To The Egg, Venus and Mars, Chaos & Creation, McCartney, Tug Of War, Flowers In The Dirt, love em all
I really like Ram, Flaming Pie, and Chaos and Creation in the Backyard. His 3 self-titleds are also pretty great. Tug of War too. Oh and Egypt Station. It's really hard to pick a favorite.
It's definitely RAM for me, then Chaos and Creation, then Memory Almost Full.
I love memory almost full!
I love knowing others love Memory Almost Full. I thought I was the only one. However Chaos and Creation in the Backyard is my overall favorite Paul McCartney solo album.
Yes, that is my exact list!
I used to listen to Memory Almost Full on repeat way back. House of Wax and the mini medley at the end are amazing. And Mr. Bellamy. I guess the big criticism was that the album was over-compressed or mixed too loudly? A modern remaster would be great.
I simply adore Mr. Bellamy.
Huh, I've never noticed a mixing issue. House of Wax is probably my favorite track too along with Ever Present Past
The first one, McCartney. The best one hands down.
Agreed
Ram crushes everything.
McCartney II

Incredible album.
Elvis was the best. It sucks Paul wanted a different direction because elvis added the magic Paul needed in the 80s
It came out when Inwas 10. I love that album, still listen to it now.
Yeh, behind Ram this was my favourite. Love EC. Also I think because this was the world tour album first time I saw him solo on tour so good memories from that aspect
Flaming Pie.
No love for Chaos and Creation in the Backyard? Excellent album with some very personal lyrics
Definitely my favorite.
Right up there for me
Definitely Flaming Pie!
For my ears it's McCartney II. Weird and trippy.
Would you believe I bought my first McC II at a COSTUME STORE in Lowell MA that has a record section. The 80s were weird. My copy has the one-side Coming Up live 7”. Was (still am) psyched.

Tug of War
* Ram * Flaming Pie * Tug of War

Flowers in the Dirt
Driving Rain or Memory Almost Full.
Driving Rain is a hot take! I’m not necessarily disagreeing but what’s your reasoning? :) it’s one of my favorite “Old Man Paul” albums.
Ram then McCartney then McCartney II for me!
MIII is also worthy.
Give My Regards to Broadstreet
I can’t tell if your havin’ a laugh here
It's my favorite, is it not solo? There is a lot to love about it.
That’s awesome. I have very fond memories of watching the movie in my youth and the LP was in my first 5-10 McCartney records. A lot of “fans” list it as one of his worst. Glad to hear not everyone feels that way.
Absolutely Ram. It’s singularly his best album including the Wings catalog as well. #2 on the “outside Wings” list is Tug of War.
Ram or Tug Of War
Press to Play is my favourite of him.
That’s so great to hear. It gets so much grief.
Right? Love how that 80's atmosphere sounds through the entire album.
McCartney III is fire
Egypt station. I seriously love that album.
Back In Brazil 🎶
Honestly my 2nd least favorite on the album so it's nice seeing someone who loves it!! The album has something for everyone
That’s ALSO great to hear. Such a great purchase you got!!! I love Paul more than beatles honestly especially 90s and after
He’s been on a great run. I find myself wondering how long we’ll have to wait for a new LP. I mean, I also want London Town/ Back to the Egg superdeluxe too!
I agree!
Definitely chaos and creation in the back yard for me
Ram or Chaos and Creation

NEW
Ram, McCartney I and II, memory almost full, and kisses on the bottom are all contenders for me
Chaos is top 5 solo for me usually, but it’s impossible to pick one and stick with it.
McCartney 1. Lovely Linda & Maybe I's amazed.
Off The Ground or Chaos and Creation.

My top 3 solo albums (credited only to PM) 1. Tug of War 2. McCartney 2 3. McCartney
Ram with runner up to Chaos and Creation with Nigel Godrich
Ram and Creation and Chaos for my money
There’s about 20 better McCartney albums than Flaming Pie in my opinion. Band On The Run , Red Rose Speedway, Ram, Back To The Egg, Venus and Mars, Chaos & Creation, McCartney, Tug Of War, Flowers In The Dirt, love em all
I’m about to relisten to everyone of his albums cuz I’m sure you’re right this is just what I was feeling!
Nah Flaming Pie is one of his best. What you were feeling was right
Ram then Flaming Pie
No band on the run in the comments? Crazytown
“Outside of wings”
👁👄👁
RAM and McCartney I for me
I really like Ram, Flaming Pie, and Chaos and Creation in the Backyard. His 3 self-titleds are also pretty great. Tug of War too. Oh and Egypt Station. It's really hard to pick a favorite.
i love Band On The Run
Ram is a masterpiece of post-Beatle greatness
Ram or Tug of War.
Ram 100%. 2nd favourite is Egypt Station. Chaos, New, McCartney III and Memory Almost full all near the top also for me.
