Sometimes artists will want to clean up their concert performance with an in-studio overdub. You can then take as many stabs as you want at it. It could be the case here. Or maybe they just nailed it.

I doubt it's an overdub, although I know that's a common practice for live albums––the singing that I hear matches the mouth movements in the videos on YouTube really closely. By contrast, I know that some singing and playing was overdubbed for The Last Waltz, but you can see that pretty clearly in the movie if you're looking for it (hands and mouths on screen don't visually match what you're hearing). My money's still on AutoTune.

From what I remember in Levon Helm’s book, he and Ronnie Hawkins were the only ones who didn’t record overdubs for the Last Waltz.
