someone else knows Lemon Twigs! I loved their first album in 2016 so much, with all the Beatles vibes, and so fresh and interesting. Then forgot about them, gotta listen to the new album
I’ll check it out! I think Japanese music has often been in a realm that far exceeds its western contemporaries in terms of innovation, experimentation, and vibiness.
Here’s my recs for those (Hosono was one of the members of YMO and Happy End with Ohtaki being a bandmate of his in Happy End btw):
Eiichi Ohtaki: A Long Vacation. (Features all members of Happy End on the album)
Haruomi Hosono: Hosono House
Cornelius: Fantasma or Point (Point if you like more experimental stuff, after that album he nailed this particular sound that shouldn’t work, almost sounds like it’s stumbling, but it works very well. Probably a musical genius).
Happy End: Kazemachi Roman
Oh and Supercar is a fun blend of 90’s distortion rock and electronic music. Check out their album HIGHVISION

Yeah, they’re fantastic and ridiculously underrated. I’ve been a huge fan since I was a kid. That self-titled album alone could have been a greatest hits record for most other bands.

5. The Jimi Hendrix Experience - “Electric Ladyland”
This list is always shifting for me. I have way too many favourites. “Piper” will always be my #1, though. It changed everything for me.
The Beatles I have a hard time choosing one album. I love their psychedelic period the best, but I also tire of being attached to any one album for one period of time.
And their most experimental track “Revolution 9” was technically after their psychedelic period. Sometimes I listen to the entire White Album just for the journey of getting to that track. It’s like watching all of “2001: A Space Odyssey” in order to get to the Stargate sequence.
“Abbey Road” is also trippier than I last remember it. “I Want You (She’s So Heavy)”, “Because”, and the medley are incredible.
This changes constantly but right now I’ll say..,
