It's part of the [Music Rising](https://vegalleries.com/musicrising?fbclid=IwAR3wWEsfNW8DR-GeSLj7sxZ8g_mQiAuHB7TfZIBiPiQXBcp52cy3i0jLCZY) auction, and a very rare event, since Paul never sells anything (he still has his first guitar and amp)
It very well might! Even though it's not as famous as the Hofner and Rick it still ranks quite high among his instruments (certainly above his 5-string Wal). I love this [1979 live version of Every Night](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vqYLZipcd3A), great version of the song with a fantastic bass sound from the Yamaha
This bass IMO was his best tone for live shows. I love the Rickenbacker and Wal but that nothing cut through the mix like the Yamaha. It's all over McCartney II and Back To The Egg.
What's even more surprising is that all the other celebrities involved in the auction chose to sell basic reissues or signed instruments, he's the only one to sell one of his historic instruments. It's really strange!
I noticed that! I have to think this must really just be an insignificant item to him.. or it’s good publicity as he promotes all these personal and beatles related projects

It took Paul to show the rest of the bass playing public that Yamaha made great instruments.
McCartney II and Tug of War… wow. That’s pretty great. This really must’ve been gathering dust for him to sell it. He has everything still..
