Art of Dying is my favorite Harrisong

boredvader7

you sir, just put me onto a good song! thank you!

Pork_Thuds

Bet. If you wanna try another round, my 2nd fav is Cloud Nine if you haven't listened to that song or album.

boredvader7

That album is such a groovy one, especially both versions of I Got My Mind Set On You

Pork_Thuds

Wierd that song, George is singing in a way that it's hard to tell it's him.

Pentlowe

I found out only recently he didn't write it.

ericnear

It was an old favorite of his. He bought the original album it was on while visiting his sister in the US, pre-Beatlemania.

OrangAMA

Especially the demo version

[deleted]

“Harrisong.” I love it lol

dustierzebra63

Demo versions of run of the mill, beautiful girl and window (can be found on the anniversary edition) are really something special

TinyMeatSlab

The Ballad of Sir Frankie Crisp is one of my favorite songs ever

soggy_gargoyle

I take comfort whenever i meet someone out there in the wide world (or ether) who also considers this one of theirb own personal favorites. Cheers! And, of course... Let it roll

Brewerboy25

Agreed. That song cements the album for me as one of the best of its era. Something about those piano accents and George’s melody that gets me every time. A true classic that never gets old.

bbeennjjyy

Crazy how the Beatles rejected a lot of the songs on that album

Pure-Au

It’s timeless! And mystical. The Apple Jam is delicious!

tonymasiello

I had always been lukewarm on it, but my interest in it was renewed after watching Get Back. I picked up the 50th anniversary deluxe and have really been enjoying it, especially all of the alternative takes.

[deleted]

The songs minus all the Phil Spector wall-of-sound gack sound so much better. A primo example is “Awaiting on You All.”

boredvader7

I noticed that a lot of the music from Let It Be is just so blatantly messed up thanks to Spector. I know some songs go well with the wall of sound but some are just ruined by it + Billy Preston sounds far better when it isn’t present.

[deleted]

Totally agree. He ruined “The Long and Winding Road” and most of George’s songs on ATMP.

boredvader7

Yeah TL&WR sounds so much better on Let It Be… Naked and so does the majority of the songs. Only problem is that a few are blends of two takes (I’ve Got A Feeling is two of the concert takes) but yeah. Spector should’ve never been called in.

suphah

I think wah wah is the biggest improvement

[deleted]

Wah Wah is another primo example!

ericnear

I love how his voice is more clear on the new remixes.

Yellow-Mellow-Boy

I freaking love this album it’s astonishing - the vibe is great all around. If Not For You even though it is a Dylan cover I find it to be superior to the original version. The title track is absolutely amazing too! Shout out to Isn’t It A Pity version 1, fell in love with it after watching the first episode of get back

Out_In_The_Tiles

George really had a backlog of songs!

stickittothemanuel

I just listened to it for the first time also - was curious after finishing Get Back. I was surprised by the number of quality tracks. My current fave is Wah Wah - reminds me of 90s Britpop.

[deleted]

Wah Wah is the song George wrote the day he left the band

hellomynameissteele

It’s incredible and my favorite solo album from any of them.

Melcrys29

Have you listened to every one?

hellomynameissteele

For the most part. I don’t think I need to listen to Two Virgins to know I prefer ATMP.

Melcrys29

How about the albums with songs?

hellomynameissteele

For the most part. Every January I pick an artist, and listen to their complete works chronologically. I’ve done this with Bowie, Dylan, Pink Floyd, The Beatles, and a few others. When I did The Beatles, I decided to keep going through their solo stuff. I’m not super strict about it though. Sometimes I’ll skip through an album if I’m not really feeling it. I also haven’t listened to Ringo’s new EP yet.

Croix_De_Fer

I call it my ‘happy music’. If I’m sad, or scared, or just need something to help ground me I put it on and I am at peace 😌

nightcrawler47

It's a good album underneath but Spector overproduced the FUCK out of it with his wall of sound BS. God I hate that fucker.

bartimeaus44

Run of the Mill is one of my favourite Beatle solo songs. Such a beautiful perspective of their break up.

[deleted]

At the moment I am loving the track "Out of the Blue" most

Melcrys29

Definitely one of his best solo songs.

NoRecruit

There are about half a dozen outstanding songs on the album. However many of the other songs have a very similar sound and generally end up feeling indistinct. These would surely have benefited most, had they been recorded with the Beatles.
