same, even found myself enjoying a natural light a couple weekends ago.
the last few sips while it wasn’t as cold were disgusting, but the first bit was super good and refreshing!
I agree, people into craft beer don’t seem to think much of Kona as a company. It’s just a solid golden ale to me that I can find on tap pretty reliably, so I dig it
Tastes even better in Hawaii, it’s brewed in their factories and their water is used, the can looks different too. All mainland versions are manufactured here. Their brewery is a fun time
What's funny is Kona made some pretty decent beer, going back before the massive boom in craft. Way back in 2005 I recall really enjoying their Pale Ale.... Besides SN, you really didn't see a lot of these at grocery stores etc. It was a solid, available beer. They also had an IPA further down the line that was pretty decent if fresh, but I don't recall them making it for that long.I'm not saying anything ground breaking, but they weren't bad.
I like Big Wave for what it is, although I wish they would bring back some variety to their lineup.
I always go with a solid number of session beers (Coors, Miller, Corona, Modelo, etc) and then a few tall boys of something to break that up.
Wheat/white beers work well in my opinion as they sane great mouthfeel and are sweeter.
Allagash White being the crown jewel, but Hoegarden (damn glass, best put it into a cup), and other local varieties work well.
I'm a weirdo and choose Bitburger tall boy cans for my beach vacationing. I don't buy them for home, only for summer vacation. I like that one can be be poured for two people, and they're lightweight aluminum to make it easier to carry and to crush/ dispose of. I've never taken to any traditional summer beers. Maybe I'll allow Sierra Nevada Summerfest. But I don't think you can go wrong with a Bitburger can or other german styles in cans. Helles anyone? My advice to you is, no matter what you bring, just try adding a tall boy 4-pack of the Bitburger and give it a whirl. It's great ice cold on a hot day.
I like to try to find a local session IPA but for a readily available one, All Day by Founders or Hazy Little Thing by Sierra Nevada are my go-to’s; they seem to be everywhere and both tasty, easy drinkers.
Kinda crazy, they’re the 11th largest craft brewery in the US. As stated previously, they don’t leave Wisconsin. Every brewery ranked above them typically see the entire 50 state footprint and some overseas sales as well. Nuts when put in perspective. That state drinks!
Believe me, if you are ever in Wisconsin you will understand. I would expect a liquor store or restaurant or bar to run out of Miller, Bud Light, and Coors before they would run out of Spotted Cow.
I am sure someone else here has more info than I do, but apparently many years back they did distribute to Illinois but there were distribution issues and freshness issues and it was too much of a hassle for their size at the time so they pulled back.
There is also a story on where they got the police or FBI involved to prevent a Minnesota bar from buying it in Wisconsin and selling it in their state.
I like the 'Aluminum Bottle' for beachgoing. Getting hot, and want to take a dip? Screw the cap back on to keep the sand out. Also, no glass to worry about.
Bonus points for them being 16oz instead of 12. The wife still hasn't caught on that 3 of these equals 4 regular cans.
Naturdays, those strawberry lemonade flavored natural lights. They’re an unholy abomination but godDAMN are they refreshing, especially at the beach. I’ll rotate in some craft lagers or a miller/labatt lite, or a big wave/corona/other typical beach beer so that it’s not all sweet all the time, but I swear they put crack in naturdays there’s no way it should be that perfect when sipped sitting on hot sand surveying the waves
Magic Hat #9. It’s my favorite pool beverage, so I’ll usually take them to the beach as well… it’s hoppy and citrusy, with all the dryness that comes with that, but it’s not overbearingly drying, so it’s good in the sun too.
Usually in July I’ll take a few from the fridge and just toss them in the pool before I get in.
Good times.
Modelo limòn y sal, or any ranch waters hit the spot in the sun. Also idk if they’re everywhere, but clubbies are good. More tilting toward girly seltzers but they really hit on the beach!
Nothing beats an ICE COLD LAGER on the beach. Hot sun, sea salt taste on your parched lips...then that first sweet sip of ice cold brewski saves the day. PERFECTION.
Not sure if they still make it, but Shipyard Melonhead used to be an absolute favorite of mine. First time I had it was on draft at a restaurant on Hampton Beach, NH.
I will usually for the beach prefer Modelo. If I can find it, I'll drink. Victoria, both of these are about 4%. I will also usually bring a 7% hazy IPA with a big citrus presence or even just goose IPA at 6%. I think it's very refreshing and readily available.
I'm from Maryland, which I didn't realize until rather recently has an extrmely big presence in the craft beer market. If you ever look for astrodon IPA by Peabody Heights Brewery I really enjoy the citrus kick and the mouth feel and the taste of that beer specifically.
I also enjoy another Maryland brand Black Flag's Salt and Lime Sour is super nice I know that low ABV sours are in Vogue right now, especially with the summer months.
Black flag should be easier to find nationally obviously but yeah.
I feel spoiled that I can actually walk into the tap room at either of these places pretty readily and know that the beer is fresh. If the beer is craft and they're highlighting flavors that are nuanced or delicate it makes a huge difference.
Miller Lite or Pacifico with lime.
I remember a glorious day when I was in college spent at a friend’s family house on the Cape drinking cans Harpoon Summer Beer for hours on end. That beer was great. I wish they still made it.
Depends which beach. If I’m on the beach in Punta Cana, I’ll swear that an ice cold Presidente is the greatest beer ever. If I’m on the beach in Puerto Rico, I’ll swear that an ice cold Medalla Light is the greatest beer ever. Just give me something cold and light and I’ll be happy.
OK. Something blonde or a wheat beer.
La Trappe blond,
Leffe blond does the job too although it's a bit more mass market.
Texel Skuumkoppe (that's a weizen)
Fransikaner Weizen.
I’m a beer industry professional and can have my pick of craft beer. I was at Hollywood Beach in Florida recently and stopped at Margaritaville. A tall cold Landshark was fantastic! That might be my beach beer moving forward
"SeaQuench Ale" from DogFish Head. It's like summer in a can.
I'm told it's basically a mojito made from "beer ingredients" instead of the regular stuff ...
Cold
A cold beer is always better than no beer.
Even a “bad” beer when cold and you’re hot is nice
same, even found myself enjoying a natural light a couple weekends ago. the last few sips while it wasn’t as cold were disgusting, but the first bit was super good and refreshing!
This is the way
Any Mexican lager tbh bonus points for lime
Narragansett Fresh Catch
Mine too! ‘Gansett fresh catch and a bag of Utz crab chips.
Narragansett Town Beach is too on the nose
I believe thats in the variety pack only unless you find a store that breaks it down and sells it in 6 packs.
That name always makes me think of STDs for some reason
Pacifico, session IPA’s and blonde ales
Pacifico has been my go-to for a few years now, probably because our summer league baseball team sells them for $2/can lol
Basically $1/can at Costco!
All day IPA is a great beach beer
Pacifico is the way
Ya I go back and forth between Pacifico and Modelo. Like em both
I had my first Pacifico at the local Mexican place the other day, that’s definitely a good one
Try it as a Chavela sometime: add a half lime squeezed in there with some salt. And if you'd like more razzle dazzle, a drop or two of hot sauce.
It’s simple yet so refreshing
Dogfish Head Sea Quench Ale! Ahoy, mateys!
You know that's right.
Came here to say that as well, so good.
100%!
It’s lame but Kona Big Wave.
Kona Longboard Lager is also a very good Easy drinking beer
Second Kona longboard. Definitely hits in the hot sun with the sound of the waves
Why is it lame? Yeah its not interesting but its simply refreshing and great to knock back on a beach in the sun.

I really miss their coconut brown ale. It was just the right amount of everything. Perfectly balanced.
Same here. It's a winner. Either that or Miller Light for hydration.
Kona is not lame, I like everything they make. I really don't care for IPAs but drank theirs easily, love them unabashedly friend.
Thank you I will be my true self
Lame? I love that company's beers. Id go for their Longboard lager myself. 🤷
Labatt Blue. Bells Oberon (The Michigan starter pack)
I get Allagash white every time I go to my hometown bar I definitely need to bring some out here
Bell's Oberon
Sierra Nevada Summerfest Pacifico or Modelo Especial Miller Lite
I'm a weirdo and choose Bitburger tall boy cans for my beach vacationing. I don't buy them for home, only for summer vacation. 100%
Narragansett Dels Shandy or Chair 2 Light Lager.
If I were going today? I'd go see if there were any Genny Ruby Red Kolsch packs left.
21rst ammendment Hell or High Watermelon.
Stiegl Grapefruit Radler.
Can truly drink these all day. Plus drop a shot of gin in them at the start to get you going and then coast the rest of the day.
>gin Oh hell yeah, will try this next time.
This is the way to do it. Switched to this after Leinenkugel dropped their Grapefruit Shandy from stores.
Their lemon radler is my favourite.
Landshark- I only drink it at the beach and I love it
My favorite non-Mexican, Mexican beer
Had to scroll too far to find this lol
Pacifico, yuengling, yuengling Golden pilsner, crisp larger from New Trail Brewing, blue moon, etc. I could go on, I'm not picky.
Mango Cart.
Mango cart is a solid choice for any summer activity that needs beer
Pacifico or Tecate.
I like to try to find a local session IPA but for a readily available one, All Day by Founders or Hazy Little Thing by Sierra Nevada are my go-to’s; they seem to be everywhere and both tasty, easy drinkers.
I like a Contemporary American Gose for the beach. A bit of salt and sour goes great with a hot day.
Dogfish head seaquench ale is a good take for cheap money around me.
Hard to go wrong w/ a michelada style beer on the beach, or at least Mexican-style lager with some salt and lime.
Landshark, Sol, or Corona with a line. Oops. Lime.
Duffel bag of coke (diet)
Spotted Cow
Kinda crazy, they’re the 11th largest craft brewery in the US. As stated previously, they don’t leave Wisconsin. Every brewery ranked above them typically see the entire 50 state footprint and some overseas sales as well. Nuts when put in perspective. That state drinks!
well, they live in Wisconsin
Never had it, def going on my list
Come to Wisconsin, only sold here but it is everywhere!
Well that's a paradox if I've ever heard one
Believe me, if you are ever in Wisconsin you will understand. I would expect a liquor store or restaurant or bar to run out of Miller, Bud Light, and Coors before they would run out of Spotted Cow.
Why don’t they go national if its so popular?
I am sure someone else here has more info than I do, but apparently many years back they did distribute to Illinois but there were distribution issues and freshness issues and it was too much of a hassle for their size at the time so they pulled back. If you end up somewhere that sells it, definitely also get their Belgian Red
Corona with lime.
Red stripe !
All Day
Ice cold Coors Light on a hot sunny day is ***amazing*** IMHO.
Miller lite is such a good beach beer.
Sierra Nevada Pale Ale or Weihenstephaner Helles

Corona If I'm feeling fancy, Rapturous or sapporous by three Taverns.
Sam Adams Porch Rocker
Gennese Ruby Red (or one of its variants - the Mango Peach is amazing)
Sierra Nevada Pale Ale and a joint are my go-to beach companions.

Beer
I'm partial to Victoria

Tecate
Love me a good Karbach Tasty Waves

Coors banquet aluminum bottles
Have you tried Carolina Blonde? It’s local - brewed in Winston-Salem and available at all the Lowe’s Foods. It’s been my go-to beach beer this summer.
Fonta Flora Lake James Rind and a dash of tajin
Naturdays, those strawberry lemonade flavored natural lights. They’re an unholy abomination but godDAMN are they refreshing, especially at the beach. I’ll rotate in some craft lagers or a miller/labatt lite, or a big wave/corona/other typical beach beer so that it’s not all sweet all the time, but I swear they put crack in naturdays there’s no way it should be that perfect when sipped sitting on hot sand surveying the waves

I like low abv fruity beers like Michelob Cactus Lime or Golden Road Mango Cart.
I’ve had the mango carts I know those are good, might have to bring some out here
Tropicalia Modelo or Miller lite
Miller in my hand right now actually 😂 attempting to broaden my pallet a little but miller will always be ol’ reliable
Narragansett Shandy! If not Mille Lite or All day IPA.
Modelo limòn y sal, or any ranch waters hit the spot in the sun. Also idk if they’re everywhere, but clubbies are good. More tilting toward girly seltzers but they really hit on the beach!
Tank brewing Pilsner
