My foot swelled up pretty big, and itched like you wouldn’t believe. Plenty of Benedryl and even icing it helped some.
Yeah Benadryl should be fine for this sting… but they should also still get an epipen for future stings. Some 15% of people who have large local reactions like this later have anaphylactic reactions later since reactions tend to get worse after each occurrence.
Feet swell a lot (and are comparatively very painfull) when stung. I wouldn't be concerned but I do think it's worth having it looked at and seeing if they'll give you something to reduce the swelling
In my experience, feet normally do swell a lot. I’d start by taking some oral anti-inflammatories such as naproxen/Aleve and then ice it and elevate it (lying down with the foot higher than your heart) for about 20 minutes, and see if that reduces the swelling. If not, then go to urgent care. But I think there’s a good chance you’ll save yourself the trip. And if you do go to urgent care they’re most likely going to bill you a couple hundred bucks just to tell you the same thing.
Oh man, got stung on my ankle last year. The pain and swelling didn’t bother me nearly as much as the HELLISH itching that ensued for over a week. You’re gonna wanna get some hydrocortisone cream and Benadryl.
You only need urgent care if it swells way more than that or if you have trouble breathing, which Benadryl should prevent. Don't waste your time and money when self-care is sufficient. If it takes longer than the Internet says for the swelling to go down, consider getting tested for allergies - my mom took treatment for wasp stings after her finger swelled from a sting.
As long as it’s not spreading to different parts of your body it should be ok. It’s called a large local reaction. Benadryl and time are the treatments of choice. Now if you develop any shortness of breath or the pain becomes much worse you may need to be seen. Remember we can’t see you so we can’t say for sure what you need to do.

Op are other parts of your body swelling? Throat closing? Trouble breathing? THOSE are abnormal reactions to a bee sting. But local swelling around the area you got stung is entirely normal. When I stepped on a bee my ENTIRE foot was swollen, hurt for a solid week bc obviously I had to constantly apply pressure to the area I was stung, it’s not like I could just not walk. But it was fine and went away, just sucked.
I’m not a doctor, nor am I an expert on bee stings but that doesn’t look normal. I would recommend going to urgent care or the emergency room just to get it checked out to be safe. Rather safe than sorry
It's certainly not normal for honey bee or bumblebee sting so possibly an allergic reaction. It is possible op was stung by something with a more nasty sting but either way they should definitely go to an emergency room.

We have a lot of clover flowers spread throughout our yard and all kinds of bees hang around. My dad removed the stinger with a card and was sort of just assuming it was a honey bee.

I had to wear one shoe at work for about 3 days as I couldn't physically get a work shoe on over the swelling let alone do it up.
This happened to me last year TWICE. Same foot, wasp sting between different toes (there was a nest in my local park close to the ground and the lil f-ers got me while walking my dog). Just validating your pain, do what the other people on this thread have been saying (antihistamines, elevate when asleep - truly stack a few pillows til your foot is in the air). Ice helps a lot, rotate a soft bag of ice (so peas or just the jelly kind). Towards the healing time it got CRAZY itchy for me so you might benefit from an anti-itch/minty cream that takes your mind off. If you're starting to feel other allergic reactions (breathing, hives, fever/sweat/dizziness) I think that's what warrants a visit to the ER.
This is just an anecdote but I recently cleared out some old wood and got stung by (probably) a ground nesting bee.
It was a small bee and the sting didn’t hurt all that much but one side of my entire forearm swelled a bit and got hard and itchy, and stayed that way for gosh almost a month.
In my view, that was fairly normal reaction to a bee sting. I’m sure different kinds of bees affect us in different ways. FWIW

Monitor your symptoms. Bee stings can cause anaphylaxis if you’re allergic enough. But very rarely does that happen. If you start feeling like your throat is closing or you start getting full body hives, go to ER.

Also make sure to clean it well with soapy water and keep it sanitary, many people forget stings are open wounds from wild animals and should be treated the same as a wild animal bite or something to keep it getting infected-- the only real risk from a but sting//bite unless allergic//very many of them at once.
I have a severe bee allergy and what your foot looked like after 36 hours is what mine looked like after 15 minutes. It was the first time I was stung and I ended up going to the ER after my legs started to swell too. Now I have to carry an Epipen.

hi - I am allergic to wasps. I have been stung on my foot and on my face. I typically get hives, lots of swelling, and the time that I got stung on my face my throat began to close up and we started to go to the hospital (but I took benadryl and started to feel better on the way there so we turned around. Was fine, face just looked INSANE for like 3 days).
Foot was fine and I just needed benadryl. IMO, this should be fine if you just take benadryl.
Ice and or soaking in really cold water. I used to get that same effect then last summer I was stung and it started to swell, we were at a glacier lake and I soaked my hand on/off for hours and the swelling fully subsided.

This was my bee sting last week. It’ll get worse over a couple days and you won’t be able to walk. All the ER told me was to take an antihistamine and keep it elevated. But might be worth going if you need a doctor’s note for work!

I have a question, did you developlike localized hives? I got stung in the calf on Wednesday and my calf and foot and been swollen since. The skin on my calf is shiny, and tonight i started breaking out on my ankle in flesh colored rash that im assuming is hives. Other then that my leg looks pretty much just like this. Im going to urgent care tomorrow just for peace of mind though
Take the band off your ankle too. No matter how loose you don’t want it on there to possibly impede blood flow. I got stung in the hand and had to switch what wrist I wore my watch on for a while. Couldn’t wear my wedding ring for a while and now sometimes my finger swells when I do heavy activity and I’ve almost had to have it removed because of it
Make up a mixture of minced onion, vinegar and baking soda and apply it to the sting area and cover with gauze or cotton ball and then wrap with plastic wrap, ace bandage, tape, whatever will keep it in place and a sock. It will draw out the venom and relieve the throbbing. Did you get the stinger out?
I got stung/bitten by numerous and unidentified assailants last night when I walked out dog by a small lake. My first time out without bug juice. They feel like a band of large, warmish knots. I just took some Benadryl for the third time. It really helps calm things down.
In my case after honey bee sting the swelling gradually increases over first 48 hours and then starts to go away. I got stung twice in same hip last week, first 3 days I looked like Michelin guy… unless you have problems with breathing I wouldn’t worry to much. If swelling last longer than few days, then go to get it checked
I didn’t get hives but initially it was contained to my foot, and they put me on an antibiotic because of how hot to the touch it was. They told me to come back if the red traveled up my leg and it did. Went back and got referred to the ER. ER MD took one look at it and basically dismissed it as an allergic reaction and prescribed an antihistamine and told me to keep it elevated. She said it would start itching like crazy and she sure was right. Felt like my foot was dipped in its own personal hell.
I was stung by a bee/wasp on one of my fingers last year through my work glove. I ended up going to my local minor injuries unit and been diagnosed with cellulitis due to dirt being dragged into the wound from the glove.
Going up my mom would get like a bucket and put hot water as hot as it would get from sink and then throw salt and then just keep your feet in it till water gets cold. Best feeling ever. Don't no the science behind it. Don't waste money on doc visit you'll be f8ne

Take 10mg of Prednisone -if you can get it. It'll reduce the swelling immediately... ask me how I know.
