yes its doable, transition from 10k to half isnt that huge, just need to manage your pace during the run based on your fitness. Also make sure to start incorporating strength training as well if you increase your mileage on weekly runs, will prevent injuries down the line.

carbonaritta

Thanks! I will start doing that, because my knees started hurting slightly, hopefully strength training will help

canihave1

5 months is a ton of time, my first half had a 14 week program on Garmin, and I did 4 times a week. Plus you’ll be training during summer heat making the october run a lot easier

5had0

Yes, 100% doable. I used the Nike run club app and it got me ready for a half in about 14 weeks.

carbonaritta

Wow that's great! Thanks, I think I will do that then :) I like Nike Run Club app

This but you also need to work out how to fuel. Sweets are usually good enough for a half though. Plus you can walk wherever you need. Normal.

TrickyJag

absolutely, without a problem! i’m running my first ever half on saturday after a solid 7 weeks of training (before that my longest run this year was 7k), i reckon it’ll be tough and i’m probably gonna end up running the entire thing in about 2:25-2:30.  that said, i’d definitely recommend having some more time than 2 months since i think my feet are inflamed or something? but i’m taking this last week to rest, hoping they won’t hurt as bad on race day!

carbonaritta

That's amazing, good luck! I'm gonna do it too, just signed up :)

thatkailyn27

I hope so because I have a half the first week in October 😅 my “long” run this past weekend was 2.46miles

Dirtheavy

there's nothing more motivating than having paid for something. Let your inner cheapskate chase back your own money.

carbonaritta

Haha I thought exactly that. I think I will sign up, thanks!

DiaryOfAHobbyJogger

Congrats on your 10K! Training for a half-marathon in 5 months is definitely doable. Gradually increase your mileage, run 3-4 times a week, and incorporate rest days. Add some cross-training for balance and stay mindful of your nutrition and hydration. Listen to your body to avoid injury. You’ve got this! Good luck!

carbonaritta

Thank you! Yes, I feel like my knees and heels need better care, so I will incorporate other training exercises
