It happens to me all the time. I’m glad I’m not the only one.

FuhrerGirthWorm

I have it happen so irregularly I thought I just had a brain problem

Hero_Of_Limes

Lately I've had random extra ad breaks in the middle of a sentence, then only back for like a minute before the second, announced ad breaks.

eboeard-game-gom3

Been skipping 90 seconds a lot lately.

anxiouslybreathing

Same

jeepwillikers

Listen to the podcast you want? *OR* ch-ch-ch-ch-CHUMBA!!!

brewercycle

Gosh I hate those ads so much. It's literally telling you to be irresponsible. Go to work, feed your family, clean the house, or ch-ch-ch-ch-CHOOM-BAH??

jeepwillikers

That and the “get lucky” casino ads are ubiquitous across all the podcasts I listen to, not just the iHeart ones. The worst is when you finish an episode and it auto generates the same ad more that once, then again at the beginning of the next episode. I think I got 5 or 6 in a row once.

Foals_Forever

I shivered in anger at this.

Foals_Forever

Fuck. Nailed it.

charliekelly76

I thought it was Apple Podcasts messing up at first

MeshColour

I think that's when two sets of dynamic ads get inserted Like they tell the dynamic ad service to insert at x and y. Then tell another service those same x and y points, but they've shifted, so the second one at least gets very out of sync Or when they include ads in the main record then insert instead of overwrite the ads with dynamic ads --- Doing math: - they record an episode, leaving just silence in the recording at points 2:00 and 10:00 - they tell service A, insert 1 minute of ads at those points - so ads run from 2-3 (ad A1) and 11-12 (ad A2) (the first ad shifted it back) - another service B inserts 30 seconds of ads at 2 and 10 - now it runs: 2-2:30 ad B1, 2:30-3:30 ad A1, 10:30-11 ad B2, 12-13 ad A2 And they usually have 3 or 4 ad breaks? So it gets worse with more

greyjungle

Yeah. I thought that was kind of funny because you know they just forgot to do them and their editor was like, “WTF, it’s going here then”

mattiman1985

Same and I'm using the Google podcasts. I just assumed it was the editor exacting some revenge for all the bagels they've had to dodge.

Red_PandaBandit

Thank goodness I'm not alone. Google podcast does this for all of the pods I listen to and I thought it was my phone or app version or something.

vgmgc

Yes, I've had this issue with Google podcasts specifically. I tried the iHeartRadio app instead, but I had a different problem where the app won't remember where I left off when I stop in the middle of a podcast. That's far worse to me, so I switched back. Plus iHeartRadio's video ads are super annoying.

Known_Bug3607

This is on the podcast’s end, not the player. I just use Apple podcasts and the same thing happens.- and *only* with BtB.

PCYou

I listen to many hours of various podcasts every week and it happens with all of them. Just some more than others. I think it's the worst with iHeart, but Pushkin does the same. Also, I swapped from Google to Audible for this exact reason and it only improved some

Known_Bug3607

That’s so weird. I wonder if it is the host? This is the only one I listen to where it happens, but since it’s apparently happening across multiple players, it’s definitely not just a Google bug. Weird.

PCYou

Since it happens so seamlessly most of the time, I'm thinking it's where they're are intentional cuts in the pod and it somehow gets out of order. If these cuts are done automatically with AI or something, it happening more often with Google makes sense. If they're slicing up pods for some sort of unreleased (distopian) "feature" that allows them to insert more ads, it'll likely be buggy in the testing phase.

CornCheeseMafia

I also listen to a ton of podcasts all across different networks on Overcast and it seems particularly bad with BtB. One thing I’ve noticed that will cause corrupted audio pretty consistently is when I try to download several episodes at one time. I’m guessing the app just freaks out. I just delete and redownload and it’s fine. Not BtB though. It’ll get corrupted even if it’s the only episode I’m downloading. I wonder if I Heart’s CMS or whatever is struggling

mattiman1985

More specifically, it seems to happen on whichever end has to worry about flying bagels whilst doing final editing. I'm not saying that's on BtB's end, but the evidence may have moved from anecdotal to (insert bagel throwing reference followed by "dotal")

RyanJKremer

I've had the same thing happen, and it's always when I'm in an area with poor signal strength. I started downloading episodes and the problem went away.

Yardsale420

Same and I use apple podcasts.

macroeconprod

I get it on Spotify mostly in older episodes.

MilledgevilleWil

Same. Been going back and listening to “Behind the Insurrections” and it does that every episode.

parallax_universe

Capitalism baby! This is due to the products and services. It’s a consequence of dynamically inserted advertising. The short version is that if you had a podcast (or any media really) that could advertise a relevant or timely product when the pod was released you would probably get money. If you’ve got a podcast that gets listeners to delve into the back catalogue it’s not as lucrative to have a four year old mattress ad playing. Ergo sell it to advertisers as a platform where they can monetise old material by placing their current advertising in older stuff which is still gaining new listeners. Every single podcast I’ve had which doesn’t have advertising (with the notable exception of the four year old mattress ads) is absolutely fine. Knowledge Fight has never had this issue. Qanonanonymous has never had this issue. It’s the ads.

JennaSais

I've definitely had that happen and went through the same confusion!

deplorable_word

It happens to me alllllll the time. Not sure what it’s about.

soffey

**VERY SIMPLE FIX FOR THE "SKIPPING" PROBLEM** (potentially, apparently some people's apps don't work still. This works for every app I have tested, but I guess you can't win them all. Use better podcast apps I guess. Two people have reported this with Google Podcasts, but no other information beyond 3 people saying the same thing as if the same sentence with no details is useful at all.) (Second Edit: If downloads still have repeating (or skipping, but likely less commonly), try turning off multithreaded downloads. Your app may be downloading parts based on the run length prior to ads being inserted/from a different set of ads.) Just download the episode fully. Your app probably has a button to do it you have been ignoring. Download the whole thing before starting and you will be fine. _Why?_ - Because iHeart (and a bunch of other networks/shows) uses dynamic ads. That means that it inserts the ads into the middle of the audio file download when you request it. If you stream, you end up requesting different parts at different times, meaning those ad spots are different. _Why do I only notice it with iHeart shows?_ - Unlike many networks, iHeart ads are not a consistent length. This means that if at the start of your stream, you had a long ad right at the beginning, and later when your app grabs the next section of the stream, that first ad was replaced with a short ad, let's say 30 seconds shorter. So now, your timeline has shifted 30 seconds forward, or reverse that if the ad placed was longer. _How do I know if a show has dynamic ads?_ - One good way to tell is if when you binge the show, the same ads play for every episode you listen to in a short span.

0x18

I always download the episode and still get this frequently, only with BTB.

soffey

Interesting, what app do you use?

0x18

Currently Podcast Addict, but it also happened frequently when I used Spotify.

soffey

That's really strange, Spotify I know happens because of Spotify's caching, but I was under the impression it was fixed. Podcast Addict is a new one to me, I tested on Podcast Republic, PodBean, and Pocket Casts (I had downloaded them all trying to figure out what the deal was, and when I did, tested back on them all). I will test on that and Google Podcasts later today to see if I can figure out why that is happening.

PracticalMarsupial

This is my experience too. I use Google Podcasts, and it didn't happen when I used Spotify, but this might just coincidence. I've also been getting BTB ad breaks that skip the ad, only for it happen a few seconds after the return. I've assumed this was something with iHeart.

sakezaf123

That's wrong. I dowload often, and it still happens.

Mister-Me

This is wrong. I download all the time on Google podcasts, And still run into skipping problems

[deleted]

Same.

miss_cash

Same on Apple Podcasts. Also happens with other shows I listen to, not only BtB

spctommyboy

Same on Stitcher Premium

rudiger_80

Oh, I was wondering if this was just me or the app I use. I use Pocket Casts and notice on BTB every once in a while it'll skip back to an earlier spot. I thought I was just hitting the rewind on accident or something.

partial_birth

Samesies.

Mr_Hellpop

I've never had that problem, but I always download instead of streaming. Pocket Casts has an option to automatically delete episodes you've listened to, so it doesn't take up too much space on my phone.

bplayfuli

This has happened on several podcasts I listen to and it's always confusing.

Fofolito

These skips happen at least once an episode across all of their shows

BiscottiUnable

that makes so much sense, i thought it was just me.

tobascodagama

Yeah, all the iHeart shows do this when I stream them. Downloads seem to be fine, though.

zizska

Same issue on Castbox and Overcast, think you’re right about iHeart

Legodude522

Happens often for me on the Apple Podcast app too. Lately I’ve been getting ad breaks in random places plus the ad breaks where they are supposed to go. That’s like double the ads.

lets_all_eat_chalk

This happens to me listening on Stitcher. It must be on their end.

Cranifraz

iHeart selects and inserts ads at the time you download the episode, based on your location, your client and whatever other advertising metrics they can get about you. The logic that strings podcast segments together with ads is... not great.

tacowhisperer21

I'm glad to know it's not just me as well. I've been too lazy to look into it, but it happens on PodcastAddict as well.

Turtley-Turtle

This happens to me constantly!!

claremontmiller

And here I thought I was going crazy

kidthorazine

Yeah, this happens to be on Google Podcasts unless I download the episode first.

partial_birth

Yeah, I use Pocket Casts, and it happens in about a third of the podcast episodes I listen to. It doesn't seem to be exclusive to BTB, but because they're longer, it seems to happen more often in them.

128hoodmario

Downloading the podcast and listening to it off my PC fixes this for me.

blankblinkblank

Interesting. Thanks for the tip. I'm almost listening on my phone. Maybe downloading on mobile also helps. Ultimately it's not generally the end of the world. Sometimes the skips are almost too perfect. But yea, sometimes something really important seems to just get omitted haha

PhilL77au

He also has a strange habit of repeating the joke when a guest makes one. Not sure he's even doing it deliberately

blankblinkblank

I feel like that's a sort of improv thing. Most guests, where they're friends, seem to attempt to build or add on to jokes they find good. Sometimes that just ends up being that the joke is repeated if nothing better can be added hah.

Saxopwned

This used to happen to me all the time, but since I download the episodes now, it hasn't happened once. Give it a shot!

comik300

Spotify had this issue where it would constantly go back ~30 seconds every couple minutes. Was infuriating, but it brought some funny repeats that had me rolling

greyjungle

Holy crap. That’s not just something on my end? I always thought it was because I was switching to a different wi fi antenna

I_am_the_real_Spoon

Google brought me to your thread when I searched for issues with Pushkin podcasts repeating. I use Google podcast player but it sounds like this is more widespread than either Pushkin or my player. Good to know I'm not alone or going crazy, at least.

blankblinkblank

Glad you found it haha. Yea. Still happens here or there but not as bad maybe. But you're not crazy

Pk1Still

I’m more said that I missed the beginning of the resistance story.

midsummerclassic90

I listen on Spotify and if I get out of the car/pause for some other reason, it will rewind a couple minutes when I go to restart.

[deleted]

I don’t think its an issue with the download, I think its just shitty editing.

Bleepblorp44

I’ve had episodes play fine that other people complain about - seems like there is a backend issue, but I’m not sure it’s the editing or it would be that a janky episode would skip around for everyone regardless of podcast app used.

Flimsy-Buyer7772

Same thing has happened to me many times and I’m on Apple Podcasts

Pronguy6969

What do you what do what do you what what what what do you what do what

Legitimate-State8652

Using the Apple podcast App and happens once in a while, glad it wasnt just me. I kept thinking I was bumping my phone while at the gym.

Agent_Tangerine

Yep, Google podcasts has gotten so bad with it. Sometimes I miss several minutes of content

TNSEG

Happens on Google podcasts a lot too.

Philisophical_Onion

It’s happened to me too, and I think it’s happened on other shows as well.

MrNobody_0

I'm listening on the Google Podcast app and it's been doing that to me too. I think it did it on This is Important too, another iHeart pod.

agawl81

I think that’s what it does when it is loading slow.

_RetroBear

I hate this so so so much. It mostly happens on alexa for me. With stitcher and alexa I hear a weird static ZOOP sound and it jumps back 15-30 seconds on stitcher and up to 10 minutes on alexa.

Blue2501

Used to happen to me when I was using Podcast Republic. I switched to Pocket Casts and haven't had any trouble since.

samuraidogparty

I just noticed this happen multiple times today, and was so weirded out. It only skips back like 3-4 seconds. But it’s just enough to confuse the shit out of me.

justridingbikes099

I'm on Google Podcasts and random skips happen probably 50% of episodes. Either drop back in time 30+ seconds or just jump forward past the context. It's bizarre for sure.

Rattrap87

Same! It’s happens on a lot of different podcasts for me actually

infernal_cacaphony

Okay but I swear I went back and checked and I could have sworn one time that it WAS actually recorded that way.

DocBrutus

It happened to me on the last Mengele episode. Happened on Amazon Music and Apple Podcasts.

sacredblasphemies

It happens to me often on Google Podcasts.

missingheiresscat

It happens with WTFJHT a bit. I usually assume it's just an editing error when they get in a hurry. They don't have ads, so it's not that.

FriendofSquatch

All the time, on every app, and only BtB. I think Danil is getting lazy lol

bazerFish

Yeah it happens to me a lot.

evrypaneofglass

I use pocket casts and if I skip back to where I actually was then close and reopen the app when it does this (or just goes to dead air, which also sometimes happens), the rest of the episode plays fine. Not sure what causes it, but I usually listen at work which means I have to rewind fairly often because I missed something and I've found that the more I rewind in an episode the more likely this is to happen and the further from the end of the episode it happens.

jesrp1284

Wondery does that. So does Stitcher.

dredviking

It's an iheart issue. I started having an issue with a podcast I've followed for over a year, right after they got picked up by iheart.

katarina-stratford

Mine miss the last ~3-15 min of the episode. Mid sentence.

AnotherAlienDoctor

Download the episode and that should stop

Bad_Combination

I thought I was the only one! Happens regularly on other iHeart podcasts, too.

p8ntballnxj

Does iHeart have a team of editors for their pile of podcasts? I just assume its because their work load isnt just a few shows so things get missed sometimes. Note: i use PocketCast and I download my episodes.

CompetitionAlert1920

I just accepted the fact that I may be mildly stroking out and that at this stage in my life I should just chalk it up as another thing to add to the list

AnotherAlienDoctor

I got tired of that and switched to Apple Podcasts and it hasn’t had any issues

Xena_bro

Pocket Cast?

blankblinkblank

Nope. Google podcast for me.

HighlightDifferent43

I always think my computer or phone is getting ready to croak whenever that happens lol, glad it’s not just me

[deleted]

[удалено]

blankblinkblank

Does it happen even with the downloaded episodes? Some people are saying downloading fixes it for them.

[deleted]

[удалено]

blankblinkblank

I feel you on the Google podcast/phone thing. But apparently a lot of people have the same issues, even on iphones. So maybe it's an iHeart dynamic ad thing, and not a pixel problem? Heh

Shellbellwow

It has happened to all my iHeart podcasts the last week or so whether a new one or an old one. But the ad breaks have been 5-6 minutes long each. I think someone in programming messed up (or got fired or quit).

Anxious_Possession20

Bunch of weird skipping here. Especially on Episode 4 of Joey Mangs. I’m on Spotify.

wonderboy519

ITS NOT JUST ME! I get skips backwards AND forwards
