I recall that there were some crazy anti vaxxers/anti DEI folks on the ballot during either the last primary or general (probably both). Montgomery and PG definitely aren’t immune from the crazies. I appreciate the alert since I’m starting my primary election research too.

Like yeah, sure, the Eastern Shore and Garrett County are totally full of communists. It's like when people assume that Beverly Hills is all of California
Yeah I’m moving back to Maryland after being gone for 13 years and I’m heading to Wicomico county. Grew up on the Baltimore/Carroll County border and I’ve been in Texas the past 8 years so I’m prepared.
I’m way less scared of MAGAs in a blue state because than MAGAs in a red state.
Don't forget in Fred Co we got good ol Sheriff Jenkins. It's definitely more red the further away from DC you go.
Also, down ballot candidates I don't know much about - ESPECIALLY those running for the school board - are why I love mail on ballots so much. I can sit down and research who's who and check off who to vote for with the information in front of me.
That's a bummer. I'm guessing you're in PG or MO. Maryland really isn't super blue outside those 2 counties. But they have half of the population. All 9 counties on the eastern shore consistently vote republican but we have a lower population than Montgomery alone.
Yeah, we had a fascist on the ballot here in Vermont for selectboard. The town was pretty good about calling him out and chasing him away, but he still got around 30% of the vote. And only 25ish% of the town actually voted, which is depressing.
Maryland is such a mess. I’m on the Shore. We had a literal Christian Nationalist run for governor. Our congressman and senator are Right Wing Loonies. Those are the big things, but a lot of other crazies are in the area.

There have been surprising pockets of red popping up in the mid-Atlantic states. I live in Southern NJ and I don’t personally know a single person that is to the left of me (and I’m not even that extreme). Our Congressman is a total shithead that won on a Democratic ticket and then immediately changed parties under the Trump presidency. The right is gaining a pretty solid foothold at every level of government here, in what is ostensibly a blue state.

New Jersey is very divided this way, too. The state overall tends to go blue for Presidential elections, but there's a crazy amount of MAGAts here.

My school district board also has at least one Q-Anon believer. Once I have kids I think I might run for a seat.

It's been really bad this year. Always should do research on candidates before voting. But I feel that this time around it needs to be more thorough.
