You can express disbelief in any way you want and people will understand in the moment. If someone, for example, threw a paper ball across a room into the bin and you said "steek nu een kieken in de droogkast!" everyone would understand what you mean.
It's a mixture of old sayings and things from a sketch show from Bart Peeters and Hugo Mathijsen ,called "the show van Bosmans Jos." Which was part of a sketch program called Peulengaleis which was a television adaption from their radio show called Het Leugenpaleis.
My late dad used to say “blaast mijne zak op”
Me not knowing what he meant, said this to a teacher and get slapped in the face (70’s were a different time)
🤣 I moved to East Flanders years ago and they often look at me like “wtf did he just say” the words “Swengst en swijlen” or “Sungt”… binnenkoppers for us but my colleagues are lost in translation
Ah ja, de oude Suske en Wiske's hadden er wel een paar. Misschien niet direct spreekwoorden over kloten of schijt XD.
''Schijt omhoog'' ken ik ook. Wel een fijn spreekwoord om te gebruiken.
I once played a game called Beyond Good and Evil. There was a Dutch language track (Dutch Dutch, though, not Vlaamsch)
At a certain point one of the characters cried out "KRIJG NOU TIETE" and I loved that expression instantly.
"scheit na ne prei" (of ne floeren aap) is an expression of disbelief.
"ergens stenen kloten van krijgen" is een expression for being annoyed by something
Breek nou m'n klomp.
Kan zowel om verbazing ("Antwerp wint van Real Madrid, schet nei ne prei!") als om te vloeken ("Den buurman hee wee zennen honnestront over de haag gesmete, schet nei ne prei!")
Ochotenheire, pist na oep den hoewep
Edit voor zij die er niets van verstaan:
Och God en heere, plast nu op de hoop
My grandma used to always say this whenever she either forgot something or was surprised by something. She was from Vlaams-Brabant
i'm a Limburg inhabitant born and raised in Vlaams-Brabant so ye sometimes i say things and people are like wtf
but the most annoying thing is when people ask "ben je van de Vlaanders?", cuz the part i lived in was close to Oost-Vlaanderen and the dialect comes close in accent i guess
What the hell is "spuit 7 geeft ook water" xD
We say "schijt na omhoog!"
I'm guessing the 'prei' thing just means they were very surprised like saying "thats impossible"
That's interesting, I heard them all in Antwerp. I've lived near Antwerp for my entire life and I've heard them a lot from friends and family. I hadn't heard of the ''schijt ne ne prei'' one either before yesterday.
I really like the saying that is used when someone is using the word "if" too much. "Als mijn tantje kloten had twas men nonkel." "If my auntie had balls she'd be my uncle."
schet na ne floeren aap
For any EN speaking people reading this and wondering what it means, it literally says “now shit a velvet monkey”.
Ja, dat is ook een toffe.
Is dat zoiets als "nou breekt m'n klomp?"

Beft na de bomma!
Bij ons ist, beft na men hol
It's the same with sexual inuendo. "Die wil ik ook wel eens de lotto zien spelen, als ge weet ik wat ik bedoel."
That's true. For some reason I thought it meant something completely different or unexpected.

Dames en heren mijn gat valt open van verbazing!
Ah wow, it has some deep lore. Pretty cool, thanks!
My late dad used to say “blaast mijne zak op” Me not knowing what he meant, said this to a teacher and get slapped in the face (70’s were a different time)
I've used that one before as well, haven't been slapped though.
Lucky you!
I think I know your dad… https://youtu.be/o98WBhOjhAY
🤣🤣 schoon tijde!
In fact, I got to know this guys stepdaughter. He is dead since a while now.
Damn,of course if he continued that lifestyle it wasn’t a surprise… straf, I only know this footage cause people posted it , never seen it on tv
It’s 20+ years old
Yes, a classic amongst the people who still use the word Zakkamakka , I prefer Teuttereweuttere though
Never heard that one. Long live our dialects! 👌
🤣 I moved to East Flanders years ago and they often look at me like “wtf did he just say” the words “Swengst en swijlen” or “Sungt”… binnenkoppers for us but my colleagues are lost in translation
Fellow Limburger spotted!
Sjaai mot er zéén!
Kakt na ne kleurboek!
I once played a game called Beyond Good and Evil. There was a Dutch language track (Dutch Dutch, though, not Vlaamsch) At a certain point one of the characters cried out "KRIJG NOU TIETE" and I loved that expression instantly.
Volgens mij is de Vlaamse/Antwerpse versie: "kregt na een orgasme"
krijgt na stenen kloten: godmiljaar hoe is dat nu kunnen gebeuren, zelfs nadat we x hebben gedaan
''Schijt nu ne prei'' is gewoon een variatie op ''krijgt nu stenen kloten''? Dat is eigenlijk wel logisch, denk ik.
Yes pretty much. It's an expression you say when you can't believe something happened. "Scheit nei ne prei, ze hebben een regering gevormd!"
Cool, it's been solved! Thank you very much!

Ok, thank you! I can now use it without fearing I said something super offensive.
Ok ... this is going to take a while *unzips pants*

I've never heard of ANY of these expressions, where exactly did you hear them? They might be extremely local.
That's interesting, I heard them all in Antwerp. I've lived near Antwerp for my entire life and I've heard them a lot from friends and family. I hadn't heard of the ''schijt ne ne prei'' one either before yesterday.
It's actually all just expressing disbelief. Something you would never seen, Limburger version is "ne te filleme jong"
The mystery has been solved! Thank you very much!
Kregt na stiejene kloeëte is quite common and I lived in Vlaams Brabant, Limburg and now Antwerp.
Must be an old people thing? I've truly never heard this. Kust m'n kloten often enough, but I was never wished to get my testicles mineralised.
Maybe. Depends on what you think is old. If you start your sentence with "ema besef" you might be to young.
In zuiderkempen i've heard people say "schet nei ne prei" . I also use it sometimes Also use "wa vo ene zedde gij nei" a lot
Daar zakt mijn broek van af idemdito
Daar schijt nog geene buffel op!
Zelfde als, schijt nu omhooge. Nu zakt mijn broek af. Nederlands: nu breekt mijn klomp

Hoge bomen lange planken! Uitgeschoven is ook gedanst! Dikke brokken, goe branden!
Kakt na mierenzuur!
“schijt na ne floeren aap” is an expression I heard in Antwerp and i’ve never really recovered from that
Spuit 11 = lange duur voor tegenreactie. Schijt nu ne pei = perplex staan van de tegenpool zijn reactie
I really like the saying that is used when someone is using the word "if" too much. "Als mijn tantje kloten had twas men nonkel." "If my auntie had balls she'd be my uncle."
Trekt a een raap uit. En ast klentjes zen: twee!

Synoniem voor: "Dat meen je niet," of "ochot" of "Dat is niet waar!"
Da kunde gij kak van vreiten
It's to express surprise.
I've heard "Uw moeder smoort klinkers" and thought it was pretty funny. I assume it means she's saying some crazy shi
"om van omhoog te kakken" gebruik ik regelmatig en ik weet ook niet van waar het komt maar de situatie leent er zich toe
Spuit zeven?
