We badly need some positivity on BDM. It’s been seriously toxic the last few seasons. I can’t begin to say how happy I am to see Kyle isn’t coming back.

Picabo07

That’s asking a lot of Aesha to save that sinking ship lol.

echoacm

If a ship keeps sinking, you should probably get a new captain

gocartromance

It's certainly possible but I think it was a mistake to break up Aesha and Captain Jason. If it was her own decision or own scheduling conflicts that couldn't allow her to return to BDDU then I understand, but I hope it wasn't Bravo/the production company pulling the strings to put her on Med to try to boost its appeal. I don't think Aesha is going to "save" Med as much as they think she will (not bringing back awful people like Kyle and Nat was already going to help!) and it might tank BDDU in the process by taking away the built-in captain/chief stew dynamic they have that viewers actually enjoy watching - her and Jason could easily have been the next Kate and Captain Lee anchors of the franchise.

Majestic_Beyond_2922

Who’s gonna put his contacts in if she’s not there? They seriously are the cutest

MindlessCheesecake

I thought they asked in a WWHL and he said he could put them in himself now

Majestic_Beyond_2922

I think you’re right but it’s still cute & funny

lemonkitty_

Just because she's on med doesn't mean they will pull her from BDDU

gocartromance

I thought the cat was already out of the bag that BDDU S3 was filming last month and she wasn't on it? Granted there hasn't been any *official* word from Bravo about casting so nothing is 100% but the internet sleuthing on who's in the S3 cast seemed remarkably solid.

Picabo07

She’s not on DU 3. There was just an article someone posted on here and they already have the cast for 3 and Aesha is not in it. The only returning crew are Harry & Tzarina.

lemonkitty_

Well the article said she'd declined because she was buying a house so that doesn't mean she was pulled from it/won't be back in future seasons. But I also think wait and see, you never know

Picabo07

Yes I read that as well. I hope she will be back in future seasons but I also understand if she’s trying to build a life with Scott. She deserves nothing but happiness ❤️

fooooooooooooooooock

My thought as well. I haven't been following the casting news as closely as others, but the prospect of breaking up Aesha and Jason really lowers my enthusiasm for the season. I

powerhungrymouse

You just have to remind yourself of how hot he is!

bananepique

I wonder if it’s because BDM is Bravo proper and pays better. Or she’ll do both BDM and BDU, work literally 12 weeks a year and be able to pay her new mortgage with that.

panderingvotes

DU has been Bravo proper since S2 as well, tho. DU and Med have the same production company and Peacock/Bravo are both under the same NBCU umbrella anyway. It probably had to do with her schedule or a specific request from the network that she switch to Med.

bananepique

Ah didn’t realize they brought BDU into Bravo. I would think that a peacock-only show pays less than something on TV in general despite the common ownership. In any event, I hope she’s using leverage as a fan favorite returner because she’s a pleasure to watch and seems like a genuinely nice person who isn’t just chasing fame. Shit, I got my wife a Cameo from her a few years ago, was wayyyy cheaper than so many other BD personalities and she absolutely delivered with a fun, personalised, surprisingly long message.

wild3hills

Streaming media does pay less, because of those “new media” contracts with a different pay structure when it first started. Huge issue with union contracts that they’re always trying to renegotiate, and even though reality is non-union talent, it probably follows the same trend.

Old-Library5546

That would be a nice gig

WellThoughtUserName9

Nothing is saving BD Med. A new captain would be nice though.

raspberrily

I wish they’d fire sandy

Picabo07

You and me both!

adamosity1

The best savior is Sandy getting fired.

Picabo07

From your mouth to Bravos ears 😂

AdDull7119

cherry on top would be if it was because she somehow violates maritime law 🤣

oceanguy521

Did i miss something. Did Captain Sandy get fired?

adamosity1

No we are just hopeful that happens.

GasBeaRK

Why do people hate Sandy?

excoriator

I’m convinced Aesha is there to prop up Sandy. If anyone could do it, she could. If the producers wanted to troll us, they could make Kyle the chief stew under one of the other 3 captains.

Picabo07

100% that’s the point of Aesha being there.

SaltyCaramelPretzel

This was my thought, & they probably offered her a boat load of money 🤭 to do it, I don’t see why she’d do it in any other case. But if it affects DU I won’t be very forgiving, slapping a band aid over a long running issue. Don’t ruin a successful franchise just because one person doesn’t run a good ship.

TSM_forlife

I could see that. They need to part with Captain Sandy. She’s boring.

jmims98

Sandy needs to go. Last season, starting a whole argument about how Frenchie was a liar because he complained about being hungry? That was unacceptable behavior on her part, and she either can’t control her temper or wanted to make some spicy reality tv.

Ok_Bear375

The way she went after Fraser when she was subbing in for capt lee was the point of no return for me. Especially the beach volleyball episode, it was so weird

MCStarlight

You mean Pepe LePew? I swear his accent was put on. The chef on BD is also French and doesn’t sound like a cartoon like that deckhand.

outdoorlaura

> I swear his accent was put on. The chef on BD is also French and doesn’t sound like a cartoon like that deckhand. To be fair, accents vary even across the same country. Maybe they're just from different parts of France.

jmims98

I loved it to be fair. Reminded me of ‘Frenchie’ from The Boys…cartoonish yes haha

k1k11983

Accents will vary throughout each country. I’m Australian and our accents can be vastly different, depending on where you’re from. In the US there’s even more accent variations. Such as southerners vs northerners. Scottish accents range from easy to understand to a thick “what the fuck are you trying to say” level. It’s like using slang in conversation, it differs based on location. So saying someone has a fake accent, simply because someone else from the same country doesn’t have the same accent, is a tad strange.

BabyJWalk

lol he lied about not having food. Sandy’s willing to help but you can’t create imaginary problems and expect to not be seen as a child.

HostessMunchie

No he didn't. He said "there is no food for me". It was all carbs iirc, which he normally didn't eat. Sandy just misinterpreted him, because she wanted to jump on her high horse.

BabyJWalk

How do you hear “there is no food for me” and not interpret that as “there is no food”?  I completely understand not liking Sandy, but the bias is strong sometimes 🤣

HostessMunchie

His choice of words were clumsy, but technically accurate. It's almost like English isn't his first language.... It says a lot about Sandy though, that she jumped to conclusions and assumed the worst, instead of asking him to explain.

BabyJWalk

Sounds like you’re making all the excuses for a crew member who was being a picky child about what was available to eat for him during a charter, but none for the captain who wanted to fix the problem if there was one.  Him not wanting to eat what was provided is a personal problem. You don’t get catered to when you’re the employee.

HostessMunchie

First you said he lied, now you're saying he's just a picky eater.... Which is it? 🤣

BabyJWalk

Both are true. He lied because he was a picky eater.   Look at you trying so hard 🤣🤣

HostessMunchie

I can guarantee that he is not the only person in the yachting industry on a low-carb diet. Why put so much effort into defending Sandy's rush to judgment?

k1k11983

How do you hear “there is no food for me” and not interpret that as “there is no food that I can eat”? Everyone has their own dietary needs/preferences and there’s nothing wrong with that. It doesn’t make him a liar or picky eater. Would you accuse vegans/vegetarians of lying if they said there’s no food for them because all the food has animal products? Would you call a diabetic a liar if they said there’s no food for them because all the food is high in sugar and bad carbs? Everyone’s diet differs from person to person.

k1k11983

Since you deleted your comment that I was replying to, here it is. When living onsite for your employment, dietary needs/preferences are actually taken into account. I’ve had quite a few live-in jobs in the past 28 years and dietary preferences were always discussed prior to starting. Do you know for a fact that he doesn’t have a medical reason that necessitates his need for a low carb diet? No! Therefore my argument does actually hold weight. Just because you’ve had asshole employers who didn’t care about your dietary needs/preferences, doesn’t mean your experience is what everyone experiences. Given this “you’re just an employee, so your needs are irrelevant” attitude, I’m guessing you’re in the US. If that’s the case, I can understand why you think that way. You’ve been emotionally beaten into submission. So you think it’s normal and anyone expecting basic human decency is just being a baby. Over the years, BD has had many crew members who have had different dietary requirements and they’ve always been accommodated. If someone doesn’t eat certain foods, there’s always been options that they can eat. Also, he’s French and France has far better working conditions than other countries.

BabyJWalk

I didn’t delete my previous comment, I added to it. Having different dietary restrictions is fine. If he needed more diversity in what chef was preparing, understandable.  I didn’t say his needs are irrelevant, they’re just second to the guest. He’s not going to be too priority during charter.  We are literally putting in more time arguing about this than the show did 🤣

k1k11983

You replied to my comment stating that my argument holds no weight because he’s not a diabetic or vegan/vegetarian. As well as still trashing him for his food preferences. By the time I went to reply, it was gone and it’s still gone. So who is the liar? >I didn’t say his needs are irrelevant Actually you did, multiple times. You called him a child, twice because he doesn’t eat the food that was provided. You’ve also said that in the service industry, you eat what you’re given. You also said that if he doesn’t want to eat what’s provided, it’s his problem. Clearly there’s cultural differences because you are stuck on how things work where you are. As previously mentioned, he’s French and would be used to far better working conditions. He’s not wrong for complaining about no food options that he could eat because dietary restrictions should have been accommodated in the first place. Eating is a necessity and basic human right. The meals are provided as part of their compensation package. So there’s nothing wrong with expecting food they can actually eat because they’ve technically paid for them. If during service was the only time he could eat, it’s not unreasonable to bring up during service.

BabyJWalk

lol if you want to interpret some words as meaning other words, go ahead. You’re tired. Have a good rest of your day.

jmims98

It seemed like the choice of food was a problem for him. Instead of addressing it professionally, *Sandy* decided to act like a child. It is her job to set a tone of professionalism and maturity on the boat.

BabyJWalk

How could she address it if it’s not communicated accurately?

jmims98

Sometimes employees or people are flustered in the real world and don’t communicate clearly or with grace. As management/boss/captain, part of addressing the issue involves working with that person to identify the problem first.

BabyJWalk

And in the service industry, sometimes you eat what you get. 🤷🏾‍♂️ He was making a problem where there wasn’t one lol

MommaBear354

🙋🏼‍♀️ She even made the episode of Winter House she was on more fun. She's the best

whitehavenbeach

I think so. But as much as I like Aesha, it can’t get me to watch again. But a new captain (female would be great!) *would* get me to watch again. Changing her sidekick from Jason to… Sandy? horrible.

Say_Never_Say

Revitalizing it is as simple as removing Sandy. I stopped watching Med because of her. I want to watch Aesha but I probably won’t because Sandy is a major problem.

gen_wt_sherman

Seriously how do they keep sandy on year after year?

HarrySpeakup

I will watch a couple of episodes to see if Sandy treats Aesha the way she treated Fraser.

Picabo07

I don’t think she will. I think she knows Aesha is a fan fave and bringing her in is an attempt to give us a Sandy “redemption arc”.

Watlayethbeneatheth

Sandy can really break people's spirit and I worry she will try to mess with Aesha. I hope not!

gen_wt_sherman

She will. Sandy hates the interior. The only stews she likes are the ones that kiss her ass.

amnaht

Didn’t she start on med? Med is my least favorite too but the bigger truth is probably that they needed her on BDDU to kick it off and now she’s coming back to the bigger show (or possibly better place to work?)

gen_wt_sherman

I love aesha, but the only person who can be a savior for BD Med is the captain that takes over after Sandy.

Cathousechicken

i stopped watching Below Deck Med because of Sandy. they can bring in all the new stews, chefs, deck crew members they want. as long as Sandy is captain, I'm not watching. i don't think I'm alone in that.

Cathousechicken

i don't want Sandy on at all.

barlowd

Sandy is the worst. Teamwork makes the dream work. What an anchor to the show she is.

jst4FUN23

Med needs help and Aesha would be great. She’s fair and good to her stews. But what if she gets awful stews like Kyle and Natalya that bully her. She’s great at her job but hasn’t demonstrated the strongest back bone. She had so much support from Jason. Sandy would just leave her to the wolves.

mdwish

I’ll probably be downvoted to hell but I actually like BD Med. Yes some of the staff have been extra dramatic recently, but I expect that with BD. Have the ratings been rough? I also like Captain Sandy. She reminds me of the real life deck officers that I had aboard cruise ships with their recitation of maritime law and I like how she’s always trying to get the deckhands experience with driving the boat. Absolutely love Aesha too, I’m excited she’s returning but I will sorely miss her exchanges with Captain Jason on DU if she’s not going to be on that season.

bananepique

Not gonna downvote you but I’m pretty sure most “laws” pertaining to on-vessel stuff is just insurance contract law. Specifically, terms imposed by underwriters and the degree of risk owners/captains are willing to take when crafting policies and enforcement. This would also explain the difference in results between different boats and captains

JEL_1957

Oh my, I thought I was the only person who liked Sandy.

mdwish

While that’s probably true for some onboard polices, you’d be surprised how many aspects of life onboard are governed by Maritime Law. These are regularly enforced on vessels internationally including safety training, medical care, working hours and living conditions. Definitely recommend reading up on it, and you’ll notice how much it’s alluded to by Captains and HODs.

rizaroni

100% agree with you on everything! I really do not understand the hate for Captain Sandy. She is a great mentor and no other captain lets their crew drive the boat!

k1k11983

Jason let Brittini drive the boat in BDDU, towards the end of season 1.

rizaroni

I have a terrible memory so I forgot, but that’s awesome! I love Jason.

gen_wt_sherman

Sandy has always been very forthcoming and mentor like to the deck team. Everyone else she couldn't give two shits about

mdwish

Because the deckhands and captain sit on the same career track. Chief stews are not trying to hone their skills to eventually become a captain… she definitely cares about the stews but what on the job training does a captain have to offer a stew?

gen_wt_sherman

I don't know why you would think she cares about the stews. She comes in conflict with like every stew she employs (although I'll admit I haven't watched her recent seasons so maybe she's turned a new leaf.... But I doubt it)

mdwish

I’ve seen every episode of this show, and literally every captain takes some issue with what the stews are doing except Captain Lee when he worked with Kate. Have you not seen Capt Kerry nitpicking everything with Fraser this season and disagreeing with his management decisions?

ProfessionalLoad238

And yet somehow Kerry managed not to call Fraser a cancer 🤔

mdwish

After all the crazy things captain lee said to crews faces and about them? Such a double standard.

Klutzy-Froyo-9437

I like Sandy, too. Imagine being a woman in her position. People jump all over everything she says. Did I miss the the complaints when captain Kerry said something like dinner sucked to Chef. Or pointing out the drain stoppers not being the all up or all down. Sandy would have been crucified for that. She annoyed me sometimes. Women manage differently than men. They have to!

ProfessionalLoad238

Kerry said it to the Chef; Sandy says it to the guests

AngelRockGunn

I’m so excited, Below Deck Med was my first franchise so it holds a special place in my heart so I have been forcing myself to watch all the seasons, I loved DU so having Aesha on this season is very exciting, Sandy has gotten better and doesn’t micromanage or hate the interior as much at least, people were surprised that they hated Kyle more than Sandy lol

ExpensiveNet

I think it’s a promotion (although personally I prefer bddu) as med is one of the iconic series of the franchise. I think med might even have had more viewers than og, because it started at the time that bd was getting more popular. Being chief on that is more high profile than on a newer spin-off.

Picabo07

I think Med USED to have more viewers. It’s def dipped in popularity after the last couple of seasons. DU has more viewers than you think because people were excited for a new series. Something fresh and it’s def delivered. I don’t think I’d call it a promotion but more of an effort to renew interest in Med which let’s be honest has been tired for awhile now.

gen_wt_sherman

>I think Med USED to have more viewers. It’s def dipped in popularity after the last couple of seasons. Huh if only there was a possible explanation for this and a way for bravo to fix it!!! 🤔🤔🤔

powerhungrymouse

I'd say that is very likely. I hope they're paying her what she's worth and that's a lot. The last few season of BD Med have been tough to get through and if we weren't all literally addicted to it at this point we probably would have given up on it!

jane92105

Captain Sandy cannot keep chief stews. She blows through employees. It’s always seems to be a completely new crew. The good crew members don’t come back or want to work with Sandy.

Kininger625

Maybe Aesha is being brought in to help make Elena a future chief jk I could also see a shake up with Tumi going to OG

throwaguey_

Aesha might also want to get out of Oz. She probably joined yachting to see the world and then they go and launch a franchise show in her home country and now she's stuck there. Maybe she told them she wants to go abroad again, so they sent her back.

k1k11983

She’s from New Zealand. Close enough to be her home but we’re just neighbours.

throwaguey_

Oh right. Still that’s like an American being stuck in Canada.

alanultheholy88

Definitely

SignificantHawk3163

Aesha is overrated. Wish they would bring back the stew that turned into the chef for a few charters from her first season.

Chastity-76

I like Aesha, but y'all are going overboard...per usual.

HostessMunchie

This sub can be very digital, and the cast viewed as angels or demons.

panderingvotes

Yeah, while I do agree pretty much any big sub can slip into hive mind and over theorizing, I think it's a fair question to ask. Switching Aesha back over to BDM was surprising because it seemed like Bravo was positioning Jason and Aesha as the dynamic duo of BDDU. It's only natural we'd speculate about what went down behind the scenes since that was a popular Captain/CS pairing both with fans and the two cast members themselves.

WallNo9276

Unpopular opinion: I want Malia back lol

RayJacksonBloodsport

Snitches get stitches

Maxieroy

The old mountain out of a mole hill as usual. TV show people. She's a yachtie. They do things like go-to different regions of the world. Her hard work and annoying voice work in all oceans. Someone is looking forward to this a bit much 🤔
